Best offline GPS app? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm looking for any recommendations for GPS apps that I can use with no internet connection. Preferably an app that would download the maps locally.
I'm currently using Sygic and I really like it but am curious if anyone has any other suggestions?
Thanks!

The new version of Google Maps has offline support though only for a small area not a whole country yet but if you're not travelling too far at a time you could download each area as you need it.

How could any offline GPS beat sygic besides for price? It almost gives the same features and experience as 'proper' gps units like Tomtom etc.
Plus using sygic on my xoom gave me a better experience using GPS than the TomTom units I have (due to using it on a 10" screen though)

Locus Pro is the best offline GPS App

Sygic is the best that I have found, although the routing can be a little flaky at times. I must say it has improved a great deal in the 2 years I've had it.

Navigon is the best in my opinion, but Sygic is also very good.

Sygic and Navigon both okay, Sygic speed limits way out of date in my area.

I recently purchased Sygic. It seems great, but I have one rather big complaint. Not sure if it's because I am from South Africa. But I can't seem to get the app to navigate to a specific address, eg 149 Field Street. It seems to only be able to take me to Field street and I don't have the option to choose a specific number. Something easily achieved in google maps, and Nokia Ovi Maps.
As you can understand navigating to a street is quite bad especially if it is a big street. Is this the best the app can navigate or is it because I am from South Africa? I've downloaded the local SA maps etc etc.

Definitely a regional problem with the map data. Works fine here.

I have the same screens as what you show, and if I type a number, it also shows only the "Any (start -> end)" field but when I press done, it accepts the number I set (it'd say "Any(149)" in your case I guess and direct you to that number).

I think Copilot is pretty good. It does depend on your region in terms of what maps are available and what works.

Happy with CoPilot here, all of europe. Works well has its own speed cameras and also accepts PocketGPSWorld camera databases.

I like Waze. I use it fairly often. Routing is a little hit n miss sometimes though (although it's getting better) and the crowd sourced hazard/traffic info is an interesting touch.
I *think* you have to have a data connection for routing though so prob doesn't count as offline.

Thanks everyone for the replies! I tried all of the suggested apps and Sygic and Navigon were tops to me. I think Sygic wins out, but I wanted to try others of course.

+1 for Sygic. I dunno what Google was thinking for releasing an offline map function that can't do at least turn-by-turn.

Not free but NDrive works the best on my Xperia X10 Mini Pro.
Offline maps, turn-by-turn navigation.. All I could want with a nice UI.
TomTom...I am waiting for you soo loong, it's the best.
ndrive is best
In Polish - Naviexpert but its not free and works only in online mode

Google Navigation does not have turn-by-turn voice guidance..
For really simple GPS software i use rmaps with google offline maps. (to see where am i)
For navigation i use navigon ( not free)
I wanted Navigon but downloading maps was horribly slow so I tried NDrive and it looks great, it does everything I need (although I haven't tested it yet very much).

I use Copilot but can't find a decent (free) keyboard that will work, the stock keyboard is less than useless
Offline mapping I use osmand (open street map android). I have downloaded the maps using tangogps (linux app) onto sd card and then used on phone. (had to add .png.tile to the .png to use) You need to change settings to use the same map files and storage locations. The POI's work very well, banks, food, transport etc. nav is not really workable in Sydney (tries to fit 5 Million pop city onto mini too much data!)

Best Offline GPS Navigation App?

Hello guys, as the title says, I'm looking for a good and accurate offline gps navigator.. I live in Singapore..

I believe for europe the best is iGO.
Yes,it's the best for me.
Sygic, better than Google navigation and map
Igo,Sygic,Ndrive,Papago ---> can't tracking
Navitel ---> can do a tracking
One negative thing about Navitel is...we can't enter UTM coordinates (so we have to convert it first ) ----> I miss Garmin
question:
is iGo run with any lag ?
for me it's laggy a litle bit
I have lag too
Igo works without lag. MiniCm and 710 OC

I prefer CoPilot, definitely better than iGo, much more functions, and customizations, and the map from navteq is the best on the market for my country (Croatia), (i know iGo also have maps from navteq - but they are not identical), that's only my opinion...
I agree - CoPilot!
Sygic is the best i think. Fast, smart, and easy to set it. Btw its basic datas requires much free space.
i use IGO and it's very nice you can download maps by torrent ;0)
Navigon is the one for me. I've got the Europe mappack and it always lead me exactly to where I wanted to go ;-)

I did an extensive research on this, and there are only two apps that support qHD resolution properly.
1. Copilot
2. Sygic Aura
Unfortunately, both have crappy maps for my region (non-US). So, I use a 800x480 version of Motonav (iGo). It works but doesn't fill the entire screen.
It only fills the 800x480 part (duh! .. ) leaving the rest as black stripes on the sides.
Navigon works fine and fulls the whole screen. The only thibg i do not like about Navigon is the address input interface.

I have been using copilot for a year now. It is very nice and simple to work with.
I have been using NDrive, it only need that you go to spare parts and disable compatibility mode.

Anybody try out the New Downloadable Google Maps feature????

Im trying to figure out how to get it to work I downloaded the maps turned of my data and wifi...and tried to tyoe in an address but nothing it just kept searching for GPS is there something else I need to do?
google maps> menu button > make avaliable offline> select area > done
I think all the feature can do right now is download an area and keep the map so you can look at your surroundings. So basically it looks like its a paper map in digital form. The demo video Google put out seems to indicate this as well.

I have been using Songza on my iPhone 4 in the US but now it's not available in Google Play in my region even though it's a free app. Can anyone share the apk or point me to a site that allows me to download it? Thanks.

Use google for searching the APK, just search for "songza apk", the first one to appear is the apk4 .us site, donwload it and try to use it. If it says that you are outside the US, assuming you are rooted, just download Orbot, a Tor's Client. I live in Argentina and like many others, can't use Songza or Pandora, but this little app do the trick. Search it on the Play Store.
Once you launch it for the first time it ask you for rooted permissions, then it ask you for the apps that will go trhough Orbot, click the "Select Apps.." button, wait for the list of apps installed on your phone and then check Songza, go back and when it shows you the Large button press for 2 seconds, it begins to connect to the Tor network, once it goes Green.....ALELLUYA!!!!!
Luanch again Songza and there you go listening for your favorites tunes!!!!
Remember to go through the Options in Orbot for uncheck the "Start with the system" option.
By the way, with that little bastard of Orbot, you can make any app "shows" you on the US, like I said before, I live in Argentina, and besides Songza and Pandora, I use Last.fm, Hulu, Rdio, and so on...
Good luck!
