I am trying to convert a number of MP4 videos taken on my XDA2 into a AVI or WMF format but cannot find a program to do this. I have purchased a number that say they do but when installed do not recognise MPeg4. I would also like to watch the videos on my home PC - what program will do this please?
Thanks

Quicktime plays MP4. No conversion needed.

QuickTime can play XDAII *.mp4 but no sound, isn't it? Could someone help me on this matter?
MP4 from XDA2... ...and DVD
It is still usefull to convert MP4 to MPEG2 or MPEG1 - because you can burn your videos on DVD or VideoCD and show them then on TV.
But what is the best tool to do it?
MPG4 convertor
Greetings All,

Quick Time plays XDA 2 MP4 files with sound here.
hi guys,
unfortunately there is no up2date thread in these forums bout this topic and i am also not sure whether there are news..
so, any1 knows when some kind of software will be released to play normal avi, divx, xvid, mpeg and so on?
Strange that we've still not had anything along these lines coded up yet.
I'm sure it's just a matter of time, hopefully when the official kernels get released.
Maybe then coding will be more 'open' than it currently is on the Hero platform.
http://coreplayer.com/content/view/28/69/
And we all know what CorePlayer did for the WinMo platform right?
I'm surprised its taking so long to create divx codecs for android...
on my nokia n80 i was able to play divx files, and it didtn have the half of cpu power compared to hero. dont know what these fuc*ers doing there!
DivX is a mpeg-4 encoder, and the hero can play back mpeg-4. You probably are using some older version of divx that did not produce standards-compliant video files or you put your mpeg-4 in a container that the video player on the hero can't read.

The container is AVI - Android does not support AVI containers. That being said, I did encode a file using Handbrake using MPEG4 (XviD) in an MP4 container and my Hero would only play the audio not the video, whereas it worked fine as H264 in MP4.

Dave
YES this is a serious issue...why hasnt any gud media codec software arrived in the market yet??

At least they are working on it

Question, why do you want divx capability when it can do h.264?
coz u dont have to convert those videos then!!
just put them in and play them directly on ur HERO!
All mobile devices, play video better when its encoded to the screens resolution, I do hope you are doing this. iTunes does it for you but I use Handbrake. when scaling the vid down, change it to h.264 and your on
+
If you still have divx files then you need to get better vids, HD MKV files are the only way to fly.

and where do you find 32+GB microSDHC memory cards for those vids...
What I mean is, you take a 4GB 720p hd mkv and shrink it to 480x320 and then put that on the hero, works fine.
Hello Guys,
Just wanted to know if Dell Streak can play 1080p or 720p Videos or not?
I tried playing mp4/ avi files using Rock Player, they worked with lag, is there any work around?
Have you enabled the hardware acceleration in the build.prop?
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
I convert them to .mp4's to watch on my Streak.
The Streak is only 800x480 so theres no point trying to play a 1280x720 video.
A converted 720p .mkv file is soooo much better quality than its .avi counterpart.
I use the Touch HD Encoder, a very simple and effective program.
Can I ask what program u guys use to convert the video files?
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
i use Rock Player from Market to play video files; i try 720p and 1080p mkv movies with subtitles and works perfect 100%, like on computer with hd video card .
there is a great program in the forum called "Encoder" - I have used it to convert videos to mp4 for all my previous phones to play without any lag.
I use arc media player, not come across a file yet that it wont play, everything from avi, to mkv to mp4, in any definition. Great apparently and its free!
Sorry if this is OT:
I am having issues getting my DVDs converted to digital on my desktop. I was trying to use handbrake, but it always came out funny (jagged sound and large rainbow pixels across the screen). I assume this is some kind of copyright protection.
Right no I am desperate to convert my library to digital back ups that I can toss on and off my devices at will. Any insight on how to solve my problem would be great.
I used Handbrake without any probs - did you choose the best settings? I used Presets Normal, Video Codec Mpeg-4 & Picture Size Custom - I resized using Aspect Ratio.
I followed a couple guides online. I m not even talking about it getting to the phone, it won't even play on the desktop.
So far I ve used these settings:
720x480
264
mp4
EDIT: Just for clarity. Should I be using VLC since Handbrake does not decrypt? (I read this after a google search please inform me if I m wrong).
you can play 720p [email protected]
see this thread

