text message backup/restore - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I want to move from miui to aokp or vise versa... and my preferred method used to be an app called my backup root. However, it takes so long to restore data. A titanium backup restore going from/to aokp/miui aren't compatible and will force close.
Are there any good (and by good i mean quick) backup/restore apps for text messaging that would be compatible between cm9 versions?
Thanks

SMS Backup+ works

sms backup and restore works really well.

best app for call history & sms/mms?

currently on BAMF Remix v1.8
i did search the forum and can't seem to find an answer.
are there not files/directories which contain the "call history", "sms", and "mms" which can be easily copy/pasted for backups?
in the alternative, anyone using an app or other approach which effectively backs-up call history, sms, and mms?
Titanium Backup does it.
Edit: I wouldn't restore data if you're coming from froyo to GB or GB to froyo.
titanium backup? can you explain how to accomplish this? thanks
After the backup was done.
Access TB, select "backup/restore" tab.
scroll to "contacts/calls...ctsStorage"... then restore
scroll to "[SMS/MMS/APN]" then restore
scroll to "[SMS/MMS PREFS..." then restore
Hopefully everything works out fine.
titanium backup pro well worth the money!
I use Backup to GMail
MyBackup Pro will do it between roms(2.2>2.3,2.3>2.2) and even phones(DX>Tbolt).

ok so i am attempting to backup/restore my call history. first i did my perfunctory nandroid back-up prior to flashing new ROM. Then backed-up all user and system files and data with Ti BU.
now attemtpted to restore "contacts/calls...ctsStorage". first, data only. result - no phone history apparently restored. second, attempted to restore app and data. result -no phone history apparently restored.
any thoughts?

[Q] Need Help Restoring Data on Serendipity Rom

I have previously restored data, most specifically Sms logs, when going from Cognition to Unnamed. But when going from unnamed to serendipity, I can't get Backup pro, Titanium Backup, or Appextractor to restore my sms logs. It's pretty frustrating. I can get most of the apps and system data to come back, but not SMS. If anyone can recommend a method or program I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks
SMS Backup and Restore by Ritesh Sahu
In general, you should not restore system data when changing ROMs - it will almost always break.

Thanks Entropy, I appreciate the response. Ended up using that program, which I was familiar with but had problems with it in the past. I found a good combo to be Super Backup and SMS Backup and Restore. Super backup handles the contacts and call logs great, Backup and restore works great for SMS, as long as you don't have too many messages .
I try to avoid restoring system data, accept for certain programs.
I use Call Logs Backup and Restore (same guy as SMS Backup/Restore) for my call logs, and for contacts I just keep everything synced to Google.

[Guide] workaround Titanium Backup SMS data restore IssuesICS9(XXLPH)

I'm sure some (Many?) of you have discovered that if you backup a large SMS storage on a Samsung GB based rom and then try to restore this data on ICS (LPH or CM9) you will get FC's in the stock message app. To fix this you have two options:
1. Install GO sms pro app from the Market and check the "uninstalled stock sms app option" It will have no problem with Titanium backed up sms storage.
Then uninstall stock SMS app using TB or delete directly from /system/app folder.
2. Install GoSMS pro. Then backup your sms data using the app function.
Now using titanium backup delete data for:
-[SMS/MMS/APN]
-MAPServiceSamsung (sammy roms only)
-[SMS/MMS preferences]
-[OMACP v2] sammy roms only
Now reboot and then restore messages from GoSMS pro.
Reboot again and now you should have stock SMS app working with your restored message storage data!
Uninstall GoSMS pro
wipe data in TB for any message related apps which FC EXCEPT of course The SMS/MMA/APN dialer storage.
Done!
Note: This works for very large databases of 7000+ apps for me but sometimes I still got FCs. In ICS there is a limit option you can set. before restoring try raising this limit to 1000 then drop it to something sensible and reboot. this should trim your history down.

[Q] MyBackup Pro sms backup not working in kitkat?

I use MyBackup Pro to backup my sms ..and some not so important apps that I rather restore than install them again. But I noticed that I can not restore SMS when I backing up SMS from CM10.2 and then flashing CM11 rom or any other kitkat roms. The hangout app or if I install the aosp stock sms app remains empty with no restored text messages
I can not make a backup with a kitkat rom and get it to restore. The app says successfull but the texting app remains empty..
Hmm how do I solve this? I have never gotten Titanium to work to restore text messages either but that was way back with my HTC Desire..
Any alternative apps that works if MyBackup Pro does not do the trick?

dude ...this was a long time ago before developers added kitkat support. Just download the latest version :good:
They might not have updated it to support KK yet (edit: they just updated the app yesterday to v4.0.9 for better KK support - try to update the app and retry). The system needs to switch to the restore app as the main Messaging app during restore and then switch back. Titanium Backup does support this. I've used it dozens of times for this purpose on stock and CM11 based roms.

[Q] Faster Method to restore message?

So, I often change from one phone to another and my SMS history is very important. So far I need to backup and restore 16k messages. I've tried sms backup & restore but it takes long to restore the sms and for the phone to read all the sms again once I open the messaging app.
So, anyone know faster method to backup and restore SMS?
ps : I'm using nexus 5

You can try Titanium Backup (only the paid version has sms backup). But if you have a lot of messages, it'll take a long time to restore, no matter what app you use (i think).
----
PS: You neet root to use TB.
16K? Jeebus... That's a sure way to make almost any phone start to get laggy. Why not save them to the cloud and only restore the last few months or so with SMS Backup and Restore? But yea, there is not gonna be a quick way to restore that many, no matter what method you use.
