Will Samsung repair my phone? :( - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Will Samsung be able to fix my Galaxy S3?
I was trying to bring the phone back to stock ROM and ODIN failed on me.
I tried pretty much everything and Odin would keep on failing. I tried to emergency recover it in kies but Kies would say, "connecting" and never connect. Thinking this is a USB Driver issue, I took it to Samsung Experience store to get it repaired. However, they could not restore it.
(***** THE PHONE WOULD GO INTO DOWNLOAD MODE but NOT the Recovery mode.*****)
So the phone turns on but can't go into recovery mode but CAN go into download mode. Odin just screws up on me. (Is this a soft brick?)
So the guys at the Samsung Experience store asked me to send it to Samsung to get it repaired. So I called the Samsung guys and he told me that "Reflashing the phone" is free of charge (even though my phone is out of warranty btw). But I'm worried that "reflashing" is the same thing they tried at the Experience store. So I'm thinking they would try the same thing the guys at the Experience store and fail.(Then charge me to do some other option.)
So the question is,
1)Would they be able to restore my phone without having to do an expensive method?(replace motherboard or something)
2) Will they still do the repair? (My phone was rooted but I heard the root record gets deleted when you try to put a ROM through ODIN)
3)I still want to fix my phone even if it costs money. So how much do you expect the repair fee would cost if they cannot recover by software means?
4)How long would this repair take in general? I need this phone ASAP
Man this sucks..... I bought this phone for 200 dollars at Textnow like a month ... It would definitely cost less money to repair than 200 bucks right?

Dont worry, thats not a hardware problem.
:good::good::good:

1. Yes, they will be able to fix it. I hope you aren't in the USA, because you'll have to ship it out of the contedent. I could fix your phone. It's not very hard.
2. Root will be wiped, but when you reboot into Download mode, it shows that the phone has been rooted. Depending on what area you are in, your warranty may not be honored.
3. Depends on how bad it is, but at most, $500 for a new motherbaord, (since samsung rapes you)
4. It will be fixed within 3 weeks.
5. If you're willing to insure, and pay shipping both ways, I'll do it for free. Short of a hardware issue, I can (and will), fix it. I'll restore it to the latest 4.3 firmware, and send it back. No charge if your phone is already unlocked.

Did you try any other version of odin or check your download .. try to download again.. maybe your file is currupt?
Please quote me and let me know what happens

I had a similar issue and in the end replace my phone

Before goign to samsung to this:
1. Change usb cable/port.
2. Check the downloaded file.
3. Download another firmware and try it. Somethimes some firmwares are bigger than others and need a pit file
4. Or in samsung kies press emergency recovery. Enter your device model number and serial number and samsung kies will tell you which firmware it came with and you should flash that firmware and download it from sammobile.com
I suggest going to step number 4 for a quick fix.

Hey, I've already sent it to Samsung and I've already tried all the steps but they didn't work. ._.
Odin failed and Kies would not connect my device, so emergency recovery didn't work.
But, could you give me any idea if they can fix it without replacing anything physical? (I'm just worried I'll have to pay **** ton of money trying to fix the phone.)
Just to remind, the phone does get to download mode. So, they will PROBABLY fix it without replacing anything right?
PROBABLY not 100% right?
Thanks anyways.

[Q] Galaxy SII almost bricked please help.

I have a problem with Galaxy s2. Basically it started to drain my battery like hell.
It gets empty in about 10 hours.
Now when I want to flash the phone once again in order to get everything back as it was when I bought it I cannot. This is due to MTP connection activating itself as soon as I turn on the phone. And I cannot enable usb debugging due to that as it says that I have to remove the USB cable.
In addition my phone charges itself really fast about 2 hours. And when I try to power it on without charger plugged in it gives me charging image and yellow triangle with ! in it and thermometer aside flickering. Does anyone have any ideas how to fix my phone?
Have you tried using CWM to wipe all data + clear all cache, then do a fresh re-install?
Yes I tried it now. It still says my USB is connected when its not. And now it doesnt unlock my sim card.
Factory reset that dont work return phone to a service centre ..

