My Phone is bricked what to do? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
my friend's Galaxy S II is hard bricked, he tried to install this official firmware "I9100XXLPQ_I9100OXALPQ_XEO.ASD.BFMV" via ODIN but HE FORGOT TO TICK THE USB DEBUGGING FIRST!
I tried to follow this troubleshooting thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1457458) but it simply didn't work, I tried to flash the attached firmware but it Failed! I tried to flash the kernel (XXLPH) and it succeded then the thread says to install the firmware again after then but it also failed! the last solution in the thread was to flash the bootloader as either PDA or bootloader but it failed in both solutions, now I'm stuck and I can't boot the firmware nor access the Recovery mode, I only can access the download mode with the familiar default interface or another interface showing computer to mobile connection picture.
Please help, my friend can't use his phone, it all started when he forget to tick the USB Debugging button, waiting for your helpful answers, can I fix it at home or should I return it to Samsung support center? if I have to do this how much does it cost because he bought it from another country and the warrenty isn't international.
Thanks in advance

If you can get into download mode or have the PC/phone/exclamation mark on the screen (forced download mode), find a stock rom @ Samfirmware.com & flash it following the instructions here. If you end up with a .dll file as well with the Samfirmware download, bin that file; you don't need it.

It was part of the troubleshooting I already tried the firmware "I9100_CODE_I9100XXLPH_CL118559_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5" and the other 3 files odem, csc, apboot) and it failed, I also installed the kernel then tried the firmware again but it failed! it happens because the usb debugging is disabled, how to override this and fix the phone!

Download a single package from here & try that. If it doesn't work either user error or phone is borked; service centre job if that's the case.
How much will it cost to be repaired ? That will be variable according to country, etc; nobody here will be able to answer that unless A) they work for Samsung in your country or whomever does repairs for them in your country or B) someone on XDA in your country has also had a similar repair done.
In other words, nobody here is likely to know. Send it into them, and if the cost sounds excessive, maybe see if it can be JTAG repaired by a non-Samsung repairer (there are lots all around the world; do a Google search).

Then what's the difference if I downloaded the latest firmware:
18/05/2012 4.0.3 Unbranded XWLPF XXLPX OXILP6
will it install or get failed because USB debuggging is disabled? I don't want to download 366 MB for nothing are you sure it's gonna work?
Thanks a lot of caring

OK. You've got me on a good night, normally I'd ignore posts like your last one. But, anyhoo...
Try it & find out. You don't have any other options right now, let's face it. Do you ? Download the rom, flash it in the PDA section of Odin & pray it works. If it doesn't, you're out of luck - send it to Samsung/authorised repairer, a local mobile repair shop or a JTAG repairer outside your country.
Those are your options. There aren't any others.

Just make sure Kies had been totally Disable/Exit. Don't even let it run in the background. Kies & Odin hate each other thus causing conflict which lead to flashing "Failed"....good luck mate

[Q] HOW to restore phone from unsuccessful flash?

Hi All,
I tried to flash my friends i9100 (it had arabic 2.3.4 firmware, but i didn't write down the exact firmware number), to I9100JPKI1 2.3.5 1 file update. But it gave "FAIL" result in ODIN. After that phone got stuck on Download screen. I removed battery and restarted the phone. And after it got stuck on the following screen (pic at the end of post)
I tried to flash it again by odin but it's not flashing (Attached pic of ODIN after unsuccessful flash below). Any ideas how to restore the phone?
it seems connectivity problem. Have you tried another USB or another USB cable?
Yes, tried different cables on different computers. The phone is booting with this phone-warning triangle-computer logo immediately. Even samsung logo is not coming before it.
Are you able to access recovery mode? If yes, try to do a full wipe.
EDIT: Try to Kill all process of Kies, and see if Odin recognize your phone
No, it's stuck on this screen. i can't put it in Download mode. Even if i start it: Volume Down+Home+Power this screen is coming.
ODIN can't recognize the phone.
Ouch, I see repartition and a PIT file, that usually means the phone is really dead; a job for the service centre.
Which guide did you use?

On the first flashing (after which it became like this) i didn't do repartitioning and didn't use PIT file. Just selected PDA file.

I didn't see that...maybe only service center can do this job
I tried to follow following guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1108499.
Did
1) Turn off your phone. Unplug it from your computer etc
2) Hold down home, power, and volume UP. This will enter recovery mode. If you are using CF-Root, you'll get CWM recovery. If not, you get stock recovery. It doesn't matter which appears.
BUT phone is not going into recovery mode.

I think that you need to leave the phone to Service Center.
The thing is that the phone was bought in another country, so there is no warranty in my country for it. That's why i'm searching for solution myself.

