Anyone able to solve the problem that seemly all Android phones have?
- If headphones are plugged in and we get an incoming call, the ringtone will play on both speaker and headphones.
- If headphones are plugged in and we get a notification, the sound will only play through speaker.
What I want is that nothing comes out of the speakers and only through the headphones.
So far, I am able to use Tasker to put the phone in Silent mode when headphones are plugged in and then toggle it off when headphones are not in. Problem with this is that the phone won't vibrate or ring at all when there's an incoming call and the same with texts/e-mails.
Mine only does through headphones. Newts latest release and SlimROM latest.

That's weird cause I get notifications/ringer switched when the headphone jack is in use and then the speaker is used when the jack is not being used... o.o
I think you can try DSP Manager. If I remember correctly it has an option to control those settings...
I'm using latest SlimROM...I've had this problem with every single Android I've owned.
I'm guessing no one else notices this or has this problem.
I found a Tasker script that might work:

Hi All
I have been told by o2 that the following is a feature:
When my XDA has an incoming call, with the headset plugged in, the 'ringing' only sounds from the headset instead of the speaker.
Is this a feature or a fault?
Comments gratefully received
I'd say bit of both.
I've had my headset plugged in and heard the ringtone through both the headset AND the unit itself, but perhaps there's a way of making it so that the headset is the only audio (perhaps plugging the jack in whilst on silent then turning it back up?).
I've definitely had the headset ring out whilst the jack is connected.
A
Feature or fault, that's a hard one to call!
I would say it working as designed, since the headset will always override the speaker in any fashion.
I've never heard of this. All the US units ring in BOTH if the headset is plugged in. Unfortunately, message notification and alarms sound only in the headset though.
Hi,
As far as I have found out the behavior is not consistent. My device sometimes only ring in the headset and sometimes ring both. I have found out if you plug in the headset and connect via USB cable to the PC it will always ring both in headset and speaker. This is true even after you have unplugged the USB. Seems to me some flag I set during USB connation that enables this... ?!
For notifications - this only works via the headset... for me at least.
I find this annoying - the SmartPhone works as it should in regards to this.
I run 4.00.05 baked at this site... keep up the good work !
I had this similiar feature/bug experience too.
My XDA rings both on the headset and its speaker. One day, at some point, I managed to put it into a strange state. I started playing an mp3 with the windows media player (WMP) without the handset, it played thru its speaker (that's correct). And then I plug in the headset, mp3 came out from only the headset (that's correct too).
After that, I pressed "stop" the mp3 in the WMP, and then "play" again, mp3 came out thru both the headset and its speaker.
I don't seem to be able to reproduce this "feature" anymore now. Well, of course, that's after a reboot a while later.
In fact, now I've got a question then. Does that mean the on/off of the speaker can be controlled in software? AFAIK, like the iPAQ, it's controlled in the hardware, that means if you plug in a headphone, the speaker of the unit will be off.
Does that mean the on/off of the speaker can be controlled in software?

Yes, evidenced by the phone behaviour. Most devices use a simple contact in the headset connector to disengage the speaker, but obviously not the PE.