Well thats the case I have voided warranty already. Wondering if there are any chances I could put old rom back before returning it?
Make a DIY USB JIG then flash it back to stock rom and have it checked.

Not sure what do you mean by DIY USB JIG but I cannot flash it because I cannot switch USB debugging on... Thats the case it shows me that USB is always connected when it isnt and when USB is connected it doesnt let to switch on USB debugging.
Route is source stock rom and Odin load stock rom into Odin enter download mode on phone and then connect cable and flash rom .
No download mode

Thank you all who have replied. I have now managed to get over the USB issue somehow but still something is wrong either with battery sensor or battery. When I power off my phone it switches on automatically and shows the thermometer and battery charge icon. Anyone else have had this problem? It also charges up to 95% and it bursts to 100% very quickly.
EDIT: Now I tried my friends battery and I did not get the flickering temp error and my friend didnt get it with my battery as well. So something now I'm totally out of ideas.
Service centre .

I am having the same issues here, wonder if the topic creator resolved this in any way? I am thinking of getting a new battery?
Just FYI wear a condom or something on your galaxy S II. As it turns out from service my phone supposedly has liquid damage which does not the warranty apply. I have to pay 240 euros in order to get it fixed :S
Hey Guys.
I had an S1 7 months prior to buying the S2, and have upgraded/fresh installed ROMS many many times over the past year. Once the S1 bricked during an upgrade and I was able to get it into Download Mode without using a micro-USB jig from instructions on this website. If my memory serves me correctly, it was a procedure something fairly simple like hold the Home, Volume Up and Power buttons continuously until the phone goes into forced Download Mode.
However, this procedure doesn't work with the S2 or I'm remembering it incorrectly, and I'm unable to find that instruction webpage again. Now my S2 is almost bricked showing a message I've not seen before, "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again."
So far, I cannot get past this message and Kies 2.0.2.11071_128 doesn't recognize the device nor that emergency recovery is needed.
Unfortunately Samsung programmers haven't been quite smart enough or forward thinking enough to make Kies work from behind a proxy which requires authentication (I live and work on a university campus and the only way to the internet is via proxy and authentication) and it has never shown in the past 9 months of usage that it needs to update itself nor finds any official ROM releases. Therefore I've been forced to use Odin and ROMs from here or samfirmware.com for my updates. Until now, there has never been any major problems that I couldn't get around.
Do any of you have instructions on how I can get my S2 into download mode so as to get Odin to recognize the device? It is not possible for me to make my own JIG here in Thailand as there is nowhere for me to go purchase electronic equipment and parts such as soldering irons and resistors. I am a computer engineer and could easily build such if it were possible to get needed parts.
Thanks hugely in advance for any help offered.
Just order a high from ebay

Well kiss my rosy red butt-cheeks! Speaking from personal experience as tech support, I know empirically to replicate something 52 times prior to asking for assistance. This instance shouldn't have been an exception!
Directly after posting this request for assistance, I decided to try Odin once again and DANGED if this time it found my device even with the "Firmware encountered" error showing. Odin stopped around 90% and forced me to reset my S2, but this time it went right into Download mode with nary a fuss. Now Odin just successfully installed KG6.
So if there is anything to be learned from this experience, either by other users with similar issues or myself, it is "if at 1st you don't succeed, try again and again and again and again."

[Q] Please help me!

I have a GT-I9100M that is refusing to turn on. My computer cannot even tell when the phone is plugged into it.
I was following the guide located at
dropbox.com/s/6oiqm8909pwg6qt/For%20i9100G%20users%20only.pdf
to try to update my phone. I was using the Odin method with the 2 files linked under "using odin" on the first page of the guide.
Odin said something to the effect of "FAIL". I tried again, but ODIN got stuck, so after a while I unplugged my phone from the computer.
Now I cannot get a response from the phone at all. I have tried pressing power, holding vol.down+home+power, removing the battery. Even when I connect the phone to my computer, I get no response (My computer doesn't even recognize that the phone is plugged in).
Are there any steps that can be taken? Should I contact Samsung? I read something about a USB JIG... would one of those help? Is this a "hard brick"?
I am in Waterloo, Canada (it's near Toronto). If there are no other options, can anyone recommend a trusted repair service?
Thank you in advance and sorry if I am replicating an already existing thread! I searched and searched, but tbh I'm pretty worked up atm, so I may have missed it.
EDIT: On closer inspection, it seems the file I tried to upgrade with was for I9100G, whereas I have I9100M. I'm guessing this is the source of the problem?

