Samsung store and e-mail background - Galaxy S III Q&A, (US Carriers)

Hey, guys. Just got the AT&T version of the S3. I previously had the International.
1) I can't, for the life of me, figure out how to change the e-mail background from black to white. I messed with the power savings settings and that doesn't do it. Any ideas? It was black by default on my International version.
2) Any idea how we get the Samsung app hub installed? I can't find it in the market. It had a few apps that I wanted to get back.
Thanks!
Edit: Found an apk for the samsung app hub, but still can't figure out the e-mail background thing. I don't see an option anywhere.

To change the email background:
Settings > Power Saving > Background Color (uncheck if you want a white background)

That has nothing to do with the background color. It changes the brightness level when you're in those apps. I tested it to be safe before I even posted this.
No, the dark background e-mail client must be a theme. No idea why they changed it on the U.S. Model. Anyone else with one from Sprint, Verizon, or T-Mobile who can confirm that it is the same on your device?

Yes it does...
So as long as that's what you're talking about (the background in the body of emails being black using the TouchWiz email app.)
If you do what I posted, it will change the background of the email body from black to white.
I just turned it back on and read an email, and it's back to black. I unchecked it, and it's back to white. I have a TMobile, so if you don't perhaps that is why it didn't change for you, but it most definitely does for me. I'd be happy to take screen shots for you.
EDIT: Idk if it matters what type of email account you have set up in the email app, but I have it set up for Hotmail.

In the email app go into an email. Then hit the menu button adjust text color and background there

I have AT&T. I have already tried this and it does nothing. Do you actually have power save on?
It won't work on any of my email accounts.

I saw that, but it only changes the body of the emails. The headers stay white. That's the opposite of what should happen.

I've never gotten a number of emails on my gmail icon. That's through 4 different phones. I've gotten it on texts, emails(via stock email), voicemails etc but never Gmail. Just the "M" icon.

Hmmm, am I going crazy? Im for sure I saw it..lol
install the app "gmail notifier" & you'll get that.
it works fine except the text under the icon doesn't exactly match the other icons. if you do like I do & eliminate the text under the home screen icons, it works great.
I bet you were seeing the HTC mail app icon? I think that shows the #...
go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1199518. follow it well. reinstall your launcher with built in notification after reboot and it'll work like a charm

The gmail notifier app I'm using even works with sense and the newer gmail setups (long after the notification quit working in LPP Plus)
It creates it's own home screen widget.
shouldn't have to install something as a work around to something that's already built in

[Q] How to change color in email app

Initially when setting up my exchange account on the stock email app, the background was White and text was Black.
Since then it's changed to Black background/White text. I'd rather White back/Black text.
I'm not sure how it happened. I rooted it earlier today but I don't imagine that would have anything to do with it. Any ideas?

Sound options grayed out?

As you can see in the screenshot, my "Ringtone & Notifications" options are grayed out. It doesn't make any sound when I receive texts, and this is a problem.
Other issues: How to remove the two battery indicators in the notifications in the status bar? And what is the little leaf icon in the status bar? And the white chat bubble with the check mark? And the black first aid cross in the white arrow? Also, even though my default messaging app is Messaging, my text message notifications always send me to the AT&T messages app.
I'm thinking it's because you're in the" silent" sound profile. Try it from normal?

Nope, I'm in the "Sound" profile.
No idea then. I was going by the screenshot you posted which clearly shows you're in silent.
Also, leaf is eco mode - power saving. The black cross icon in the left facing tag is telling you that you have more notifications. If you drag down from the top of the screen, you should see all your notifications.

Does your phone make any sound at all?

You're right..the screenshot does show that. I just looked at my phone again, and the silent icon is not there. I pulled up settings, and those options are on longer grayed out. Very, very weird considering that just before taking the screenshot, I held down the power button to see the "Power off, Power off and restart, Turn on Airplane Mode, Silent, Vibrate, and Sound" menu and made sure Sound was selected.
I figured out that the leaf is Eco Mode (not active, as the phone is above 50%), but I still don't know about the first aid, checkmark chat, or double battery.
Well the 'first aid' icon isn't actually first aid. It means that more things are listed than your status bar has space for. Have you downloaded anything strange onto your phone? I've never seen the double battery before, or the checked chat bubble.

TBH, I'm so much of a tinkerer and so new to Android, that I'm sure I've installed at least five strange things. I think my best option at this point is to wait for an AOSP ROM without any of the AT&T bloat to come out, backup my apps with Titanium Backup, and flash the debloated ROM. It'll be easier for me to pick through what is installed and narrow down these issues.
It was Llama! Doh..hadn't looked at that in over a week. I guess I had set it to be silent whenever I'm at work. That explains why I'd always raise the volume only to find that it's back on silent again!

[Q] Notification Sound

My sounds are set up but,
1 There is no sound when I receive incoming texts and/or email.
2 When I do receive incoming gmail they do not show in the notification drop down.
3 The only way to see the emails is to open the app and then refresh the page.... and then they load.
Any help would be great.
You have to go into the app you want to change the notification for..
Ex. Open up your Google mail. Open up the gmail setting by pressing the 3 dots on the bottom right..press settings..then press the Google account you want to edit. There you will see the notification setting along with the Show notifications when email arrives.
For text messaging the same rule applies. Open up Messaging go to Menu..then Settings.

Everything was set as is necessary.
Still no sound on delivery and no incoming mail seen until the refresh button is hit.
I'm missing one or two small steps somewhere.

Pop-up Notifications When V30 Always On is activated?

Is there a way to get notifications to pop-up when the always on display is active?
You get the icon above the clock. Are you wanting a whole heads up notification or something? The screen to turn on? I don't think there is an option for something like that. At least I haven't seen one.

Yes - I would prefer a pop-up notification for text messages, emails. Was hoping there was a setting I was missing to be able to allow this.
Thanks.

It only shows an icon. I wish it showed the actual message Like Pixel does. but it does not. If your main concern is text messages you can download something like Textra which has an option to wake up the phone when I message arrives. Then you will see the message.

Is there somewhere an app that will also show pop-up messages? Using the Outlook app for example...I find it totally worthless that I get a notification sound but absolutely no popup. I don't want to have to pull the notification center down, I just want a pop up showing the message that I just received.
On that note, I *HATE* how the lock screen INSISTS on combining notifications from an app. If I get 10 emails, I want to see 10 separate notification entries, damn it.
Using Android....is, well, annoying. I shouldn't have to download apps just to make everything work. No wonder my wife rejected the V30 and went back to iOS.

Believe it or not Android is getting better and better with how notifications are handled and how they can be custom tailored per each app. The usage of the notification center is that way for a reason for quick and easy access to your notifications without completely interrupting the user. The cool thing is that there are other apps that you can use in order to adjust the phone to perform how you want it. Android is all about customization. You can have it the way it comes from the manufacturer or you can add apps to customize your experience. For this reason it may take an Android user longer to initially set up a phone vs a iUser.
Good luck.