I had a problem weeks ago with my phone too. Tried a lot of things and nothing fix the problem. But when i was losing hope, i found the solution by myself.
My problem was only IMEI number and i recovered it. I think that your best choice is read a lot before take some decision. And the most recommended choice is leave the phone to Service center.
Good luck!
Maybe JIG will be useful to put the phone into DOWNLOAD mode?
P.S. : I am keeping going to Service Centre options as a last resort.
If there is any way to get Odin to recognize your phone there is still hope. Try to get into download mode in all possible ways, sometimes it seems lost but suddenly you get in. Make sure Kies is not running in the background.
If you cannot get into download mode, even with a jig, and Odin never recognizes the phone, it is a job for service centre or JTAG or something, but not yourself.

That messed up your phone dude.. Can you still put your phone into download mode?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Finally, Alhamdulillah, i solved my problem of i9100g flashed with i9100 firmware. First to go out from "phone - yellow label - computer" mark i flashed it with i9100g original kernel Kernel_I9100GDZKI1 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1276105&page=3. after that it became possible to put the phone into download mode. after that i flashed it with ODIN USING PIT FILE FOR OMAP4 from the same forum and with i9100G new firmware. and that's all, phone is working again.

SGS2 doesn't turn on after disconnecting while flashing with Odin! HELLP!!

Hi guys,
I really need your help !!!
This is the story:
I tried to flash with odin (v3.07).
At first I checked these boxes:
1. Auto Reboot
2. F. Reset Time
3. Nand Erase all
And flashed. Until it got stuck for quite some time in "SetupConnection..."
Then I disconnected the phone and reinserted it to download mode.
I tried to flash again but know with these checked boxes:
1. Auto Reboot
2. F. Reset Time
3. Re-Partition
It got stuck again in "NAND.. " (something - I don't remember exactly)
Again I disconnected the phone.
From that moment it wouldn't turn on no matter what I did And wouldn't charge. (BTW the battery was 85% when I started everything)
I tried many (!) methods I found online: Taking the battery out / put it in the freezer for 10 mins / reinsert it while pressing ON button / ON + HOME ...
Nothing helps..
What is the problem?
Tried to specify as much as I could...
I really need your help!!!
What should I do in order for it to work again??
Thanks

So you can`t get into Download Mode?
And wait a second you put your phone in the freezer for 10 minutes???
Edit: How many parts did your firmware have? 1 part or 3 parts?
If it was a 1 part firmware (Only PDA File) and you checked Re-partition then it`s possible that you bricked your phone.
If you can`t go into Download mode then the last thing you can try is to buy a USB Jig and try get into Download mode with it. If this doen`t help then Samsung service center is probably the way to go.
I can't get it to turn on which means no download mode.
I put the battery in the freezer as I read somewhere...
I don't think I have a descent samsung service in my country. I need to check...
My firmware had 2 parts:
A .pit file and a PDA(.zip file)
why did you check re partition mate...you could have at least taken time to search for a flashing guide...

What Firmware did you flash, a link or the exact name of the Firmware would be nice.
What happens if you run Odin and then Plug your device into USB? Does Odin recognize that your phone is connected or nothing happens? If nothing happens then try to buy the USB Jig and plug it in and see if you can get into Download Mode.

True that, I heard several times that guys have bricked their phone of Re-Partition because of missing or wrong Pit File.
Never use pit and repartition with 1file rom. Repartition must be made with 3 file firmware. And of course proper .pit.

And THAT is an OMAP .pit file, which is for the I9100G.
What is your phone's actual model number? (look on the label under the battery)
You're probably looking at a JTag job at the least, or a visit to a Samsung service center... Nothing you can do if you flashed an I9100G .pit file to an I9100, or I9100T.

So you flashed an i9100G .pit file to an i9100. That completely buggers it, you can do nothing at this point, except what I said. JTag, or Samsung service center.
JTag is a service where a qualified technician solders leads from a riff box to the motherboard of your phone, to reformat the phone. This will USUALLY end up being cheaper than going to a Samsung service center.
Though, if your device is still under warranty, you could just try sending it in for warranty service and playing dumb. (i.e. not telling them you were flashing stuff)

There is a good chance you screwed up your bootloader because you inserted a wrong Pit File (I9100G Pitfile although you have a normal I9100) and checked Re-Partition.
Like ctomgee said,If the Bootloader is screwed you need someone with a so called Jtag to flash a working bootloader on your device. You can bring it to a Samsung Service Center or find someone (Maybe even here on XDA) who will do this for you.

