[Q] Omega ROM on north american versions of the S3 - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I really admire work of Omega team and I'm so excited to get the ROM on my phone.
I'm wondering whether somebody who is close to Omega development team could comment on their plans to port Omega ROM on north American devices, specifically I would be interested in SGH-I747M.
If it is not planned already and under assumption that Omega team would be open to idea to port their work to NA devices, I'm wondering whether it would be possible for me to do such port. My background is Unix admin with very little development experience and I never did any ROM cooking work before. Can somebody briefly describe to me what would be required to do such cross port? I also welcome any comment on time/effort required.
Thank you in advance for your replies and comments.

Due to the fact that the two phones (international vs. NA) have two different SoCs, it might honestly be easier to start from scratch and add in the tweaks the team has added. You might want to PM one of the team members

Galaxy S I9000 ports even possible?

So don't want anyone to get uppity, I am not a dev but have been following the android dev scene for roughly a year with the utmost respect for developers.. Here is my question, outside of the obvious dragons faced when trying to port a European or International Galaxy s rom for use with our Vibrants, why don't we Vibrant owners see more port attempts or even a lively community of ported roms as seen for the Captivate... Is it the willingness or know how of the Captivate devs or is it just not possible for the Vibrant due to further complexities? From what I was following a while back Eugene had some problems porting a 2.2.1 rom and Heathen also had problems with soft reboot issues in his attempt... However over in the Captivate section there are a number of ports and even working BLN kernals... Are Vibrants capable of the same kind of development? Also we saw a short lived appearance of BLN kernals, does anyone know what happened? Thanks for any insight..

The reason for lack of ports is that Vibrant really doesn't have a strong following of devs (TW, Eugene, Master, Heathen to name a few). There are very few full out rom devs for our phones. Thus, they are always busy with contriving their own masterpieces, and with the current release of 2.3 I firmly doubt any port attempts will be undertaken.
Also, ports themselves take massive amounts of work, in addition to bugs and glitches galore.

[Porting Dev Question] Differences between the Galaxy Note GT-N7000 and our GNote?

So I reached out to Gerrett the Dev who put together the
Vengeance Note Edition MIUI Rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1688646
He said he might be up for the challenge but he needs to know the differences between the International and ATT note from a Dev stand point, and will need volunteers to test the rom and send log cats. I expressed my interest in offering my help and I sure others will join in, but I just need some help from one of our Devs to turn to when he has questions about our device.
Any Devs interested in helping out? If not, he said he is willing to give it a shot as long as there is not too many differences otherwise he would need the device for hands on. Is there anyone that can lay out the differences in hardware and software between the two devices?
Different radios kernel etc etc, this is more like overgrown skyrocket

Completly different hardware. Diff cpu. Radio....if u flash an international note rom on the i 717 note it will most likely hard brick it.
So basically the hardware is the only difference. Does this sound like it can be done? Obviously he does not have our device, so as much information as I can give him would be beneficial.

[Q] What can we do get some more variety of roms & devs especially from original HOX?

[Q] What can we do get some more variety of roms & devs especially from original HOX?
Was just wondering if there's anything we can do to get some more dev's over to our HOX+ forum? Not that I don't appreciate the work that's already being done by current dev's.
i agree...especially to get some new roms our for AT&T models as well. im willing to help the devs in any way possible if itll get some fresh content out
This depends on what you are looking for and the devs ability to get a phone. The big AT&T issues is the TEGRA processor in the + versus the qualcom in the original.
Re: [Q] What can we do get some more variety of roms & devs especially from original
a dev won't build a Rom for a device they don't have in most case's bud
Theres not many x+ owners in general so a small dev community is expected

