I have seen one mention of someone having problems with their 64gb microSD card. Something about only being able to put on 3 games.
Now I asked them if perhaps they got a fake card, the card or their phone might be faulty? And if they have tried to get replacements.
As I have seen many on here talking about and buying various 64gb ranging from class 6 to class 10 / uhs 1..
I see people running speed tests and all around touting their happiness with it's performance in the SGS3.
So my question is how many, if any, have a problem with their SD on their SGS3?
Provide, if you would be so kind, any details that would help, such as brand, size, model.
I really hope it's an isolated issue.
Thanks,
-CC
had no problems with mine, just put it in and it worked straight away, using a
Sandisk 64gb microsdxc class 10 uhs 1
With only a few votes, so far with 6 Sandisk 64gb microSDXC class 10 uhs 1 owners..
Looking good in hopes for my delivery from Amazon in 5 weeks
We've got 8 votes for 64gb class 10 and no posted complaints from those 8 on this thread at least. Sounds promising still so far
I'm using a Sandisk 64gb microsdxc class 10, however sync seem to fail with Mediamonkey and Media player.
Initial sync works fine writing 40GB of mp3 however subsequent sync reports error/hang.
Card works fine in a PC and I tested it with 50GB of 1080P movies, it copied there well and played back flawlessly, so I think my card is good..
However there is something up with MTP sync....
Found 3 others people with the same issue here: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=66514
I'm gonna try syncing with kies tonight...
Everyone posting success with their 64GB sdxc, can you specific how you sync your media to the card?
Just straight drag and drop, Windows Media Player, Media Monkey, Songbird etc ?
I have a 64GB but I don't get my phone until (hopefully) later today. I did vote, I'll let you know how it goes until I get the S3.

The only problem is that you can cannot install programs in the Extsdcard because the galaxy s3 says the internal memory card IS NOT REAL, BUT IT IS EMULATED,
it doesn't mention at all that you have a 64gb in The Extsdcard...... AND I have a GENUINE 64 GB SanDisk ExtSd installed...

In the phone specifications you only have a 32gb external memori but if you format the 64gb sd inside sgs3 sometimes it recognizes it well. Try everything. :good:
Im using the 64GB class 10 and I did find I had to reformat it to fat32 as I was getting problems with exfat, like unseen folders in mtp mode and missed songs in my music folder even though all files were there.
Since then no probs at all and I use a drag drop system with syncing media although the 1st time I transfered my itunes songs(1922 tunes) I converted them all to mp3 and put the sdcard into an adaptor to speed up the transfer.
My 64gb ExtSd is working fine the problem is when trying to move apps to it with programs like Move2sd and the like. Then it says that the my Internal memory. Is NOT REAL BUT EMULATED

I am having great problems with a 64gb Class 10 card. If the data is copied to the disk before being inserted in the phone it registers as a damaged card.
However if you clear all the data via the PC then insert the blank disk it is recognised normally. You can then transfer the same data via a USB link from the PC via the MTP application. You may well have to load the Samsung USB drivers.
Sadly if you restart the phone it immediately reverts to the damaged card error message and you have to go all through the same procedure again. No ideal.

Anyone using the 16gb sd card? Are they worth it? Any problems with crashing? Amazon are selling Sandisk ones for £39.24, seems to be a good buy
I am using it a while (sandisk 16gb micro SDHC) but almost full (navigation maps, movies and music)
No problems with crashing.
I'm not using a 16gb but I'm using an 8gb card. It has to be the best thing I've bought for my Touch PRO yet. I have (most of) my music, (a few) movies, and TomTom all on one card.
A 16gb card would be a great investment though.
Just been looking at them myself, my only concern is the class they are, i heard and correct me if i am wrong you need a class 4-6 card for music and so on, due to the speed it runs at, and most 16gb ones i found are class 2.
I'm using Kingston 16GB Class 2. No problem.
Hi,
I also have a 8GB card but thinking of buying a 16gb card...my question is the apps I have installed.
Im not sure which apps I have installed on my card and which apps are stored on the HD's internal memory.
Would i simply copy the contents from the 8GB card to the 16GB card?