I would rather ask it to be a user defined option. I believe the current setup (both ringing) came after noticing that you can simply forget your headset plugged in so you may miss some calls.
But in some situations (ex: meetings) I would like to keep the headset plugged in and get the rining only through it.
Hi Guys,
i have problem with my sgs2... few weeks ago i've damaged my phone by pluging headphones jack to soundboard with phantom (48V) turned on...
So now my phone thinks that the headset is connected all the time and when i make a call, sound and mic is going thru headset even if its unpluged, so i can't hear anything from speakr and microphone is turned of...
Now i'm running on CM9 experimental build - so i can't use app toggleheadset2 like before on CM7.
Is there any way to do software headset "unplug", e.g. to use terminal to route signal thru phone speaker and mic?
Thx
So I've been running Unnamed 2.21 and the latest Entropy's 3/7 DD for it and it's been rock solid for months without issue. This morning, my alarm went off and woke me up. Tonight, the sound no longer works! Or rather, it works only in specific scenarios. If I plug in earbuds or headphones into the jack, I can hear everything and the mic picks up sound (plugged == working). If I unplug the earbuds, the phone produces no sound and doesn't pick up anything with the microphone. However, if I make a call, and then press speaker, then I will get sound and can talk. And if I take it off speaker, it will work normally, but only for that call. After ending the call, the sound and microphone stop working.
Things I've tried so far:
Factory Reset/Data Wipe
Turned off phone, removed battery
Checked for dirt/debris in mic or speaker locations
This is the closest thread I've found to my issue, but it didn't get very far: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1520359&highlight=sound+only+works+when+plugged
Any ideas what could have suddenly brought this on? During this morning and this evening I made zero changes (to my knowledge) to the phone. Very frustrating problem, obviously...
Sometimes when you flash stuff some folder permissions get messed up. Try fixing permissions in recovery.
Does your volume button work?
Have you checked your sound settings?
Have you tried resetting your default sounds?
I tried that. No dice. Volume button works. Sound settings checked for idiocy. They're fine, nothing is silent. I suspect something wonky happened or is going on with the headphone jack (phone thinks headphones are plugged in, I think this would explain the weird behavior). I've tried this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.woodslink.android.wiredheadphoneroutingfix But sadly it didn't seem to help me. I'll give a go to cleaning the headphone jack.
update: ok it looks like the headphone jack is indeed the culprit. if i pull up the music app, plug in headphones, i can hear it. i unplug the headphones, the app pauses the sound, i hit play, it plays and i can hear sound from the phone speaker. however, right now it is only lasting a little while before i imagine it detects the headphones again and the sound cuts. this is pretty repeatable.
I have a problem with the sound on my Xperia S. It seems that I don't have sound through the ear speaker during calls. When I plug my genuine Sony Xperia S headset I do have sound. When I turn the speakerphone on during calls I do have sound. But when I use my mediaplayer w/o the headset I don't have sound over the speakerphone. Ringtones do not sound when receiving a call or text/IM-messages.
Some issues that might relate to this problem:
- I used my beats by dre Tour headphones, and since I installed KA09 Rom it doesn't give the system notification that the microphone and volume buttons don't work.
- I installed KA09 and today KA10, the problem still continues to exsist.
I never dropped the phone or had any damage, I only have it for 3 months now.
Anybody else facing problems like mine? If so, what was your solution?
Hello,
I've had Mate 2 for about 6 months. I've had 5 other android phones and feel pretty comfortable with rooting, flashing roms, recoveries and ADB.
When I first purchased the Mate 2 I tried the stock 5.1 EMUI on the Mate2, but I could stand the setup after using CM 12 and 13 on past devices. We use Mightytext for text messaging in our office and for some reason it did not like the stock EMUI messaging app and would not work with a 3rd party app like Textra.
When I tried CM 12 and 13, everything seems to work, particularly Mightytext, except if I'm listening to music or an audiobook with headphones (with and without an integrated Mic.) When someone calls with the headphones in and I remove them and then answer the call, I can't hear the other person and they cannot hear me, but the call definitely connects. If I'm in the car and connected via bluetooth and listening to music, it is not a problem.
Another issue for me is the external speaker does not work with an alarm if the head phones are plugged in. I use Alarm Clock Xtreme which has a setting to play to the speaker even if head phones are plugged in, but that does not work on the Mate 2 (with stock or custom roms.)
While normally not insurmountable, both these issues are enough to really frustrate me. Any ideas? I flashed back to EMUI 5.1 and the headphones and mic work fine so I don't think it is a hardware issue.
Thanks for any help!

While I don't have any answers or ideas, I think I have the same problem as you on the latest CM13.0 snapshot. No audio on calls when headphone jack (I have a small headphone jack button) plugged in. In CM12.1 it was working fine for me though and was possible to use an app called HF Button Widget to change the audio routing to the phone's speaker (while keeping button plugged into headphone jack). Maybe the phone acts like it is hitting mute or silences the audio when the jack is plugged or unplugged? I've had to remove my button and keep my headphone jack empty as a workaround until this is solved or a newer version solves it. Also another workaround might be bluetooth headphones I haven't tried that yet.
