three network modem - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just wondered if anyone had a 3 UK mobile network modem as I would love to compare it against other uk modems
Thx.

That'll be the NELE4 modem. You can get it from here by searching.
However, it doesn't work with the most up to date firmware (callers won't hear your voice). To be honest, I'm now on the stock modem and haven't noticed any performance difference to the NELE4 I had before I updated firmware.

thanks mate, so no real benefit in using 3 modem over latest stock (lfb) ?

Well I have noticed a difference in the 3 UK firmware, as 3 UK technically has 2 networks running co-inside, you will find that the 3 UK firmware actually selects which network has the best signal, either their 2g side or their 3g side, however custom roms or debranded firmwares cannot defrenchiate between which network is which, and therefore you can find that you may be locked to the 2g side of the network (which is what I found). If you use the 3 UK branded firmware it actually says "3 (3G)" and "3 (2G)" if you're looking at the networks page, whereas custom roms do not show this, they just show two "3" networks, so you cannot tell which one is which.
I am wondering whether anyone else had noticed this or if there was a workaround for this problem?

Modem
So,i was wondering...
Since i've bought my phone in Portugal,and unlocked when i was in there,but currently living in London and using the T-Mobile(now called Three Network) which modem would you suggest me?
I'm using the latest FoxHound v2.0
Because sometimes i lose the the mobile data and can't get any kind of data....

[Q] Best modem for australia

Hey guys had a search and i couldn't find the answer so was just wondering what modem is the best for optus australia on the GSII
Try them and see which one gives you the best results, modems are very carrier and region specific, maybe check what modem was shipped by your carrier, and work from there.

I've got my wifes phone on kh3. No complaints. I'm stuck on SGS1 'til may. Interested to know others modem experiences on Optus. I think I might try an older one like Ke7 that it came with and compare results.
Depends on which model you have. If you have a GT-i9100 then you can use any modem (with the newest most likely to be the best) but if you have a GT-i9100T then you'll want to use the modem that came with your phone otherwise you'll experience poor signal and no 3G.
OK just a follow up. KH3 is fantastic, it has better signal than my original galaxy did on every modem I tried on it so I can highly recommend it to optus

I'm with Vodaphone and have a GT-I9100T. I have tried many modems and haven't experienced poor signal or no 3g/h.
In fact, I've found the biggest impact on signal/gps and ability to connect to faster networks, is to have the correct CSC. Which is sometimes changed when using custom ROMs. Keep that in mind.

I use I9100TVAUKF4, which can be downloaded here.
It's so large because of all the vodafone extras.
Credits to Intratech.
My favourite is KH3. I have used it on Vodafone, this had the fastest download speed for me but battery drain was a little higher than my previous modem. (I believe was KE7)
On Optus and Telstra, KH3 is by far the best modem that I have used. Granted, I haven't tried every single modem - I have used about 4.
Now, I'm not sure the KH3 is the best straight up for Optus, but it si the best, in my experience overall for Australian networks.

Australia.
OPP = AUSTRALIA

VAU = AUSTRALIA
XSA = AUSTRALIA
TEL = AUSTRALIA
HUT = AUSTRALIA
Can confirm that XXKH3 modem has the fasted internet speed I've been able to achieve on the Optus network.
Stable h+ and 3g without having to do the *#301279# thing.
Using this modem with Optus XWKG1 firmware in country northern NSW.

Heya, I don't know much at all about modems, but seeing as no one else has any ideas I thought I'd just suggest for you to take a look at this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1277593
The second post shows a comparison between all of the modems that he tested.
I flashed KI4 just because.
I haven't noticed any differences (yet. I haven't really tested it out much) but then again I didn't have issues to start with.
Maybe worth a try? 8)
I've also found this and decided to flash it, too.
(Something to do with GPS stuff)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1233256
Hope it helps!
I have been told local radio/baseband/modem will be better in terms of reception... not sure if that is true...
i'll give it a go anyway =]
In settings/about phone is your baseband 'dukf4'?

I'm using the I9100TDUKF4 modem with I9100 KJ3 firmware. Works well.
Give the Telstra I9100TDVKF2 modem a go. I found it better than the Vodafone modem for the I9100T.
Search for it in the Q&A forum.

Thanks all... I'm switching a lot of baseband today, KH3, KH4 is not good for T version S2s....
and yes, it was I9100TDUKF4 in basband before, that gave me an average speed and reception...
I have also aware that maybe the service provider will affect the reception, so my guess will be if for T version S2s, it has to be used different baseband when the phone is with Telstra and voda...
anyway i am using NEKF2 atm, the speed is amazing but the reception is again not much improved....

