Mine doesn't. :/
hmm...i wonder what can be done. hope i dont need to swap this phone
My MSL code works, I got it from employee accounts. I had to use it to reset my 3vo because I activated it on a number other then the number I bought it on.
##786#MSL->Reset
I asked about how to reset my phone in another thread and they told me I needed this code so I just called in, spoke to the lady and she pulled it up for me.
i got my code online when i activated my phone. no good.
how do we get our MSL to see?
if you didnt activate online, you'd probably have to contact sprint and ask for it.
Maybe ur code isn't right,call in and double check
Bussin Caps from my 3D shooter
activated mine online yesterday using the MSL code that appeared in the instructions...........however, if I do ##3282" and Edit, then input the same MSL code, it doesn't work.........however, I can do ##msl code#, and that will show the areas to edit if I wanted to change the number. How come that MSL code doesn't work for the other codes?
The msl you got in the email when you activated your phone online is a one time msl. It expires after a certain amount of time. If you want your "real" msl you will have to call sprint, go to the store or use cdma workshop.
Sent from my SGT using Tapatalk
Their are 2 types of CODES one is a ONE TIME code which you probably received and the Other is the MSL the actual MSL code never Expires
What the two guys above me said.
mine works. got it via the CDMA Workshop method.
can also pull your msl by following the thread i made... it involves using ADB to copy the radio configuration...

This thread was created as a central location for the most up to date and relevant information around the EVO 3D Development Scene.
Yes, if you are new to the DEV scene or are about to ask a question a very n00b question like "what is S-OFF?", "how do I...a bootloader?", "does my EVO turn into a jet and take me to x, y, or z?"...then you should be reading this. It's ok, we were all Noobs once. You can always check this more than once since I will try to update it with additional issues/solutions that your fellow members post as they become available.
Changed in this Update:
-Renamed APKs section to "Apps and APKs"
-Addition of Flash Image GUI to Apps and APKs
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Full Root Status:R00T3D!
S-OFF Status:S-OFF3D!
S-OFF has been achieved! We have our friends at unrevoked and AlphaRev to thank for their hard work in bringing this to the table!

Rooting/ROM FAQs
First and foremost, I will utilize this opportunity to throw out the standard disclaimer. YOU and YOU ALONE are responsible for ALL actions and modifications done to your device. Although most of the methods described on this thread and throughout the DEV community are fairly harmless, no one else can be held responsible if your device becomes a brick.
I just got my EVO 3D! I want to root it
There are a few ways to answer this question, both are detailed below. The first method utilizes a Temp Root solution provided by Team Win. This is good if you're nervous about the rooting process or if you just want to get a taste of rooting possibilities. The second (and most popular) method is a full unlocking of the phone into what is known as "S-OFF" mode, which allows previously restricted parts of the phone to be accessed allowing a user low level access.
Temp Root
Grab the Fre3vo Temp Root solution from Fre3vo, from TheRootofallEVO or xHausx has provided a nice little Windows ADB package in Zip form for starters.

Also, ausbostinmang on youtube has made a nice walkthrough video if you learn better with pictures like in the storybooks!
Full Root with S-OFF
Download Revolution from unrevoked and AlphaRev here. Follow the instructions explicitly as this solution is currently in Beta and subject to change without notice.
How Do I know if my device is S-OFF?
Ensure the device is completely powered off, the best way is to pull the battery and replace it. Boot into the bootloader to check it by holding the volume key down + pressing the power button when the device is fully powered off. Don't let go of the volume key until you boot into the white screen that you've probably never seen before. Look at the top line it will MORE THAN LIKELY have “S-ON”.
I hold the volume down + the power button but it doesn't boot into it!!!! help!!!
Pull the battery out before you do it OR to make things ALOT easier, before turning your EVO 3D off go into Settings ?Power? and uncheck the FastBoot option. Now when you turn the device off, it will fully power down instead of just going into a "sleep" mode. Try it again!
The easiest way to do this is to reboot or start your phone in the bootloader. Pull you battery and replace it. Hold Down the Volume Down Button while pressing the power button. Release the power button and continue holding Volume Down until the bootloader screen appears. The first line of text at the top of the BL screen should show S-ON or S-OFF. See the image below for reference.

How do I flash a ROM on my EVO 3D?
A complete list of Recovery's, ROM's, and Kernels is being maintained by arozer here. Each of the threads contains basic instructions for flashing the individual Modifications.
My EVO 3D keeps saying that there is an OTA (Over the Air Update) available, should I apply it?
Currently, the best recommendation is NO. In most cases, the OTA updates are integrated via a ROM created by a community developer. This has the benefit of having the latest HTC Sense software while still maintaining an unlocked bootloader (S-OFF) and avoiding the potential of HTC covering the exploit utilized for the S-OFF hack.

