How do I get this Oneplux X brick to work? - OnePlus X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

16gb is not even close to enough space I have 4 games alone that would eat up this space. I bought a 128 gb add in card to give me a total of 144 gb this should be more than enough right? No, every time I try and move something over to the card it unmounts. Verified the card is good on my computer. Tried both exFAT and NTFS with the same issues. Is this a ROM issue? If so Is there a 6.0 I can upgrade to once without having to go to a 5.0 just to redo everything when 6.0 is "official"? Right now this phone is worthless to me until I can get more space on it.
Really disenchanted with this phone after the Oneplus One worked so well a flawlessly.

Same problem here.
Im on stock unrooted 5.1.1 with oxygenos 2.1.3-x.
Hope there is a fix for this problem

Two things I can suggest to make sure it's actually the phone's problem:
1) Try another (ideally lower GB capacity) SD card and see if it does the same thing.
2) Try to format the SD card to FAT32.

I've got a 32GB card and it's formated with FAT32. After 2 hours of checking the problem is still persistent.
The problem is only showing in some cases, if apps try to access the external storage. If I delete stuff with the files application there is no problem. When I add folders to the card there is no problem either and I also can save files on the sd card manually.
Isn't there the probability it's a software fault in the applications with this problem?

I did a 16 and a 32 as well specs say it supports 128gb, same result.
Just did Fat32 as well, same result.
I am seriously thinking this may be a rom issue and I am hoping to hell its not a hardware design issue.

Thanks. I am using the same version and the card really does not seem to be the problem at all. I did card checks on them. I did all the different formats. These cards are all working flawlessly on my computer and in multiple other devices. I just opened a ticket with their support and it says it is 10 days response!!!! If I play around with rom flashing will they still take it back if I can't make these work? 16gb is not something I can live with and at 20+ bucks a pop I don't want to have to go around card searching.

I knew the X only has 16gb. But I assumed, as the specs tell, there is a sd card slot inside, ready to use and that's currently not the case. And the sd card slot was one of the features which led me to buy this phone.

I had the same problem. Are you rooted? If you are, try this. It worked for me. Titanium Backup kept telling me I had insufficient space on my 128gb card, but this fixed it. All it does is make a platform.xml edit.

Nice. I hope this will fix the problem. Thanks for the info

64G micro SD card for Galaxy Player?

Looks like there is a 64G micro SD by Sandisk. Will be good for my collections of lossless music.
http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Mobile-MicroSDXC-Memory-Adapter/dp/B005V7WIA2
Many claim that it works even on old Android devices. Just wonder if any Galaxy Player owners tried this yet?
Update:
Finally got one. Similar to the experience of other users, the player will think that the SD card is corrupted when mounted for the first time. Once you format it as instructed, it will work fine.
I have attached a couple of screenshots below for those who are interested. Two of the screenshots are benchmark of 64G Sandisk (Class 6) vs 32G Lexar (Class 10).

I think I read somewhere that the SDXC I cards are somewhat compatible with older devices but not fully. That "I" degignation is new and not supported by older SDHC devices. In older devices, the "I" cards would work at a slower speeds, I believe. In this case, Class 6... I think I have seen SDXC I cards being advertised as 50Mb/sec read speeds... at class 6, that would drop do avg. 6Mb/sec... so you loose the speed the "I" standard brings but the larger capacity always sounds good. In saying so, I have not tried these. I am however, very tempted...

I'd imagine it will work just fine. You just won't be able to take advantage of the "advanced speed" aspect.
If your interested in it, just purchase it with Paypal and return it if it doesn't work. I'd give it a try, but I'm fine with my 32GB + 16GB cards at this time.

That's a good news. I will probably take the plunge and report back. As for speed, class 6 should be sufficient for music storage. I used to use class 4 for that purpose, it was a bit pain to load the music onto it for the first time but playing music from it is not an issue.
Like Galaxy Player only supports 32Gb, sorry for my English
Works fine on my 5.0, formatted to FAT32, speeds around class 6 using r14 kernel on international
I am using one on the 5.0 U.S version.

Hi Ryzir.
I'd be interested if you could explain exactly what you did to make a 64GB microSD card work on a stock 4.0...?
I've tried formatting a 64GB Sandisk microSD card to FAT32 and my 4.0 doesn't recognise the card at all...
When I first inserted the card into the 4.0 it came up with some error (corruption?) and I selected format. Been working perfectly ever since.
I should note that I'm in the US. I believe there are slight differences between US and INT version.
Frustrating

I'm using what I think is the US version or at least with US language...still no joy. The card isn't recognised at all.
Unless you can offer more information looks like I'll have to continue without...or perhaps see if I can buy a UK based one....
The only other thing I can think of to suggest is to try and format with SD Formatter (Google it I can't post link yet)

Did you get the sandisk one mentioned above? And have you considered the possibility of a "bad out of box" situation? they can happen especially with electronics this small, I had a Kingston DDR laptop memory (best in the business IMHO) that was "bad out of box" so it is possible.