The 8gb that comes with the HD is only class 2.
I have a SanDisk 16gb class 2 and it works fine for all videos I encode with HD Encoder, and MP3 up to 320kbps that I have used.
Yes, it's a little slower copying files onto, but no big deal really.
i would really love to know what does the classes mean? will i see lot of improvements while going higher?
The classes of SD card are the minimum write speeds that the card will maintain. Basically comes down to 2MB/s, 4MB/s and 6MB/s. There are some details specified for how to measure this, but they aren't of much concern to the user.
The maximum read speed of the card may be different (likely). Both read and write speed will also depend on the device.
In short, you will notice the faster write speeds if you transfer music or films. I haven't noticed any problems when watching videos using my class 2 card, but can see the difference when copying from my PC to the cards.
thanks a lot for the information Taxythingy
Is there a massive difference between class 6 and class 2 while using the Touch HD? Or is the difference when you actually connect to the PC and transfer off and on?

That i did not know, i always used my class 6 due to not knowing for sure if it would cause issues or not. (Had the 8 gig on my hermes).
I guess then if HTC themselves issue a class 2 then looks like i am wrong then, and maybe worth doing the upgrade myself.

I used a free program to create an image of my 8gb card before I switched to a 16gb. You can get it here: http://www.runtime.org/driveimage-xml.htm
All my programs worked fine and my phone never knew I switch to the 16gb.
I am using a 16GB Sandisk with no problems.
Works just fine.
Copying speed to the disk is OK for me.
I am using a 16gb Sandisk with absolutely no problems. I watch movies; listen to music/audio books run large maps for GPS etc. In fact, if an application will install on the SD card I do so. I do not see any lag or delays whatsoever. The only thing is I am running out of space I need to upgrade to a 32gb when they become available
didn't know it's possible to insert 16gb card to the blackstone.
thought it's not supported, but glad to know i was wrong.
so.. i've already ordered a 16gb sd card, but i would like to transfer all the files
currently on my 8gb card to the new one. can i do that without any problems?
just copy&paste all the files from one card to another?
I've been using a Nokia 16Gb cars for a while now, and no problems. It's a class 2 card and I haven't noticed any difference in the behaviour of the device since I put it in.

I think the best method is to copy the contents of your current microSD to a new directory on your PC hard drive then copy all of the files from the new directory over to the new SD card. It doesn't hurt to make a backup of your SD from time to time.
sorry for taking a slight detour, but doesn anyone know when/if the 32gb cards are coming out? i've been holding off the 16gb and waiting for the 32gb one and i'm getting impatient
Hello!
Can anyone confirm that Nokia 16gb micro sdhc is works properly in HD or not?
Thx in advanced!
so I just bought this card cause I use lots of storage space pretty quickly, My question is wtf is going on here? it just sticks on "checking for errors" and never gets past it, it mounted up once and while I was dumping files on it over USB from my computer (in usb mass storage mode) both it and my internal storage just disappeared, the copy operation failed, so I restarted the phone and I have yet to get the phone to mount it since then.
I'm running eclipse 1.3rc2, is this because of the sd flip-flop, the size of the card or the fact that it's class 10?
the card works perfectly fine in my camera, and in multiple PCs, but as soon as I stick it in my X2, it just doesn't want to work.
I noticed the stock SD card has a "bootable" partition flag, whereas this one doesn't. maybe this is my problem?
also what filesystem should I use, I run linux on my PCs so I can do whatever I want with it.
what if I just delete its partition table, put it in the phone and then let the phone format it? I've reformatted it with my PC and no dice.

When I got the 8gb card and using now it was acting weird ...would copy files when in the phone. I formatted it using the phone and it has worked fine since.
Good luck.
I can't say it will work for u but it cured the problems I had at the time.
just make sure u format the right card since in eclipse its switched around and recognized as internal in menu.
well, It took exchanging it for a class 4, and now it seems perfectly fine.
so note to self (and others)
NO CLASS 10 CARDS IN DROID X2, IT DOESN'T FN WORK!

