I have a problem when i use handsfree earphones, there is such bad distortion that people cannot hear me. It isnt the headset as i have tested another pair and it does the same and it works fine in my other phone. Im not sure if i did something in the service menu as i was trying to increase volume on my headset for music, but this resets with a soft reset so it cant be that. I recently upgraded to ICS and thought this would solve the problem but it hasent. I do not really want to do a hard reset as this will take ages to back everything up and put it all back to how it was!
I am also unable to access the Service Menu Audio setting now, nothing happens when selected, all the other options work, again i dont believe this is the problem.
Has anyone had this problem before and if so what is the solution. Thanks for your time and help.
Brilliant guys thanks for all your help!

First of all thanks all the people who made WM6 possible in Prophet.
I have tried a few ROMs, including Gullum VIII and right now ShadoW 2.0 ( My Edition ). Two are very good ROMs except that
Occasionally the speaker does not make any sound at all. No rings when calling in, nor in any application that is supposed to make noise.
Don't get me wrong, the speaker itself is actually working well. This muted problem goes away as soon as I make a soft-reset, the only problem, however, is I just don't know when it will become muted again.
I have never used a headphone so it's not about the phone jack issue. And because the problem can be corrected by a soft reset, it appears to be ROM related (which I have not had with Windows Mobile 5).
I am using Radio ROM 2.69, not sure if it caused the problem.
Please advise for any possible solutions. Thanks in avdance!
try all the possible solutions for sound not heard via speakers eg jack issue or paper trick to isolate it's not/is a speaker problem. had similar problems & it turned out my speakers were the problem, replacing it did the trick.

Can u tell me abt the paper trick to isolate the jack prob u mentioned ???
Check this ...

Is the same problem ?
Because i got this with any ROM WM6 WM6.1
Thanks for your reply. But no, it's not the hardware issue since all I needed was a soft reset to resolve the issue every time it pops up.
and yes it seems to match the symptoms described here:

I'm having the same problem. Sometimes this problem can be solved by just reselect your ring tone (Settings --> Sounds & Notifications --> Notifications Tab --> Phone : Incoming call --> reselect your ring tone and OK). If this method doesn't solve the problem you need to do a soft reset.
Hope this help.
I'm having too.
I notice this expecially when I select the keypad tones (short or long).
Now I leave it off and I'm not encountring this anymore...
Hi guys, I've had my Hero about a year now. The other day, all of a sudden my speaker seemed to stop working. I thought, oh great, it's a hardware bust. I then tried a call and the sound came out fine. That is the only sound working. Everything works with my earphones plugged in. Any advice?
Any ideas guys, I'm pretty desperate here -_-
It could be something wrong with your media volume? I know when you plug in headphones there is a different volume setting? Try a sound volume manager like audio manager .. there is different
Does the problem replicate itself on different roms. etc.. also what rom are you using.
sorry, I know this is basic
Thankyou for the reply man .
Unfortunately I know it is not down to a volume problem because also the ringer volume does not make any sounds.
I am currently on an ancient Floyo ROM as I haven't been able to flash over the last few months. I'm currently waiting for a Froyo Sense with working camera or a reasonably stable GingerBread ROM.
Did you test a handsfree calling? Try making a call and enabling mobile speaker (there should be an option pressing menu button while you are calling).
HTC Hero, as many mobile phones, has two different speakers, one in the back used to play music and loud sounds, and another one on the front to make calls. I think your back speaker is not working and that's why you can't hear anything except voice when you call.
Sent from my HTC Hero
Thankyou, I did not know there were two different speakers, although I suppose it makes sense when you think about it!
Tried what you said and my back speaker is definitely knackered - may have just persuaded myself to get a Z >_>
cheers
I´ve gotten this very wierd and worrysome problem.
Mic earphone and speaker are all dead and i have no idea if its a hardware failure or software failure.
What happened.
Used Eternity rom b003a just during usual handling got an incoming call and noticed that i had no ringtone answered and couldnt hear them and they couldnt hear me (called on landline afterwards) and havnt been able to get any sound from the device since.
What ive tried
Flashed back to generic 1227-4612 via seus. no luck
Used servicemenu in both eternity and normal rom and got no sound from speaker or earphone.
Thou the REALY wierd thing is this and i got it on both roms, when testing mic in servicemenu it instantly FC with "com.sonyericsson.android.servicemenu"
Anyone have any ideas on what the problem is ?!!
Any help or suggestions would be greatly apreciated.

Have you tried plugging the headphones into your PC...while plugged in play something like an MP3 and then hold the button near the microphone.
Can you hear out both headphones? Is it the headphones and mic themselves or the input on the phone?
Next thing would be to try another pair of regular headphones on the cell phone. Some will work fine, others might sound tinny.

no its the internal EARphone speaker and mic none of them is working its either a hardware failure or a realy bad software problem but i dont know wich one
Hi, a few days ago I noticed the headset icon in my Xperia X10's task bar, even though no headset or headphones were plugged in. Turn off/on proved to no avail.
Everything else in the phone functions normal, and if I do plug in earphones, they still work.
The problem is really that if I call someone, I must use earphones in order to hear them, because the phone is trying to output the audio through the apparent headset.
If anyone has experienced this before, or knows of any possible solution, any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
When I phone someone, on the dialer, there is a button for speakerphone....make sure that is unchecked and that one the dialer screen is off.
Is Bluetooth on? Add the Power Control Widget on the homescreen....uncheck the bluetooth box
If you open Settings->Applications and take a look at what apps are running.....what is there?
Are there any apps that have anything to do with a music app or something?
thanks for your help beau420, but I now believe it is a hardware problem, after a minute of fiddling with inserting and removing earphones, I managed to make the phone realize nothing was plugged in, and hopefully have now solved the problem
Hi. I have a J7 2017 (SM-J730F) since it was released, and there is a problem related to the main speaker that has happened to me several times.
Sometimes, the speaker stops working. Headphones, Bluetooth speakers and the call speaker work perfectly, but the main one doesn't play any sound. Instead, if you listen closely, you will hear a low static noise when something is supposed to be played, and like an electric sound when the sound is meant to be stopped.
If this happens to you, maybe you have noticed that rebooting the phone won't fix it, even in safe mode. But there is a way to make it work again: just turn down the phone and wait a couple of minutes before turning it on again.
If you have other problems with sound and/or other possible fixes for it you can share it here, so somebody may find it helpful.
Omfg thank you I thought the speaker was dead

You're welcome
It must be a software problem
It works!
That is right.
This problem occurs after you do the root.
Power off and wait for a minute or two, then power on is enough to fix this problem.
Note: This problem always occurs when you do soft reboot with a third-party application, but it does not occur when you restart in the normal way.
I liked to share my experience with this problem.
Anyway, thank you.

I've never rooted my phone, and when this happened to me my device wasn't even rebooted. It's more like a software issue, and Samsung must fix it.
But the important thing is that this fix works to everyone, so you're welcome
Recently, my J7 Pro speaker went from loud to small even though I put it on Maximum Volume, does anyone know any solutions to this ?

If you have Sound Assistant installed, check that "individual apps volumes" are set to the maximum.