Just got my new EVO 3D but it’s really hot!!! Is it defective?!
No it's not defective, it’s just hot. These batteries can heat up from time to time, ESPECIALLY on your first few charges, but it won't happen much anymore after. My battery was extremely hot from just charging it for the first time with the phone turned off, so I’m speaking from experience and from other users as well.

Flash Image GUI by joeykrim
joeykrim has developed Flash Image GUI, for the EVO 3D which allows kernels to be properly loaded on the device w/o rebooting into a recovery. Flash Image GUI allows the user to properly flash a kernel .zip file while in Android mode. In addition, it correctly copies the WiFi module (all modules) thus eliminating the common WiFi error.
Flash Image GUI is especially helpful flashing kernels for users with the HTC unlock method as HTC blocks kernel write access while in traditional recovery mode requiring the user to fastboot boot recovery in order to gain kernel write access.
Luckily, HTC also allows kernel write access in normal android mode where the application works very well.
Full details for Flash Image GUI can be found on its home thread at http://goo.gl/sNi7V

Getting Your MSL
With Root
Install MSL Reader from the Android Market
Without Root
A risky but functional way to get your MSL has been described in detail HERE. An alternative YMMV way is to simply contact Sprint, tell them your phone was not activated at the store because the systems were down or because of a factory reset, etc. They will proceed to walk you through the programming. Of all the information they give you there is really only one sequence you need pay attention. The first step will be to dial a ## 6 digit number sequence # (ex: ##123456#), this 6 digit number is your MSL. SAVE THIS NUMBER, IT IS UNIQUE TO YOUR PHONE HARDWARE AND WILL NOT CHANGE.
An additional and alternate method of finding your MSL has been detailed here. Thanks go to Ranger61878 for the tip.
Increase your WWAN/WAN Connection Speed/Efficiency
A slight variation of the thread HERE this guide will guide you through removing the Poxy put in place by Sprint. Removing this proxy removes at least one or more hops in between you and your connection destination, possibly increasing your WAN connection speed via 2G/3G/4G and Wi-Fi. As always, use at your own risk. You will need your MSL code for this to work.
Removing the Sprint Proxy
1. With MSL in hand, go to the Phone app and dial ##3282#
2. Click Edit Mode
3. Your "Password" is your Phone's MSL, enter it here.
4. Click Advanced
5. Scroll down to RTSP/HTTP Setting
6. Change RTSP proxy IP to 0.0.0.0 or You can leave this blank if you like
7. Change RTSP proxy Port to 0 (Zero)
8. HTTP proxy IP to 0.0.0.0 or You could leave this blank if you like
9. HTTP proxy port to 0 (Zero)
10.Once complete, back out to the home screen and enjoy Downloads and a .20- .60 mbps increase in 3G speeds!
It may not hurt to verify the settings are in place by following steps 1 through 5 again, if you're OCD.
Improve CDMA Call Sound Quality via a Codec Change.
A few instances of this Codec change have popped up on XDA, PPCG, and even androidforums. For this reason, I'm unable to give credit to the original source. I have gathered as much data into one place around the subject. There are a few important things to note. This adjustment changes the Codec used to compress the voices of you and your caller across the Cell Network using EVRC-B which is an updated revision to the current CDMA standard EVRC. It has been noted in a few places, that making this change CAN effect your ability to make outbound calls in some roaming situations, including over Network extenders like the AirRave. As always, YMMV and I STRONGLY recommend that you both test this change in your normal use environments as well as keep a general idea of these instructions handy in the event you need to revert to the default settings in an emergency. As always, YOU and YOU ALONE are FULLY responsible for changes to any handset in which these and any modifications are made.
1. With MSL in hand, go to the Phone app and dial ##3282#
2. Click Edit Mode
3. Your "Password" is your Phone's MSL, enter it here.
4. Click Advanced
5. Scroll down the list and note the entries for EVRC-B, Home Orig, and Roam Orig.
6. Change EVRC-B to "Enable"
7. Change Home Orig and Roam Orig to "EVRC-B"
8. Hit Menu, and select "Commit Modifications"
9. Your phone will prompt you to click ok to restart or it will restart automatically.
To reverse the changes, repeat all of the above steps except change the following.
6. Change EVRC-B to "Disable"
7. Change Home Orig and Roam Orig to "EVRC"

I believe he is referring to the "Sensation Devs." The group has been in existence for a sum total of twenty days- which is somewhat suspect to have such high level sources inside the dev community. Clearly this is speculation, but as the previous poster states they were the same group to claim Sunday as the release date (I haven't confirmed this) there is a bit of evidence for trolling.
20 days + Poor History = Troll alert.

