I know this was posted in other phone forums, but I decided to throw it out to all the Incredible 4g users specifically...can anyone tell me exactly how the LED is supposed to function? I know where and how to set up exactly when it's supposed to turn on, but how long does it blink? I sometimes think its not working, but now I think that it blinks for awhile and then stops...then starts up again, seemingly at random...and what causes it to stop blinking? On swiping the notification? On opening the notification? Just unlocking your phone and seeing the notification? I've done some tests, but not exhaustive yet...wondering how it's SUPPOSED to work.

the notification light should blink until you unlock you phone.. once coming out of sleep you will see the notification , whether on the lock screen, the lock screen bubble shortcut, the status bar notification pull down, just as soon as u turn that screen on and come out of sleep, the LED will STOP blinking since it see you have seen the notification since you awoke the phone.
I hope this helps.
there is a chance that the blinking light does stop after awhile, like say 15 min, i cant say for this phone yet, but will post back once find out..
but IMO i don't think it would stop until you awake the phone.

my trackball light keeps turning on and off, even in standby mode... is there a way to turn it off? or is this normal with the phone?
Hi,
The flashing trackball means you've had a message, email or a missed call. You get a little icon in the top left of your screen with a red squiggle on it. When you've turned your phone on, put your finger at the top of the screen and sweep downwards and your notification screen will appear. This should tell you what event, message or call you've missed, or is waiting for you.
Hope this helps. It is a bit confusing at first.
Sometimes, even after I've completed reading all my unread texts/checked missed calls list, the trackball remains flashing for a period of time (like say 10 minutes) and then stops flashing.
Only way to stop it it so bring down the notifications panel and hit 'clear notifications'.
Its a bug.
my mate with an orange one had this, but it turns out he had set up the MAIL application (NOT Gmail) for his hotmail and turned notifications off, so it flashed, but no top bar notification or sound was played.....

I would actually love the option to have the trackball light to pulse indefinitely until notifications are cleared. I reckon its damned sexy!
Just a shame it can't do multi-coloured light :<
Mine will keep blinking until i take down the notifications panel, even tough its clear and i.e message is read. But it "cures" the blinking instantly.
Mine is doing the same thing, blinking for roughly 10mins but dissapears if open and close notifications even if blank.
Is this a bug only in the Orange rom ?
thats where this phone sucks, the led. it keeps flashing if there's no notifications, and Google Talk keeps it flashing m the time.. bc if you're in a chat and get a message, it starts blinking and then won't stop ever. but there's no option to shut it off. anyone have any idea if there's a way?
Sent from my 4G LTE HTC Rezound
It appears all you can do is disable the notifications all together...
Same thing kept happening to me, drove me nuts. Give the status bar a quick swipe down. Once I did that, the light quit blinking immediately.
doesn't do it for me lol the only way to stop it is make a call
I cant figure out why my phone keeps blinking its notification light. Any one have an idea why?
Most likely a rogue app acting up.
ok thanks for the response
If I may add to this topic without creating a new one, how come my blinking light for notifications will stop after about a minute or so? I recieved some texts but didn't know it until I manually turned my screen on. So I sent myself an email, and it blinked for a minute or so, then stopped. Is this normal?
i actually think that is suppose to happen. Ever htc phone i have had has a certain duration of the notification light blinking and then it will turn off. the only phone i have ever had it go on until i checked the notification is my old droid. i was apply to on the galaxy nexus, but had to use an app to make it work. Light flow is the app

It's actually 5 minutes I think, at least on my phone it is. It is my biggest complaint with Sense and why I switched to cyanogenmod on my evo shift. It would be the one reason I would switch to the GS3 if I had to think of a reason since there are nice solutions that use an amoled screen for notifications that will not time out like that. (an app called noLed, doesn't work well unless you use amoled))
Anyway, it must be coded real deep because I've never seen a dev fix it or even hardly mention it and people have complained about it for years.
It really makes the notification light kind of worthless.
There are some apps like light flow that in theory can fix it but lightflow doesn't work for me when my sound is turned on with this phone so it's worthless right now. Missed reminder might be able to help as well but I haven't had a chance to try it.
Unrelated, but does anyone know how to disable the bright green light when battery is charged? lol
Hi All,
I noticed that after not touching my phone for awhile (say an hour), any LED notifications for things such as email or missed texts don't light up the green notification light on my phone. It works great if my phone was somewhat used within say the last 30 minutes, but once I wake up in the morning and unlock my phone, I see my missed texts and at that time it lights up the green LED. I have all my LED notification settings set to on. Am I missing something? I hope this is not normal, otherwise what's the point with an LED light?
Well first thing...the device actually only will show a notification for 5 min w/ the blinking light. Then it just stops until the next one comes in.
You also could be experiencing the wifi data bug I am seeing...the one where you basically lose your connection to wifi just by being connected. It doesn't tell you that you have no data connection, it just randomly drops off.
Wow. Only 5 minutes? Is that normal for Android phones or is that an Sense thing? I've had other Android phones before in the past, but with no notification light.
Just got 5.0 yesterday and immediately became frustrated with what appears to be a step backwards.
When my phone is sitting idle and the screen is off, I used to see just a blinking LED letting me know that I have a text or an email or voicemail waiting.
After this update, I still got the green LED blinking, but when I "woke" the phone up (pressing the power button to light up the lock screen) there was a list of notifications with brief descriptions of what was in the waiting notification.
I purposely shut that off before since I don't like just anyone waking up my phone and seeing my waiting texts messages.
Easy enough, I thought. I just went to the lock screen notification setting and switched the "when device is locked" setting from "show all notification content" to "Don't show notifications at all".
Problem with this is that kills ALL notifications, including the blinking LED!
I liked being able to wake up the phone, swipe down, and see if it's a text or an email waiting by looking at the top bar. Then I could decide whether or not to unlock the phone and check further.
Seems there should be more options than the "all or nothing" approach here.
First day, I know, but I wanted to get this out there for others to find, if there is a solution.
Thanks!
