does upgrading to official ics remove CWM recovery also, and how is would it be to go back to a CWM backup going from ICS?
Kies removes CWM and root so reinstall CWM and root. Then you can restore any backup you saved.

I want to grab some software off a stock galaxy ace from the same provider as mine. However, before I root it and install CWM, I want a way to revert it to Android system recovery <3e>. Obviously, I cannot back up the stock phone, it's unrooted and has no CWM recovery backup yet, and once I install CWM, it won't have the stock recovery anymore. Any way to get the stock system recovery?

There's no flashable zip or whatever .
All you need to do is to flash any firmware via ODIN

If u flash any stock rom ,u will get your stock recovery back =D
Where can I get a stock rom for the device, though? I can't take a backup to make my own without CWM...I assume I could learn to use Odin with a tutorial somewhere, but Odin can't take a backup, can it?
sammobile.com
Nice site. I don't suppose the Europe or Asia firmwares will work in North America, though? (Canada).
So I probably should of asked this before flashing but anyways, I flashed CWM to my tablet and I am about to flash aokp to it but I was wondering if I was going to go to back to complete stock again does it matter what stock 3.2 recovery I use to get official updates? I did make a nandroid backup so I am not to worried about getting a stock OS but its just the stock recovery that bothers me.
For the record I have a Canadian WIFI 16 gig tablet.
Official updates...? Odin is the only official update you need! :] Just so you know, you can't completely revert to stock unless it's for that specific firmware, only way to do that is by a clean flash to avoid all the un-necessary bricks and such.
Nandroid backup does not exist on stock and last I checked the recovery and CWM do the same job of "Applying update.zip" so it shouldn't matter, it's the firmware's regional value that matters, not the recovery.
So if I were to do a restore of my nandroid backup (from CWM) then that means that I would be able to get the notice that I would be able to update to the latest official firmware from Samsung no problem?
As long as you don't use Cus ROM's then yes.
Hi
I have ics and i am going to install gb kernel&rom
I will make back up in my recovery now .. When i install the new gb kernel & rom can i restore all thing or i need to flash my current ics kernel to restore my current system and all thing ?
To restore an ICS firmware, you only need a Recovery. You can restore the backup from Gingerbread, but then don't forget to flash ICS kernel, otherwise the phone won't boot properly
Hi guys if I restore back to my stock rooted nandroid and flash the stock recovery img that I backed up can I receive att ota? If not what do I need to do many thanks
Yup, as long as no system files were altered before making that nandroid you should be good to go. Restore stock nandroid, restore stock recovery. Root is okay, as well as unlocked bootloader.
Will rooting my A311 or installing a custom recovery prevent future OTA Updates??
If yes, then how can I backup my stock recovery??
You can still get OTA updates after rooting a phone unless you install a custom rom.
There is no reason to backup your stock recovery and isn't possible.
You need to backup your stock rom before installing a custom rom and that can be done by installing a custom recovery like CWM or TWRP after rooting your phone.
