[Q] CM9 Request - Dell Venue

Has anyone placed a request for CM9 on their official site?
This mob does support a good hardware to run it.
If no is anyone planning to build one or request from CM?

I don't think any1 has or going to...y don't u post a request to cyanogenmod and see what happens
Sent from my Dell Venue using xda app-developers app

prasad12ka4, I think first we can post a request in Cyanogen's forum to see whether they consider our device. Many devices (e.g. HTC desire S) do not have such a good hardware as our Venue, but they still were supported.
I've post this request, please register a CyanogenMod forum account and vote for it here: http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/55842-cm9-for-dell-venue/
God bless Venue!

They have stopped CM9 dev for all devices thats what I heard last from them.
They are concentrating on CM10.
As for your question, like everywhere else our good old Venue is invisible for the world no one seems to get it.
Its the best ever!!!

There won't be official CM support for Dell Venue so I guess we should not nurture false hopes

May I request for CM10 update of this device?
I've been using the CM7 firmware and it's been a while explore more of its capabilities.
Thank you in advance.

i felt bad for this device. it has so many potential but due to lack of devs its going no where. i mean we are stuck at cm7 and miui but even my samsung galaxy mini a super cheap ph of onl 600mhz a armv6 runs jelly bean /cyanogen mod 10. this is possible coz of dedicated devs we got for that mobile. so for venue we need some dedicated dev and helping hand then its possible.:crying:

It's mainly that, we dont have any devs that are willing/able to work on the V long-term.
If you want CM support, donate a dozen or so V's to the CM teams and hope someone is willing to play with it. Otherwise you cant realistically port to a device you dont have access to.
Only reason the S5/S7/S10 have CM9 ports are because someone went though the trouble of porting the kernel for each respective device.

Other thing I think we could think about is porting CM9/10/7 to Venue ourselves (modifying the CM's sourcecode), and then submit changes to CM code repos. We will need approval, and have to maintain this device's code base thereafter. However if changes are OK then it can be considered an official support. I once heard "be the change you want to see in this world", this might be the best thing that can describe Venue's situation so far.
The problem is, exactly like what Manii has said, there are too few developers who is willing to work with this device for long term. There are very few devices on Amazon left also, as I checked!

Yes you are right but I think you first need an unofficial working rom first before you submit ur work to the official cm site. And they take years before accepting as official..for galaxy mini after tj style submit his work to cm team they accept it officially nearly after one years and more.
My point is that official or not I dont know but its true we have very less dev willing to work with this device so we need some joined contribution towards develppment from our side.

Thats just not gonna happen, as suggested, you can get a launcher to give it the look and feel, but forget anything else, we have barely just got gingerbread, and i don't see much more development after that.
Not so quick now....DJ_Steve just said today that he is waiting for the ICS source to be released to begin work on it for our beloved Streaks....

Maybe I'm lost, but please explain how this will help in trying to get a windows phone operating system on an Android phone..
Sent from my Dell Streak using Tapatalk
It was in response to your comment about barely getting Gingerbread. Regarding Win Mobile 7.x, there is no way to put it on the Streak as far as I know. Win Mobile 7 is as evil as iOS, in that Microsoft tells you what you want and you will like it.
Microsoft took an approach in between Apple and Google, their operating system is still closed source, but manufacturers can license it. They control the hardware it is on, like iOS, but they allow it on any phone that runs that hardware. We don't have the source, though, so it would be really hard (and I would imagine not worth it based on the response so far) to port it over to our hardware.

Moving to Q&A

Please consider a donation for a Galaxy ACE to Team-Blockbuster for development

Hey ACE-users,
Some of you contacted me and requested if i would like to develope for the Galaxy ACE and help you to solve some problems. Because of this and because of the fact that a friend of someone out of our Team bought one I started developing.
Problem is that we have not really a device we can use for developeing (we can´t use our friends every time ^^) and especially things like ICS Porting or Kernel developing needs one (we must test the files for working first).
So now BlockBuster Team would like to know if the user community here is interested in donating a device to us for development.
I mostly developed for the Galaxy S before, but also for Galaxy SLC (http://www.xda-developers.com/android/ics-ported-to-galaxy-s-i9003/) Galaxy 3... Mostly I´m developing by myself (kernel, scripts, tweaks, custom roms) but I teach other people who want to learn developing, too (like 5pace) . Check out my Threads, my Tutorials and our Homepage. I´m currently waiting for Galaxy S 3 release, so i´ve now the time for your device.
So what do the users of this community think? Let us know your opinion in this thread. If you want we can create a Paypal account and you can start to donate.
Maybe there´s someone here who doesn´t need his Galaxy ACE any longer - if it´s working it would be the easiest way for us to become one if you send it to us.

How to choose the right ROM to port to the Desire X

OK, since I'm still very new to things Android, but love to experiment ... I was thinking of trying my hand at porting a ROM to our phone.
BUT, how do you choose the right place to start ?
What device out there is closest to the Desire X, hardware wise, to use ? I've seen people here using the One V, but what about the Desire V for example ?
What things do I have to look for before picking a rom to port to the Desire X ?
Maybe this should be in the Q&A section, I don't know.

If people here knew that much, we would have lots more ports then the single rom we currently have. Android Manual is the only person who has done it yet. I say, your best bet is to google around as it would help you more. If you wanna build aosp roms (cm9/aokp etc) then i can help you, otherwise i cant. Lloir has a github device/vendor/hardware tree and rest of manifest you can copy from github.com/cyanogenmod and start building.
Good luck.

