So what's with the big super exciting special announcement we were supposed to get from Samsung today? Not a word. It was supposedly like a galaxy note exclusive thing or something. Just wondering.

Yep it was angry birds. Kind of lame, but it does look like a sweet waste of time and it has some exclusive note stuff going on.

You've got to be kidding? People pay a good amount of money for a device that was designated to run the latest Android OS and the big announcement is a freaking game?

Erad, I'd like to introduce you to someone "special". This is Samsung. Samsung is much like that super hot chick that you do everything it takes to hook up with. When you finally do she just lays there like a sack of potatoes. In the end you're left with something that will still impress your friends, yet leaves you with a anticlimactic feeling inside.

It was designed to run GB, that's why it was released with GB.

I knew the game was coming out. I guess I'm just surprised that that was the announcement. I thought everyone already knew about it.
Glad I asked though. Gave me the opportunity to hear the best response ever.

I know it wasn't ICS but seriously, it was a commercial for an Android application that was filmed in freaking SPACE. Yeah, it's a cross-platform app, but this was not only centered around the Android version, but featured our phones exclusively.
I'm not hearing a lot from the Apple fanboys these days, so I'd say it was a pretty big score for us, all told.

Just out of curiosity, what is soon? When you purchased the Note originally, when did you expect it to have ICS?
When I bought my Infuse it came with Froyo. It should have had GB and AT&T stalled for months only to release a broken GB update. Never did I think of returning the Infuse because of that. Now that I have the Note and it is running GB, I am fine with waiting for ICS. Because in all honesty, I will probably end up rooting the device and installing an ICS ROM well before anything comes out from AT&T. The ROMS that were available for the Infuse were awesome and if I were not eligible for an upgrade when I bought my Note, I would still be happily using that device.
I thought it would be updated fairly quickly with the potential the phone has, but at the same time nobody purchased the note to use it and all of a sudden a year later its updated. Don't get me wrong I love android and the note but I have always felt the ball is dropped when it comes to updates and pushing them out.. How is it that they are mentioning "jelly bean" when over 90% of the android devices that are out now don't even have ICS, and with the notes specs it is more than capable of running it if my nexus a could. As far as "soon", and I'm not sure, but possibly if not within my 30 day return period if I decide I don't want to keep it. More than likely I will keep it.

Fair enough, I was trying not to root it because I didn't want to increase the flash counter. I I know there's Odin but I've heard of people using it to flash the stock rom and it increasing their counter and I didn't want to run that risk.

OK, so if I'm reading this right, ICS is coming in Q2, but as part of a "Premium Suite"? The word "Premium" usually implies $$$, at least in my experience.
Maybe someone with more insight can read this and tell me what they come away with?
http://global.samsungtomorrow.com/?p=12602
I do notice that they are showing the international version in the photos, but still...
I'm new-ish to the Samsung game, at least for mobile phones, so I haven't worked out their FUD protocol yet.
Oh, and if this has already been posted/debunked/whatever, sorry for the redundancy.
You will not have to pay for it I'm sure. World Wide to me includes the US. However att has to get hold of it so that will slow things down. They say q2 so that's the end of June, but reading these forums Samsung or att have a history of not being dependable.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA
From what I understand, Samsung is using the addition of the "Premium Suite" of s-pen apps as an excuse for why ICS wasn't delivered in Q1 as they had originally promised. As far as I know, their isn't going to be an additional charge for these apps; they'll be baked into the ICS OTA.
Also, as you point out they always seem to show the international version of the phone in photos, so AFAIK it's not guaranteed that the premium suite will be included in the I717 ICS OTA.
We'll just have to be patient and wait and see...
Perhaps in this case, "premium" means some of the apps will only be available to
the note. Not much of a deal if those apps are only for use with the s-pen...
It will be interesting to see the lag of ICS updates between the international & the at&t version.