Yes that was the source of the problem ...
Do you see phone connected in ODIN.. That is COM section turning Yellow ???
No, Odin can't see the phone
Bottom line is, if you can't get into download mode (vol down/home/power), your next best (very faint) chance is a jig. If that fails, you'll need to have a JTAG repair done, or return it to your telco/Samsung for repair.
The JTAG repair may well turn out to be the cheaper option given there's a pretty good chance Samsung will charge you to repair it, as using non-stock firmware on the phone voids your warranty.

Hi
If odin can not see your phone means you are not in download mode.
also you can use "Download Mode JIG" to put your phone in download mode if its not bricked. you can buy online.
Also you can make it @ home if you know about how to.

As you have said you can not even go into download mode or Recovery mode
do what @MistahBungle has Said ...
USB Jig is your first Option.. If you have one ...
Okay, thank you for sharing your expertise!
Would anyone happen to know if this site mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/samsung-galaxy-s-ii-jtag-brick-repair/
is reputable? $75 to get me out of this mess isn't toooo bad.
Also, any tips for approaching Samsung? I'd like to be honest with them, of course, but if there's a chance that they won't be able to tell what I've done, I might just say "it when dark when I tried to update it".
I'm with Rogers, but I bought the phone off Kijiji. I doubt they would help me...
Anyway, thanks again!

Listen if the phone is still under warranty you can try approaching the samaung service centre and tell them that the phone suddenly switched off while using and then refused to switch on..
Since the phone cant be booted even to the download mode, they wont be able to check the binary counter so..
They might fix it for you or maybe if you are lucky they may get you a replacement!
I had a similar problem and they fixed it for me..

[Q] Managed to hardbrick my phone

Dear forum members,
I have scoured google for assistance, and nothing seems to work.
I short, this is what happened. I downloaded Heimdall in order to flash my Galaxy S2 with an original Samsung rom to get rid of my operators bloatware. I downloaded a pre-packed gingerbread heimdal package and set to work. Because my phone PIT did not match the one in the package, Heimdall would not continue without a repartition. I checked the repartition, Heimdall connected to the phone and started transferring the PIT file. Here is where it went wrong. I got an error message stating: Error: "failed to confirm end of PIT file transfer". I tried again but this time, Heimdall could not connect to the phone. I pulled out the phone and tried to reboot, but to no avail. I cannot enter download or recovery mode, the phone doesn't react to being plugged into the charger, although it does get a little hot. My guess is I screwed up the partition table - how to I fix this problem??? Please help!!
Although you used Heimdall, it is always recommended not to touch PIT and repartition with Odin so the same should apply.
To confirm, you have the i9100 correct? Not the USA Tmobile or ATT SGS2? If a USB jig wont get you into download mode, you will have to send the phone to samsung for repair and it will be fairly expensive.
My learned colleague Kaze is correct (as per usual ).
Sadly, if you are unable to get into download mode via the a three button reboot or with a jig, you will need to have the phone JTAG repaired by a 3rd party repairer (probably cheaper option) or Samsung (probably more expensive option).
Yes I have the i9100. This is bad news! I've ordered a jig and I'll see if that works. If not, I'll try and return the phone. I haven't rooted it before so there will be no counts on the rom counter.
Great... another one that didin't do his homework before flashing stuff. Honestly, you guys must be made of money or at least growing money trees in the garden. I'd die of shame if I ever did something like this to my £400 device...
The JIG probably won't work, you have to send it into Samsung or buy a JTAG box and fix it yourself.