Well that sucks since we paid a lot of money for a very high end phone and the phone only came out in europe in november so technically its still a VERY NEW phone yet it seems like the development community is for such a new and high end phone REALLY small... I expected a large dev community for such a high end expensive phone ... what a disappointed... especially when it comes to looking at the ORIGINAL development thread that's suppose to have aosp based roms and yet all i see is multiple roms being discontinued e.g. aokp 4.1 and miui rom... if things carry on the way there are and we keep loosing more devs than we receive the development community for this device will be virtually non existant ...
we need to do something about it... get some more devs from the Original One X thread over to the one x+ maybe chip in all together to get a popular well recognised dev over at our thread the way people did it for the viper x rom developers.... what you guys think?
AOKP 4.1 and CM10 got discontinued because of work being continued on CM10.1 and AOKP 4.2! we HAVE LIVES too, the amount of PM's i have gotten this week just because i went on a 4-5day holiday was horrendous! Either step up to the mark, help the dev's, or shut up!
Re: [Q] What can we do get some more variety of roms & devs especially from original
Also I just re-read what you said, seems you under value myself and max who have done a TON of work for this device!! You are just ungrateful! Quality over quantity every time
Sent from my HTC One X+ using Tapatalk 2
Just to echo what Lloir said, if you think things could be done a certain way or at a faster pace........you could always roll up your sleeves and build it yourself!
Being on a number of devices and around this kind of thing for a while, I can tell you that if you keep on pushing and pissing off people like Lloir....you won't have him for too long!
It ain't nothing for someone like him to put his device on swappa or something and go develop for a device where the users are not as ungrateful as they seem to be here.

Here are my thoughts:
I think we have two of the *best* android developers in the XDA community (Lloir and Maxwen) developing for our device. The AT&T Hox+ has a not so friendly Tegra processor when it comes to development. Not sure if you have flashed the CM 10.1 ROM that Lloir and Maxwen have produced but it is rock solid for a "WIP" ROM. Something you very seldom see for a first release. Personally I am extremely thankful for the efforts these 2 guys give towards our device. Thanks Lloir! and thanks Maxwen for your kernel work.

Re: [Q] What can we do get some more variety of roms & devs especially from original
Oh my God, all i was trying to say was that it would be nice to have a bit more variety in our Dev community, this thread i created because i wanted to find out if there was anything we the community could do to increase our Dev community e.g. Get the community all donate so more devs could buy a one x+ etc... And in the first post i did actually wrote that i am grateful to current devs... Lloir you have seriously mis understood my comment! Words can not express how grateful i am to you doing so much work for our device and not just you but all the devs... As for the statement of roms being discontinued, i didn't know the reason and I'm sorry ... I really am. Please don't think that I'm an unapreciative person because that couldn't be further from the truth

at first i must say i really believe he didn't want to seem ungrateful just like many other, but i think this is a problem, that is to be observed in many subforums of xda.
i guess this is mostly an iussue of missunderstanding what this forum really is.
in first place this is not somewhere to find lots of roms and tweaks for your exact device.
it's a place for development and sharing of it's results and we as users should do our best to contribute to the community as much as we can.
be it testing and giving feedback or for everyone who really is interested in extending the amount of choices: learn to get it done by yourself.
start with small steps like first java programms, simple apps for your device, theming and porting simple mods.
try to compile some kernels from git and maybe port an aosp based rom to this device.
learn how everything works, create by yourself, port, etc and share it.
and if you really don't know how to be helpful in any other way... just hit the thanks button and donate a little bit for something the devs have worked in their spare time.

$$$$ How about BOUNTY call for L9 Development and Custom Roms with features? $$$$

