i have installed the stock jellybean rom from here but since doing so i have noticed that when i connect my phone to the computer via usb cable my computer does not bring up the 'autoplay' options allowing me to access the phones storage and be able to drag and drop files to the phone etc.
I have tried installing kies so i can transfer files this way (pictures/videoe etc) but the computer dose not seem to see the phone?

sorry can you explain more what you mean by this?
i am using windows vista on my computer, are you saying there is another way of detecting my phone when it is connected to the computer via the usb?
when i click on 'start' then 'my computer' i can see the drives on the computer etc but no phone attatched where i would normally see it.
Then that usually means you have no USB drivers installed for the phone .
jje
Try reinstall usb driver for vista version.
Jellybean is still under beta. Bugs are inevitable.

On this one i think i installed all them the issue here is that when i plug my phone it let me know that new hardware has been found then it starts with the installation some will install but i think there is one or two the just sit searching but nothing happens and then i try to closed out but it freezes up on me and when i turn off debugging then it closes out but if i try to install them with debugging off nothing comes up.
another thing i used my phone with acomputer runnig windows 7 and it worked so im guessing its a prblem with xp
I think pdanet has the drivers when you install it if you don't know how to manually add them.

I don't know if this will work for you, but it worked for me...
When you plug your phone in via a usb cable, you will see a Verizon Mobile drive pop up on under "My Computer"
If you open it, there is a folder in there called DRV. There is a file called something like WM_driver installer. I installed that.
Then I go to my phone chose to connect as a disk drive (I have mine set to charge only by default).
Then I click on my removable disk and I can see my phone's data then.

Not that I'm aware of. Try getting in touch with Samsung and asking them. The only other alternative is to do a before and after snapshot of your registry and see what gets installed when you install the drivers using Kies.
USB drivers application in the Kies program folder in win 7 just copy it .

Just like a USB stick. I connect to PC and it pops up. Maybe because I.have development option ticked but don't think it's that. Just download the latest version of kies for the drivers.

Really sucks...
Can't use the phone while transferring large files
What about connecting the phone to a PS3, does that work?
i cant remember the last time i connected a phone to a computer for file transfers.
get samba share from the market or use es file explorer to transfer files to network shares on the pc.
LOL WIRES.
MTP/Kies really suck. My main pc is running Linux so that's a no-go with MTP. I installed Kies on my work pc as it runs Win 7. All SGS 3 drivers are installed as well. For the first few days it was working but now the phone isn't recognised anymore. Either the phone does not show at all on the pc, or it shows but the internal and external SD cards are not showing.
Saw on Samsung's website that there's a Kies version for Mac available so I installed that on my wife's macbook pro. When plugging the phone in the "connecting" message keeps running but the phone never connects. I thought it was because I'm not using the original USB cable, but using that won't work either.
So looking forward to a custom rom that has USB mass storage included. Until then I'm using the WiFi File Transfer Pro and/or Samba Sharing apps.
You can also install Kies Air from the play store on your phone. You won't have to install anything on your PC.
Just make sure you are on the same network as your PC and run the app.
It will start a server and the URL will be displayed on your device.
Enter this URL in your browser on the PC and you are ready to go

How can I copy file to /data directory?
I use Cyberduck on my Mac to connect to the SGS III by SSH, I have an app called SSHDroidPro on my phone. So easy to use. I can browse the entire filesystem of the phone wirelessly and file transfer is pretty fast and totally painless. MUCH better than Kies Air IMO.

Only with Windows 7 in my case, wouldn't work with XP
I have installed Samsung USB Drivers manually and also tried Kies to install the newest drivers, but my Samsung Galaxy S3 still isn't recognized by my computer. What can I do?
EDIT: It only works sometimes, so when I plug it out and in like 10 times, maybe I'm lucky and it will connect once.

I have the same problem. My VSGS3 works with my W8 laptop but not my W7 desktop (at all). The only thing I can assume that it would be is MTP issues with Truecrypt (my desktop is encrypted). I cannot get it to work at all.
take a look at this thread...

Really???? S3 Not Recognized?
Maybe I missed something in this thread but is this really the case??? The S3 cannot be recognized as a USB storage device by Windows? I accidentally left my SD card out and now have videos I need to transfer to PC, but cannot via email or any other means I can find. Anybody have a solution? I have installed the Samsung drivers but still not recognized . . . HELP!!!

You can use MTP mode to copy the files to the computer.
The device will appear with a phone-logo in 'My Computer'
Just plug Samsung USB cable into USB port on a PC with the Samsung USB drivers installed and cut and paste as many GB as you want .SD Phone or EXT SD card via Windows Explorer as normal .

This problem is quite depressing Has a restore fixed it for anyone?
I use mac OSX and after searching for a month or so, I couldnt find a solution to connect via USB. So now I use 'Air Droid' app from Play Store. Its pretty good and simple!! Plus, you can do alot more stuff like send or read SMS from PC.. Dont need to connect via USB anymore
I found that installing that rootkit installed the drivers to connect via USB - didnt root it just installed it for the drivers. THANKS!
I am having the same problem.

If you are using x64 Windows 7 this will EXE file can be found here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Samsung\Kies\USB Driver\SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones.exe
back this up and then you can remove KIES. This is all you need to have your phone connected without ever really needing KIES.
Or you can use the driver provided by the TOOLKIT that MSKIP has designed (thanks - love it).
Cheers,
try disabling usb debugging

I am having problems using Galaxy S3 i9300 4.1.1 with Windows 8 RTM x64.
I have installed Kies latest (2.5.0.12094_28). And i can see device is connected and i can even take backups. But when i am trying to send mp3 files it is giving an error "File Transfer from PC to 'GT-I9300' has been interrupted"
Also when the device is connected to PC via USB, i can see the contents in Windows Explorer but if i try to delete something, or upload a document there it says i dont have permisson.
With the same phone and PC, in Windows7 or XP there is no problem.
I have tried severel options like, "USB Debugging Mode", reinstall drivers, remove ghost drivers etc.
It just never worked for Windows8.
Any ideas or solutions?
I can tell you only: get used to it...nobody likes windows 8 and most likely even big companies will most likely slack doing drivers, even those who doesnt will yake their yime to make win8 drivers-dont get me wrong, i love win8, im running it since consumer preview

I mess about with stuff saved on my microSD card and phone very regularly with both my Windows 8 notebook (Release Preview) and tablet (RTM), connected by USB. My notebook has the Kies software installed, whereas the tablet doesn't. I don't have the problems you speak of.
On my notebook's Device Manager, with my phone plugged in, I have a category 'SAMSUNG Android Phone' with 'SAMSUNG Android ADB Interface' beneath it. Do you have that? My version of the driver is 2.9.503.726, dated 27/07/2012. On a side note, I also have the category 'Modems' with 'SAMSUNG Mobile USB Modem' beneath it.
Have you tried uninstalling the drivers, and letting Windows install suitable drivers for you?
