I tried android commander and followed the directions, my computer didn't detect the phone. Any other program I could use?
Verify your drivers and make sure you have debugging enabled under development options.

Hello,
I just got my first Android phone, the Atrix 4g. So I'm relatively new to Rooting although I have jailbroken my iPod and my iPhone but I know jailbreaking is much easier and simple. My problem is that when I try to start GingerBreak.exe, nothing happens. I've installed all the drivers, set the USB Connection to "None", and turned on Debugging. I don't know what I'm doing wrong but when I start GingerBreak.exe, I suppose it appears on your phone but nothing appears or opens on my phone nor computer.
Can anyone help me? Anything is appreciated!
Thanks!
Edit: BTW, I have an external MicroSD card mounted as well.
Get adb and type adb devices in command prompt

Blehh, as I've said, I'm new so can you please tell me what adb is and where to get it?
And how would I use it?
Download adb from superoneclick. Using command prompt navigate to the directory. Then type adb devices.

Fixed guys.
It couldn't detect the phone because I needed to download the MotoHelper drivers from the Motorola websites, the x64 drivers downloaded from the guide didn't contain the Motorola ADB Interface driver.

Hi Friends,
I am new to Android Development, so i created a simple app in Eclipse using ADT (On Ubuntu), now i want to deploy it on my Samsung Galaxy Note (ICS 4.03)
I have created the app using the correct api version (15), however i am unable to see my connected phone as a target to run my app on.
Upon further investigation i ran lsusb to check if my android has been detected, however i cant see the phone anywhere in the list.
I have set the USB Debugging Option.
My Question is, how do i detect if my android phone has been detected by Ubuntu, i can see that the phone is charging but how do i check if the mobile is ready to receive data in the form of apk's for deploying the app ?
Thanks,
Abhishek
You will need to make sure you have adb set up correctly

While messing with adb is not really needed, trying to understand the command line made me realise, i can just build to my dropbox folder and install the apk when it shows up in my dropbox on the phone.

While not needed its very useful for debugging but yes you could do it that way
back to win from osx, and I have a quick question
Are there drivers I need to install on my win 7sp1 machine, so that when I plug my phone into my computer, my phone will show up as a device, and allow me to browse the files on my internal and external cards?
On my osx, I never had to install drivers, and, if memory serves me correct, there are drivers you need on a win 7 machine, in order to browse the phone, and to transfer stuff via USB..
thanks, and let the ball busting begin!
Yes there are USB drivers for windows 7. They can be downloaded from the stickied thread on rooting. Unix and Linux require very few if any third party drivers. Just one more aspect of Unix that Apple takes credit for.

one question; do you have to be on a touchwiz rom for the mtp driver to initialize?
I downloaded a driver, installed it, and it didnt find the device properly; I tried a different cable, it found the device, started to auto download a driver, started to install it, then got the red X, saying MTP driver did not initialize..
I am using an AOSP rom, and I dont think MTP is included in them...
thanks again!
For stock Touch Wiz you DON'T need to install any drivers yourself on windows 7 for the MTP to function. Those drivers are built in to windows 7 and will install when you plug your phone in and you have it set to function as an MTP device. I would bet that vista and XP are the same. Now drivers are needed for other functions but not for the transferring of files by USB.
If you are having issues then either your drivers on your pc are corrupt or your ROM does not support MTP the way that the stock ROM does.
Thanks; turns out all I had to do was download Samsung Kies, and that installed what it needed to make it work perfectly!
What is the best way to transfer rom files to the phone? I didnt see a way to do it with the sync program. Is there some additional software i could use in windows? I've been using android commander to push files over via adb.
I am using total commander. It can push everything to the phones memory.

Sent from my Micromax A27 using xda app-developers app
Try this things
Have you enabled USB - Debugging? (Menu > Setting > Application > Development > USB debugging > Turn it ON).
Probably afterwards you can install a driver.
For rooting use the Eroot application
xperiahtcrootingrom.com/how-to-root-videocon-a15-with-eroot-software/
Here is the app.
mediafire.com/download/62wi36ph36563oj/Eroot-v-1.3.5.zip
For rooting you don’t need pc just use framaroot look into this thread(given below) and download any one ver of framaroot .apk:

Please follow this simple steps on your win 7 pc to connect your videocon a15 device successfully
STEP 1: Copying the ZIP package
1. Copy the ZIP package to the your pc (LINK GIVEN BELOW)
2. Extract the zip package to an easy place to find
location such as the desktop
STEP 2: Verifying the unidentified
Android device
1. Open the Start Menu and click run
2. Type "devmgmt.msc" to open Device
Manager
3. Look for the unidentified Android device
(usually indicated by a yellow exclamation
mark)
STEP 3: Install/Update USB driver
1. Right-click the device and select "Update
Driver..."
2. Select "Browse my computer for driver
software"
3. Select "Let me pick from a list of device
drivers..."
4. Search for "Android Composite ADB
Interface"
5. Click "Have Disk..." and search for the INF
file (android_winusb.inf) located in the
folder you copied earlier
6. Click Next to install the USB driver
That's it!
The phone should now appear in Device Manager
as an Android ADB device.
You should now be able to initiate a remote USB
connection to the device.

One more question Sir, can you tell me a software which can Install any mobile usb driver?
As there are no similar usb drivers for all phones you have to install specific driver for specific phones only...! And yet i have not found any software for pc to install usb drivers for smartphones
So i have already given you the google driver package which will work on most devices (Given above)
If the above steps don’t work then you can try this,
download and install it on your pc
