Anyone else having issue with 64GB sdxc? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a sandisk 64GB sdxc class 10 microsd card in my S3.
However I'm having a lot of issue syncing music to it ( around 40Gb of MP3s ) all theses issues seem to be related to using a 64GB card, as everything works fine with a 32GB one.
I've tried syncing with 2 softwares with similar results (Mediamonkey and windows media player). (MTP)
Basically the initial full sync works, however and re-sync afterward fail for various reasons (hang, mm report as full, report sync failure etc).
Card was formatted internally with the format in the system options.

I bought a 32gb card off a seller on eBay cause it was a ssteal and when I got it the first time it was OK but when i reformatted it it stopped saving my pics. I ended up finding out that the card had a crapload of bad sectors. so i got back in touch with the seller and asked for a refund. he sent out another card, same issue. I eneded up get a refund. might wanna see if there are bad sectors on it..
get an iPhone, NOTe gonna happen

How did you check for bad sector on a microsd?
Other users on mediamonkey forum reporting the same: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=66514&sid=eefac781d2db7377ac5c09936a9b0b18

You should have got an SD adaptor with the card. Just need to plug it into you computer then in my computer right click on the SD card and run error check under the tools menu (windows)

Well seems like the card is good.... I guess there are very few people with a 64GB microsd..

Size DOES matter?
Apparently it does. I found a 4GB MicroSD and tried a Media Monkey playlist sync to the S3 tonight. I set up the MM autosync options per the normal procedures and then ran the autosync. A small test (40 songs, 220MB) worked great. I then added a larger playlist (220 songs, 1.5GB) and it went over as well. Playlists were auto-created on the device and I was able to access & play them w/o incident. Artwork and tags came across just fine in this small test. I haven't tried adding new songs to the playlist and resyncing yet, but will do so.
So where does this leave us? It seems like MM does work on the S3 within the limits of this test. Do we need to look at the 64GB problem as a Samsung issue or an ICS one? I guess we need to look around and see if other apps are having problems with the 64GB MicroSDs. Thoughts?

Are you having the same issue as I do with a 64Gb card?
I've tried with a 32Gb and everything works fine..

@ x-cimo: Yes, we're in the same boat, and on the same S3 thread over at Media Monkey. Dunno if 64GB MicroSD is an issue with all apps on the S3 or what. Hopefully someone else with experience one way or the other with a 64GB card will speak up to cast a little more light on this.

Unfortunately and hate to be the one to repeat it, the difference is between the real 64gb cards and the fakes..

Is there anyway to tell if one is fake? The card seem to work flawlessly in a PC.

Review: Best Buy's PNY 32Gb class 10 MicroSD

I bought one for $69.99 and put it in my phone. Using SD Tool to check, the result is awesome: Reading speed=>9MB/s, Writting speed>20Mb/s. Transffering the Transformer movie from my old HD2 Sandisk 16Gb class 2 to the new PNY took less than 2 minutes for a 1.5Gb
But then all of my media player (stock HTC, Cloudskipper, Winamp Pro, Rock Player, QQ player ect... none can access those media files but Root explorer still can see them and able to played the file from within Root Explorer app
I put back my old HD2 Sandisk 16Gb class 2 back into the phone and everything fine and all the media player apps works flawlessly. This told me that the problem are not from my phone/apps but rather from NPY SDCard - somehow
BTW the card is pre-format with FAT32 - as same with my old one
Any one using PNY microSD card and facing the same problem? If so please replied so we can alert others

No I did not but every other function works well - I've been using the card for the whole 24hrs and media files played well until 24hrs later. Perhaps I should try to format it then. Will report back.
BTW: How do I format the card with the phone Binary? By using CWM?

I saw function like: Unmount SD Card, Erase SD Card, SD Card Encryption, Make more space and factory reset but none as format
I think by erase SD card it means the same thing all my other phones don't have erase it says format but there are also apps for SD cards on the market to help you get it done. I got a 32gb and I formatted with my comp it took a bit but everything works great.

My PNY 32GB works fine, never had an issue with it, also bought it on sale for $39.99
Sorry for your troubles
I had bought a SDU32G10-EFS2 PNY 32GB class 10 sdcard and about two months later I began to lose my data. First thing I noticed was my clockwork backups were either losing my md5 files all together or the md5 checks wouldn't match up for my restores. Afterwards it began corrupting my data. I called PNY and got an RMA. They sent me a SDH32G10-EFS2 back. There may be a problem with the SDU32G10 models.

