brick??? - Galaxy S III Q&A, (US Carriers)

ok i am stuck at the samsung boot screen, but nothing works ( i mean i have CWM and ODIN) but when i flash it just gets stuck ( not during flashing but at the samsung screen where it is blue and white, also the blue LED in on at the top)! also it has not booted long enough for adb to work so i cant pull a logcat
also i cant restore a nandroid because every time it tries to restore data it says error restoring /data!
to anyone who is rooted, can you go to /dev/block/by name/ scroll down and tell me what the last one was (sprint) ( i dont remember the name of the folder but there should be two and one of them is about name and the other a about number)

What do you mean you need a pit file??
Didn't you have one to begin with?
What exactly did you Odin then?
What carrier are you with?
On my S2 when I brought it back to stock after using Odin it got stuck on the Samsung logo.
I had to go to stock recovery and do a factory reset and that helped.
It booted after that.
Try it.

As long as you can get in downloadmode you`re oke. Look om www.sammobile.com/firmware for the stock rom you need (country or region you live in) and flash it with Odin. See item 3 in my signature for a detailled tutorial how to do that. You might need a jig however, but try getting in downloadmode manualy for now.

I have a similar problem
My S3 does not work after I root it, please give me a instruction link to recuse it. Thanks.
I tried flashing (Odin v3.04) the official 4.1.1 after trying the official 4.1.2 and now neither of them work. I am constantly stuck at the "SAMSUNG" logo boot stage.
I can enter download mode fine and also recovery mode but I am stumped on what to do to fix the problem.
Does anyone have a fix?

Having the same problem, after flashing stuck at samsung logo...cant but into recovery to do dalvik or anything else but can access download fine.I need to use my phone so replies are apprecciated :l.
Edit: Found more updated version of stock firmware from sammobile, will try that tomorrow and post results.I hope this works, though the problem may be because I cant wipe the dalvik or data because I cant access recovery, I was previously running cm10.1 nightlies and trying to get back to stock.

GT-i9300 stuck at the startup logo
Hi Guys
My GS3 is stuck at the boot logo. I've read and done all but with no luck,
First problem:
EFS error:
"Fake IMEI (usually 004999010640000)
Not registered to network
Fake Serial Number (usually 0000000)"
Now: stuck on boot logo.
I followed the forum for GT-i9500 thinking this would resolve my efs error. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2392632
I did the following:
1. installed PhoeniX.ROM.EFS.Backup.S4
2. Extracted the efs backup tar file & created a folder in the root called efsbackup & copied all extracted files to it.
3. Used Root Explorer to copy all files to the efs main folder. overwriting all.
4. Used the terminal:
su
busybox chown 1001:1001 /efs/nv_data.bin
busybox chmod 06755 /efs/nv_data.bin
5. rebooted.
nothing happened I was still stuck with the efs error
Now I entered safe mode, and nothing i could do, used the hold power button + restart.
now I'm in my second problem, stuck at the boot logo.
I can go to recovery & download mode....
Please help, i really need it hey

I realize it's Saturday, July 26, 2014 - But I had this exact same problem a moment ago; I got out of it by flashing a different recovery with Odin v3.09. I've got soft bricked staring down "Recovery Booting" and that's it. I had download mode available, so went to CWM 6.0.4.5 from TWRP 2.7.1.0. I must admit I thought flashing my HTC Titan I via Goldcard was hard, but this is ridiculous which my SG3 has presented just to get something other than Android Recovery 3e. I got Knox disabled, the device rooted despite being 4.3, but it begs the question what's the point of updating to 4.4.x if going backwards becomes an act of God doing it. Update: Another attempt did not fix the booting problem; however it is a solution to get out of the recovery booting and boot into a normal startup and back to your phone being usable from whatever launcher you use (Nova in my case) It will return to normal startup once you do this if it becomes necessary to do so, which is a bit of a sigh of relief. I'm about at wit's end. One problem gets solved but the moment I ran Towelroot which really worked, new issues keep popping up. Is there a way to look at the bootloader or what OS update created this Knox monstrosity and made our lives much harder than it has to be. I don't mean to sound like I'm asking a stupid question but is there an apk or a procedure within whatever flavor recovery we use that will perform the equivalent of the Task29 we use to perform on the HD2, something that will wipe these devices down to their baby butts and start over; thanks?
Hey visit link sure it will work for you.

[Q] Would this method work?

I have a couple more questions.
1.) I have the brick bug, right?
2.) Flashing a safe kernel and then restoring the backup won't help either I presume?
3.) Would flashing the PIT file from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26428986&postcount=1 solve my problem?
thx in advance
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi everyone
first of all, this is my first post so if i posted in the wrong section i am sorry
now here's my problem:
i have a Galaxy S2 (GT-I9100) with rooted stock ICS 4.0.4. I wanted to restore a backup which I created using the Nandroid Backup app on the same day. So i went into recovery mode, flashed a temporary CWM (from this thread http://http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2327472) then restored the backup from my SD card. if i remember correctly, if the restoration of the backup was succesful the phone should stay in CWM. In my case the screen went black for a few seconds then it looked like it would boot. However it just got stuck showing the Samsung logo with model number, so Samsung Galaxy S II GT-I9100.
I can still enter recovery and download mode. I did a factory reset, wiped cache partition and even re-flashed the stock ROM using odin but to no avail. After flashing the ROM, it didn't work so i did a factory reset again. It still got stuck on the logo so i went into recovery again. In recovery mode it says "E: failed to mount /sytsem (invalid arguement)". i could solve that problem by reflashing the ROM though.
does anybody know what caused this and even more imortantly, how to solve my issue?
On a side note, could be relevant, my phone just froze all of a sudden some times in the past months. i had to reboot my phone everytime it froze
Thx in advance
EDIT: ok, i've re-flashed the ROM again with odin. at first there is the green droid and the blue loading bar right below, but after a few seconds the screen goes black again and it tries to boot and gets stuck. I pulled battery, reinserted it and went into recovery, wiped cache. when i select "reboot" from the menu it says "E: failed to mount /sytsem (invalid arguement)"
Edit2: after flashing the ROM i get this "E: failed to mount /data (invalid arguement)" when rebooting over recovery. I've found a thread where it says i need to flash the dbdata.rfs.tar using odin. i will try that now
Edit3: when i try to flash the file i get a "NAND write start" "fail" error. I've been to a store that will take care of my problem.