Bricked Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G (Sprint)

I rooted my Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G and then decided to unroot it. I was using Odin3 v1.85 and about half way through it failed and the phone restarted. Instead of booting into the OS is just displayed a message saying
Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again

. When I put it into Downloaded Mode it says
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: GT-i9100
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: YES (1 counts)
CURRENT BINARY: SAMSUNG OFFICIAL
Click to collapse
And when I plug it in to to my computer to try to unroot it again, it would not recognize the phone, it did not appear in device manager. I tried two different cables, two different computers, and re-installed the drivers.
At this point I think it would be very difficult to repair the phone (but if someone knows how that would be useful).
So my real question is, will Sprint know I rooted the phone? I pay $8 a month for warranty, can I get it replaced or will they see I have tampered with it and make me buy a new phone.
Find and install the original drivers mayhaps. If that can get your PC to recognize your phone it should be all good. Just a shot in the dark here.
I brought it in to a Sprint Store with a repair center and they fixed it no problem. Though I bricked it again and we did a direct exchange as per the insurance. I doubt they knew the phone was rooted. If they did; they didn't care.
Sprint won't know nor care. I brought mine in on CM9 before...
Warning though: I am unfamiliar with the tep terms but this may be considered fraud. My phone had a hardware issue so it was not.

My Phone is bricked what to do?

Hi,
my friend's Galaxy S II is hard bricked, he tried to install this official firmware "I9100XXLPQ_I9100OXALPQ_XEO.ASD.BFMV" via ODIN but HE FORGOT TO TICK THE USB DEBUGGING FIRST!
I tried to follow this troubleshooting thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1457458) but it simply didn't work, I tried to flash the attached firmware but it Failed! I tried to flash the kernel (XXLPH) and it succeded then the thread says to install the firmware again after then but it also failed! the last solution in the thread was to flash the bootloader as either PDA or bootloader but it failed in both solutions, now I'm stuck and I can't boot the firmware nor access the Recovery mode, I only can access the download mode with the familiar default interface or another interface showing computer to mobile connection picture.
Please help, my friend can't use his phone, it all started when he forget to tick the USB Debugging button, waiting for your helpful answers, can I fix it at home or should I return it to Samsung support center? if I have to do this how much does it cost because he bought it from another country and the warrenty isn't international.
Thanks in advance
If you can get into download mode or have the PC/phone/exclamation mark on the screen (forced download mode), find a stock rom @ Samfirmware.com & flash it following the instructions here. If you end up with a .dll file as well with the Samfirmware download, bin that file; you don't need it.

It was part of the troubleshooting I already tried the firmware "I9100_CODE_I9100XXLPH_CL118559_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5" and the other 3 files odem, csc, apboot) and it failed, I also installed the kernel then tried the firmware again but it failed! it happens because the usb debugging is disabled, how to override this and fix the phone!
Download a single package from here & try that. If it doesn't work either user error or phone is borked; service centre job if that's the case.
How much will it cost to be repaired ? That will be variable according to country, etc; nobody here will be able to answer that unless A) they work for Samsung in your country or whomever does repairs for them in your country or B) someone on XDA in your country has also had a similar repair done.
In other words, nobody here is likely to know. Send it into them, and if the cost sounds excessive, maybe see if it can be JTAG repaired by a non-Samsung repairer (there are lots all around the world; do a Google search).

Then what's the difference if I downloaded the latest firmware:
18/05/2012 4.0.3 Unbranded XWLPF XXLPX OXILP6
will it install or get failed because USB debuggging is disabled? I don't want to download 366 MB for nothing are you sure it's gonna work?
Thanks a lot of caring
OK. You've got me on a good night, normally I'd ignore posts like your last one. But, anyhoo...
Try it & find out. You don't have any other options right now, let's face it. Do you ? Download the rom, flash it in the PDA section of Odin & pray it works. If it doesn't, you're out of luck - send it to Samsung/authorised repairer, a local mobile repair shop or a JTAG repairer outside your country.
Those are your options. There aren't any others.

Just make sure Kies had been totally Disable/Exit. Don't even let it run in the background. Kies & Odin hate each other thus causing conflict which lead to flashing "Failed"....good luck mate