I did use a Sandisk card and I've managed to use it in another device (an Android tablet) without a problem.
I'm really very confused..I can only assume that I'd need to root my device perhaps...or...well I don't know. It's really very annoying and frustrating.
Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

I doubt rooting would make a difference, but at the same time there's no reason not to. (i had mine rooted within 6 hours of getting it out of the mailbox, and I had NEVER touched android before that moment) Maybe try rooting and flashing a popular custom ROM, Like Klins R5 and the Terrasilent kernel, at the very least doing the terrasillent (or any kernel available) along with rooting will give you the ability to use voodoo sound, and that alone is worth doing it for.
thats just weird, it reading in the other android means it should be good to go in the player.

Anyone else having issue with 64GB sdxc?

I have a sandisk 64GB sdxc class 10 microsd card in my S3.
However I'm having a lot of issue syncing music to it ( around 40Gb of MP3s ) all theses issues seem to be related to using a 64GB card, as everything works fine with a 32GB one.
I've tried syncing with 2 softwares with similar results (Mediamonkey and windows media player). (MTP)
Basically the initial full sync works, however and re-sync afterward fail for various reasons (hang, mm report as full, report sync failure etc).
Card was formatted internally with the format in the system options.
I bought a 32gb card off a seller on eBay cause it was a ssteal and when I got it the first time it was OK but when i reformatted it it stopped saving my pics. I ended up finding out that the card had a crapload of bad sectors. so i got back in touch with the seller and asked for a refund. he sent out another card, same issue. I eneded up get a refund. might wanna see if there are bad sectors on it..
get an iPhone, NOTe gonna happen
How did you check for bad sector on a microsd?
Other users on mediamonkey forum reporting the same: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=66514&sid=eefac781d2db7377ac5c09936a9b0b18

Well seems like the card is good.... I guess there are very few people with a 64GB microsd..
Size DOES matter?
Apparently it does. I found a 4GB MicroSD and tried a Media Monkey playlist sync to the S3 tonight. I set up the MM autosync options per the normal procedures and then ran the autosync. A small test (40 songs, 220MB) worked great. I then added a larger playlist (220 songs, 1.5GB) and it went over as well. Playlists were auto-created on the device and I was able to access & play them w/o incident. Artwork and tags came across just fine in this small test. I haven't tried adding new songs to the playlist and resyncing yet, but will do so.
So where does this leave us? It seems like MM does work on the S3 within the limits of this test. Do we need to look at the 64GB problem as a Samsung issue or an ICS one? I guess we need to look around and see if other apps are having problems with the 64GB MicroSDs. Thoughts?
Are you having the same issue as I do with a 64Gb card?
I've tried with a 32Gb and everything works fine..

@ x-cimo: Yes, we're in the same boat, and on the same S3 thread over at Media Monkey. Dunno if 64GB MicroSD is an issue with all apps on the S3 or what. Hopefully someone else with experience one way or the other with a 64GB card will speak up to cast a little more light on this.

I assume you mean 128gb, and yes. I've had a 128gb class 10 in mine for close to a year now and it's working great.
The problem you describe is a well known issue with SD cards that have gone bad. It's an attempt by the built in controller on the card to preserve whatever is on the card currently.

SD cards don't usually come on odd sizes. Almost always a power of 8. Weird.
Also, just because you bought it yesterday doesn't mean it's not bad. Ever heard of manufacturing defects? Id be willing to bet it's faulty, but you could always try reformatting it to see if that works or helps.

If you paid $10 for a "125gb" card then that card is fake. Its probably a 16gb card made to look like 128. Try copying 125gb to it and see if can hold

It is almost certainly a fake with only 4-16 GB or so of actual memory, but which self-misrepresents as 128 GB and never returns any error writing (even if it is not writing anything at all).
Copy about 16 GB of actual (lerge) files on it and then compare by content the original files and the copy. Then remember that saying - if it looks too good to be true then probably something is wrong.
definitely fake one. $10 for 125g(??), too good to be true.

I want to change my 256GB MicroSD card to a 400GB one but my supplier says it won't work in the M5.
I don't think there is a reason why it shouldn't but has anyone tried a 400GB and can confirm it's working?
works fine in mine. i have never had an issue putting in a larger sd card no matter that the manufacturer said was compatible
It works..but without root it's totally unnecessary cause huawei doesn't allow "app2sd"

i do have mine rooted. I never bother to move apps to the sd card. I do however keep a 100gb of music, tons of video, and like to keep twrp backups for a long time. So it is easy to run out space on a 256gb card.

Why is that?

All my tablets and phones are rooted, so I can't say 100%. ...but at least 99% sure it won't make a difference.
Usually vendors are listening supported sd cards available at the moment of the device release. Over the years, I'm using high capacity sd cards in many devices which are not supporting them officially. Never had an issue. Only couple of times had to format it in the device itself.

I would say (maybe not completely correct) that microsd is describing physical format, sdxc or similar technical specifications, like speed. Sdxc should work. I can check later which type I have.

Anyone tried a 512GB micro SD card yet?