That's one of a hecking sweet deal
I did return the PNY and go to Fry's to check out their stuff yesterday, they had a Samsung 32Gb class 10 for $35.99. Grab it and test with SD Tool, the result is not quite as expected as writting speed never exceed 9Mb/s though. I guess I'll live with it until it ran out of capacity and perhaps by that time the Sandisk 64Gb price will drop a little bit.
My two years old Sandisk 16Gb class 2 that came with the HD2 still works flawlessly and I'm convinced now that nothing can bypass Sandisk when it come to quality. If someone happened to purchased the Sandisk SDXC 64Gb and used with out Amaze, please kindly report back

64G micro SD card for Galaxy Player?

Looks like there is a 64G micro SD by Sandisk. Will be good for my collections of lossless music.
http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Mobile-MicroSDXC-Memory-Adapter/dp/B005V7WIA2
Many claim that it works even on old Android devices. Just wonder if any Galaxy Player owners tried this yet?
Update:
Finally got one. Similar to the experience of other users, the player will think that the SD card is corrupted when mounted for the first time. Once you format it as instructed, it will work fine.
I have attached a couple of screenshots below for those who are interested. Two of the screenshots are benchmark of 64G Sandisk (Class 6) vs 32G Lexar (Class 10).

I think I read somewhere that the SDXC I cards are somewhat compatible with older devices but not fully. That "I" degignation is new and not supported by older SDHC devices. In older devices, the "I" cards would work at a slower speeds, I believe. In this case, Class 6... I think I have seen SDXC I cards being advertised as 50Mb/sec read speeds... at class 6, that would drop do avg. 6Mb/sec... so you loose the speed the "I" standard brings but the larger capacity always sounds good. In saying so, I have not tried these. I am however, very tempted...

I'd imagine it will work just fine. You just won't be able to take advantage of the "advanced speed" aspect.
If your interested in it, just purchase it with Paypal and return it if it doesn't work. I'd give it a try, but I'm fine with my 32GB + 16GB cards at this time.

And most important... if it works and can read the card!

That's a good news. I will probably take the plunge and report back. As for speed, class 6 should be sufficient for music storage. I used to use class 4 for that purpose, it was a bit pain to load the music onto it for the first time but playing music from it is not an issue.
Like Galaxy Player only supports 32Gb, sorry for my English
Works fine on my 5.0, formatted to FAT32, speeds around class 6 using r14 kernel on international
I am using one on the 5.0 U.S version.

Hi Ryzir.
I'd be interested if you could explain exactly what you did to make a 64GB microSD card work on a stock 4.0...?
I've tried formatting a 64GB Sandisk microSD card to FAT32 and my 4.0 doesn't recognise the card at all...
When I first inserted the card into the 4.0 it came up with some error (corruption?) and I selected format. Been working perfectly ever since.
I should note that I'm in the US. I believe there are slight differences between US and INT version.
Frustrating

I'm using what I think is the US version or at least with US language...still no joy. The card isn't recognised at all.
Unless you can offer more information looks like I'll have to continue without...or perhaps see if I can buy a UK based one....
The only other thing I can think of to suggest is to try and format with SD Formatter (Google it I can't post link yet)

Oh well I guess I'll have to way until they (or someone else) provides an alternative device with appropriate support.

Did you get the sandisk one mentioned above? And have you considered the possibility of a "bad out of box" situation? they can happen especially with electronics this small, I had a Kingston DDR laptop memory (best in the business IMHO) that was "bad out of box" so it is possible.

I did use a Sandisk card and I've managed to use it in another device (an Android tablet) without a problem.
I'm really very confused..I can only assume that I'd need to root my device perhaps...or...well I don't know. It's really very annoying and frustrating.
Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

I doubt rooting would make a difference, but at the same time there's no reason not to. (i had mine rooted within 6 hours of getting it out of the mailbox, and I had NEVER touched android before that moment) Maybe try rooting and flashing a popular custom ROM, Like Klins R5 and the Terrasilent kernel, at the very least doing the terrasillent (or any kernel available) along with rooting will give you the ability to use voodoo sound, and that alone is worth doing it for.
thats just weird, it reading in the other android means it should be good to go in the player.

