A nandroid backup is done thru cwm (the only place I know of) when you boot into recovery (like if your flashing a rom) you'll see a section that saids "backup" that is where you conduct your nandroid backup up...once you create the back up you can restore using that backup from cwm as well. The backup pretty much copies everything on your phone, from system files to music...this is in my oppinion very important to do especially if your planning on going flash crazy like most of us. So to answer your question about switching, to the best of my knowledge if you created a backup while on GB and created a backup while on ICS than stands to reason you could toggle...but I will tell you that the restore process does take a while, after a few of them you'll be sick of it and I'm not quite sure why you'd want to toggle. I created a backup of GB when the ICS leak first came out just in case there were a lot of issues, I've experienced very few problems while running IcS so I have zero reason to ever go back to GB.

Not really... Get almost the same use with ics. Not enough difference to go back to GB.

Nandroid backup

Quick question, I searched but just want to be sure. I recently come over to ics but might want to go back to stock with root. Will doing a nandroid backup take me there if that's when I did it?

I suggest flashing UnNamed if you want a stock rom feel & look with a few extra benefits.
Also ShoStock but its more beefy with nice additions but still stock base.

I'm on ShoStock, it's not bad but it seems to get really hot & drains the battery even when plugged in when I'm playing games or watching stuff.

I am a noob and I need help :(

Hello all,
I am the proud new owner (first time android owner as well) of a Galaxy S3 SGH-1747, and I am still learning the ins and outs of the phone but so far I am loving this thing.
However, I did run into some issues when I did an install of a ROM AOKP Task & KToonsez ROM. The first major problem is that my computer will now not read my phone, whereas before it was able to register it. I know I have the correct drivers installed and I have the android usb debugging thing box checked in my settings. I have tried several different USB ports now thinking it might be that but they all do not read it. As smooth as this ROM is, it is still in the early stages and there are a lot of bugs and kinks that need to be worked out still so I would like to either switch back to the stock ROM or aim for a more stable one. I am not sure how I can do either of this without a copy of the original touchwiz ROM on there.
Please help me figure this problem out lol.
Flash your nandroid. I'm sure you made one like you're supposed to.

I did not make a back up
But ever since I installed this ROM my computer stopped reading my phone, it won't even show up on kies either. I am trying right now a factory reset and wipe but it just keeps going back to the same rom.

A factory reset won't make your phone stock man...you need to Odin the stock ROM ...(link I provided) back to your phone.

Ok, one last stupid question for you though. How would I be able to do this if my computer is not reading my phone? I have Odin installed and all that jazz but the phone will not register on the computer. Will Odin still read it even though it's not showing up under my computer?

good lord guy...
you being a n00b should really not be flashing right now, as people are losing IMEI's left and right. if i were you id sit right where you are for the time being. play it safe broseph, we wouldn't want your first foray on android to end badly :highfive:
I'm not flashing roms on my s3 yet so I'm not positive but doesn't aosp roms take the Google drivers, not the Samsung ones? I know with the captivate on cm9 I had to install them.

[Q] I deleted my efs data in the service menu

I was on CleanRom ACE 5.0 I think. Then I deleted my EFS data from within the service menu. Then I couldn't get a cell signal.
Today I flashed back to a stock I605VRAMC3 using ODIN. That didn't fix it.
Can you please point me in the right direction on how to fix this?
I've read the forum for about 3 hours and can't find the answer.
Thanks.

No, I have twrp installed on my phone, but didn't make a backup on this phone.
I don't think I have any saved backups from older phones either.
Is there a file I can copy to my phone or ADB commands to make it work?
I've seen a few posts where people ask for the EFS files, maybe there are three of them?
I don't know what the result of those requests were.
I can email you mine. Not sure of that will help. Send me a pm with your email. I'm at work now so I will send when I get home.

Thanks! I had replaced my Note 2 in December using my assurian insurance with $100 deductible. So I called them today and told 'DonTrey' what happened. He said they'd send me a new phone for free so I didn't argue.
It should get here tomorrow. Are there any issues flashing to the latest ROMs? Which one would you recommend?
Depends on what firmware is installed when you get it. If it's completely locked down then safestrap will give you root but no custom roms as of yet. I prefer meanbean but that's just my opinion. I run meanbean reborn v0.9 It's so smooth and battery life is the best. But again just my 2 cents.
Just found this for future reference

OK thanks Macasus, I might try that meanbean. Is it a 4.4 or 4.3 Touchwiz based ROM? I saw some ROMs that included some stuff from the Note 3. I might try some of them out.
I'll do some reading and find out how to tell if my new phone is completely locked down. That would suck. I'm hoping it will arrive today.
I have a week of vacation, and of course I have to deal with my phone for half of it. I'm almost ready to jump ship and get an iPhone. j/k
Izord that's not even funny lol! Glad I can help and the folks here will be just as helpful along the way I'm sure. Enjoy!