So I'm wondering if anyone has tried. I have a 256GB card already that works fine but I'm running out of space (Yes I'm carrying quite a lot of music with me and yes I do see it as a good thing) my music collection is bigger than 256GB and would like to carry more so that's why I asking.
I know the max is 256GB but I don't know if that's down to hardware (and card slot) or what
No one?
From my knowledge it's only up to 256, so if you get a 512, it may not work. Sorry haven't tried it yet, but as per the spec of poco it's only up to 256. I had a different phone before, a galaxy a8 2018 which suppprted up to 256 as well and when i tried my friend's 512gb it didn't recognize it, so most likely same will happen with the poco

I would also have like to use a 512GB card. Does anyone know why this limitation exists? Is it a hardware constraint with the card reader, or a firmware or O/S constraint? I naively thought that SDXC compatibility would allow anything up to 2TB, but it's clearly not as simple as that.

you can use a 512gb sd card, but as soon you reach the 256gb full, files will get damaged and sd will fail to be recognized by the phone...

That was definitely not my experience with other phones. Usually cards with higher than phone rated capacity work just fine.
From my understanding when phone manufacturers say up to 256 gb SD card supported they are saying that cause at that point of time that's the highest SD card available in the market. Most phones that can support 256gb will support higher capacities too.

The Pocophone F1 was released long after 400GB SD cards appeared on the market, yet they only state support for 256GB??

Interesting video - thanks. So in theory a FAT32-formatted 512Gb SD card should be supported by any phone that supports FAT32 and SDXC? It's a shame there isn't a more recent video which tries 512GB cards in current smartphones.
In older days, when external storage limited size was 32Gb some Motorola's users (including me with Rokr Z6) used to divide 64Gb as two 32Gb mountable partitions.
You can try it too.

i used to do that sometimes too, and even use sdcard as internal memory with some apps and hacks...

lucky you, or maybe i was using cheap cards on cheap phones ?
I have a 512Gb Huawei memory card on my Poco F1 working fine, I haven't reached the 256Gb capacity because I've just received today. But so far so good ?
Lexar 512GB 633x (black / blue) from Aliexpress is working fine. At the moment 217GB is filled on the card.

Sir,
Sir,
I don't know if you have found an answer to your question as of yet but I have. I've purchased several different 512gb cards knowing that I had some use for them somewhere. The fact is that the Poco F1 does see 512 gigabytes... And then down the rabbit hole we go. After about 20 to 30 minutes of you installing the card and moving over all kinds of information, the Poco F1 begins to forget things. That's the only way I know how to put it. all the sudden some of the stuff that you have moved over to the card is not reachable even though you still see some of the shortcuts or some of the things that point to it depending on what program you're using and the next thing you know after about an hour and a half two hours it also can't find those either and then some of the program start to crash. These are not programs that I have you some third-party where to move over to the card at all. I didn't move over any software to the card I'm just talkin about moving over some of the things that it was to the card. and then you'll notice after a few more hours that the card is unreadable. The way that you can fix this is to go ahead and put it into any computer and I used a program called mini it's a freeware program to recover the lost partition. then I put it right back in the phone and at first the phone fights with and everything else but you can get it to look at it and see it again only to repeat the exact same problem over and over and over again. The problem seems to be exacerbated if you were to use a torrent program to save data to the driver's if it was a download folder from multiple sources at once. I tried everything I could. I even tempted fate a little bit by saying if I could use aparted the cell phone version in order to partition the drive into two different types of partitions one of them course being the f2fs partition I was trying to see if I could successfully divide the memory card into two partitions so that the computer or cell phone would see them as two separate entities does relieving the problem of it seeing larger than 256. this was not successful though I cannot promise that I did everything correctly. I would greatly appreciate any information you happen to have about this. I have several of these 512gb cards and some of which I saved a lot of money on some of which I spend a lot of money on but they all seem to operate the exact same with the exact same problem. if you had any suggestions on how to add that to a Asus tablet that I'm now having the exact same problem with and much lower micro SD card total capacity sizes than the Poco F1 s I would greatly appreciate that too. The Asus laptop that I'm dealing with is an Asus e203m and it comes with 32GB of real special fast memory that uses hard drive and so you can see we're picking this up for almost nothing is a great deal provided that you're a little tech-savvy can work with clouds quite a bit and hopefully find the solution to the problem and adding a 500 gigabyte micro SD card. The problem is that you can't partition those the way that you'd like or you think that you could. but for me I really love computers and love to turn branches on the weekend so to speak. I'd also love to learn anyting you might be willing to share about partitioning and the like.I know that windows will only see the first partition of a microSD card. but then who wants to be limited to just Windows anyway.

I have Samsung Evo Select 512 gigs and been using it since 6 months.
I have it full almost 90-95%+ full everytime as i load a lot of movies in it. During the time of writing it was 97% full.
It is formatted to exfat and is working perfectly.
There is no data loss or anything like that after 256 gigs.
I hope this answers all your questions.
If you have any more questions just let me know.