Ok, sorry I posted here, mods can delete/move this thread and slap me for me trying to help development lol .. I have googled this a lot before actually and what I understand is you need a device that is similar enough, hardware wise, to the one you're porting to to avoid problems. I'm sure someone with more experience than me thought about this and knows more.
Would be awesome if I had a rom to start from, instead of trying to build from scratch, even llior couldn't do it, although he didn't have a Desire X.
BTW, did you try the debloated 1.18 I posted that you wanted to know more about ?

It isn't that lloir cannot do it. He can and he is doing it. If you visit his github page you'll see he is actively fixing device tree for proto, meaning that a number of aosp Roms are just around the corner. Just have patience. As soon as first aosp comes alive, I promise aokp/cm9 for us. Got zero experience in sense porting that's why I'm not of much use now.

Yea, you probably have the most experience of us here building from scratch (I looked at your profile) ... LLoir said it before, he's too busy to debug his initial device and vendor trees and he doesn't have a Desire X, which is why other people have taken over (sometimes without permission). Trust me, android manual, stereo, maarten and me have been on the DX forum since it started and have been following up on stuff :cyclops:
But, back to topic : when porting, I understand you need a rom from the same manufacturer and with the same resolution (800x480, 233 dpi). What about the cpu though ? The One V which is 800x480 and 250dpi (because the screen size is slightly smaller) and is single core, our phone is dual core. Also, nobody found a way to S-Off the Desire X yet.
Considering all that, all I wanted to know is what ROM for what device out there would be the "easiest" to try and port to the DX ?
thanks btw for helping, much appreciated :good:

See i got no experience porting stuff coz its a mixed bag of hit n trial with no sure way of success. Dont get me wrong, i LOVE sense to bits, but porting is a thing which i tried n tried and gave up eventually.
Basically, you need to follow a simple guide (like one from proxuser, google it) and replace the necessary files. Most important is device resolution so u dont have to resize everything. CPU wont bother you much as you replace most of the vendor n hardware libs.
Once you get to boot animation, you're halfway there. Then its just logcat, and fixing the error lines by replacing stuff you guess will fix it. But getting to bootanimation loop is the hardest part.
I suggest you port from one v coz no other mainstream device has Qcom S4 PLAY . so dont worry about cpu. As for aosp build, i'm setting up my manifests as lloir has permitted me to use the trees.

Dont put ear to useless remarks. please do continue your work at github as no other person is interested in DX yet. This device isnt attracting much attention, i wonder why. The community isnt hostile, device specs are better than most midrangers. Anyways, im upgrading to mint 14 and then will resetup build envirnmt.

How about you learning how to port roms yourself and then porting CM to 9200 and making it available here? If you cant, stop complaining around the forum about the lack of development, noone owes you anything. You buying Mega hoping for CM to be available for it is just childish.

Second - if you feel that it isn't a good device just sell it and get another one, noone cares, just don't come to this forum and spam it with your stupid complaints! Read a guide about the proper behaviour here, in the old days you would have gotten hammered if you posted something like this.

Porting the final Lollipop "preview" to our G2

Hey guys,
Google just posted the updated preview of L to the Nexus 5 and 7 WiFi yesterday.
Now I know that it's not really the last build, but everyone on the internet are saying that it looks like the code is almost final.
So I wanted to ask - Are there developers here who's maybe working on a port for the LG G2?
I'd be really excited and happy to see a Lollipop port to our device, and if someone could do that, well...
Thanks.
Patience...
The SDK was released late yesterday. Our fantastic devs will port Android L to us sometime. Just have patience and wait.

Ohh but It's soooo hard to wait.
But say what you don't say, our developers are the best!
I just wanted to know if someone's working or will work soon on it.
Because there's at least until December for CyanogenMod's team to release CM12, and no one wants to wait that long.

Port it yourself, then.
It takes time for a port to get stable - it's not about getting Android L first. And devs won't release a half baked build, because some people will start complaining and crying.
So if you're really in a hurry, start porting yourself.

I wish I knew how to port.
And it's not that I didn't try learning, I just never got to understand how. This whole subject is hard for me.
And I'm not complaining or something, so don't get me wrong. I just wanted to see if some developers are working on it. I respect them and I know that it takes time.
Just wait a bit for the Lollisauce, and you'll get it pretty fast
the new lollipop preview is very close to final build.there is no major bug.so any developer please give porting a try.please.whole g2 community will be very thankful to you guys @fabioio @savoca @Cloudyfa @OptimusRs @bender_007 @dr87
and a request to those, who are going to say me to port it yourself, that i dont have any knowledge in porting
Guys you also have to know that porting like that is dangerous in somethings, it is harder since its an higher android version and its probably unstable also with alot of bugs. So I suggest just to wait until android L source is out , Cyanogenmod12.

I deem porting android l has never been easier than the previous android version due to the strict linux security, the enhanced art mode, and some other stuff

I would advise against it.there is no lg reference device (like last year), and you would be working off an sdk with no device specific bits. I don't think a functional port would be worth the effort involved.just wait and you'll have something before the end of the year (probably sooner).

But the source is out already, isn't it?
And Cyanogenmod 12 will be out no sooner than December...
I have no problem testing on my device and helping in anything else that needed.

There are a lot of ROMs for older devices which has no official support on the specific version. And from what I know Cyanogenmod are releasing new versions for devices even before any references appear, without any support.
CM my a**. CM11 is on M11 and you can still find bugs.
LG update is what matters. Rest is just meh.

Does one of you know a developer who would maybe take that quest?
Our G2 is a great device, I'm sure it's gonna live longer!
I'd love to see someone port it but then again communities these days are awfull. It would be a fun project if there weren't people complaining about bugs and demanding fixes..
