Hi,
I tried searching - but couldn't find any answer about this issue.
My iMac doesn't seem to charge my S3. Whenever the USB is connected, it is showing as if it "charging" but it barely charges the phone, rather it keeps discharging.
Is anyone experiencing this aswell?
Thanks!
USB provides lower voltage than a wall charger, so depending on use it could be at a standstill, discharging at the same rate its charging. Plug into a wall for much faster charging

Thanks.
I thought that it might be it, but the iMac sure charges the iPad and iPhone 4s easily.
Might be the 40-whatever pin charger the i-stuffs use is parallel charging different cells of the battery which wouldn't happen with android (most batts have 4 pins, 2 for temp and 2 for use, while the microusb has 5 pins, 2 for power, 2 for data, and one isn't connected I believe). Idk BC I don't like apple lol

you can flash custom kernel and change the default(475mA) USB charge to 800mA, tested and charge fast on USB mode

Rooting to fast charge from a laptop? I'd keep my warranty jk lol but seriously stick the damn thing into a wall lol
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk 2
Note that you can badly damage computer motherboards if they do not provide the necessary power if you decide to configure the phone to use >500mA charging.
Most computer manufacturers have got rid of current limiters, so if the hardware cannot handle over 50%overload the weakest part will blow - which might well be a power conductor within the layers of the board, potentially damaging other components too.
Best case your usb plug just dies.
Even if the iMac support fastcharge, you'll always have to remember to lower it again before plugging it into other computers.

As long as it is at least 500mah you will be fine. With modern phones the phone controls the charging rate so even if you get a 5 amp adapter it won't hurt anything (as long as the voltage is right, of course) as the phone will only pull what it needs.
So here is my dilemma:
While on the car charger, I'm running GPS and Pandora with the screen on viewing the turn by turn directions. Well, this goes on for 2 hours. Battery down to %63....... WHILE ON THE CAR CHARGER!
I Went to Best Buy and bought a 2.1A charger to see if that helps. I charge it at night object a 2A charger from a TouchPad.
Any idea on how to actually charge this phone while I use it?

On most android devices (not sure yet if the note is the same but I think so), fast charge is enabled only in the charger has pins 2&3 shorted. So, it's not only the amperage of the charger, but also what charger. I know the Motorola car charger does this, and crappy one in my car, but I haven't had any problems running nav, pandora, and bt calls and messages.

This kind of situation is not uncommon. Many phones cannot charge as fast as you can draw power, especially with GPS going and the screen turned on. The Note's large screen only makes this worse. You might want to try turning off things that aren't essential while you're using the GPS like wifi and bluetooth.
dude your driving a 5.3 inch display while using other apps of course its gonna suck some juice i would say you return it and get an iphone lol jk
Hmph that's odd. Mines chargining while useing Pandora with Bluetooth and GPS on more than its draining. When its plugged in to the car charger does is say AC or USB in the settings?

I realize the idea that it might not charge as well during use but to drain the battery while charging to the point it would actually be dead kinda makes me nervous to own this phone regardless of hardware demand.

Yes, 5.3" screen that should stay running while being charged. Think of a laptop or tablet. How are they able to accomplish staying charged while in use.
Funny you mention iphone. I am coming from one to this. I have NEVER had an issue with charging to %100 while I use use and on a charger. Many miles I've driven with Pandora, GPS, FB, email and a bunch of other stuff going on, hence why I question the validity of what I'm going through now.

Are we talking a Motorola brand charger or one that fits a Motorola brand? I thought ones that fit Motorola are not micro USB but mini USB. I just bought a TomTom universal USB charger that allows for 2 USB cables to be plugged into it. One is a 1A and the other is a 2.1A. I also bought a Belkin 6ft data/ charging cable the is USB to mini USB to micro USB with included adapter.