Unsure of why your still on ics but below is a link to get a safe kernal where brick bug has been fixed. Make sure you get the kernal for your build.

TBH, I was aware that there was a brick bug but I thought i wouldn't be affected :silly:
And I was happy with ICS so I didn't upgrade. Also there is an app that currently only works on 4.0 or lower, so I didn't bother with upgrading.
the technicians of the store weren't able to repair it. i guess i have the brickbug :crying:

You have corrupted one or more partitions, try a factory reset after flashing your custom rom again.
If that doesn't work then use Odin to flash a stock firmware, then factory reset.

Means you screwed the efs partition when flashing an incompatible modem with your efs version.
If you flashed a 4.1.2 firmware and got that error, try and flash a mg4 or above modem to see if it gets solved. Or flash a 4.3 firmware altogether.
Read rootSU post on efs, it's a must.
Of you ever backed up your efs or used twrp recovery to make a nandroid backup (which also backs up efs) you might get it back by restoring it.
Otherwise, a patched kernel, modem or ariza patch would be the last available choice before sending to repair.

I mean, go to the stickies in the general section and read. They're there for a reason, including steps before rooting, flashing, information on the efs partition, and pretty much everything else you could have done to avoid the situation you're facing right now.

Ace is soft-bricked, can't mount /data

Hey guys, I got a Galaxy Ace from my friend (he got a new phone and this one wasn't working, so he gave it to me), and now I'm trying to fix it. But seems like this little guy will be hard to fix.
You turn it up, the logo screen show up and the boot animation starts. Shortly after, the animation will hang and will start over. I've tried booting it in recovery mode and wiping data/cache, but I get two messages when I reboot:
E:failed to mount /data (Invalid argument)
E:copy_log_files_to_data :: can't mount /dataRebooting
Any idea about how should I try fixing it?
Edit: recorded a small video, so you can have a general idea of it:

Sent from my GT-P3110 using XDA Free mobile app
My sister's phone had the same problem. I had used Odin successfully for my phone before, using this guide. But the same did not work for my sister's phone.
She had never rooted her phone or tweaked it in any way but suddenly one day it started bootlooping. I tried MANY guides, wiped everything, and tried a custom ROM but /data wouldn't mount. Even Odin aborted installation. I left it as a lost cause for 2 months.
Today I completely uninstalled and reinstalled Kies, installed the USB drivers and tried this guide, and used "Open Austrailia". I used Odin with pit. Somehow it worked!
Re-partition was ticked and I used the bootloader as well. Just follow the video, even if it's not your country's firmware.

My sister's phone had the same problem. I had used Odin successfully for my phone before, using this guide. But the same did not work for my sister's phone.

I've tried your suggestion, and it worked perfectly!
After flashing the Open Australia firmware, I've download the brazilian one, repacked and flashed. Now it's all back to the normal!
Thank you very much

Boot loop
My GT-S5830i is stuck in the boot loop.
When booted into Android system recovery, it fails to wipe data/factory reset with
E:format_volume:rfs format failed on /dev/stI11
It won't boot into download mode.
Can it be fixed with an update via sdcard ?
Failing that, does anybody want it for spares !!!

Stuck on logo S3 after flash stock ROM via odin

I have an S3 here that seems to be softbricked. It loads and stays in the samsung S3 logo. I tried to wipe cache and reboot. same thing. I then proceeded to restore Stock ROM via odin, it seemed to be successful but it is still stuck on the logo. Any ideas?

yes I did factory reset. I had used a hong kong version of the stock firmware. I am not sure if they are interchangeable with my phone (it is from philippines) but there was not philippines available in sammobile.
Do any error messages show up when you enter stock recovery? When my phone was softbricked I got a message saying something about how the efs couldn't be mounted.

Have you ever flashed a custom kernel?

Never tried that before. I only usually flash custom (rooted) ROM via CWM.

Ah, I was just wondering since some custom kernels back up your efs for you. Have a look through your phone's internal and external sd for anything called efs.tar.gz anyway. If you can't find anything like that then you might have to do this http://zidroid.com/how-to-fix-failed-to-mount-efs-for-galaxy-s3-gt-i9300/ . I'm not sure what your IMEI will be like after that though. When I did it on my phone it stayed functional but yours could be different.

I was going to try to check myself, but now I seem to have a different problem. I go into download mode, but the PC nor odin detect the phone anymore.. This was after I flashed stock ROM via odin.