I don't think that is true...I thought I saw plenty of users say they use them.
Mine is class 6 and works just fine
Did u try formatting from in the phone while stock? Don't know if that would make a difference at all
I didn't read one single thread from someone successfully using a class 10 card without having issues, sometimes it took a few days/weeks, it only took me one mount/dismount cycle.
besides, the class 10 cards, while having a higher sustained transfer rate, their seek times and random access times are overall slower. basically these class 10 cards are ONLY good for digital video cameras and things that don't actually utilize a filesystem.
that or they're getting cheap chinese cards that are just remarked class 6 cards, the X2 can't read and write to a class 10 fast enough resulting in data corruption, period.
Yeah im not arguing
I understand what ur saying now
I can confirm class 6 being completely fine tho
I think the "issues" I had was the file size I was trying to transfer(4gb)
I don't think it's the class rating but the capacity. In my experience 32 gb cards just aren't as reliable as smaller-capacity ones. Perhaps it's a consequence of packing too many memory cells into such a small form factor, I don't know, but I've had three 32 gb micro-SD cards fail on me since the beginning of the year, whereas not a single 16 gb card has failed me yet.
I just dumped 4.8gb of crap on it, over usb and it took it like a champ, it's also significantly faster than the stock 8gb card in terms of mounting, remounting, scanning my media and even opening up fileexpert is faster.
class 6 i'm sure is fine, probably the best balance, but I can even take HD video straight to this card with no frame dropping or glitching. it's currently playing hd video on my hotel room TV right off the SD card w/ no issues (the stock 8gb couldn't do that)
Ha. Mine came wit a 2gb class 2 sdcard ...
Wait...now that I think about it.. I had bought a droid pro initially. It had a screen issue...I took it back and paid extra to get the x2. Then I told em I didn't wanna lose my pics/video I had taken and he switched the cards. So I guess he basically just kept the one I wax supposed to get instead of moving my data to the new one....prick...

Any ideas what may be the problem?

try formatting the block size to 32KB
An sd card does not need to be formated only hdd do... What couldve hapend is that your boot sector got screwed up. Try putting your sd card in an card reader and connect it to the pc. On windows 7 go to start type cmd and hit enter. Then type: chkdsk /X /F /A:, where A: is your card reader. Hit enter and wait. I revived a couple SD Card by this method. Without losing any data!
***Ignore this***
Edited for clarity.
I have a Class4 16 gb card. Worked well so far.
Guys - Can we lose the personal criticism here - this thread is bang on the money with a problem I'm really struggling with and I'd hate for the thread just to become a shouting match.
My daughters x10 Mini Pro (running latest paul-xxx version of CM7) is just refusing to play nicely with a Sandisk 8Gig Class 4 SDHC which has prviously worked perfectly in a Samsung Genio.
On the 8 Gig card music jumps between tracks as you are listening , apps moved to SD Card refuse to run, photos save OK and will open once in Gallery but then the jpgs get corrupted and cannot be reopened on the phone or when transfered to a PC.... and to crown it all I get random reboots/freezes.
If I drop back to an old Kingston 2 Gig Micro-SD (ie non-SDHC) everything on the phone works fine and yet when I format the 8Gig card on my PC, there are never any errors and I can then copy files on and off the card (via the card reader in the PC) multiple times with no issues.
Is this just a somewhat more extreme example of other peoples experiences or would you suspect my micro SD is b*ggered?
I suspect that this "quality" Sony phone is just so sensitive to SDHC cards that I need to get one which others can confirm works reliably and stick to it.
For now my daughter is content to run with the 2 Gig card and have a stable, working phone but obviously she'd like to carry more than a dozen Albums and Apps at any time.
Any advice?
I have a sandisk 64GB sdxc class 10 microsd card in my S3.
However I'm having a lot of issue syncing music to it ( around 40Gb of MP3s ) all theses issues seem to be related to using a 64GB card, as everything works fine with a 32GB one.
I've tried syncing with 2 softwares with similar results (Mediamonkey and windows media player). (MTP)
Basically the initial full sync works, however and re-sync afterward fail for various reasons (hang, mm report as full, report sync failure etc).
Card was formatted internally with the format in the system options.
I bought a 32gb card off a seller on eBay cause it was a ssteal and when I got it the first time it was OK but when i reformatted it it stopped saving my pics. I ended up finding out that the card had a crapload of bad sectors. so i got back in touch with the seller and asked for a refund. he sent out another card, same issue. I eneded up get a refund. might wanna see if there are bad sectors on it..
get an iPhone, NOTe gonna happen
How did you check for bad sector on a microsd?
Other users on mediamonkey forum reporting the same: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=66514&sid=eefac781d2db7377ac5c09936a9b0b18

