Hi
I have ics and i am going to install gb kernel&rom
I will make back up in my recovery now .. When i install the new gb kernel & rom can i restore all thing or i need to flash my current ics kernel to restore my current system and all thing ?
To restore an ICS firmware, you only need a Recovery. You can restore the backup from Gingerbread, but then don't forget to flash ICS kernel, otherwise the phone won't boot properly

so i installed obsidian v5 beta yesterday nd also did a nandroid back nd titanium backup but i have a question since i have 2.1 stock build of samsumg vibrant backed up can i do a revert back to that build cuz i think i heard some where that you cant revert back if you have 2.2 froyo??
If you restore your nandroid backup, you also have to flash an appropriate 2.1 kernel. Nandroid doesn't backup your kernel, so if you tried to restore your nandroid backup only, you'd have a soft-brick. So long as you also flash a 2.1 kernel, you should be fine.
dhyanabad (thanks in nepali)
ummm would you possibly know how to flash a 2.1 kernel?
^ I put it in the sticky on how to flash, and there is a link to the 2.1 kernel you need. Shortcut is in my signature.
thank youu
so
1. i do a nandroid restore
2. download pakages nd select the vibrant stock kernel
right
Before I install any of the custom ROM, I want to backup my existing stock ROM. But most of the applications which work for other cells like xrecovery and rom manager do not seem to work for Xperia Mini ST15i. So how do I back up my existing ROM before I start trying other ROMs.
I have read the the thread freeXperia and I am aware of the bugs in CM7.1.0 .
Can any one help me with this problem .
My cell is already rooted and is running on the DoomLord Kernel.
Thanks,
just an idea, not sure if this can be considered as a ROM backup i've just bought my first android and still have a lot to learn about it: i'm sure someone with more knowledge will come and resolve your doubt properly but in the meantime think about this:
- flash boot.img from CM7 which has recovery
- make a backup of your settings with recovery
- install CM7 and see if you like it
- to return to stock rom flash kernel.sin and system.sin which are inside the ftf file from your stock FW, and flash them; again, flash boot.img from CM7 (has recovery, remember) then do a restore of your settings. Last, flash doomlord kernel and you should have your stock rom back the way you left it before installing CM7. (not sure if would work if just system.sin is flashed without kernel.sin to avoid the reflashing of CM7's boot.img ) (i suppose it would be rooted again since that was the status when you made the backup).
that's it, some one correct me please if i'm wrong...
hey man, I m brazilian an than cold b that i dont understand your question,
but goes there, you need know 1 thing, after you'd maked a backup with xrecovery ,
could happen that not make work in to recovery, but the backup is right and working, you need make it, 1 recovery original of mobile ,2 instal the custom zip rom, 3 after all, go to xrevovery and make the recovery, from your backup, ha dont forget that reset full wipe
@rael2000ix
does upgrading to official ics remove CWM recovery also, and how is would it be to go back to a CWM backup going from ICS?
Kies removes CWM and root so reinstall CWM and root. Then you can restore any backup you saved.
Hi guys !
I'm on ICS right now, odexed rom. Really stable and everything.
BUT
I want to test JB again, with full wipes and so on. And really this is giving me pain where the sun does not shine.
So here is my question:
Is there an easy way to switch between roms ? CWM recovery ? Do you have a How to ?
Take a backup of your current rom and transfer the backup to your PC (just to backup the backup in case!)
Then go on flashing a jellybean kernel and installing the rom. To restore your old rom flash an ICS kernel and restore the backup
Sent from my Nexus 4 running Android 4.3
So I'm running Cwm version 5.8.1.5 and on stock rom. Now I want to put a custom kitkat rom . so for that, do I need to upgrade my cwm to 6.0.4.5?If so then how do I do it( wanna confirm)?
And just so that the process is streamlined, can anyone tell me the exact procedure before and after flashing the rom via CWM?

If you want back-up apps and data with titanium back-up.
Put all the files you need on your phone (CWM kitkat compatible, rom, gapps) reboot into recovery, nandroid back-up, flash the kitkat compatible CWM, reboot into recovery and follow the steps in the op of the rom you want to install.