[Q] Help needed for "???" (Hard or soft - don't know) bricked 9100g

Hello all!
Yesterday I started to 1st time flash my 9100g to presumably "original" firmware (I9100GXXLSR_I9100GXXLSP_I9100GDBTLS1_HOME.tar) with the before mentioned firmware and a PIT I've found somewhere in a forum together with 1.85 Odin (u1_02_20110310_emmc_EXT4) for that phone. Unfortunately it seems that I "killed" (Hard or Soft bricked - don't know) my phone (So far I remember I switched Nand erase by lack of attention also, but stopped before complete).
Now the phone starts only in "Phone-exclamation-PC" mode ever and ever again - even with a JIG. Odin 3 and 1.85 recognizes the phone, but don't get further than "Setup Connection". Sometimes I get a connection after I used Jig (still at that showing that exlamation screen), and can flash something, but not always. Kies doesn't get a connection.
So my questions:
1. Is it completely bricked?? (meaning: Sending to Samsung)
3. If not, how can I recover it? (I Don't know, but looks like a kernel startup problem, evtl. wrong PIT)
2. If yes, can someone tell me how much one have to pay for repair in average?
(Before that I made a complete flash/nand mem backup by su and dd of this phone on a 16GB USB Stick - can I use that somehow?)

1. It definitely looks like a Service Centre job, but I may be wrong. The "phone-exclamation-PC" is a type of download mode. So that means you only have soft brick, and not a hard one.
2. Yup, wrong PIT it is. You should be careful before flashing PIT files mate. You can try flashing stock firmwares via Odin to see if anything succeeds. But I doubt it will.
3. It is usually the cost of a new motherboard + service charges.
For better answers and guidance, you should state your issue here:

[Q] Help Pls: Odin Fail

Hi
I just can't seem to get Odin to flash my S2. I am new to android hacking but I'm no 'tech-tard'. I have read a lot the Odin related threads on here and on google and can't seem to get it to work. I'll explain what I'm trying to do and what I have done so far.
What I want to do is to setup my old S2 for my mum, she is Vietnamese and would be great to have Vietnamese Language support so that menus, etc..are in Vietnamese! I have tried some locale apps but they're very limited. So basically I want to flash the phone with a firmware which has Vietnamese.
My phone is a UK Vodafone S2 and it's fully updated. The info on the phone is as follows:
Model Number GT-I9100
Android Version 4.1.2
Baseband Version I9100BULS3
Kernel Version 3.1.31-1484249
[email protected]#3
SMP PREEMPT Tue Dec 3 20:24:29
KST 2013
Build Number JZ054K.I9100XWMS2
I have installed Kies, have got MTP drivers installed and have got samsung usb drivers installed (v1.5.33.0). I have Odin 1.85, 3.07 and 3.09. One thing to note is that I have never been able to connect to Kies even though all the drivers are installed and working as I can access the phone via windows explorer.
The firmware I've been trying to flash is I9100DXLSD_I9100OLBLSD_I9100DXLS8_HOME.tar.md5 This firmware also came with SS_DL.dll (i'm not sure what I'm suppose to do with this file)
I have tried using the original S2 usb cable, S4 usb cable, HTC usb cable and Nexus 7 usb cable. I have tried the front and rear USB ports on my pc (although have yet to try every single rear usb port)
I think I have done clean installs of Kies and the USB drivers, by using YourUninstaller to remove them and clean up the registry, reboot. Reinstalling Kies and USB drivers and rebooting again.
I've turned on USB debugging on the phone. The phone is in download mode. I start up Odin as admin, plug the phone in and Odin sees the phone and I get the messages 'Added!' and COMx where x is 3, 4 or 5. In Odin 3.07 or 3.09 when loading the firmware, the firmware is confirmed ok but when flash is started it stalls at 'SetupConnection'. I've left it for about 15 mins and still stuck there. In Odin 1.85 it's similar except I eventually get a FAIL after the SetupConnection step.
I'm not sure what else I can do, apart form try another computer. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Yeah, I've read that and followed it and still no luck.
That thread is the 'Bible' for these situations; there really isn't much else that isn't in the thread which can be suggested in these situations.
So...Your options are:-
*Try everything (you haven't done that yet) in the thread over and over and over and over until you get a successful flash. When these are recoverable (and the majority are), they're almost always fixed with perseverance.
*Give up & take your phone to a Samsung service centre (who will take a lot of your money) or a local mobile repair shop (who will charge you a bit less money) for diagnosis/repair. Obviously you're in their hands with regard to trusting them to honestly diagnose what's wrong & charge you accordingly.
The only other thing which comes to mind in this situation is an idea KeithRoss39 has bandied about recently; flash fails in this situation are sometimes caused by a malfunctioning USB board in the phone (this has become a very common fault with this phone as the time since it's initial release has increased).
Thing is, if this is indeed the case here, it's possible that your previous attempts at flashing have already corrupted the NAND, and only a motherboard replacement is fixing this. If this hasn't already happened & the board is faulty, any further flashing attempts might give you this result. But unless you know how to diagnose electronics like this, you have no way of knowing whether this is the case or not.
So, you can proceed as above, or you can stop attempting to flash right now & replace the USB board/port yourself before you attempt any further flashes. Keith has a guide in General (not stickied, there's a link in Hopper's thread) which will enable you to get this done quickly/easily/cheaply yourself if you decide to go down this path.

