Has anyone found a car charger that works? There are a few on Ebay claiming to be 15v 1.2a but I'm not convinced, be good to get a recommendation.

Just get a car inverter with usb adapater from amazon. I've tried to cheap it out on ebay before, if it's cheap it's junk. You get what you pay for.
I purchased from amazon
NTK 12V 2.0 A MINI BULLET STYLE CAR CHARGER
worked just fine in my ford
I have a cig lighter / usb adapter that works well. It has a 1v and 2.1v usb ports to support phones and tablets respectively.

I have one of those but they are a bulky solution, I'd rather it wasn't kicking around the footwell all the time.

Not on amazon.co.uk sadly, but I'll try a different brand. I assume the fact it is 3V undercharged just means the charging takes longer than with AC?

Warning! Check out the reviews of the same item but with a TF101 charge cable. Two times more 1 reviews than all others combined with most saying that the charger killed their Transformer.

After some reading, as long as you get a charger with 15V @1.2A / 5V @2A with a USB 3.0 cable you'll be fine. Otherwise the tablet will have to be off for it to take a trickle in charge.
I bought this one:
(Can't post links so here's the code that you should find the item using search in amazon.co.uk)
B007VLY2D2
Charges just fine even when the pad is powered on except that when charging it seems to interfere with my cars fm-radio so much that i lose some of radio channels...

Watch out the Output combination voltage and Amperage
What I understand is the original AC adapter is 15v 1.2a (18 watts). So we have to look for car charger output either 15v 1.2a
(http://www.caseen.com/ASUS-Transformer-TF101-Car-Charger-15V-12A_p_198.html) or 9v 2.0A (18 watts) or 12v 1.5A (18 watts).
The NTK car charger output 12v 2.0A (24 watts). That could be why some people report their Transformer got grilled ! But usually the 2A is the max, the TF draw 1.5A only.
I did use the car charger for iPad 5v 2.1A (10 watts) to charge my TF300T (screen off/sleep) successfully but it took longer time. Almost double time of the AC adapter.

So I've been thinking - the TF has a power requirement of 5V/15v at 2/1.2A, which is the same requirement as the ipad. Really wouldn't see any reason why this wouldn't work so long as the charger has a usb port and you use your OEM cable.
Much easier finding chargers for ipads than the TF, for now. Have some home and car chargers on order and will post results later.
TF's charger requirement is 15V.

best buy has a usb charger that you can get, its called a dynex ultimate charger for cameras and camcorders. its like 30 bucks and charges at 11 volts / 1.5 amps. it works great. I had to get one when my usb charger melted. Its the only one that I have found to work. I tried around 30 of them lol

That was the first time I plugged the Transformer in. I didn't even get a full charge out of the thing.
The transformer charger can shift between [email protected] or [email protected]
I have confirmed with my multimeter that the voltage is 5V when charging the transformer
The [email protected] is to charge the keyboard dock, but do not own one to confirm
You can use other chargers, its just Asus's stupid smart charger makes the charging indicator comeup when using the official charger, it also chargers faster, need someone with an electrical background and an oscilloscope to probe it out
I have been meaning to do a test on charging times with different chargers
Overall, as long as the charger is [email protected] under (ex. [email protected]) It will charger, the Transfromer will not show it, but if you check on it the percentages goes up
Ipad chargers are at [email protected] so give it a try
looks like the ac adapter is available online...

Cool, at first glance it looks like the cable is longer because of how many times its looped around. I just wrapped my cable around and looks close but not that exaggerated, you think Asus differed the photo? Lol

Wonder if it would be safe to charge iPhone and iPad through Asus "block".
I plugged my iphone 4 into the Asus block and it seems to charge fine. How safe it is, is another question entirely, but I can confirm it does charge the phone, and the thing didn't spontaneously explode or anything
I was just looking at this;

Will this do it or is it likely to fry things at "Output: DC 15v/5A"?

I am always apprehensive when the item description is not consistent. The heading reads "5V 2A AC Adapter Charger for ipad 2 UK" whereas the output specs are 15V/5A as you stated...

I had reservations on getting the dynex charger but I hate only having charger for any unit I have. I bought it as a backup and cord lenght...lenght is very good. I received the transformer the next day from Amazon and saw the shortness of the stock cable. Brought out the dynex charger set it at. 11 volts and plugged it in and Viola...charges. 11 volts is lower then 15 but it still managed to charge from 29 percent to 100 in a acceptable and fairly good pace. I now use this charger over the stock because the stock charger gets really hot if used for a long time and I really don't feel comfortable. Using it.

I noticed that too but when I plug it in at night the next morning it's cool. I guess it heats up only when actively charging. Towards the end it should go down to trickle or no charge at all.