Hi
Can you let me know how you got this to work
I tried to use the Dice Players directions
http://diceplayer.inisoft.co.kr/news-and-tips/howtoremovenexus-1h264codecrestrictions
I get as far as trying to backup the original codec module and keep getting a Permission denied message
Any help would be much appreciated
Many thanks
As you know our phone isn't really equipped to play most videos we throw at it, so what video bitrate/resolution/framerate have you found to work the best on the Optimus one?
And please mention which software you use to convert.
THIS IS IT....
xvid codec 640*360 max with ~1Mbps and mp3/aac audio are played without conversion...(your Sitcom episodes)...
Havent TRIED h264 or DIVx playback ...on the box though it does say DIVX resolution upto 320*240..
files with ogg video(theora) and ac3 audio dont play without conversion
No 720p,1080p/i playback possible...FOR ALL HIGHER resolutions/bitrate u need to convert ..i have a personal converter favourite....hassle free and its just a GUI for the wonderful FFMPEG program...herehttp://miksoft.net
Really? Mine struggles to play 624x352 24fps .mkv files. Unwatchable.
Which video player do you use on your phone?
I use Handbrake for all my videos. Starting from the "iPhone Legacy" profile, here are the settings I use to create H.264 files:
- Video: 480 x 320, H.264 (x264) codec, 768 Kbps bitrate, FPS same as source
- Audio: AAC (faac), stereo, 44.1 KHz, 128 kbps bitrate.
Image and sound are crystal clear, but of course, you can find your own favorite settings (just don't mess with the advanced settings, our CPU only handles the basic H.264 profile).
I use RockPlayer (the free version) for playback, because it can render .srt subtitles.

Lol I m pretty sure its not mik's company and I never said I cud play mkv files ...that container is a ***** ..
Yeah it is. And thanks for that link, it works great.
I'm using the m video player. It is pretty good and plays with subtitles. Loving it. Just that the phone doesn't support higher resolution mp4 videos. Jus the audio plays and the video drags. I use demo player to play flv. Some videos play fluently while other drag and drag!!
Also ppl if you are into h264 (like masteryx is)
U could try "any video converter" here http://www.any-video-converter.com/products/for_video_free/
It is wonderful i m using it...At these setting
h264 778Kbps 480*320
mp3 48Hz 128kbps
in .avi container..Conversion is faster than handbrake

I was wondering the same thing! *.mkv wasn't really a good experience on p500
Hi, hopefully you can help me with this.
I have been recording with my photo camera clip videos in AVI/Jpeg for several years, and I have a few of beloved clips on my desktop that I would like to watch on my galaxy S II. Dice and stock videoplayer cannot open the files, Mobo can, but the video is not good and the audio is not working at all.
I would like to know, if it is possible to install a codec or using a special videoplayer, or instead am I forced to convert the clips to another format supported by the phone?

Thanks for your replay. I tried rockplayer. Nice player, It works well for the video (software mode decoding) but the audio is totally corrupted. The audio format is PCM_u8 ([email protected]). The clip were taken with a Fuji F31, a best seller a few years ago, hard to believe it was recording audio in a so weird format that nothing can read it...

yeh..then mate u will be forced to change the format - convert the video(audio) in order to see it on SGS2. i am afraid.
galaxy s 2 supports such as MP4, DivX, XviD, WMV, H.264, H.263 video codec and MP3, WAV, eAAC+, AC3, FLAC audio codec. you need to confirm your AVI videos is one of them. both audio and video. if not, easier way is to convert them when player dont meet your want.
Video from Fuji F30
I've got the Fuji F30 with exactly the same problem: video playback somehow works -albeit jerky- but PCM audio doesn't at all. Is there a general problem with PCM decoding on android?
I tried both my Samsung Galaxy Tab and the Motorola Defy, both running gingerbread. I tried MoBo and Rockplayer. Stock player doesn't even open that video
It s an hassle having to re-encode your clips, but at least xilsoft or wondershare rippers worked well with me. Honestly the F30 serie cameras are out of date when it comes to video. Shame, because sensor quality is unmatched in a supercompact...
