I use 2 side by side people widgets on one page. I made some updates on gmail contacts and when one of the people widgets refreshed it had the name under the wrong picture, so I removed that one widget. I go to add it back in and I no longer have the people widget available to add. My second widget is still on the screen but my phone says there is no people widget. I reloaded the app from titanium backup (it showed 3?) but no change. I do a long press, go to widgets, and it's simply not in the list. Where did it go? Is there an apk or something I can use to load it back on?

Ok, so the Sense UI is very slick. I especially love the 'people widget' where you can see all your contacts profile pics on the homescreen.
But heres my problem. How on earth do I change the contacts within that widget? Everytime I delete the widget and stick it back to the homescreen, the same people keep popping up.
I guess it can be done quite easily, but why have they hidden that option?
Its done via the contacts, go to the favourites in your Peoples/contacts list.

It uses the people labled favourite in your phone book. So to delete somebody from the app you need to un-favourite them
ah ok. Simple enough.
Is there anyway to sort those contacts rather than having them display alphabetically?
I spent at least one day trying to find some apps that give me some very basic and easy functions and seems they doesnt' exist!!!
Just some examples:
- I want that on my homescreen there is a widget where I can see the latest/newest items in my google reader feeds/account.
I downloaded at least 10 different rss readers apps but NO-ONE has a widget that displays 2-3-4 or more lines with the newest titles The most near is a widget that show a 3x1 square with ONE line with the newest items switching between them every few seconds. I missed something? there is something like what I ask?
- I want that on my screen there is a widget where I can see what is appening in my facebook account. The FB for android widget shows only one/last post. The HTC FB widget shows too many things and you cannot use if you are using a non-sense rom or if resized it look really bad. The only alternative I found is the FB widget included in the LauncherPro... but what if I dont like LauncherPro?
- I want that on my homescreen there is a widget showing me my exchange/gmail mailbox: just sender: mail_object. Can be done with a very simple widget in the market for gmail, but not for exchange. To do this I had to pay and install a different mail client (Moxier) that has a widget like this...
I'm just wondering I will start to lear java to start developing my own apps

use any of the android builds that say Sense. HTC Sense on these ROMs have all of the above functionality for your homescreen.

As far as I know, as soon as you disable the sense launcher bar and use a different one such as Launcher Pro Plus you lose all the Sense widgets so the answer would be no you cant.
Mark.

Right.. this was what I experienced.
I dont want to use Sense widgets because
1) I setted up my dpi resolution to 180 to have a "bigger" homescreen
2) I use launcherpro plus to have 6 rows x 6 colums on every home to insert more widgets
In this way I just power up my phone from standby and I see:
1) hour and day
2) weather
3) news from my choosen keywords
4) calendar with the upcoming events
5) what is happening in facebook
So my question still remains... we have the market full of useful apps that do anything.. but no app to do really easy things like show on an homescreen some datas...this is incredible for me...
I have to do them by myself
I just enclosed a screenshot of my Home Screen.. I know, is not "cool" but it's working for me and give me all the informations I need at a first look without having to scroll in different homescreens
But could be better if there were some better widgets available
You know what pisses me off, there is not even a reliable alarm clock app for android. All of them may let you down in a very critical time. But it is very good thet we can find 1000+ apps that does nothing!!!