Since there are no real experienced devs in L9 forum. In very near future also it is not possible to get too many developers coming here from other devices. Therefore...posting this out of huge frustration.
I was thinking about a BOUNTY call for EXTREMELY EXPERIENCED DEVELOPERS who can build Custom Roms with many features as we already have unlocked bootloader. This was suggested to me by a user at least 2 months before for L9.
:laugh:How about calling a BOUNTY to be started for custom roms ...
with completely rebuilt custom Kernels with various profiles, like business, gaming, longest battery, etc.
with completely rebuilt bugless custom Kernels with safe and faster OC profiles from 1.2 to 1.5Ghz.
with completely rebuilt bugless stock rom with memory tweaks and missing bloatwares.
with completely rebuilt bugless CM, PA, AOSP, PAC port.
with completely rebuilt bugless Ubuntu port.
with Roms which can support all L9 Variants.
with working OTG
with working MHL
with working memory hack
with modded camera with hi-quality profiles
with really working Bravia Engine and not placebo
with really working Sound Enhancements and not placebo
with full support for theming
with full regular support for updates and willingness to for more wishlists.
ANYTHING ELSE YOU CAN THINK OF....:laugh::laugh:
With current userbase here, it should not be difficult for us to achieve a goal of calling a bounty from $1500 to $3000. Bounty will be only for totally bugless Roms. If everyone of us can share a bounty from $10 to $100 depending on the wishlist items and its possibilities, I think we can achieve goals. Bounty can be declared for individual requirement or for all of above in one.
Come on pals, give me your opinion and wishlists. I have never started a bounty before or dont have an experience, I also don't know the rules. But if some of us could come together we can find the ways to move ahead. I dont know how this is going to workout if everyone agrees it may work. I know some will take me seriously :good: and others can simply laugh it out. I really don't care. lolz
** It is known fact that, developers dont own all devices, but when bounty is declared they buy/borrow devices and start working on it.
**We may also need a group of beta-testers who should not leak the beta builds supplied by developers for testing.

Sounds like a plan.
I'd maybe be in with 10$, under the condition that it works for me (since I can't unlock my Bootloader/install CWM/etc for some reason) and that I still have my device when it's finished (including bricking etc.)

Great to know. Hope things roll in right direction. We really need too many people to support this. And yes, there are always chances of some users backing off or refuse to pay later, sort of cheating. Not a surprise, happened before.
I think this is a great idea!
Ill throw in 5 bucks on this device for a good rom no bloatware
Sent from my LG-P769
Ill do this once the Jelly Bean update comes for P768 =] Cant use any custom roms yet?
I willing to pay the bounty for some extra features like OTG and MHL,
but first lemme find a job.I am currently unemployed.
Edit:
check this thread : Bounty Won by Team Codefire
These guys not only unlocked but coverted Optimus G to Nexus 4. 100% compatable with nexus 4 roms. Damnnnn!
I wonder if something like this could be done on Optimus L9 and making it Galaxy Nexus. I know this can't happen probably cause galaxy nexus is samsung device Optimus L9 Lg's baby.
Porting roms from galaxy nexus might be possible for experienced developers cause Optimus L9 has very similar hardware like Galaxy nexus. they both run on Ti Omap processor. Lg has Ti omap 4430, Galaxy nexus has Ti omap 4460.

The same reason I wanna support this. MHL & USB OTG
$10 for a bugless Jellybean ROM for the T-Mobile USA 769. Built-in apps to SD would be nice.

You mean to say galaxy nexus roms compatable with optimus L9?????
OTG is important
Will gladly pay $10 for OTG.
My personal opinion is that, L9 is not unfortunate for not having good developers, but its unfortunate because this phone is in middle range and no generous users I can see here. Some talk about 5 bucks and some give lame excuses. We expect too much and shell out too less.
I also dont see good number of response after 400+ views. This means people are reading it and simply ignoring. I think now this thread is useless and not going to serve any purpose.

[Q] Custom roms for new devices

So i've done some research, but i'm really, really new to Android Rom's and Kernels. I'm not a developer. What i am is someone keen in understanding about Android.
If someone wanted to make a new device, say their own Galaxy, Nexus, LG G2 etc How much work would need to be put into the kernel for the new device and also the new Rom? This includes a Smart TV and a separate phone.
Would it be hard to hire a team to develop a custom Rom and Kernel for the new devices? or? I see MiUi has done quite well but they've had millions of dollars of investment and lots of employees and people along the way to help.
Also does it take a big team or could it be done with a small specialised team of individuals and designers?
Thanks Guys and be gentle if it's a stupid question.
