Official ICS OTA vs VM Leak - HTC EVO 3D

I was wondering if there was a difference between both.

As of right now, the official ics ota is for gsm phones while the vm leak is the basis for ICS on CDMA phones.

Thanks. How so? Is there any noticable changes?
Sent from my PG86100 using xda app-developers app

Well obviously an official release would be meant for the phone/carrier you have, where the VM leak will not work properly on any device, and could brick it.

Since Your A CDMA User, Even When Sprint Does Release The Update, The Leak ROMs Would Be Better Because They Are Fully Functional, And Have Most ICS Bugs Ironed Out

Not necessarily. Obviously a custom rom is better vs an official, but he was asking about official vs the VM leak. The official is the better of the two since everything was made to work. With the VM leak, many things had to be "hacked" to get Sprint things to work. And we still don't have a way to change PRL. The official rom will be a better base to build roms off of since everything will work in the beginning, and we should have a new kernel.

Well the official Ice Cream Sandwich update is not out yet (I think until early to mid November). I'm sure there will be an SDK ROM (if not already) but they are hardly daily drivers. In the meantime, you can download this themed CM7 ROM from empiire. Its made to look like ICS. Its not just a theme though. It has other stuff too.
Edit : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1316039
Also there is an ICS launcher on the market by syndicate that is pretty cool.
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
I am using that ICS launcher. Its really cool on Empiires CM7/ICS rom. The dual core support made my phone into a burner plate so I am running the non dual core version. I just dont feel my phone should feel likes gonna melt steel when just playing music lol.
Hmmm. I'm running dual core with no issues.

Lol. This is looking to be a great weekend, though I feel sorry for all the devs who are going to be locked away in front of their computers for the next 24 to 48 hours re-basing/creating from scratch the crack that we are addicted to.
A BIG THANKS to all the great devs and all their hard work! We do greatly appreciate what you do and for putting up with us!
Ill be desensing anyways until aosp comes.

Kernel doesnt impact the RIL version wise. To my knowledge you would have to rewrite a new java RIL

Will we ever see a stable AOSP build?

I've been watching development progress on this since I bought this phone back in March. I'm running one of the latest CM9 builds and while it runs very well, there are still a number of issues with it in terms of stability and functionality. As we know, development on CM9 has mostly come to a standstill.
I've been excited keeping up with the CM10 progress and how it seems to be coming to a usable and relatively stable state, however now I'm reading everybody is working on getting CM10.1 booting instead of continuing to fix the issues with CM10.
Now I don't want to seem unappreciative of the work our developers do on their free time, but what's the point of all of this effort if it doesn't result in a good, usable product?

What exactly makes cm9 unusable? As far as I know blue tooth (Edit) and MHL are the only things that have yet to be perfected. I've run a couple cm9 builds that really blow jb on my friend's phones away.

With everything 100% working? No you won't. Blame it on HTC, not us.
And cm9 runs fine. 10 runs great but has a purple camera and the FFC isn't likely to get fixed easily, if ever. We don't have the jb blobs for it. And the ICS blobs only support pmem.
Can always go back to pmem for everything but it runs terribly then.
The point is I like to tinker and problem solve. Brain exercise so to speak. I don't release ROMs for this reason. I have zero desire to provide support for them. I personally just like to see what I'm able to do and build skills.

Understood. I really didn't mean to be seem to be assigning blame -- I'm extremely appreciative of and wholly admire the work you and others have put into this device. I was asking as a genuine question as it was unclear to me what kind of direction is being aimed for and what the goals are.
Keep doing your thing, and I appreciate the input. :good:
And I'm far from an expert on these things (my background is in system administration and networking, not programming), but on the camera issue, doesn't the Rezound use the same camera module as the Droid Incredible? I know there are working CM10 builds with everything on the camera working but video. Perhaps this could be of use?

Yep, I'm very much over flashing some "ROM CHEF" crap these days.
I am very content waiting up to a month for the official 4.3.
...I do doubt, however, that we will actually have it before the end of Sept. No matter what HTC's executive tweeted. Just zero trust with OTA promises. We shall see.

That comment was unessary, just because u don't flash Roms doesn't mean you have to hate on the hard working devs.
That "crap" that you flash is provided to you for free and the developer uses his time/resources to provide for you, u should be thanking them for trying instead of calling it crap. Or at least provide constructive criticism. I'd like you to build a ROM based on a leak