So, what do you mean when you say "S-OFF is almost out of the question"? That makes it sound like S-OFF can't be obtained.
Edit: When you mentioned S-OFF being out of the question, are you referring to HTC's solution? If so, I definitely miss-read what you wrote.

Google goggles version 1.6 is available for my Sprint EVO 3D via the Android Market. Not sure which version of Google goggles you're looking for but according to the Android Market on my device the latest version is 1.6.
From experience, I know the Android Market lists the EVO 3D from Sprint and the "other" EVO 3D as separate devices allowing developers to pick and chose which devices are supported by their applications.
Without any detail, it is hard to say for sure why it isn't available for your device. A simple bypass method would be somebody could upload the Google goggles .apk file and you can manually load. Of course, you'd need to be prepared to trouble shoot and I'd recommend making a backup first. Never know what conflict or issue loading an application on an unsupported device might cause.
Hope that helps!
Thanks. I guess i'll have to look into the APK or switch roms :S.
I really like the rom though so i doubt il switch it. But yeah, Thanks!

If you were interested in applying a "hack" .. the android market uses the build device information found in build.prop to determine the type of device.
If you swapped out your current information with the information from the Sprint EVO 3D, the market should detect your device as the Sprint EVO 3D and allow you to download the apk.
I don't think that is the best way to approach it and personally I would side load the .apk before I modified the build.prop.
Either way, figured I'd mention the possibility so you're aware of the different avenues/options available! Hope that helps!

Since VZW and Samsung Level 2 support didn't know the answer, here is how to enable the hidden menus on the dialer screen for the Verizon GS4. Previously, there was a 'master' code that enabled the hidden menus. Now it is a filesystem based check. Boo!
Due to editing /system/build.prop and /efs/carrier/HiddenMenu you MUST be rooted. Also, you must be on a stock TouchWiz-based ROM. This will not work on CM builds/etc. At a very minimum, hiddenmenu.apk must be present on your stock device for this to work, but possibly others, so beware of ROMs that remove 'bloat' APKs.
1) Add the following line* to /system/build.prop
Code:
sys.hiddenmenu.enable=1
Edit: I noticed that after I hosed build.prop, it was replaced when I loaded the default system image, so in fact, step 1 above is not necessary, at least for the Verizon variant. This means that once you do step #2 below, the changes made to /efs/carrier/HiddenMenu will persist after an Odin restore of the NoWipe Factory Image posted here. What this means is that root is only required to make the modification, and one could revert to stock afterwards with the hidden menus enabled.
2) Change the contents of /efs/carrier/HiddenMenu from OFF to ON
3) Reboot.
4) Try it out! Go to the phone dialer and enter *#06# (show MEID) as a test.
For more codes that worked on the S3 that (may) also work on the S4, see below:
http://androidforums.com/samsung-ga...unlocking-jelly-bean-service-modes-found.html
Having the hidden menus enabled is particularly useful for those who want to disable WiFi Power Saving mode -- I was having issues with an access point at work, but sadly disabling it didn't fix the problem. Otherwise, the hidden menus are useful to test your sensors/display/etc or just looking around in general. Enjoy!
For those that are NOT rooted, there is an alternative to get to SOME of these menus, but it is not a free app (currently $1.99). It's called "Sammy S Mode". Note that I am not affiliated with the developer, I just bought it to test if the menus were present before I dug deeper into finding out how to fully enable the hidden menus on my Verizon Galaxy S4. When I have time in the next day or so, I'll try to figure out how the app calls the menus, and update the post if I find a free solution for those that are not rooted.
---
* Note: I added the "sys.hiddenmenu.enable=1" line right after the "persist.cne.feature=0" one, but I don't think it matters where you add it. Just be careful editing this file. I managed to get my phone boot-looping, probably because I used notepad to edit the file and it added Windows CR/LFs to it, and had to use the NoWipe Factory Image posted here to restore my phone. The second time around I used Root Explorer's built in text editor and it worked fine.
In case anyone is curious how I figured this out, click here.
Mods: Thanks for moving this to the development section since it fits better here.
---
I wanted to compile a list of the ones that seem useful or new in general and working for me:
*#197328640# Service Mode
*#0228# BatteryStatus
*#0*# Screen/Sensor/Vibration/Touch/Speaker/LED/etc testing -- even gives out raw values for light sensor, barometer, etc in real time
*#2263 RF Band Selection
*#66336 MDM Randump Mode (defaults to OFF)
Thanks OP! Confirmed to be working on my Verizon S4. Followed your guide with the same placement in build.prop and using root explorer.
Thanks, worked great! :thumbup:

If you were talking about the menu on the S3 that opened "HiddenMenuWifiOffload" dialing *#6335623#, this does not work on my S4. In fact, it stopped working after a software update on the S3. There is a temporary solution that is lost on reboot. I tried it and it works for me. See link below:
http://androidcommunity.com/how-to-...i-notification-on-verizon-galaxy-s-4-20130527
For anyone that needs to get to a service menu without being rooted, here is the basic idea. You'll have to get a launcher or shortcut app that supports creating shortcuts to activities.
Code:
Intent localIntent1 = new Intent("android.intent.action.MAIN");
localIntent1.putExtra("keyString", "0011");
localIntent1.setClassName("com.sec.android.RilServiceModeApp", "com.sec.android.RilServiceModeApp.ServiceModeApp");
startActivity(localIntent1);
I'll expand later using a free app that supports doing that when I get it to work on my end. In the meantime, here's a very simple app that can serve as a template to place the values above:
http://viralpatel.net/blogs/android-install-uninstall-shortcut-example/
Edit 1: A free app can be used to create the shortcut. It is called Manual Intent Shortcuts.

I should note that this only works if you're running a stock ROM. If you're running CM or some other non-TouchWiz ROM or missing hiddenmenu.apk this won't work. I have added this to the OP.

The only thing I can think of is perhaps there is a space in the /efs/carrier/HiddenMenu file that is failing the code check. It is an exact match:
Code:
if (new File(this.HIDDENMENU_ENABLE_PATH).exists())
try
{
String str = read(this.HIDDENMENU_ENABLE_PATH);
if (str.equals("ON"))
return true;
You can also issue the command when USB debugging is set/connected to PC:
Code:
adb shell getprop sys.hiddenmenu.enable
or
Code:
getprop sys.hiddenmenu.enable
from a terminal emulator app on your phone to verify that the property is set correctly. Either command should return the value input -- 1 in this case.
I'll see if I make a recovery flashable update.zip to make it easier for everyone.

getprop sys.hiddenmenu.enable
from a terminal emulator app on your phone to verify that the property is set correctly. Either command should return the value input -- 1 in this case.
I'll see if I make a recovery flashable update.zip to make it easier for everyone.

I ran the "getprop sys.hiddenmenu.enable" line in terminal emulator and it came back with a value of "1".
Also, if it's any help, the *#06# code works. A few others work too. Just can't get the hidden menu *#26337# (*#codes#)

Oh, duh, haha. That's my fault. That was just an example of the format of the codes. There is no *#CODES# menu. :facepalm: I removed that from the OP. Sorry for the confusion, and thanks for testing/helping me clarify my post
The Service Mode Main Menu code is: *#197328640#.

Ha, That sure it makes it easy to remember now
Can anyone else share their service mode setting (*#197328640#) under sim information, check nv, band pref? Mine says unexpected value.
Trying to figure out if my sim is borked and causing 4g slowness.

Mine says the same and no 4g issues here either. If you have another phone handy that you can swap sims, that would be one way to test. *#2263 has band preference settings, but I haven't touched mine and don't plan to just in case, want to avoid resetting to stock and re-rooting/going back to recovery if the phone doesn't like some setting I picked there.

You're in the wrong forum. That's for htc phones. And I would download it free from the play store.

I had the same problem, and after searching for a while I found the legal copy. Folllow these steps :
1. On your PC , go to cdmaflasher.com/Downloads/index.php
2. Download CDMA Flasher Installer and run it
3. It will now prompt you for a username and password
4. The default username & password for the free trial version is as follows : username : remotesquad password: remotesquad
5. It should now log you into the Remote Squad Dealer Flashing, that's it for the PC part
6. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT !!! Connect your phone to the same WiFi network your PC is connected on
7. From the phone browser, go to tools.flashingtools.com
8. Select the first option, which is the Android MSL Reader and it will download it to your phone
9. Once it's installed, open the app and click read SPC and voila
I've tried it on the S3 and the S4 and it works !!! Just make sure the remote squad dealer flashing program is running on the PC and the phone is connected to same WiFi network as the PC.
I hope this helps
Or just call Sprint.

I hate when people always suggest "calling Sprint." It's a salt in the wound of someone who is facing a real dilemma. I mean c'mon Captain Obvious, if calling sprint were actually a viable case in his option he probably wouldn't have posted it on the forum, or used msl tool utility in the first place......smh

I'm glad that you were able to help this individual, but there are many whom want their MSLs that do not wish to contact the carrier merely out of stubbornness or some other motive unrelated to dilemmas.
I've encountered this on these forums; thus my response.
And it was neither my intent to rub salt in wounds, nor to make assumptions of another's. If you, @rbrown24, choose to assume otherwise, I can't prevent it. But I'd suggest that it'd be more polite to not assume mine, sir.
I hope this clarifies.
