[Q] (Help needed) - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Gurus,
As I am not allowed to post in the original thread, thus I am asking my question here.
this is the actual thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1742493&page=8
I am using stock Samsung ICS firmware (DXLP9) beforehand, rooted using CF root. Yesterday I tried this rom and encountered some issues.
1) After flashing this ROM, i didn't do a wipe (i guess there is no need to as per the title)
2) I notice only applications installed on phone memory will appears on the desktop, I mean on the "Downloaded App" tab itself. Apps installed on SD card will not be shown. Why is this so? Did I miss out something?
3) the Music app will FC when selecting the "End" options to close this program
I have reverted back to my original settings.
Could someone help me? thanks

Even a noob who flashed multiple times would know, it is crying for a wipe.

Haha yes do a factory reset and try again.

i am really a noob cos I flashed only once. you know, it can be very confusing and 'life threatening' for noob like me as some ROM requires flashing of kernel while some don't need, I have been reading till i give up. then there is this bootloader thing. Frankly speaking i also don't know what's the version of bootloader my set is using.
So for all ROMs I installed, I will do a wipe (factory reset, wipe davik cache etc). Is that correct?
thanks

YES

[Q] Force Close Loop. How can I fix this?

I haven't downloaded anything recently, I literally just picked up my phone after I woke up and I got a message saying "the application tasks provider has stopped working unexpectedly" and it gives me the option to force close. When I close it, a similar message pops up for email, messaging, social hub, tw launcher, facebook and it keeps going on and on without giving me a chance to use the phone. Do you guys know what I can do? I would be extremely grateful if you could help me out.

Bwahahahaa ;-) Gold.
Yes i've tried that. I've take the battery pack, memory card and sim card out, then replaced them but the loop keeps occuring. It's gotta be more of a software issue and that's why I need your help.
You haven't told us anything whatsoever about your setup/rom/kernel/etc. We're not mind readers
Try a factory reset in the first instance.
If you're running anything other than stock firmware, go back to stock firmware.
i recomendeed to change your rom..
i think that is a crush from your system, mate..
About 4 months ago I had exactly the same problem.
Is there Debugging-Mode enabled in you're phone?
Is you're phone rooted?
Try to take out only the SIM Card and then connect it to you're PC. Then turn the S2 on and try to backup all you're data.
If you're phone is rooted, try to boot up in CWM Recovery Mode and go to "advanced" and then "Fix Permissions". It shuold solve you're problem.
If you're phone isn't rooted, then you have to flash a stock or custom ROM.

Sorry about that man, but I have no idea what my setup/rom/kernel is, don't even know what most of that means. The thing is I can't even go to the settings on my phone to check because the popups won't allow me to.

I know about technology but not like this. I have no idea what debugging mode/rooted or cwm recovery is. Any chance of explaining it to me in really, REALLY easy terms?
Sorry about my lack of knowledge guys, but I wholeheartedly appreciate you taking the time out to give me a hand.
1. Try wiping all data (fixed when i had the problem)
1. U need a kernel with CWM recovery (recommend siyah kernel)
2. Install with odin look on these forums for odin dont remember link
3. go to recovery (vol up+home button+power) and wipe data/cache (wipes everything apps, passwords, etc)
4. Try now if works click the thanks button

No problem man
Okay...when you have root permissions on youre phone you can write in system files and do other administrative work.
You can root youre phone by flashing a rooted kernel. The kernel is something like the heart of youre Android OS. You have to know some facts about youre S2, to root it successfully.
You have to know which Kernel version is installed at the moment. This information you can find in Settings -> About Phone -> Kernel Version (or something like that...my S2 is in German ). But when youre phone is bricked or youre system is damaged, its really hard or impossible to find out the kernel version. I think you won't be able to root it successfully :-(
So the only one possibillity to rescue youre S2 is, to flash a new firmware.

And what exactly You did ?
Did You wiped data/cache/dalvik/batt stat ?
Wiped cache after flashing ?
Have You tried re-flashing ? Flashing different ROM or kernel ?
Rooted > flashed cwm 5.5 via odin > flash cm 9.1 > bootlooped
Thus i went to wipe cache/dalvik already. Must i wipe all user data? Will i lose everything in my phone? If yes i already backed up on my titanium backup before. Also did a nandroid backup before too. No i didn't try reflashing. I came from stock rom was running on android 4.0.3

You need to do a wipe data/factory reset in cwm. Its advised over and over and over and over and over again in just about every single rom topic. I honestly do not understand why so many n00bs fail to understand.