AHA!
That's your problem....
My buddy with an ATRIX bought one of those usb to the wall things with 2 plugs on it... it takes 12 hour to charge his phone from dead... and won't charge my boss's phone at all
And... from my job... I know that adapters degrade signal strength...
Your best bet is to get something that doesn't require a second adapter...
ie: wall wart/cig liter gizmo... wire... that's it

Well this all started while I was using a car charger that was included with an HTC Inspire. I figured it would power up the Note. The set up I posted before is the one I bought yesterday to see if the same issue occurs. I spent a lot of time looking for a 2.1A USB power point in hopes it would alleviate my issue.
I am curious though about the pin configuration idea though and fast charging.

I'm using Samsung's official galaxy note car dock. Works fine for me. Doesn't lose charge while using GPS, paying music, etc. It does actually charge it up.
Id buy one of those if t would work with a case on. I wonder if there are ant specs for.that dock online that would elude to the power output. I see the.home charger is only only a 1A.
I wonder if it could be the cable too?

If this hasn't happened to you yet., and it's going to happen to you later. You have been messing with your phone without looking at your battery levels and mid rom flash you are out of juice, your phone won't charge. The charger appears to be working but the phone just won't charge.
I used to have a droid x and you have to use a special tool by Motorola to change the os on it. It requires you to be plugged in but sometimes won't charge your phone. Mid update my phone ran out of juice, I had a spare battery but the phone wouldn't turn on or charge. After many desperate appempts I found a fairly easy solution.
The trick is you find any usb cable you don't want.. You strip the end with the adapted part of the usb.. You cut the green and yellow wires.. You put the black wire on the negative terminals and the red wire on the positive terminals
This should give your battery enough energy to start itself up if you hold the wire on the terminals for a minute.. Although I'm not sure if this damages the battery.. I would only use this in case of an emergency,

Or you could get a cheap $3 wall charger from amazon or ebay (the type that holds the battery not the cable).

Or use Amon Ra recovery... it will actually charge a fully dead battery.
Clockwork MOD has issues charging a completely dead battery.
This is for a situation where you need it charged at that moment.. Not wait 1 week for a charger.. Most people know about the chargers, but shipping is nothing near instant

What if you could wire the batteries together is some way to make a 1 week shoe box sized battery. That would be worth buying... If you wanted to carry it around

They already make these "brick" charging devices. Not a shoe box, just a large battery that can charge your phone multiple times before it needs to be recharged. Pretty sure I have seen a 8000mah and higher.

Hey I've recently wanted to use the fast charge widget by Chad but I can't seem to find a decent kernel that supports it.
Is there a reason the feature is left out? I figured it would kind of be standard to custom kernels.

Some off brand charger. Idk. Now that I think about it the charger may be bad. It shows ac charging. It didn't act like it was charging at all the other day. Wouldnt keep up well in an area with no service. But the one in my personal vehicle and my wall charger do well. Lol either way I miss the fast charge.

Ermahgerd Kernel supports fast charge but read the first post instructions very carefully.
There are some ppl who say fast charge isn't all its cracked up to be. It does not make ac charge go any faster. I bought a Rezound compatible usb cord and an official HTC plug separately off amazon for like 30 altogether. Beats having to wait forever using another manufacturers charger.
Sent from my Rezound using Tapatalk 2
Make sure your charger exceeds the fast charge rate. A 2 amp charger would certainly be large enough. 1 amp would be too small.

Just buy a real charger which follows the USB charging specs, and be done with it. Problem solved.

Follows the USB charging specs? So you mean 5V 500mA? I prefer a charger with 2amp capabilities, so I know there are no issues when using fastcharge. When the phone detects a car charger or computer USB port, the kernel regulates the current to 500mA or less. Telling the phone to pull more than 500mA from a computer or car charger will probably just damage the charger, depending on the rating.
But a two amp charger with fastcharge should charge at 1.25 amp or so, and it won't damage the charger.

I don't think I have ever used the charger & usb cable that came with my Note 2. I have never had any issues with it charging. In fact, I am currently using a Motorola wall unit with a no name cable upstairs, & a cheap wall unit from Walmart & the cable from an Acer tablet. Both charge fine.
I'm using OEM charger and cable I installed an app called galaxy charging current and its showing a ridiculous fluctuation. I'm thinking it may be a faulty charger. It charges much faster on my car charger.
