[Q] Bad words.... auto-correct - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I found this forum a day ago... and just got my Samsung Galaxy S3 with Bell in Canada.
A very annoying problem I ran into.. whenever I'm texting someone, with messages that include cursive words, it will try to autocorrect to the closest non-cursive words. For example.. "you are such an ass" will turn into "you are such an mass", "*****ing" to "pitching", when clearly I typed "b" first... etc.
Does anyone know a way to turn this off? This only happens with bad words..

Clean up your language, problem solved
Go into your keyboard settings and disable the auto correct

if you go to settings /language and input/samsung keyboard settings /predictive text . there is a menu to change everything by holding predictive text

First of all look up the definition of cursive.
It does not mean swear words, curse words, bad language etc. It is a style of writing.
Secondly this is the international S3 forum and lastly your problem has been solved already.

Add them to your dictionary. If that doesn't work, use a new keyboard.

Text to speach?

I've heard of many having text to speach and I've looked to see if we have it stock. Either I haven't looked well enough or I am a little sleep deprived and need a window to lick. If anyone knows if we do have it and how to activate it, please be kind and fill me in.

It is usually a little microphone within the keyboard. Press is and watch the magic happen..
yep just tap the microphone icon that's on the keyboard and that will tell you when to start speaking. are you that got to put this message in.
okay I take it back it that messed up on that last sentence. what I had said was I use it to put this message in.
Swyping now... I like it but you definitely have to edit some of it and add punctuation, but fine for an informal text if you're driving or have your hands full.

My windows need washing. How soon can you get here?
(I'm talking about the windows on my house, I hope I didn't ask you for anything nasty.)

he asked for text to speech, not the other way around :-x
I've used Vlingo, it works really well for in the car, reads off the incoming texts for you.
You can also turn on the screen reader in accessibility if you want...

Unfortunately, Vlingo has issues on the Rezound. They told me they are working on a fix....
I use gosms it has this feature also just touch the text you want spoken and select the option. May be a way to enable to do it automatically but havnt looked yet

Thanks. I wasn't asking for more windows to lick, but thanks for the job offer..
I was not aware of the screen reader either. See, I knew I didn't look hard enough.
This forum is so much nicer than the thunderbolt forum was. So far people seem nicer and less judgemental. Must have been a prerequisite to buy the Rezound.

Enhanced Caller ID reads texts, email, gmail and gtalk, plus caller ID. It reads the email content (or as much as you want). It has a quiet time feature which I need, plus a while lot more options. It lets your customized ringtones play if you have one set for someone in your contact list. It's a great program.

Dailer & Contacts on ICS 4.0.3 issue

Search is disabled, google didn't help, but you just might ...
I got a new SGSII through an unwanted upgrade, have stock rooted ICS 4.0.3 and found that keypad, logs, favourites are under one app 'Phone', and groups, contacts and favourites under another 'Contacts'.
An old SGSII running an older version of Litening rom my friends has, got the keypad, logs, contacts, favourites and groups all in one place.
I can't seem to change this/merge them, were the merged dailer/contacts part of the previous rom? Previous touch wiz version? Or am I being dumb and not finding the setting to have them in the same screen?
Thanks for any pointers/mocking/gtfo's etc in advance

Mate, your sarcasm meter is faulty, send it off for repairs, and while your at it get treatment for those saddle sores.
And you want to raise the question know how hard/tiring one more click per use is, and you are who exactly? how heroically pedantic. Do I tell you how the way you do things are wrong?
After you have used it in a car dock extensively, I'll think you might have half an idea of the implications, until then you obviously don't get what the difference is and just want to jump on the comment about an extra few taps, bravo

Thank you for that long letter, your use is specific and valid for you, but not all who whining are using it on a car dock.

God god man, you are thicker than a 2x4 mate. :/
can't you just push the GB phone.apk into sys?
You could always install a 3rd party app like Go Contacts which comes with a dialer and have it all intergrated once again.