what you means for "non reliable" ?
I mean alarm apps work most of the time but somettimes they do not. It causes you to be late for your schedule. I tried many apps. "Alarm Klock" is doing okay but still it fails to ring sometimes.
Also there are so many apps which only does one single simple thing. It is like you have 2 different apps for volume up and volume down. That fancy android market is empty in reallity.
Hey guys,
I've been giving a GSM RAZR a thorough going-over this past week for an upcoming review, and in doing so have found a few interesting hidden features. Thought I'd start a thread about 'em, since I haven't seen anything mentioned here (Or elsewhere).
- First up, installing an alternate launcher automatically sets the new launcher as the default. Odd that Moto would do this. Also odd is that the long-press home task switcher/app drawer is specifically part of the Blur Home, so you get whatever task switcher your new home app feels like defaulting you to (Usually Android's standard one).
- You can still create shortcuts to the Blur Home's app drawer and app drawer groupings in alternative launchers (Long press on empty home space/add shortcut/app groups), so you can - for example - use Launcher Pro or ADW with the Moto app drawer by placing a shortcut to 'All Apps' in the dock.
- The above shortcut business also applies to stock Blur Home, letting you use the app drawer groups like folders. That's not really 'hidden', though.
Next up, we're going to need to install Launcher Pro. I'm not a huge Launcher Pro fan, since its development seems to have dried up, but this works regardless of whether Launcher Pro is your default launcher or not. As above, however, installing a new launcher will automatically set said new launcher as the default, and short of uninstalling it or installing a third launcher/a home switcher app, you cannot set Blur Home as the default again.
You can get around that by placing a shortcut to the Blur Home itself on the Launcher Pro desktop. It'll also pop up in 'recent apps' once you have Launcher Pro installed. Strange.
Anyway, the reason we want Launcher Pro installed is that it gives you many more options when placing shortcuts on the desktop of any launcher. Under shortcuts (Or in Blur Home's case, Shortcuts/App Actions/) is a new category called Activities. This lets you place a shortcut to any part of an app that can be called as a separate activity. Effectively, you can place a shortcut directly to one part of another app - although, be warned, some of these turn out to be shortcuts to 'Force Close', or 'Reboot the phone' because the OS doesn't expect these apps to be opened in this manner. Some are genuinely useful, however, and some are a little more interesting..
Of note:
- You can create a shortcut directly to Universal Inbox, rather than having to tap Messaging, then Universal Inbox. Yay!
- You can get directly to the Albums view of the crappy stock music player, or the Folders view of the gallery, avoiding those awful splash screens you get when launching either of these normally.
- You can get directly to different views in the calendar, like the Diary/Agenda view.
Now, it gets really interesting. Some of the app activities you can make shortcuts to aren't accessible through the apps themselves, the very definition of 'hidden'. Some of these are obviously hidden because Moto cheaped out on the firmware and bundled things like an FM Radio app into the stock Music player, which doesn't work because the RAZR doesn't have an FM Radio to the best of my knowledge (Even if it did, the app doesn't do much beyond demand you insert headphones and endlessly scan for channels).
- There's a debugging tool for the homescreen, which has settings for things like 'orientation changes', acceleration factor, and 3D widgets. None of these seem to work, unfortunately.
- The most interesting - profiles for the homescreen. If memory serves, a few previous Moto phones had this, and it has of course been an element of Sense for some time. You can choose from Home, Work, and Other, and they do work - widget layouts will be saved. It tends to force close when switching back to one layout from another, and occasionally changes the wallpaper to the Droid 3 stock with the three lines (Funnily enough, that wallpaper isn't in the wallpaper gallery for the GSM RAZR) but it does work.
I'll chuck some screenshots up shortly, and additional features as I find 'em.
I frequently change ROMS, and I always have all my apps backed up in Titanium Backup. This is great, because I can reload all my apps and gamesaves with a single click.
My only problem now is when it comes to setting up my homescreen. I like to have about 4 folders on my homescreen. To create these folders in ICS, I have to drag and drop my apps from my apps bar into the main window, then into their respective folders. I can do this with ADW launcher by simply restoring those settings...but I would prefer to get away from nonstandard launchers.
Question: Is there a way (program or other) to batch send all my apps to my homescreen so that I can speed up this initial setup process? Thanks in advance for any answers / guidance!
I used MyBackup with the same result when it came to widgets, any widget wouldnt display including clock. However, app shortcuts displayed as they're supposed to.
Hope that helps.

Will this program allow me to send multiple apps from my app drawer to my home screen? That's really the only thing I need. I don't care for widgets all that much, as the only widget I use is Pandora....easy enough to create on my own.
I just had to reinstall the latest software on my Xperia P, and now I am missing the "favorite contacts" widget. the one that is one line, with four contacts, but you can scroll it to find the other favorite contacts. anyone know where I can get my hands one this widget?
btw: I found out it has been replaced with a widget called "TOP CONTACTS". however I really don't like this. as it is 4 static contacts (can't scroll like I used to, to see more contacts, much the same way as the album widget) also, it's looks horrible, with TOP CONTACTS in big letters and the pictures are boxed in.
- Tried a 3rd party app, still not the same functionality.
- Also found an old widget someone posted, but this is the top contacts and call logs, its a 3x4 square widget. and I still want the 1x4.