[Q] SD card issue with I9300? Problems with 64GB microSD cards?

I have seen one mention of someone having problems with their 64gb microSD card. Something about only being able to put on 3 games.
Now I asked them if perhaps they got a fake card, the card or their phone might be faulty? And if they have tried to get replacements.
As I have seen many on here talking about and buying various 64gb ranging from class 6 to class 10 / uhs 1..
I see people running speed tests and all around touting their happiness with it's performance in the SGS3.
So my question is how many, if any, have a problem with their SD on their SGS3?
Provide, if you would be so kind, any details that would help, such as brand, size, model.
I really hope it's an isolated issue.
Thanks,
-CC

I'm using a Sandisk 64gb microsdxc class 10, however sync seem to fail with Mediamonkey and Media player.
Initial sync works fine writing 40GB of mp3 however subsequent sync reports error/hang.
Card works fine in a PC and I tested it with 50GB of 1080P movies, it copied there well and played back flawlessly, so I think my card is good..
However there is something up with MTP sync....
Found 3 others people with the same issue here: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=66514
I'm gonna try syncing with kies tonight...

Just straight drag and drop, Windows Media Player, Media Monkey, Songbird etc ?

In the phone specifications you only have a 32gb external memori but if you format the 64gb sd inside sgs3 sometimes it recognizes it well. Try everything. :good:
Im using the 64GB class 10 and I did find I had to reformat it to fat32 as I was getting problems with exfat, like unseen folders in mtp mode and missed songs in my music folder even though all files were there.
Since then no probs at all and I use a drag drop system with syncing media although the 1st time I transfered my itunes songs(1922 tunes) I converted them all to mp3 and put the sdcard into an adaptor to speed up the transfer.
My 64gb ExtSd is working fine the problem is when trying to move apps to it with programs like Move2sd and the like. Then it says that the my Internal memory. Is NOT REAL BUT EMULATED

I am having great problems with a 64gb Class 10 card. If the data is copied to the disk before being inserted in the phone it registers as a damaged card.
However if you clear all the data via the PC then insert the blank disk it is recognised normally. You can then transfer the same data via a USB link from the PC via the MTP application. You may well have to load the Samsung USB drivers.
Sadly if you restart the phone it immediately reverts to the damaged card error message and you have to go all through the same procedure again. No ideal.

There is a lot of fake SD cards floating around , where did you get yours and how much you paid ?
I to have sandisk 64GB sdxc formatted fat32 and it works perfectly fine.
Ebay, 70$.
I was able to transfer 50GB of movie and pull it back and it was playing fine, any idea how to see if it could be fake?
Did your format yours using the phone or a computer?
There are other users on mediamonkey forum reporting the same.. http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=66514&sid=eefac781d2db7377ac5c09936a9b0b18
What do you use to sync your music?
I used my other phone galaxy s2 to format it, but standard windows format should work also, at least it worked for my gs2 year ago.
Also when your gs3 reports it damaged, you should be able to format it from within the phone?
For music and videos I just drag and drop, sync programs don't like MTP mode, we don't have true usb storage mode.

I think my sd is good but will do more testing tonight, it seem to be something with MTP..
I will try drag and drop, but it worked with really big movie files...

What sync software do you use to sync your music?
64Gb Sandisk SDXC got it when it was $60 direct from Amazon. I transferred 20gb of MP3 with CheetahSync without issue. Have done a few sync more and totaled around 50gb in pics, data, music. No issue whatsoever.
Hey guys, I have issues.
my SDXC is sandisk ultra,, class 10, microsdxc, 64G from amazon, around $70 I believe.
since I got it, it was a hit and miss, I've formatted it on the phone to exfat, and loaded around 40G stuff to it, everything was fine for a day or two, during which I rebooted without any issues, and now after rebooting my phone says it's a damaged SD card.
I rebooted several times, my phone still refuses to read it.
I plug it into my laptop, the card is good, everything is still on the card. the format is exfat.
for some reason my phone just randomly un-recognises this card.
any thoughts? I hate to throw my $70 away...

