[DEV Q] Hang on boot animation after reset data. - Galaxy S III Q&A, (US Carriers)

I'm working on a new AT&T ROM build and for whatever reason, if I clear data in CWM and then flash my ROM, or any ROM I believe, my phone then hangs on boot animation. It can sit there for 20 minutes and do nothing. I just can't track down the correlation. Anybody else see this?
I think I know what I was doing wrong. I may have had some bad formatting in my updater-script.

Boor Loop with CWM but not Odin

Hey guys, first off this is not a thread to ask for how to get out of a boot loop, so don't flame me before reading it.
I've been running various Stock roms, KG2/KI3/KJ2 which are all flashed through Odin and work fine, but I can't seem to flash ANY roms at all using CWM, I've tried wiping the cache and wiping user data before flashing but everytime I use CWM to flash my phone gets stuck in a boot loop, tried various roms and they all get stuck in boot loop which I have to use Odin to fix and root so I can get CWM again, but out of the 5 or so roms I've flashed with CWM they all seem to put the phone into a boot loop. Anyone have any ideas on what I may be doing wrong?
I know how to fix the boot loop, what I want to know is how the heck do I get roms to run when flashed using CWM. I've used CWM on numerous other android devices and I'm pretty sure I'm flashing it right (clear user data, clear cache, install zip from sdcard). I mean its not rocket science. Would really appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks.
Have you tried flashing it twice in a row, without reboot in-between?
That I haven't tried. I'll give it a try. Cause nothing seems to be working.
Ok, just tried double flashing without rebooting and it still does the boot loop.

Help with upgrading firmware through odin. Phone stuck on boot animation

Hi all,
I am trying to update my phone to a new firmware using odin. I am following the instructions in this thread. However after odin has done its thing, it displays "PASS!", my phone reboots but then hangs on the boot animation. I have left it for about 20 mins and tried reflashing the rom with no luck.
I have also tried another firmware, but its gets stuck in a half bootloop (repeating the boot animation)
Does anyone know what might be causing this and how I can fix it?
Thanks
Aaron
Boot to recovery and wipe cache see if that works, if it still bootloops you'll need to boot to recovery and do a factory reset.
I booted into recovery and wiped everything, and it works now.
Thanks

i9300 cm10 nightly 2-28-13

Hey guys, tried flashing the newest nightlies to my phone this morning the file was produced on 2-28. I made a backup, rebooted, returned to recovery, then installed the update zip and rebooted. Once I did this somehow I was stuck in boot loop. I let the phone go for 5 minutes with the same result so turned it off and back on and still would not come out of the boot loop. Has anyone else had this issue? Is there something I am missing? I did apply this nightly as an "update zip" in the sense that I didn't wipe or clear caches. If anyone has any thoughts on this feel free to let me know, I would like to keep up with the nightlies .

Jep. The 20130228 fails to boot. You're not the only one who's stuck in a bootloop.
Just flash today's nightly (20130301) and everything should work again.
Thanks for they reply man

[Q] Cannot do a system recovery. Can you tell me if i have a new paperweight?

I've had my Samsung Galaxy S Showcase (tracphone) for awhile now and decided to root it. For some dumb reason I flashed a custom ROM onto it.
I had no problems until I downloaded Boot Animation. I selected a custom boot animation, rebooted my phone, and it loops at the animation forever.
I tried to restore using CWM and get the message "MD5 mismatch!"
I tried a factory reset, it errors every step of the way, then says data wipe complete. I reboot and it just keeps looping at the new boot animation.
I tried wiping the cashe, and formatting everything to re-instal the ROM. I select the ROM. it starts to install, resets the phone like it did the first time, but instead of going back to CWM to finish installing, it loads to the boot animation and loops.
I'm very new at this so I don't know what info you would need to help me out if at all possible. and if its impossible at least tell me that I'm royally clucked so I don't spend the rest of my life wondering =)
you can try to flash stock with odin there will be many threads and tutorials about it on the forums
Thanks for the suggestion, but I gave it to my friend who thinks he knows everything and he somehow turned it into a Samsung Mezmerize. Now a question about that. If I try and root it do I put CWM on it as a Samsung Mesmerize? I'm just very confused about everything now, do I treat it and everything I do to it as a Mesmerize?

TWRP - wipe cache/dalvik/anything.... soft brick...

So I have been following the unofficial cm-10.2 ROM. I have dirty flashed probably 3 times without issue. I flash the ROM, a pinlock removal zip and gapps. Then wipe dalvik/cache and reboot. I started doing this with twrp 2.6.
So this morning I grab the latest update, backup, flash.l, reboot.... nothing.
Stuck at LG logo to a black screen. I can get into bootloader, blindly vol down twice and into recovery, now twrp 2.5, so I try to recover by backup, reboot.... black screen.
So I try wiping/factory reset, clean flash, reboot.... black screen...
Now I am a little concerned. I read up and find out about TeenyBin, so I setup my machine to flash the standard zip and that doesn't really work, it flashes fine, reboots but is stuck at LG logo and the tool reports disconnected, so the tool fails kind of. So I try the alternate, same sort of thing, but now it says Google instead of LG and is stuck there. I can get into bootloader, can see text now (nice!) and get into recovery, still 2.5. Tried restoring, wiping/flashing, nothing working..... stuck at Google logo.
So, then I went and formatted internal storage. Bingo! Now I can flash/restore/whatever and I can reboot and get into ROM!
Woah, woah, woah... Not so fast.
So now if I wipe anything, cache/dalvik/system/ANYTHING it soft bricks. I have to again format internal, then flash. That doesn't seem right to me. Sure, I have a functioning phone, but updating is a bigger ***** now that I have to completely format before flashing.
So my question to you all, how do I fix this? Do I need to completely go back to stock image and reroot? I appreciate all your suggestions.

Give CWM a shot and see if it does the same thing?