Well seems like the card is good.... I guess there are very few people with a 64GB microsd..
Size DOES matter?
Apparently it does. I found a 4GB MicroSD and tried a Media Monkey playlist sync to the S3 tonight. I set up the MM autosync options per the normal procedures and then ran the autosync. A small test (40 songs, 220MB) worked great. I then added a larger playlist (220 songs, 1.5GB) and it went over as well. Playlists were auto-created on the device and I was able to access & play them w/o incident. Artwork and tags came across just fine in this small test. I haven't tried adding new songs to the playlist and resyncing yet, but will do so.
So where does this leave us? It seems like MM does work on the S3 within the limits of this test. Do we need to look at the 64GB problem as a Samsung issue or an ICS one? I guess we need to look around and see if other apps are having problems with the 64GB MicroSDs. Thoughts?
Are you having the same issue as I do with a 64Gb card?
I've tried with a 32Gb and everything works fine..

@ x-cimo: Yes, we're in the same boat, and on the same S3 thread over at Media Monkey. Dunno if 64GB MicroSD is an issue with all apps on the S3 or what. Hopefully someone else with experience one way or the other with a 64GB card will speak up to cast a little more light on this.

Unfortunately and hate to be the one to repeat it, the difference is between the real 64gb cards and the fakes..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1759774
Is there anyway to tell if one is fake? The card seem to work flawlessly in a PC.
The MTP on my rooted L9 is acting very strangely, and basically doesn't work. both internal and sd memory is recognized in Win7, but it freezes the explorer when i try to do some file operations, deleting and copying from seem to work, but copying to either internal or sd doesn't. (for example it would copy 3/10 mp3 files and then freeze) I also tried syncing with WMP and Winamp to no avail.

The drivers seem to be installed well, well enough to be rooted.
mtp on my older samsung t679 worked just fine.
Has anyone had similar issues?

The L9 is MTP only.
Looks like the SD card was the culprit. I was using a 32gb UHS-1 SDHC.
Everything works with an older 16gb class4 sd i found. Maybe this phone cant handle the new UHS class cards but they supposed to backwards compatible. I'm returning the new card
Anyway, i guess this post can be marked as "Answered"
This phone don't support UHS class cards. I also heard (uncertain) This phone don't support 32 GB Sandisk class 10 cards.
I have Adata 32gb 10 class and it works well, apart that using MTP is really slow. On my old Lg Black I got 16Mb/s, now I have almost 6Mb. I am forced to use card reader if I want to send a lot of files.

I have exactly the same problem. I have a "SanDisk Ultra Micro SDHC 32 GB Class 10" and sometime I have the same problem as described above (Explorer freezes...), especially when copying big file. From the phone, reading the micro SD seems not a problem. I installed the maps of a GPS navigation software on the sd card and they are used without problems by the software.
Honestly use a lower class 32gb is the only option as class 10's and UHS SD cards are not supported by alot of phone companys and developers for what reason many do not know but im sure theres a cheap route to get a good 32gb on a website or in store

i am a proud owner of a sandisk ultra 32gb microsd SH 1 and it loses files all the time, the explorer freezes, programs stored in SD stop to work..
so it seems there is a serious problem with handling that particular sd card type..
any solytion other than getting another type of SD card ? in my opinion this is a software driver problem with handling that type of cards
