[Q] [QUESTION] Step by step guide to install CM9 on wt19i ? - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

I've tried to install CM9 in my LWW but ended up in a boot loop
tried wiping everything but it's not helping.
I've also tried to install Ex MiUI4 also same result. got the boot logo but
restarting over n over again.
What am i missing here
I have rooted , BL unlocked 4.0.4 stock rom.
Please guide me to install CM9 in a proper way.
Need some help here guys.

Did you flash the proper kernel?

Hi!
First of all, sorry for hijacking the thread but I'm in a similar situation, so there maybe no need to create a new topic.
Well, I also want to try CM9, but I've got some doubts yet.
My LWW is not rooted nor with bootloader unlocked, and I'm running official ICS 4.0.4.
I've been reading the tutorials/FAQ topic in this section and making some research (many thanks to all the community!:good but just to be on the safe side I need to clarify this.
I really need to root my phone in order to run CWM, which, subsequently is required to flash new kernel and ROM, right?
In case I want to go back to full stock, will I be able to backup stock kernel and ROM, then restore them, then re-lock bootloader, and finally, able to install OTA updates?
Thanks in advance!

You don't have to root and/or install CWM in order to install a custom ROM, that requires custom kernel.
These custom kernels already include root and recovery, so you don't need to install them manually, else you're just wasting your time.
And yes, make sure to install that custom kernel aswell.

Great! Thanks for your answer!:good:
I pretend to install FXP CM9.
Just one more thing... in case I need/want to revert to full stock (kernel+ROM) is it enough to re-lock bootloader and then "repair" in PC Companion? Or will this just mess things up and in that case I would need to install CWM to backup stocks (before flashing new kernel+ROM of course)?
Thanks again!

First flash stock ROM using flashtool. Then, relock bootloader. You can't repair with PC Companion while you're on CM9

Got it!
Thanks a lot for your help!:good:

I have flash the boot.img file inside of the CM9 zip file.
I guess that is the correct kernel ?
these are the steps i have followed.
1.) Boot in to recovery
2.) Wiped all user data, cache, dalvik cache, battery stats.
3.) Installed the cm-9.0.0-RC1-coconut.zip file (it had boot.img file also. should i need to remove it ?)
taken from : http://download.cyanogenmod.com/get/jenkins/3487/cm-9.0.0-RC1-coconut.zip
(haven't flashed the baseband zip yet)
4.) Reboot the phone into fastboot mode.
5.) flashed the kernel (taken from above zip file )
6.) Reboot the phone.
Ended up in Boot loop every time.

You need to flash the kernel. Use Flashtool. Enter fastboot (make sure you have proper drivers installed) and flash the boot.img. Then you'll be able to boot properly

what is the correct kernel would be ?

Sorry, I might have mistaken you. Did you already flash the boot.img via fastboot mode?
Ok, now I remember. I think the provided kernel does not work, it's bugged. You should use another one. I'll search the forum, there are other threads about this. Do the same, you'll find an answer in the first 2 or 3 pages of this forum

Yes CM9 kernel is not working, it s bugged.
You should try "FXP 127" or "FXP 128" kernel.
Try FXP 128 because it is the latest one and with less bugs....
You can download it from here....
FXP 128 - CM9

[Q] What is wrong in Hybrom v12 on my phone ?

Hi, first i want to say sorry about my english level and thanks to people who reads my post.
I try to flash mi xperia mini pro sk17, with ..058 version of firmware, unlocked bootloader, rooted and with CWM.
Will follow the step by step instruction, and after instalation my phone is stuck on Sony Ericsson screen and nothing happens about 10 minutes and after then i remove the battery and try to enter in CWM and again nothing happens.
Does anyone have the same problem and how you resolve it ?
Thanks in advance for people who help me !
Respect for all XDA members !
Occured same problem, flashed my phone back to stock firmware until I find a solution.
Anyone has one?
ok...i will try to explain....I believe you have installed nAa-r2 CWM? It is defective CWM since it is put in system/ section... hybrom rewrites this section, thus, when you start recovery from system/ and try to install ROM, you try to erase CWM from under CWM....just update your FW to .62, install custom kernel you like and then make all wipes and install zip from sd card)

Yeah, I think the best way is to update to .62, then install b kernel (made by bbooff himself - unlock bootloader needed) then load Hybrom, then you can install any other kernel you like. But I have problem with X kernel with Hybrom, first one is bootloo and then draining batterry very fast ^^"

the rom is based on 0.62 Kernel, upgrade first to 0.62 then try flashing again, i dont know if this makes a difference but its worth a try
I solved my problem and installed Hybrom v12 now.
First, indeed, you need to have unlocked bootloader and .62 firmware, I used WotanClient to flash the firmware. Then I got other kernel, I used http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1440161 this one.
Then I entered the Clockworkmod Recovery(press power button one-two times, when the screen goes lighter on turning on). Then I followed the instructions from the Hybrom and successfully installed it.
I got WT19i, but should apply the same.