Thanks Aikje and Bored Stupid, proper contributions and advice
To be honest, I already had ExDialer and Contacts by the time the good Sun90 let me know it's the lay of the land with ICS. Have had a quick look at others too.
With A N Other dialers I've tried so far, you have to tap a different end of the phone, which still takes your attention away for half a second, which when crossing the A406 to get to the A1 isn't really the one, actually, anywhere in central London to be fair.
It's purely for this reason, it's the 'no look' control on the old dialer I'm after again, as I'm on the blower a lot, so am obviously evaluating other options as there could be better out there, I've only just updated to ICS so contrary to a certain peevish belief, I asked a question on a q&a forum to point me in the right direction, as the better members here of XDA know how to *cough* soap box *cough* hahahaa
Regarding the pushing of the Phone.apk, was going to be trying that tonight after backing up, it came from a custom rom and my knowledge of these things is a bit dry, so will find out if it plays nice later.
Again, thanks for the info guys
Good luck, I thought the "Black infinitum" rom(or something like that) had the combined dialer&contacts, and that is 4.0.3...
I'll try it this afternoon and give some feedback okay?
EDIT: doesn't work...
another ics tryout

[Q] Editing an apk

Hello. I'm trying to translate an app, and need your help.
I'm trying to translate the Contacts app to Hebrew. Yes, I know. It already exists in Hebrew.
Thing is, what I want to do (which Local doesn't help with) is changing the letters sidebar. You know, the ones that you can press and it will go to the selected letter. It rolls.
What I want to do is change those "a, b, c.. z" letters to Hebrew. That way, pressing a letter on that sidebar will actually point to the name in Hebrew. No point in having Hebrew names, but an English index.
Sorry for over-killing with my explanation, but that was kinda hard for me to explain lol
I've already looked in Values folder of SecContacts, but it isn't there.
Can anyone help?
Oh yeah, I've installed both framework files already.

Samsung Keyboard!!!

Can someone please tell me how to teach the STUPID Samsung keyboard on the S6/Edge a new word, or a word/letter that I don't want it to keep autocorrecting every single time!!
I've been trying to teach it "N" or "n" as I use that in place of "and" quite often, but every single time since the phones been released, its been turning it into "now" or "no". So frustrating.
This is just a single example of hundreds of my words it corrects, for instance, when I write "Hi" at the top of an email, it changes it to "His". Seriously, what kind of a joke is this by Samsung on all of us?
In the settings it says that any words entered repeatedly over a week will be added to the dictionary, but this is obviously bs, as not a single one of my words has been added so far, and I repeat them frequently on purpose!
Please help me out someone, this is driving me up the wall. I know I can change keyboards, but these days in trying to stand out keyboards are adding too much useless crap, instead of good features (please suggest some that have the same features available such as emojis etc)
I look forward to your replies!

Hit the thanks button already.
Don't be ridiculous, the emoji's character code, which I assume is ASCII are all the same throughout the computer world. They just look different based on how a computer or app interprets the code.

Lets not forget the main question here, how to teach the keyboard a new word? Samsung claims it learns your writing style, but clearly this is not the case. Even when I click the suggested word, 50 times, it doesn't add it to the dictionary, so this topic is still open.
As for the emojis, of course each app interprets the same code with its own images, but I'm after the end user experience here, so the choice of emoji images used are important to me.
kind regards

Question Help! I changed the way you answer a call (to long press instead of swipe) and can't revert

Crossposted on Reddit, but I figured I might have better luck here:
It's obviously only affecting full screen calls (or incoming when locked), but I wonder if the April update (which I installed since making the change) removed the option from Phone/Settings/Answering calls.
Could be that I totally lost my mind and simply can't find the setting... but I'm pretty sure it was either Phone/Settings or somewhere in Accessibility.
BTW, I'm not talking about replacing swipe with tap in Accessibility Assistant.
Did you check under Call settings/other call settings

Ummm...yeah
The only way I know how to get to those settings is to use an activity launcher to get to Call Labs setting. If you use Activity Launcher from the play store you can search for Labs and it'll turn up, if you use a shortcut activity launcher like built into Nova Launcher you have to go to Call / labs and the option will be available from there. Tap on labs and it's the third option down.
Frick!!! I must have used that since I created a few shortcuts from it.
Thanks for refreshing my dusty brain.

I have a foul mouth...but I wasn't trying to bypass the filter. When English is your second (or third) language, the F word sounds just like any other one. I just got used to spelling it like that.

I would like to point you to Rule 2.1:
2.1 Language: XDA is a worldwide community. As a result, what may be OK to say in your part of the world, may not be OK elsewhere. Please don't direct profanity, sexually explicit language or other offensive content toward Members or their work. Conversely, while reading posts from other members, remember that the word you find offensive may not be offensive to the writer. Tolerance is a two-way street.

The profanity filter blocks out entire words, not single letters, so the F word would appear as ****. However, you used * for one letter, which tells me you were intentionally trying to bypass the profanity filter.
I understand having a foul mouth; I'm a United States Marine veteran, and the USMC's vocabulary is extremely profane. Still, XDA has rules, and we must follow them.