no sync software.. just drag and drops. coming from a class 4 card.. the speed difference is real noticeable.
I'll give drag and drop a shot, however all the problem I am reporting are from sync software (Windows media player, Media monkey), thoses do a lot more than just adding new files. they read old ones and compare their content).
Do you overwrite existing files each time or just keep them untouch? (from drag and drop copy)
I am having mediastore / music corruption issues with a Sandisk class 10 64GB microSD card but I'm not at al sure if it's related to the card or to ICS.
My problem is listed in this thread:

I'd love to use drag and drop, but all of my music in imported or purchsed through iTunes and I have a lot of embedded metadata (like album art, lyrics), some of whicch like album art don't get copied directly with the file itself. Has anyone had a solution for this - i.e. NOT using a sync program like iSyncr and just coping to card via drap / drop and still get all the metadata?
you need to format your card via software on your computer to FAT32 64GB. i did and haven't had an issue since. good luck! you need to download some software to do it though as windows will only allow 32gb for fat32. i don't remember what program i used as i am at work.

Do you overwrite existing files each time or just keep them untouch? (from drag and drop copy)

I haven't overwritten files yet. I just delete the album folders if I don't want them there anymore and just drag in the new ones.

What music player are you using? I think PowerAmp will be able to read all that metadata.

PowrerAmp ang PlayerPro. And yes, they can read all of the metadata. Problem is that a straight drag and drop from an iTunes library does NOT copy all of the metadata. Some of it is centrally stored, I believe.
Tones you are correct... Your only option if you want to keep itunes is iSyncer, otherwise there are other solution such as mediamonkey, songbird, doubletwist..
However we are starting to move away from the subject.
So far I have to try, drag and drop just to see if my stuff gets corrupted, and also the FAT32 formatting.

How do I get this Oneplux X brick to work?

16gb is not even close to enough space I have 4 games alone that would eat up this space. I bought a 128 gb add in card to give me a total of 144 gb this should be more than enough right? No, every time I try and move something over to the card it unmounts. Verified the card is good on my computer. Tried both exFAT and NTFS with the same issues. Is this a ROM issue? If so Is there a 6.0 I can upgrade to once without having to go to a 5.0 just to redo everything when 6.0 is "official"? Right now this phone is worthless to me until I can get more space on it.
Really disenchanted with this phone after the Oneplus One worked so well a flawlessly.
Same problem here.
Im on stock unrooted 5.1.1 with oxygenos 2.1.3-x.
Hope there is a fix for this problem

Two things I can suggest to make sure it's actually the phone's problem:
1) Try another (ideally lower GB capacity) SD card and see if it does the same thing.
2) Try to format the SD card to FAT32.
I've got a 32GB card and it's formated with FAT32. After 2 hours of checking the problem is still persistent.
The problem is only showing in some cases, if apps try to access the external storage. If I delete stuff with the files application there is no problem. When I add folders to the card there is no problem either and I also can save files on the sd card manually.
Isn't there the probability it's a software fault in the applications with this problem?
I did a 16 and a 32 as well specs say it supports 128gb, same result.
Just did Fat32 as well, same result.
I am seriously thinking this may be a rom issue and I am hoping to hell its not a hardware design issue.

Thanks. I am using the same version and the card really does not seem to be the problem at all. I did card checks on them. I did all the different formats. These cards are all working flawlessly on my computer and in multiple other devices. I just opened a ticket with their support and it says it is 10 days response!!!! If I play around with rom flashing will they still take it back if I can't make these work? 16gb is not something I can live with and at 20+ bucks a pop I don't want to have to go around card searching.

Can you please post their answer in this thread. Then I can decide whether opening a ticket as well, or not. Thanks.
At first, didn't you know the X has only 16 gb before buying the phone ?

I knew the X only has 16gb. But I assumed, as the specs tell, there is a sd card slot inside, ready to use and that's currently not the case. And the sd card slot was one of the features which led me to buy this phone.
I had the same problem. Are you rooted? If you are, try this. It worked for me. Titanium Backup kept telling me I had insufficient space on my 128gb card, but this fixed it. All it does is make a platform.xml edit.

OnePlus said an OTA is planned for early January with more fixes for SD card and gaming performance improvements, seems just the kind of update you need
Nice. I hope this will fix the problem. Thanks for the info
@StumpedTechy: Die OnePlus reply anything or are you still waiting? It would be nice to know how to deal with this problem
