What is the best way to transfer rom files to the phone? I didnt see a way to do it with the sync program. Is there some additional software i could use in windows? I've been using android commander to push files over via adb.
I am using total commander. It can push everything to the phones memory.

I´m new to this Mtp thing. I had a HOX until now and that was a breeze there.
So how is everybody copying files (non-media files) to sd-card pr ext-sd-card?
thx, nearly
Bro I just plugged my phone into my PC and my PC download the drivers needed.. recognized phone and bam. Go into computer and find your device. If you double click on it it should bring up your SD card.. From there I just drag and drop files.

Just like a USB stick. I connect to PC and it pops up. Maybe because I.have development option ticked but don't think it's that. Just download the latest version of kies for the drivers.

Really sucks...
Can't use the phone while transferring large files
What about connecting the phone to a PS3, does that work?
i cant remember the last time i connected a phone to a computer for file transfers.
get samba share from the market or use es file explorer to transfer files to network shares on the pc.
LOL WIRES.
MTP/Kies really suck. My main pc is running Linux so that's a no-go with MTP. I installed Kies on my work pc as it runs Win 7. All SGS 3 drivers are installed as well. For the first few days it was working but now the phone isn't recognised anymore. Either the phone does not show at all on the pc, or it shows but the internal and external SD cards are not showing.
Saw on Samsung's website that there's a Kies version for Mac available so I installed that on my wife's macbook pro. When plugging the phone in the "connecting" message keeps running but the phone never connects. I thought it was because I'm not using the original USB cable, but using that won't work either.
So looking forward to a custom rom that has USB mass storage included. Until then I'm using the WiFi File Transfer Pro and/or Samba Sharing apps.
You can also install Kies Air from the play store on your phone. You won't have to install anything on your PC.
Just make sure you are on the same network as your PC and run the app.
It will start a server and the URL will be displayed on your device.
Enter this URL in your browser on the PC and you are ready to go

You're better off using airdroid if it's just a couple of files

How can I copy file to /data directory?
I use Cyberduck on my Mac to connect to the SGS III by SSH, I have an app called SSHDroidPro on my phone. So easy to use. I can browse the entire filesystem of the phone wirelessly and file transfer is pretty fast and totally painless. MUCH better than Kies Air IMO.

Only with Windows 7 in my case, wouldn't work with XP
I tried android commander and followed the directions, my computer didn't detect the phone. Any other program I could use?
Verify your drivers and make sure you have debugging enabled under development options.
samba file sharing?

Hi Friends,
I am new to Android Development, so i created a simple app in Eclipse using ADT (On Ubuntu), now i want to deploy it on my Samsung Galaxy Note (ICS 4.03)
I have created the app using the correct api version (15), however i am unable to see my connected phone as a target to run my app on.
Upon further investigation i ran lsusb to check if my android has been detected, however i cant see the phone anywhere in the list.
I have set the USB Debugging Option.
My Question is, how do i detect if my android phone has been detected by Ubuntu, i can see that the phone is charging but how do i check if the mobile is ready to receive data in the form of apk's for deploying the app ?
Thanks,
Abhishek
You will need to make sure you have adb set up correctly

While messing with adb is not really needed, trying to understand the command line made me realise, i can just build to my dropbox folder and install the apk when it shows up in my dropbox on the phone.

I have tried installing kies so i can transfer files this way (pictures/videoe etc) but the computer dose not seem to see the phone?

sorry can you explain more what you mean by this?
i am using windows vista on my computer, are you saying there is another way of detecting my phone when it is connected to the computer via the usb?
when i click on 'start' then 'my computer' i can see the drives on the computer etc but no phone attatched where i would normally see it.
Then that usually means you have no USB drivers installed for the phone .
jje
Try reinstall usb driver for vista version.
Jellybean is still under beta. Bugs are inevitable.

Dear all,
I had been using an old HTC Glacier with Android 2.3 until last week and just the I've got a new S5. Android 4.4 is very new to me, so I am sorry for the newbie questions.
It's my understanding that Google changed permissions so that apps cannot access the external card. Can rooted devices and/or custom ROMs allows that? (I plan to install the Project Infiity ROM soon.)
With my old phone (using CM 7) I could connect it via USB and have it recognized as a Mass Storage Device. Do custom ROMs allow that still?
Thanks!
Luis
#1. you can use foldermount app to link internal sd's folders with external card
#2. since 4.3 USB mass storage have been removed in favor of MTP. I have not seen any new custom ROM with usb mass storage. However you can still browse your internal and external sd when you hook your phone to a computer, just know that MTP has piss poor speed.

MTP is where your device shows up as a "media player" or camera and is not assigned a drive letter. You can still access your files, but is much more restricted to where you can only copy, paste and delete. In order to modify or even rename you must copy them first, then do your modifications and then push them back. They did it this way to better protect the Android filesystem.
Now, with your S5 it is still possible to mount as mass storage. You will need root. If you have root, get terminal emulator and enter in su (to get su privileges) and then type "setprop persist.sys.usb.config mass_storage". DOING THIS DOES THE JOB BUT CAN POTENTIALLY MESS UP YOUR DEVICE. DO NOT USE THIS METHOD WITH MAC DEVICES. ONLY WINDOWS/LINUX. Windows XP recommended. Hope this helps!

Because MTP hosts a virtual filesystem, where the internal sd is secured and protected from the computer, whereas mass storage is a direct.

Have you tried this last "hack" with the GS5? That sounds great, although your remarks scare me a bit. (I'm virtually always on Linux, though, and own no Mac.)
Thanks again!

I have not tried this with an S5 but I can confirm that this works with some S3's and S4's (doesn't work on Verizon/Sprint versions, got it to work once on at&t, however it would be logical to assume it's processor dependant as these devices come in multiple processor variants; my guess is it doesn't work on ARM and does on Exynos.)
Idk, it's worth a try, you will only mess up your device if you don't "safely remove hardware" during write.