First of all turn it off, hold volume up + power untill you feel (1+) 3 vibrations, and charge.
What firmware version you had before?

I charged. I was previously using Honami MW HD™ V8 .. with nemesis 6.3.. I don't know why this happened. I have flashed several different ROMs earlier but no problem like this whatsoever occurred.
Oh and also, when i first flashed the ROM last night, I was using an older version of Flashtool. But then later i downloaded the latest version and flashed with it too but the result was still the same.

I would think it's the fact you did not clear data so you can try just that (exclude everything and just leave all clear options checked) or do full flash.

There 2 choices:
Have the data and not be able to use the phone.
Or, lose the data and be able to use your phone.
Up to you which you choose.
It's not like you didn't know it is advised to back up your data before flashing ROM

Try to flash the kernel you had, and perhaps the ROM too without wiping data, it's a long shot but nothing to lpse other than your time.
BTW what data are you worried about, some may be backed up on your google account.

I did flash Nemesis 6.3 but still the phone won't start. And I can't reach CWM even after flashing it but CWM is supposed to be installed along with the kernel. Why can't I go to CWM?
I'm worried about the pictures. I won't be able to recover them cuz I never really synced with google

What to do when you are internally and externally corrupted??

Hi Everyone
One of the senior contributors on here has been helping me via pm but I don’t want to keep bothering him and it would probably help to open up this issue anyway.
In essence, I’ve been unable to flash a variety of ROMS suggested by my friend on my 5380i (CM7, Extremesis etc).
Although the ROMs themselves are fine (checked MD5 etc), they have been mainly failing with abort message status 7. I finally got the Extremesis to install properly but then the phone got stuck at the first Samsung Galaxy screen.
I’ve had no probs restoring to stock with Odin but then keep repeating the problem when I try to flash.
Throughout the recovery process I’ve noticed various error messages when trying to wipe data, format system etc. One is when attempting wipe data from CWM. I get E format _volume rfs format failed on /dev / Stl.11 and similar with wipe cache but Stl.10 instead.
I’ve done some research and understand that this could be due to a corrupted internal card. Can anyone confirm this with a possible solution for my model?
II also get another one when wiping the dalvik cache in CWM. It says "Unknown volume for path sd-ext" I guess that must be linked to external sd. I've reformatted this many times so don't know what else that could relate to.
Either way it seems that I am “corrupted” internally as well as externally.
I’d really be delighted to hear from anyone who ever got any ROM to work on this damn model.
Many thanks Simon
Flash multiformater and there select rfs and then clear data and cache and then mount system and flash extremiss rom or any stock based custom roms..if u want to flash cm roms then u have to also flash cm7 kernel and and make system to ext4 thru multiformater and then flash any cm7 rom

Tried Extremesis again but phone still freezes on Samsung Galaxy opening screen!!
This is what I did:
1. Used multiformatter to set RFS and clear data and cache.
2. Used CWM to wipe data/factory reset.
3. Used CWM to wipe cache.
4. Wipe dalvik cache.
5. Mount system.
6. Format data, system and cache.
7. Installed Extremesis from zip.
I haven't tried CM7 as that involves the extra steps of cm kernel and mutiformatter to set to ext 4.
During this process I did note two error messages. First when wiping dalvik cache-unknown volume for path sd-ext and then when booting into CWM-Can't mount cache /recovery /latest log
Really confused and frustrated now.

How about, use odin and flash stock rom. Use all 5 files (pit file, pda, modem, csc boot)
After restars phone into recovery. Format system, data and cache. Mount everything, flash rom(redownload it just incase).
Stop complaining, theyre are over 100 android forums which you can ask for help, and this phone is just under 4 years old, every single problem has been encountered from atleast one of us, so it is somewhere in this forum, so look harder. Nobody gives a sh*t about this phone anymore and rightfully so.