I don't think the USB board is faulty. It charges fine and I can access the phone via windows explorer, transferring and copying files.
You try uninstall all drivers (kies and samsung usb) ,and install again only a usb drivers (without kies).

Didn't bother to read the OP, eh ?
Download Odin v3.07 And Connect your phone to pc using download mode. ( Power + Vol. D + Home ). And in odin click pda and choose ur downloaded tar file. Just let it flash. And see. Try Splitting that .tar file to CSC, PDA, MODEM using splitfus. Check google for further help.
Hit thanks if I helped you

I'll give that a shot.
Been reading about the default recovery console. Is it possible to flash the vietnamese 4.1.2 firmware over my uk 4.1.2 firmware using ADB? From what I've ready you could transfer the firmware to a memory card and use the apply update from external storage? Is this correct or would would it have to be done via ADB sideload from the SDK?
Thanks
Can't be done with stock on the S2 to the best of my knowledge (can with some other phones).

Will Samsung repair my phone? :(

Will Samsung be able to fix my Galaxy S3?
I was trying to bring the phone back to stock ROM and ODIN failed on me.
I tried pretty much everything and Odin would keep on failing. I tried to emergency recover it in kies but Kies would say, "connecting" and never connect. Thinking this is a USB Driver issue, I took it to Samsung Experience store to get it repaired. However, they could not restore it.
(***** THE PHONE WOULD GO INTO DOWNLOAD MODE but NOT the Recovery mode.*****)
So the phone turns on but can't go into recovery mode but CAN go into download mode. Odin just screws up on me. (Is this a soft brick?)
So the guys at the Samsung Experience store asked me to send it to Samsung to get it repaired. So I called the Samsung guys and he told me that "Reflashing the phone" is free of charge (even though my phone is out of warranty btw). But I'm worried that "reflashing" is the same thing they tried at the Experience store. So I'm thinking they would try the same thing the guys at the Experience store and fail.(Then charge me to do some other option.)
So the question is,
1)Would they be able to restore my phone without having to do an expensive method?(replace motherboard or something)
2) Will they still do the repair? (My phone was rooted but I heard the root record gets deleted when you try to put a ROM through ODIN)
3)I still want to fix my phone even if it costs money. So how much do you expect the repair fee would cost if they cannot recover by software means?
4)How long would this repair take in general? I need this phone ASAP
Man this sucks..... I bought this phone for 200 dollars at Textnow like a month ... It would definitely cost less money to repair than 200 bucks right?
Dont worry, thats not a hardware problem.
:good::good::good:
1. Yes, they will be able to fix it. I hope you aren't in the USA, because you'll have to ship it out of the contedent. I could fix your phone. It's not very hard.
2. Root will be wiped, but when you reboot into Download mode, it shows that the phone has been rooted. Depending on what area you are in, your warranty may not be honored.
3. Depends on how bad it is, but at most, $500 for a new motherbaord, (since samsung rapes you)
4. It will be fixed within 3 weeks.
5. If you're willing to insure, and pay shipping both ways, I'll do it for free. Short of a hardware issue, I can (and will), fix it. I'll restore it to the latest 4.3 firmware, and send it back. No charge if your phone is already unlocked.
Did you try any other version of odin or check your download .. try to download again.. maybe your file is currupt?
Please quote me and let me know what happens

I had a similar issue and in the end replace my phone
Before goign to samsung to this:
1. Change usb cable/port.
2. Check the downloaded file.
3. Download another firmware and try it. Somethimes some firmwares are bigger than others and need a pit file
4. Or in samsung kies press emergency recovery. Enter your device model number and serial number and samsung kies will tell you which firmware it came with and you should flash that firmware and download it from sammobile.com
I suggest going to step number 4 for a quick fix.

Hey, I've already sent it to Samsung and I've already tried all the steps but they didn't work. ._.
Odin failed and Kies would not connect my device, so emergency recovery didn't work.
But, could you give me any idea if they can fix it without replacing anything physical? (I'm just worried I'll have to pay **** ton of money trying to fix the phone.)
Just to remind, the phone does get to download mode. So, they will PROBABLY fix it without replacing anything right?
PROBABLY not 100% right?
Thanks anyways.
