Just got 5.0 yesterday and immediately became frustrated with what appears to be a step backwards.
When my phone is sitting idle and the screen is off, I used to see just a blinking LED letting me know that I have a text or an email or voicemail waiting.
After this update, I still got the green LED blinking, but when I "woke" the phone up (pressing the power button to light up the lock screen) there was a list of notifications with brief descriptions of what was in the waiting notification.
I purposely shut that off before since I don't like just anyone waking up my phone and seeing my waiting texts messages.
Easy enough, I thought. I just went to the lock screen notification setting and switched the "when device is locked" setting from "show all notification content" to "Don't show notifications at all".
Problem with this is that kills ALL notifications, including the blinking LED!
I liked being able to wake up the phone, swipe down, and see if it's a text or an email waiting by looking at the top bar. Then I could decide whether or not to unlock the phone and check further.
Seems there should be more options than the "all or nothing" approach here.
First day, I know, but I wanted to get this out there for others to find, if there is a solution.
Thanks!

my trackball light keeps turning on and off, even in standby mode... is there a way to turn it off? or is this normal with the phone?
Hi,
The flashing trackball means you've had a message, email or a missed call. You get a little icon in the top left of your screen with a red squiggle on it. When you've turned your phone on, put your finger at the top of the screen and sweep downwards and your notification screen will appear. This should tell you what event, message or call you've missed, or is waiting for you.
Hope this helps. It is a bit confusing at first.
Sometimes, even after I've completed reading all my unread texts/checked missed calls list, the trackball remains flashing for a period of time (like say 10 minutes) and then stops flashing.
Only way to stop it it so bring down the notifications panel and hit 'clear notifications'.
Its a bug.
my mate with an orange one had this, but it turns out he had set up the MAIL application (NOT Gmail) for his hotmail and turned notifications off, so it flashed, but no top bar notification or sound was played.....

I would actually love the option to have the trackball light to pulse indefinitely until notifications are cleared. I reckon its damned sexy!
Just a shame it can't do multi-coloured light :<
Mine will keep blinking until i take down the notifications panel, even tough its clear and i.e message is read. But it "cures" the blinking instantly.
Mine is doing the same thing, blinking for roughly 10mins but dissapears if open and close notifications even if blank.
Is this a bug only in the Orange rom ?
I think we've agreed that the screen is the biggest battery draw on this phone.
I am on the stock ROM, and my screen lights up whenever anything happens on the phone. Any notifications light the screen up. Email/text/etc screen comes on to display the notification in addition to the sound.
Is there a way to keep the sound, and notification in the status bar, but keep the screen from lighting up?
I get a ton of emails M-F not to mention text messages and I don't need the screen firing up every time I get one. Hearing it is good, but I'm sure I'd save battery with the screen forced to stay off. Incremental savings? Maybe. But every little bit, right?

I just discovered this when I flashed Unofficial. It has settings to disable the screen coming on when a text message arrives - at least it's a start, particularly if you get a lot of texts.

Is that setting not in the stock ROM?
How do you get to it in yours?
I know this was posted in other phone forums, but I decided to throw it out to all the Incredible 4g users specifically...can anyone tell me exactly how the LED is supposed to function? I know where and how to set up exactly when it's supposed to turn on, but how long does it blink? I sometimes think its not working, but now I think that it blinks for awhile and then stops...then starts up again, seemingly at random...and what causes it to stop blinking? On swiping the notification? On opening the notification? Just unlocking your phone and seeing the notification? I've done some tests, but not exhaustive yet...wondering how it's SUPPOSED to work.

the notification light should blink until you unlock you phone.. once coming out of sleep you will see the notification , whether on the lock screen, the lock screen bubble shortcut, the status bar notification pull down, just as soon as u turn that screen on and come out of sleep, the LED will STOP blinking since it see you have seen the notification since you awoke the phone.
I hope this helps.
there is a chance that the blinking light does stop after awhile, like say 15 min, i cant say for this phone yet, but will post back once find out..
but IMO i don't think it would stop until you awake the phone.
When I receive text message, the phone but nothing shows up the screen.
Then when I turn the screen on, then I am able to see the message.
Is this normal or is there some setting that I screwed up with>

Check the settings in your text messaging app. Some of them give you options for what happens when you get an incoming message. Some don't give a heads up notification if the screen is off.
If you have not made any changes whatsoever and your phone is just fresh out the box I would say that that's a problem and would return the phone 4 Exchange
Do you want the screen to turn on when you get a text message? There is a setting called ambient display that will turn your screen on when you get a message. If that setting isn't activated your phone will vibrate or make your notification sound and blink the led but will not activate the screen.
I have an S6 Edge, model SCV31, currently running android 7 (updated last night).
Due to my work, I've been in the habit of always having my phone in silent/vibration mode. This has been the case, with this same phone, for around two years. Maybe two or three days ago there was a notification on my lock screen telling me that my phone was on silent and that I may miss calls. I was given the option to take my phone off silent, or say "it is okay". I have never had this notification before. Normally if I receive a notification I don't care for, I long press on it and turn off notifications for whatever is causing it. I could not long press on the notification, and touching the screen to unlock my phone caused the notification to disappear. This was while running android 6. Around the same time these notifications started I was emailed by my service provider that I would soon be able to download android 7. I received the notification a few times before updating, both while charging and not. I was hoping the update would reset/fix whatever triggering the notification, but have still been receiving it since.
I have not been able to force the notification to reappear. I have tried turning on sounds and turning them off again, restarting my phone, and leaving my phone charging for a few minutes (I initially noticed it while charging) to no avail. Until now, I haven't thought of taking a screen shot, but if necessary I will try to remember when next it occurs.
Does anyone know what is causing this notification and how to turn it off?
Thank you in advance,
JB