Yep! For i9100t it's best to use only the voda or telstra modems. I use kf4 on my telstra version running optus sim.
Does anyone have a cwm version of the telstra modem?

Hsdpa/3g switching issues

First off phone is stock and un rooted.
My issue is that the phone will switch to 3g or E so much and then often not switch to H when I use an app requiring Internet so the app won't load anything. Anyone else have these issues or is there a fix? I'm in Australia btw.

If your phone is unrooted, there are limited things you can do to solve it. If it is rooted, you can actually try to flash different modems for your phone and see which one works best for you or just find out from this forum what modem is best for your carrier.

Most official modems for my region are terrible, I'll bet your's aren't better. Asian modems have a far greater stability, especially the DXLF3 modem.
You can't do anything wrong when flashing a modem. Just get Odin, head to the modem collection thread, pick your modem and flash away.

Sounds like antenna ping-pong. Basically that means that your carrier keeps moving you from one antenna to the other.
Alternatively, check if you have any Proxy configured in the APN settings as slow proxies can cause the same issue: go to Settings->More->Mobile network->Access point names, choose the one reading 'internet' (or something like that)
Check if any Proxy server IP is filled in. If yes, write it down and delete it from the profile. If Internet doesn't work, reconfigure it.
If it's better, congrats
Oh really! I didn't realise the Asian modems would work well in Australia thought they would be specific to region, obviously not! I will try the flash if nothing else works..
I checked in the settings like u asked but there is nothing under proxy? Should here be an ip is that the possible problem?

there is still difference in term of speed between 3g and H. if you want consistent H+, change modem to BWLE5, if you not in LFB based rom.

I'm currently on lf2, being constantly on h+ would drain battery wouldn't it? And h+ wouldn't be available in many areas? Sorry haven't mucked around with this stuff before Thanks for answering but!

with this modem, your phone will go straight from 3g to H+, it doesn't even know H anymore. lol. try it to feel the drain on your own.

Which modem with CM10.1?

Hey!
So after going from Jb leak, which had XXLS6 (or LSJ6 can't remember) modem to CM10.1 I decided to switch to XXLQ6 which is the modem that came with the phone. Reason for this is I thought leak modem was for Poland and such areas only and I live in North Europe so I figured LQ6 would work better. I also thought calls sounded weird on cm and tried if this would solve it.
Well, it didn't. I think it's a rom "problem" and tbh it isn't even a problem because calls work fine, I just didn't remember having that sort of complete silence when no one was speaking (no static sound as before). Hope that makes sense
Now I'm thinking that ls6 will probably be the modem here as well, or the successor of it will be, so should I use that with CM10.1? It worked fine and battery was good too, or should I just stick with the old LQ6 since my ril matches with it, although this apparently means nothing. There's also option C) "Use whichever you want to"
I heard that this modem (LS6) has a battery drain issue for some users. I used it for a week and I didn't noticed any major issue personally
Bvlp7 is awesome, use this to find modems http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1131950 also don't change any rils
Modems are location dependent, so try to find people who are in your area with good signal or your stock carrier modem

Lq6 is the stock modem, I'm just wondering if the ls6 is an improved modem since it's for jb or do modem stay pretty much the same. I'm not sure though what the jb radio will be for my location obviously.

Umniah network - amman jordan

Hello, i have just moved to amman, jordan and i bought an umniah network simcard but i have a strange problem. It keeps drops the signal all the time. The same sim on other phones works perfectly and other samsung phones like the note 2 or grant work as they should. I was thinking that the problem might be the modem. Im on rootbox 4.1. I haven't tried a sammy rom yet cause i dont have a good internet connection yet. Anyone knows a good modem version to try? Thanks in advance..
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
No one will be able to pinpoint a 'good' modem for you. Each person will need a different modem depending on their carrier and region. For example, I'm using XXMS2, while my brother, with the same phone but different carrier, is on DVLS3. I have a horrible signal with his modem, as he does with mine.
What you'll have to do is flash a few and test which works for you. They're not big files so you'll be fine to download a few without a good connection. Don't flash ril+modem, you want modem only.

Try the modems bundled with stock roms released by the carrier in question then the stock roms released by other carriers in that country first. That should help you narrow it down/save you some time.
