rooting questions and confusions - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys.. i read a lot about rooting my S2..and found a method that doesnt require flashing an insecured kernel..so there wont be any risk of bricking the phone which i want to avoid in case anything goes wrong with CF root method. I am on ICS 4.03
Her is the method i want to use: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501719
Now i have few confusions though.
1. Will this install the CWM too which the cf root method also installs automatically? if not, can i download it and install separately or something?
2. Secondly , i would like to install and try out few custom roms..so which is the best and easiest method for doing that without any risks?
Thanks for the reply in advance

Anyone reply plz..
i am really looking forward to root...but am a noob on rooting...SGS2 is my first phone..just wanted to confirm everything before rooting
thanks

Yep of course that's the Rahmat3 flashable rooting zip.. that's my favorite rooting method coz it's so easy by flash the zip file even on stock recovery mode without flashing insecure kernel (that's more complicated way.. )
I'll tell u what I've done at my gs2 & of course in my case (may happen different on urs but little possibility if u really have an int'l gs2 gt-i9100
1. Yes it'll automatically installs CWM but better u d/l latest cwm (e.g. cwm 5.5.4)..u can search it at the forum using search feature.
2. I strongly suggest to flash ICS Slim 4.2 then combine it with Fluxi Kernel v.3 b1 (read procedures carefully), u'll provide an 'early project butter' experience, balanced by safest bug issues & nice battery life..& also it's free to customize ur app w/out dare about RAM full by samsung's bloat coz it's just... yes Slim!
If those will help...please press thanks....
EDiT :
1. It's not automatically installs cwm, but u can d/l cwm from rahmat3 rooting thread

1)well i would suggest u to simply flash a CF-root Kernel from ODIN and that will automatically install CWM for u
link below
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
2)the best way to flash a custom rom is to dwnld the zip file of that rom and follow the instruction in the OP of that rom thread to install the same

Please don't bump threads an hour after you start them. This is not your personal tech support forum :-/ Show some patience.

hoping for your urgent response cause i'm itching to flash a new custom rom on my phone for the first time. lol!
thanks in advance!
root only cant falsh kernel or roms..
but with root permissions you can install CWM. And with this you can install what you want
in this guid cwm is already installed. To root/unroot you have to flash these files.
The easiest way to get root and CWM is this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399

1 Cfroot
2 Root without insecure kernel.
I use Odin, but had a lot of difficulties reseting the yellow triangle after, so I bought the triangle away app. (You don't have to b/c it is free at XDA). Now if you find Oneclick method easier, then go for it.

I have the same xwlp7 and rooted and install cm9.
Google xwlp7 u will easily find insecure kernel for it.
U can watch some movies on YouTube to learn it first and get comfortable. Video from galaxys2root.com is good.
If u want to put custom rom then buying rom manager app is the safest and easiest way.

if you have GB then u can use doomlord root toolkit, then you can find the cf root kernel needed to match your kernel, extract till just a zImage, download InitialCFRootFlasher.zip and installed zImage manually that will give you root and cwm, then install mobile odin and away you go with out increasing binary counter. if you are on ICS then there is a thread somewhere on here for rooting ics other than cf root.
InitialCFRootFlasher.zip you unzip it then put you zImage in the insert zImage here folder then click the rooted option
But with this method read read READ, and dont use wrong CF zImage or you will be flashing firmware via odin tofix it

Thx for this, I will try this metod and then notify you is this help me!
I didnt say anything about flashing new kernel, i told you a way of minipulating kernel you have without using insecure kernel and without yellow triangle, only talked about mobile odin for your plans after, but if you trying not to void warrenty and keeping binary count as it is you will need mobile odin to flash original kernel if you ever want to remove cwm, once it is in its hard to remove without replacing kernel. I see someone already gave u link for ics rooting. i read between the lines of OP there is normally only one reason people worry about binary count.
Ps also triangle away app is suppose to reset binary count anyway but never bothered with it myself. every thing i told you about can also be undone without increasing binary count to

as i said before, custom kernel doesnt bring you root, it just gives you CWM. to get root, you need to install custom ROM (coz custom ROM usually pre-rooted) or install root manually if you wanna stick to stock ROM. to install root manually, search this forum around.

What he is looking for probably call insecure boot image. There are basically 2 different ways to give root, 1) insecure boot image 2) su binary
1) Insecure boot image basically give root access to anything, which is why many rom developers do not use since AVERAGE user who dont understand a thing about their phone, this will bring lots lots of trouble
If you want this, compile it urself. Use google
2) SU binary basically manage the root privilege to be given to certain command or apps which u usually encounter.
Use custom rom or root it urself if you want to use stock rom. If you want stock with pre-rooted, put the su binary urself here or find some stock rom with pre-root

[Q] Wich CF root + CWM are the best ?

Wich CF root + CWM are the best for my S3 with Omega v31 Jellybean ?
You need to read a bit more. As you already have cwm you don't need to root again you just grab the zip file of your desired recovery in dev threads, and flash it.
The two most recent are cwm 6 touch version or twrp. It's a matter of personal taste, try both and choose.
Backups are specific and can't be restored from one to another.
Depends on what recovery you like,I prefer the old method that doesn't use blobs when making nandroid, however the blob method does save space, so choose which ever version suits your needs

Dont use CF root. Read the "understanding the basics" thread. I have linked to the methods you should use.
Can I ask what wrong with cf way? Don't see the link mate?
Sent from my GT-I9300
Link is to cf-root 6.4 which is what I'm trying to do mate. Read that thread. All of it and that's what I'm going bye. So that/I'm wrong to follow that way of rooting? I don't get it
Sent from my GT-I9300
It's out of date and unsupported, use cf auto root then flash recovery after, old cf root will install non sds safe recovery.
Read read read read red.....read some more.....learn learn learn.....read read read....learn learn........only then flash
Out of date. Omg so link is bad then. Ok thank you a lot for the info mate.

Links are
1) You want root only. No custom ROMs, kernels etc. Just root, just to use root apps.
CF Auto Root Via Odin
Why? Tried and tested method, simple to use. No need to choose what exploit you want to use as it's tailored for your device.
What does it do? It gives you a stock recovery (so can't flash things) and roots the Android OS
The Steps:
1) Download the Latest Odin
2) Download CF-Auto-Root for your model
3) Follow These steps to root
In guide on how to flash and first link down takes you to cf-root 6.4 mate.