I'm sure nobody gives a sh***t, aside from my good lady wife, who kindly bought it for me. I know it's ancient history, but doyouknowot? it's still being sold in stores so has a certain currency, so to speak.
I know there are millions of android forums and I've spent the best part of two weeks combing thru them!!!!
I've also been liaising with my Indian friend who hasn't been able to assist, despite being more affable and articulate than you (not difficult!).
I don't really have a problem restoring with Odin. The errors and freezes occur when trying to install Extremesis and CM7, 9, 10,11...............
Having said that, there may be an issue as I'm only using PDA the version of Odin I've been using, and although that gets me back to stock it may contribute to the subsequent errors when trying to install the ROM. I'll try the multiple files when restoring to stock but not confident.
I think you need to go back to your comics son.

Fixing Rotation (Proximity Sensors) After Downgrading from Android O Dev Preview

Just tried a downgrade from the Android O Developer Preview (2), to 7.1.2 official Google images. Everything seemed to be going swimmingly, so I immediately rooted, and flashed Resurrection Remix 7.1.2.
What I did not count on was auto-rotation not working, and receiving no read on my proximity sensors at all. Thinking this was a ROM issue, I posted to the official ROM thread. Luckily, two users immediately responded telling me this was a known issue after downgrading from O, so I want to post it here in case anyone searches for it, hopefully the solution is easier to find.
Solution: Flash Official Google stock image of 7.1.2, check to see if rotation is working (it probably won't if yours wasn't previously). So now perform a Factory Reset (Settings->Backup & Reset->Factory Reset), some people have apparently needed to reset twice for the effect, but then your rotation/proximity should be fixed! Now you can return to doing whatever you wish with your 6P! Hopefully this will help anyone in need
Solution 2: After downgrading to the 7.x stock image, lock your bootloader. (Be sure to backup your internal!) Once you've locked it, boot up the device and unlock the bootloader again.
Solution 2.1: After you've locked the bootloader using Solution 2, boot up the device and perform a factory reset. Once that is done, boot up the device again before unlocking the bootloader again. Then continue on your Android journey!
Huge thanks to everyone sharing solutions and information on this thread!
I Had same issue and I was forced to go back to DP2, but now I'll try. Thanks for sharing solution

If you use WugFresh's root tool, flashing the stock images + unroot will wipe sdcard, however there is a "No wipe mode", but I've never tried it so I couldn't say what it involves/how it works.
The factory data reset(s) will not wipe sdcard, though you probably know that already, just including it in case you don't
Any other questions I'd be happy to answer the best I can

Not sure what a Fabric Reset would do, but factory data reset just wipes Data, Dalvik and Cache, not the sdcard.
I guess you're f**** with me though since I can't imagine someone with you're knowledge and "thanks" doesn't know what a factory data reset is lol.
Anyway, Fabric Reset needs to be an option
I found another solution on the 5X forums. After downgrading to N you need to lock and then unlock your bootloader again (wipes internal storage obviously). Worked for me. Clean install by itself didn't do anything to help.

For real man? First thing I did for you was answer that question, "The factory data reset(s) will not wipe sdcard" look back in the thread.
I certainly don't enjoy being pathetic, and wouldn't say I was. You typed "Fabric Reset" so I thought you were messing around since I answered you earlier.. I appologize for the confusion man, the factory reset (going through Settings-Backup & Reset-Factory Data Reset) wipes the Data, Dalvik, and Cache, your internal will be completely preserved during a factory reset. However, your apps and app data will be wiped sorry again if I came off ignorant I just misunderstood you :good:

Definitely weird, did you try the factory reset before that with no success? I was thinking that locking/unlocking the bootloader probably does something similar to a factory reset since it wipes the device.

Answering the question would be enough and I'd thank you, your thanks observation was just... useless and provocative.

I did factory reset more than once, but it didn't work
Worked for me. Thx.
Flashed latest factory image.
Relocked the BL
Booted up and performed a factory reset
Booted up again than back to the BL
Unlocked the BL
Added files
Flashed TWRP than flashed Rom of choice.
All good. Thx again!

I did answer the damn question, it was the first thing i did, but you decided to ignore it for some reason, and continue to ask the same question I had just answered, but with a typo, and a half sentence.
So my thanks observation was supposed to be a complement, I was trying to not insult your intelligence by either, answering a question I already answered, or answer a question you already knew. I was being sensitive.
Obviously us writing to each other completely lacks any form of human expression and tone, but try to actually read and understand before discrediting and insulting someone, especially while they're trying to help you.

Very interesting.. I'd love to find out how this works. Thanks for sharing your experience, but mostly I'm happy you were able to find a solution I will add the bootloader solution to the OP!
