[Q] Weird Popping/Ticking noise while playing music or video - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This is my Galaxy S3 I9300T (AU Vodafone)
For some reason there's this weird ticking or popping noise, when i play a music or video.
It only comes out when i have the bars on when playing videos and when i have music player screen on (when i play music from home screen, or when screens turned off this noise doesn't come out).
I have read some posts here, and changed my CPU settings to onemand by set CPU
but still did not work.
Would it be some kind of faulty? or should i wait for a firmware to fix this?
This is a video i took (mx player)

Does it happen with all players and music files?

Yes

Yes it does that to all the music files, and i've tried with 2 other music players including poweramp
still does that

You can fix it by flashing siyah kernel 1.3.7b and enable audio tweaks and crucially DISABLE LPA idle. Select Idle only

Music stops playing while gaming

Hey guys!
I'm experiencing this very annoying issue with my s3:
I usually play games and listen to music at the same time, and after a bit of gaming, the music stops. When I restart the music and go back to the game, after a few seconds it stops again.
If I exit the game and the close everything it's opened in the mean time using the task killer, and then restart the game and music is works fine for a few minutes after which it stops again.
Please note that this if happening with both PowerAmp and the stock music player. I am also on Omega 5.2, and the game I usually play is Real Racing 2.
Has anyone else encounter this? Any fixes?
Thanks!
Maybe real racing needs the ram music player have.. Does it do the same on other games?

it's not an exact thing...for example today i played the game for an hour straight while listening to music and did not stop...
i guess it's related to ram...
i also raised power amp's priority to the highest and it still stops while playing...
Does this happen on cm9 also?

I have this issue with music and browsing, a reboot sorted it out in the short term.. Annoyed Mr so much that I've resorted to listening to the radio rather than my music, frustrating.

haven't tried cm9...
Its probably not the ram... Or the ROM. Its sounding like its more or less an automated task killer?

I do use Advanced task killer, but I made sure to add the music players to the ignore list...It's not that the player process is killed, it just stops playing the music....it kinda' pauses..
It might be worth mentioning that I only have 16 bit, 44-48 kHz FLAC files...so no mp3's...but I expect the quad core inside my s3 to cope with that well...
nope.
music still playing in background while playing games with game sound and music on.
didn't have this problem in XXALEF nor now in XXALF6

it's not an exact test....I usually kill everything unnecessary before opening the music player and then the game.
Sometimes I get to play 10 minutes before the music stoping...sometimes I play 1 hour...
For the stock player, Music Player settings, there is a Music Auto Off setting. But since it is like happening randomly in your case and even in PowerAmp, I doubt this is the cause but you might want to look into it .

yeah, the music auto off setting is set to off..
Maybe its due to the motion control..Go to settings>Motion>Go to "Turn over to mute/pause" option> Turn it off> Might solve the problem, Not sure!:silly:
Also try turning off "Palm touch to mute/pause" option in "Settings>Motion" itself
Music playback stops(pauses) the moment i launch Need For Speed Most Wanted(EA )....only with this game.......
Plays perfectly fine for other games....(No matter either its the play music or a third party player)

I doooooo same damn problem for NFSMW(Droid)
Launching game pauses music playback....cant play both at the same time.....(playback's perfectly fine 4 other games)
Its probably RAM problem. You can try change kernel settings: Govenor to ondemand, and Internal SD to sio.

music pauses when opening apps?

well the app itself keeps running, just that the music just "blacks out" for a short period. for example, im playing a song. at 00:10 i open an app, and the music blacks out, even though the music player is still running. then the music returns at say, 00:13. is the s3 supposed to stutter like that? =( or isit a problem with the default music player?
sounds like a buffering problem, with power amp you can tweak buffer settings,

Audio Skipping?

Has anyone else run in to random audio skipping? Sometimes I open up Google Music, or another music player, and inexplicably get skips in every song I play.
It seems the only player immune to this is the stock player.

Have you tried poweramp/player pro while setting priority to high or something of the sort?
Sent from my Nexus G LTE
i have had this problem as well....it went away on JB...but jellybean has had other quirks....less annoying but....i did not have it on stock ICS...stock had messaging issues....audio skipping had to go so i have settled on JB.....the quirks for JB have been video and call related...video stutters(minor) and calls not connecting(it took a month to manifest)

[Q] CM11 music playing stops after lock the screen

Hi,
I got today's build of CM11 (20131209) and when I play music using poweramp or another music player, if I lock the screen, the music stops and even after unlocking the screen I have problems playing music. Like the music seems to be played, but there's no audio. Any ideas what to do with it?
It is listed as a bug in there known issues

I ran into the same problem too, try going into settings > sound and disable screen lock sound, that worked for me.

[Q] Audio sync issues on video playback

This is my second question-post today, I apologize, but this is the final issue I've been trying to figure out.
I thought it could possibly be related to this post about BT audio lag (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2606441) but I just disconnected my jambox when this came up and the audio delay continued on the internal speaker.
I use MX Player Pro for videos, and when I resume a video (doesn't happen every time), the video lags behindthe audio anywhere from a few milliseconds to over 3 seconds. It isn't enough to pause and then resume, I have to exit to the home screen and kill the MX Player background process. Then I can reopen the app and play the video. Sometimes it takes more than one try to get it synced again. It's as if the CPU is struggling to keep up.
Has anyone experienced this?
Any audio over bluetooth will have a delay.
It's possible that if you disconnect BT mid play it will still play the audio at the same point it left off so continue the delay.
I'm betting if you play the movie without BT it's fine?
If not, try enabling/disabling hardware acceleration.
What format and quality is the file you're trying to playback?

I never really watch videos without my Jambox speaker, so I have tested it by disconnecting the bluetooth when the delay occurs, and it continues to occur once the sound routes through internal speaker. I haven't tested it by only playing through internal speaker, so I will focus on trying to recreate the problem that way.
The DTS codec from the XDA thread is the updated one which is fully functional with updated MX Player 1.7.26.
I have MX Player set up for HW+ for Video and SW for Audio. I tried HW+ for both and SW for both and it didn't change anything.
The files vary from .mkv to .mp4, etc, depending on the torrent I download. It doesn't seem to favor one file type over the other. Quality wise has been 720p, 1080p, and less, doesn't matter there either.
Like I said before, it seems like the audio is being processed great but the CPU is struggling with keeping the video up. I could reformat my phone again and do a clean install, although I fully wiped the device before installing rooted .136 this time.

Nope, still happening. I just opened a video for first time today, without bluetooth connection, and there was about a half second delay. It sure is annoying.

Then it's either mx player not handling the format very well or its the file itself. Try bs player see if same happens.