[Q] NEED HELP - After installing custom roms stucks at black screen after sony logo

I have a xperia mini st15i-1.locked bootloader. 2.Unrooted. For rooting purpose i flash with a .42 based ftf file using flash tool and then i root my phone and install cwm by market app. Then I put the file to the to sd card and install it using aroma installer after wiping -1.cache,factory reset 2.format data 3.format system 4.format cache 5.format dalvik cache. Installation completes and when the device is rebooted it stcks after showing the boot animation.Dont know whats wrong. Please help I am tired of trying all this thing repetitively but no luck for me.
Which ROM did you flash? Which kernel are you using? If it's an ICS based ROM, and you're on a .42 GB, obviously enough the phone won't boot properly.

What is meant by ics based rom??
It means that they are developed starting from official Sony ICS ROM. Therefore, they will only work if you are using ICS kernel.
Do this:
-Download from HERE Mini's ICS firmware.
-Use Flashtool to flash only the kernel: this means you have to select the ICS .ftf and then uncheck all "Wipe" boxes. Then check all "Exclude" voices, but leave "Exclude kernel" unchecked.
-After flashing the kernel, you should be able to boot.

Thnxx....But if I want to install those roms then what should I do?Do I have to root the ICS?? I have this ftf and just flashed but I lost root access.
Well, you lost root access because you didn't do what I told you to do.
So why should I tell you what to do next? You probably wouldn't do it.
So... you flashed ICS. Congratulations. Now, to root ICS, you have to flash GB back. Then root it. Then, you can:
a) Flash ICS following THIS tutorial to keep root. Then install CWM. Then, use CWM to flash the ROM.
b) Install CWM on GB. Use CWM to flash the ROM. And then you can do what I told you to do earlier. That is: ONLY. FLASH. ICS. KERNEL. Not the whole ROM. Otherwise, you'll have to start from the beginning.

Installed Newts OnE and now stuck at white boot screen

Hello, I just got my Rezound today and the first thing I did was Unlocked the phone, Installed CWM and Rooted it Via [TOOL] [7-3-2012] HTC Rezound All-In-One Toolkit V2.1.
Everything was working fine. I could get into CWM recovery. I could still boot into the stock rom.
Next I downloaded NeWts-One-XxX-RLS-3.1.2-odex-signed.zip.
I wiped data/factory reset. wiped dalvik cache. installed the rom successfully..
When I reboot, I get stuck at the white HTC boot screen. I can still access CWM. I tried wiping and reinstalling. I tried downloading a different version of this rom. Nothing worked.
Should I try installing AmonRa? Can I just install right over CWM?
To clarify, I have not done anything other than what I have just said. I have not installed any custom kernels. Did not make a backup of the original rom (because it froze mid backup). I did not even use the phone at all before unlocking/rooting other than to make sure it booted.
Thanks in advance
Mike

You need to extract the boot.img file from the rom zip then use fastboot on your PC to flash it.
If you're not sure how to set up fastboot, I believe the all in one toolkit contains the needed files, following the instructions in the thread to download, install and use it.

Be aware that if you are on Gingerbread firmware (you are!) and running ICS ROMS, you need to flash the "Oldfirmware" patch to mount the SD card correctly.
Since you are S-on...every time you flash a rom you will have to flash...
1. The rom
2. the kernel (boot.img) that goes with the rom. You'll either have to pull this out of the rom itself or most dev. provide it as a PH98img file to flash in bootloader.
3. If an ICS ROM...flash oldfirmware patch.
ALSO, you didn't mention it but there is a patch to RLS 3.2.1 that correct some minor bugs. Its on themikmik ! Have fun.
EEK....use AmonRA NOT CWM