Yeah, probably too much of a gamble. Can't even put it down as a Chinglish translation problem when it's figures that are wrong.

Has this been confirmed? I've tested voltage from a USB 3.0 cable from the Asus AC charger and saw 8V. I'll be testing while connected to the tablet once I get my extension cable in. Thread link in signature
Firstly, how many cells is the Lithium battery in the tablet? In other words what is the voltage of the battery at full charge?
It looks like it requires a 12V adaptor to charge, so that means you couldn't use the wall adaptors for like a smartphone like the Droid X that puts out 5v at 1A?
I ask because on asus' webpage documenting the charger it says 5v 2A or 15V 1.2A (EeePad only).
If you haven't seen it, give this a read.
The first topic there addresses the 5v and 15v nature ...
So, the Prime does need 13V to charge? It can't charge on 5V, like a USB port?
I also wanted to get this:
http://www.amazon.com/New-Trent-iDu...0Q42/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1325117562&sr=8-4
As a backup when traveling but it only puts out 5V, it says it will charge an iPad will it charge the prime?

Thanks for the link on 5v vs 15v. I had read this before but forgot about. I have added this information to my accessory guide.

Are the TF101 and TF201 wall chargers compatible with each other?
I thougth I read that they were the same adaptor but I'm not sure. I'm still wondering if the prime charges when plugged in the computer.

I think I read that it needs to be a wall charger, wont charge from the pc since it needs 12v to charge.
That's a little inconvenient I wish I could have gotten that external battery as a backup...

YES, I ordered the TF101 charge on December 8 taking a gamble that it was the same for the TF201. I received the keyboard on Dec 21 which I have charged with this charger. I also ordered up a couple of the 5ft USB cables. My PRIME arrives today.
This company has had a car charger designed specifically for the Prime.

Anyone tried this that can report how well it charges? I have 1amp car charges for my phones and 1.2 doesn't seem like it would make a big difference. I would like to get a 2.1 amp charger made for the ipad as that should work well. I bought a Gtmax brand dual usb car charger on ebay, 1amp port for phones and a 2.1 amp port for tablets. First one I received did nothing on either port. My replacement charges my phone great with the 1amp, but the 2.1aml doesn't charge my Prime and I'm currently waiting on another replacement. Ready to just buy one that I know will work and be done with it....

still not going to work
I hate to break it to you but there was nothing wrong with your charger. the standard usb charger can put anywhere from .001 amps all the way up to 2.5 amps but the standard for usb voltage is 5 volts. that never changes. what asus has done is changed the charger voltage from 5 to 15 volts and that's what is running on there charger. so the aftermarket car charger is only putting out 5 volts and no matter how many times you exchange it you will only get 5 volts out. you need to look for a special charger made for the prime that outputs 15 volts.
Bought this one yesterday:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=251011821156
Will report back as soon as it is delivered.....
I am going to a venue next weekend and I'm quite sure my prime will run out of battery, I can't get to a plug socket at the venue but I can charge it in the car however using the charger cable and a lighter socket adaptor it doesn't seem to charge.
How can I charge my tablet when I'm out, is there any solar option or an extra booster battery pack or something.
I am also looking for an alternative charger for when I'm at home because the cable is so small I can't have the tablet charging on my desk where I want it because the cables too short.
Buy a power converter. They are cheap.

No, like this one.

Not sure if anyone else is looking for a spare wall charger like I was or not, but I found one on eBay that looked the same as the OEM one, and I bought 2 of them so I could have one somewhere else at home, and also have one to carry with me when travelling. If anyone is interested, the seller was accesscables and the item I bought specifically is here. They arrived yesterday and both work for charging. They look like Chinese knock-offs as they have the same information printed on them as the original charger.
I've tested some of not original chargers, all they works fine.
There is 5V 2A output on original samsung charger, but to make charge it must have output from 0,85 to 2 Ampers (and 5 volts, of course).
This one from DX (sku: 48615 with european plug) works just fine, it has 5V 1A.
The ideal is 5V 2A - it make charge faster.
Would this charge fine on an iPhone charger, or a universal car charger?
I am currently using THIS for my mobile and tab ,really light smart
As this may be off topic, but what I did was is I went to walmart and bought http://www.walmart.com/ip/RCA-WPW2UWR-RCA-Wall-Plate-with-2-USB-Charging-Outlets-White/20976676 . Now I just take my charger that came with me as the spare

Nice find. When I sold my first gtab I kept the charger just to charge my phone with. Glad I did. Didn't know they were $20.
I use my iPhone & iPad USB chargers. Also a belkin mini surfer protector.

I use an Apple USB charger for travel, works without any problems for me. Only disadvantage is that its charging woth just 1Amper.