Why all the worry about premium suite as well as time lines? Whatever version/build/whatever of ICS is officially released first Im sure it will only be a matter of days, if not hours before a better, faster, and debloated, rom is available right here on XDA. So Im giving a preemptive thanks to all the devs who spend their free time making such sweet software available to all us!
Just a few questions, what roms have bln support? Is there any cm9 rom variation that supports bln?
Also, what rom is giving decent benchmarks?
Is this device even recommended at this point or wait for the s3?
I believe Saurom has the bln support but is 2.3 I think. you can always stay stock and flash Da_G's kernal that has bln support. Thats my preference until ICS is out officially and is matured a little bit. I wouldnt trade my note for a 3s at all, but that all depends on person to person. Its huge and and fast enough. If i wanted a phone under 5 in, then i would get the s3 fo sho. Size and speed balance was my factor and im am super happy with it.
I suggest two weeks of dedicated arm exercises before trying to pick up a note. It's a beast.

I'm using the Collective's (now the Family) GB ROM...which does support BLN...or the kernel they use does. Not sure on the CM9 variation though. Like stated in an above post, I plan to stay with GB until the dust settles with ICS (dust for me is an OC kernel and the Family tweaking the hell out of it).
Benchmarks wise...no idea. Not really a benchmark kind of guy. If it feels fast and does what I need it to do, then I'm good.
Get the Note if you want a 5.3" screen and plan to use it like a tablet and not a phone. By phone, I mean just making voice calls and texting. This device can do so much more and has good hardware to boot. It may not have the S4 or Exynos processor (at least in the ATT version), but it still is up there with the big dogs. You really have to embrace what this device is truly capable of. I love my Note and have no intentions of going to another device...unless it's the Note2 or a badass device with a 5.3" display.
I am definitely a cm7 rom fan as that is what kind of rom variation I use on my old inspire. I just returned the one x because att will not allow you to unlock the bootloader so we can have dev support so I returned it. I have no patience for that.
So now the note I had when it came out but returned it as well because almost no dev support, and had an issue with my screen that was annoying..just problems from first production batches I guess.
Sure att knows me for returning phones if I'm not happy and I really don't care,or I care as much as they care for their customers
With all that being said I def am the type that should wait a few weeks and see what kind of dev support the device is getting as hey isn't that the reason we all come here sort of. I miss the screen size of the note, not gonna lie. I can only imagine custom roms have improved benchmarks, and there seems to be quite a few custom roms out now including a cm9.
So Im thinking of getting this or the sgs3 but by the time it reaches att and gets dev support, I can use this.
Opinions? Thanks

Ahh you peer presurring bunch a lol. Att only puts out so many good android devices without trying to cripple them. Good chance I'll pick this up this week, just want to read a few dev threads for happy comments.
Are there any major issues I should be aware of? Oh and has battery charging times improved with new roms? That is def something that annoyed me about Samsung devices ,the time it took to charge. Forget about usb charging lol
Hi...I must say, you in a way you sound like myself. I have gone through 3 phone company's and about 6 phones within a 4 month time.. lol.. ....I will say you WILL NOT go wrong getting this phone only thing I would do first make sure you dobt have bad screen black crush on the screen that caused me to flip out laying in bed and I seen black blobs in the background of the screen....other then that...believe me this phone is so nice to have the large screen. Ill never get a smaller one and it has 1,5 ghz what more do you need? And we finally have dev support as you can see in android development section .. I think you already have answered yourself in your first question! And never even knew it...

Samsung is really pushing the screen size boundaries here, making the iphone seem more miniscule. Your thoughts?
It will probably come to AT&T 6-8 months later.
Or it's just a bad time to upgrade
im all over this when the pre-order comes up prob end of august

5.5 is too big (for me). I really like my current Note, but I did pick up a S3 (kept the Note also).
The S3 reminded me how nice it is to be able to slip a phone in my pocket and forget it is there.
At the end of the day it is a mobile phone (for me) and all of the benefits of the Note (mostly taking down customer's orders without piles of sticky notes laying around) do not out weigh the hassle of a 5.3"-5.5" bulge in my pocket.
That's just my take on it. The Note really is a nice device and they have found a great niche.
I just wont go over 5" again.