Yes, you need to lock your bootloader if you want. The method is almost the same as you did to unlock it.
The Bootloader will still be Unlocked (If I'm not Wrong)

while flashing the stock ROM (.ftf), make sure you check 'exclude kernel', then proceed. I'm not sure whether this is the right method to flash custom Kernel and Stock ROM, but afaik, it should work.. If you wanna be more sure, then try going through a few tutorials if you find them, or wait for a more experienced member to correct me if I'm wrong.
And also, I'm not sure of how efficiently stock ICS will work with mesa kernel..
Not claiming to be a more experienced user but...
1.) flash stock rom using flash mode
2.) flash kernel using fastboot mode
Ready.
You can not accidentally relock the bootloader by flashing a rom or kernel.
Sent from my phone.
No you will not relock your bootloader. If you Unlocked via the test point method you never need to relock your bootloader, whoever posted the second post needs to reread your question.
Flash using flashtool the ftf, then before you boot up your stock rom, flash MESA kernel via fastboot and flashtool then boot up for the first time. Done.
well i already flashed the rom.... and mind you never flash the kernel and then the rom(ticking xclude kernel) cuz the flashing stucks at 99%....
always flash rom first bootup and then poweroff and then flash kernel.....
also use bloatware remover removes the blotware and makes the stock rom superfast....... loving it......
although i cant seem to figureout on how to use v6 supercharger though....
ANY HELP ON THAT
THANKS AND TON....
and nvr get afraid while rooting u always get something in the last.... even if its a paperweight

You shouldnt have to bootup before flashing the kernel. It has nothing to do with the actual boot aslong as the kernel is correct for the rom you are trying to boot. If you want a fresh install with MESA kernel then you can flash the kernel in fast boot straight after flashing the ftf with flashtool.

Kernel and Rom to flash on my st15i

Can someone suggest me a kernel and an ics (or jellybean if exists) rom to flash on my xperia mini? I have now ics stock and my bootloader is unlocked. Also i want a guide to help me flash the rom and kernel.
(And also i have a question. Do i need a different custom kernel for every custom rom?)

If you want jelly bean, there's Cyanogenmod 10 by FXP, JellyVanilla and Cyanogenmod 10 by expeacer.
The easiest way to flash a kernel is via flashtool. Just download flashtool and install it. Go to the installation folder and install the drivers. For unlocking bootloader, fastboot should work for you and sdk tools should be installed.
Download the rom you want and the recommend kernel , place the installation zip file on your sd card and go back to flashtool.
In flashtool you click on the flash and select fastboot mode. You turn off your device and hold down the volume up key while connecting to pc. The blue led will light up. Then you select the boot.img you downloaded first. It should be named boot.img, otherwise rename it. Just select it and flashtool will automaticly flash it.
CHECK THE LOG BEFORE YOU PLUG OFF DEVICE!! If there are no errors, just restart device and press volume down again and again. Then you are in cwm. Look in the tutorial how to install the rom what has to be formatted/wiped (like cache or data, etc) and do it like it's explained there. Then select install zip from sd card -> choose zip and install it.
Just reboot and enjoy
After seeing the links of jellybean roms i changed my mind. They have much problems! So could you suggest me an ICS rom?

Expeacer's exmiui.
In this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1694027 link it says that it has auto root. This means tha if I flash this kernel then i can flash the ExMIUIv4 2.8.10 rom without rooting?
Miui rom already rooted by default. Such autoroot kernel will give problem with miui rom, u'll get superuser from the kernel and lbe guard from miui at the same time.
I've fixed such bugs in my kernel, try it if u want.

Ok, can you send me a link of your kernel?
So,
1) I flash your kernel using flashtool
2) I download CMW (when i have your kernel and the stock ics)
3) I flash the custom rom
This is all i have to do?
Look in dev subforum, my kernel thread is there.
Anyway:
1- flash kernel. Obviously your bootloader need to be unlock to do this.
2- cwm recovery already in kernel, dont need separate download/install for it. Just boot into cwm after u flashed kernel.
3- do factory reset from cwm, then do wipe dalvik cache.
4- flash rom.
5- reboot into rom.
6- profit

You don't need to download cwm, it's included in the kernel! Just flash kernel and reboot, while rebooting press volume down again and again!

everything is explained there. After unlocking your BL, flash a custom kernel RAGE KERNEL is my favorite as of now. If it gets into bootloop, meaning, your phone enters the boot animation but cannot get into the home screen, just make a full wipe in CWM. Then reebot. Works 100% with me!

You can unlock your bootloader officially, but you will lose your "DRM" . As a result, "track ID" and some features of "Facebook inside xperia" will never work again.Unlocking bootloader via "test point method" is somewhat hard. But it is the best way. That is how I've unlocked mine..!!
