[Q]ICS and JB device files compatible? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey,
I'm working on a Jelly Bean port, and i want to ask something:
Can i use ICS device files for my galaxy and include them into the JB Build.
Did i must change many things in that files or can i leave it at the most parts?
Thanks,
GlenniBoy
P.S.:Sorry for bad english, but i'm from Germany and only 12 years old soo....

Depending the files you replace or include. For example in all Android Roms decompiled data you have the app folder those apps you may interest that they are being updated the higher versions exist, or maybe some drivers from the official ICS Rom you may want to save to your Jelly Bean ported Rom...

Thxx

If you are starting with the Android ROM development be careful from what you do.
At first choose an old target to try.
But if you want to use your common device search for any recovery tool for it and search if it's possible to run android from the SD card and don't erase your actual system.

Thank you very much, but do you know, if the galaxy ace supports sd-card-roms???

Ask in the Galaxy Ace forums. But it's no usual to dual boot two Androids in an Android based device. I try my custom roms in a old Nike

[REQ] TW Launcher 4 Port

Hello all,
So I remember not too long ago a lot of people were asking for touchwiz 4.
Now it's out and I haven't really seen any steps in porting it to other devices (like ours).
BUT, some people over at the Galaxy S I9000 already ported it to their devices.
So, since we can also run android 2.3.4 now, I was wondering if there was a porter around here interested in porting this.
Here's a Link To the original post at the Galaxy S forum.
I don't have much experience porting other apps (unless I can get the whole source I.E. All the Java files and XML files in original format), otherwise I would have tried it.
Dympy
I think Gaby02 try port this.
Hello
I did not try this one yet, but maybe it works:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1061883
I linked to that post in the OP.
Already tried and didn't work :/
Dympy.
Whoops, sorry did not saw that
Try running it through Chainfire? Or am I talking **** now?
Well graphics aren't the problem.
First of all, it just won't install (Maybe because I'm on Froyo (The manifest file requires a minimum SDK version of 8, so if I'm right Froyo is capable of using it)).
If that problem can be overcome, I think the rest of the porting Would be quite easy.
Dympy.
Try pushing it to /system/app and reboot? Maybe it works then?
the current port of Touchwiz 4 on froyo is for arm v7 devices only....... so i suggest wait till marcellusbe port's cm7 and releases gingerbread AOSP.... cause then only the pngs will have to be converted... i guess......
Installed on cm7 but when I select tw it just gives a black screen with the notification bar :/
Touchwiz 4 is for ARMv7 so for the moment I think it's impossible to use it :S
i have tried all on froyo and on cm7 but no one would start i cant install it and only blackscreen
Probably, this would take an another marcellusbe to port the lib files

Making Flashing and Updating our device's a little more easy.

This is a call out to all existing and future developers of Xperia MDPI Devices.
For about a month now there is an app called Update Me Smartphone, which basically gives OTA update functionality for our Custom Roms.
From 01/05/2012 the developer of this app has given it a very interesting feature. You can view all Roms compatible with the Update Me Smartphone application. Even though you get a list a bunch of irrelevant devices, I suppose if we all "help" him with our suggestions he can make an application that will be on par with the Rom Manager app for devices that are fully supported by CWM.
To make this as simple as possible....
User "A" wants to download a new Rom for his Xperia MDPI Device. He has already downloaded and flashed a custom kernel (whether this is a Stock Kernel, or a CM kernel), then proceeds to download the app, install it and browse any compatible Rom's with his device... From then on his device will stay updated, through the Update Me application providing OTA updates of the Rom he has installed. If he wished to download another rom (compatible with the kernel he has - there are 3 Different Kernels AFAIK: GB CM, ICS CM, GB-ICS Stock Sony Kernel) he will just proceed to download the latest version of the rom he has selected straight to his device. No need to download to your computer, then connect the device, then copy it, then flash it. If you have the compatible kernel already installed, then its easy as pie.
Please let me know of your thoughts on this...
Edit: Link to the application's thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1590170
Edit 2: Apart from Rom's we can also implement various mods, tweaks, fixes, etc for our devices. Even though that would be extremely hard, due to the fact that all these files need to be stored in a direct download location like Dropbox, its is a viable option.
OMG I love the idea, that would be awesome!!
It's very interesting, thanks a lot for the info I will try it!
Some modification: In GB we have 3 different kernel (Stock Based, CM Based, MIUI Based [not released yet]). In ICS we don't have Stock based to Xperia MDPI, because Sony don't released yet the stock for us. So we have CM9 based, AOSP based (it's work with CM9 ROMs btw), and ported Stock based.
Some another notice: I saw a lot of thread (not only in this forum), but sooo many people trying to make ROMs. It's not a problem, but some guy don't know some full minimum things... So who will help this guys to add this app to their ROMs?
Are you using a different Kernel for the Sony ICS rom port? I mean the Ramdisk is the same size and you're using the same zImage from a stock GB rom correct?
Well nobody is forced to do this. All we have to do is provide the app developer a link with the update_me_check.xml so that he will sort of add a link for that in the application.
By the way, i now got my goo.im account, and this have own OTA app. I will try it, and I will report.
But I know, this is not only OTA app... Hmm... I need to think in it
So the only developer checking the thread is Expeacer?
Ok...

What makes you think like this?
Well, it's been a couple of days since I posted this, either people dont have an opinion of their own, or they don't care...

Samsung App Pack for cm9 / cm10

hey @all,
at first i got the sgs. After some month i root it and later i flashed cm7 and then cm9 and i loved it.
now i have the sgs3. and the stock rom is ****.
its laggy, i miss a lot of features and so on. so, at the moment i have a view on cm9 on sgs3.
and when i read some posts and known issues i thought about some things like:
- TVout doesn´t work an should never work.
so, the cm projekt is open source. but i can update the cm os with some original files from samsung to solve the prob (for me). right? or is is not so an easy way?
- radio doesn´t work
so i thougt i can copy the radio app in /system/apps (i write down the path out of my mind)
Some samsung apps has nice features (like the video player).
Can i use the app like copy it on the cm os?
the main question is, can i customize the cm os with original samsung apps and samsung configs, so that all thinks will work.
is there someone who has/will create some packages for that?
great thanks for replys

Some build prop entries will need to be adjusted to reflect the original device entries for the i9300. As I am aware that pack (made by a team member of mine) IS meant for the i9000 Galaxy S.
I can assist you if needs be, but I wont be doing the work for you. It takes up too much of my time. Plus people don't learn if you do things for them all the time.
Send me a PM.

The answer is largely no.
Most Samsung apps rely on the Samsung framework which only exists in Samsung official roms, this is almost impossible to port into an AOSP based rom like CM9.
However there is a project underway to port important/useful features from stock roms to CM9, this includes a lot of TW features (but not smart alert )
