PLEASE tell me there is a way to revert my Razr Maxx from ICS back to Jelly Bean!? ICS is terrible, and has data issues, is slower and a whole lot of other problems. Maybe a factory reset back to out of the box state? Will that work, or is it even possible?
Thanks
U mean gingerbread?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
Arrggg, yes Gingerbread I mean.
I did a factory reset (System Settings -> Privacy -> Factory data reset) after I first installed ICS, and it has been generally snappy, which gave me a clean ICS system. I would have been hesitant to reset it if I hadn't had to wipe the phone just to get the update to go through....
Edit: Bold clarifications. The new bootloader will only boot ICS, and because the bootloader is locked we're stuck with the new system. (My theory is if we had a signed copy of the old bootloader, we could restore GB with Fastboot, but nobody has it and it can't be produced without Motorola's private key.)
No, I'm pretty sure once you update to ICS, you're stuck with it (Because of the locked bootloader). Doing a factory reset would only wipe all of your data from the ICS OS, not revert the entire phone back to the way it was out of the box (Gingerbread).

He only said that he did a factory reset and the phone has been snappy in response to the OP saying that ICS was slow. He did not say that it reverted you back to Gingerbread.

He posted his latest post as I was typing it. But look at the original post. He asked there if a factory reset would revert it back to Gingerbread. I was answering that question.

It's an amazing contrast when I see the same people who were screaming that their life was horrible because they hadn't gotten their ICS update yet. Now a bunch of them want GB back.

Never wanted ICS in the first place, so I wasn't one to ***** about not getting it. It simply told me there was an update for my phone-it did not tell me this was a MAJOR release or a new version. Sure hope Moto puts an option to revert in there next update. I don't know why they wouldn't?? I mean its not gonna hurt anything.
Using the Sunspider browser benchmark tests, I was getting ~1800 on Gingerbread and ~1600 on ICS. Lower scores are better. I couldn't imagine going back.
Lol

But what for ics in my opinion is much more advanced and smoother than GB.

I've upgraded my GS2 to 4.0.3 and now the battery life is shocking.
Previously I could charge my phone before bed (100%) and when I wake up, it would be 98%, however, since updating to 4.0.3 it was reduced to 36% after it was fully charged.
Anyone point me in the direction of some help?
Cheers

Once more you have not upgraded you have installed a leaked buggy beta test rom .

be patient as its still in beta. That said, I actually find my battery life slightly better with ICS(westcrip's ressurection). Try doing a factory reset and install again-might do the trick.
You probly got some app running that doesn't support ICS . Do a logcat or monitor your app's .

Ahh cheers, I'm new to all this so probably should have done a bit more homework. OK then, my question now is, how do I revert back to 2.3.5 from 4.0.3?
I've looked and even attempted it but I get lots of force closes. Let me know if you need more information about my phone. And sorry for the stupidity and n00b questions.

Tried ICS and had same situation as you. It seems that my problem was K9 with IMAP. The battery drain was horrendous.
I run back to 2.3.6.
Waiting for the final release or next ICS beta.
To go back is easy.
factory reset, wipe cache, dalvik. reinstall 2.3.6. rom, redo reset, wipe
You will be a happier man

So, factory reset (I know how to do)
Wipe Cache - erm

Reinstall 2.3.6 - where do I get the correct ROM?
Again, sorry for sounding like an idiot but I really wanna get this sorted and you have to start somewhere!

Did you replace or delete any system files? custom ad-hoc replacement maybe? Things like this cause the red triangle. All system files have to be intact before you update.
damn mine got triangle too didnt delete or touched anything. damn now i gotta RMA this one back thing was working perfect too
The same thing happened to me the first day i got mine and tried to update do ICS (.13 firmware back then). I rebooted and got back to HoneyComb and did the manual update do ICS.
I've been getting the red triangle ever since the first update i did when i got the tablet in december. Only way for me to apply updates is when the file is available for manual update on asus download site...usually a couple of weeks late on everyone else !!!
Don't know why, if i put the file on my microsd card and apply go through the manual update procedure that has been explained here, it works flawlessly, but if i try the automatic way, it never works.....and yes, i have played with system files...
Tried to restore , to unroot, pray to budha.....sacrifice a virgin to king kong.....nothig has worked....just have to wait for asus ...or some wise guy to make the WW available
hell no am gonna RMA this thing back i want updates now not later.i only have 2 weeks with this one even though wifi and all works great of course accept GPS. Call me crazy but if i have option to update thru wifi crap better work

You changed system files or uninstalled system apps (aka bloteware) you need to restore back....there are lots of threads from past updates that explains how to restore to stock........
I am rooted and restored my system back and updated without issue.

custom ad hoc files won't affect anything. I had them before update and didn't do anything to them or put it back to stock. update went through and installed just fine. must be something else that guy messed with in system files. maybe he themed his notifications or taskbar icons. that'll mess it up update.

You have to go back to stock to get back on the upgrade path to receive this. I'm currently on ICS and have no plans of getting this useless update.
Does anyone know if a rooted, stock ROM will receive the update? I assume so but don't know.

I believe so, assuming that you haven't touched the stock rom at all.
The update will check your current install to make sure it's exactly the way it should be.
Which means, if you've frozen or removed the bloatware. Unfreeze/reinstall them for the update to stick.

Hello Guys,
I am not sure if it is allowed to make a new thread for noob questions.

I may be wrong on this,
But I believe that with the leaked OTA updates, you must have your phone unrooted and attempt to flash it using the stock moto recovery, not CWM.
Hopefully this helps....I am far off being an expert, but that would be my first point of call.

I tried it yesterday. Didn't work. I also tried resetting to factory settings and do the OTA. Didn't work either. But thanks anyway.
I don't know what's the problem. Considering I am on Asiaretail ... same rom for GB ... it should have been possible.
Any experts? or any one who faced the same thing?
I think you have to unroot the device and then flash the ics via recovery. I may be wrong though. I am in the same situation right now and have been reading on this for a little while. I haven't tried yet since i know Motorola's brick easily.

I had the exact same problem. Tore my hair out. I did this -
Flashed the fastboot files via RSD lite that was there in the AsiaRetail ICS OTA thread.
BUT
That flash is a PSHAsiaRetail version.
Go to the PSHAsiaRetail thread. Download that and update using that. Went through without a hitch. I was getting really frustrated when using all the files from the AsiaRetail thread, I was getting the same error, till I booted my new fastboot flashed ROM and saw that it was PSHAsiaRetail.
I might be wrong - but this is what worked for me. I must also mention, that my APN was not loading up automatically and I had to input it manually.
I have since then, flashed the EU ICS fastboot and thats working pretty snazzy for now!
Hey greyanaroth ... thanks a ton!! ...
I appreciate it!!
This really worked ...
I don't know why!! .. But it worked!!
Thanks for your help to get me ICS!!
No worries! Glad I could help.
BTW - for some reason, this build gave me a few problems - mobile network not working straight off the bat, for one - had to configure an APN for my network manually.
Unless you're attached to the Asia build (no reason for you to, as far as I've been able to deduce), might I reccomend flashing the EU ICS fastboot - it's running a lot better for me for some reason!
Hello,
First thing I did when I got my phone before even playing with it was unlock the bootloader in fear I would not be able to later on (was so tempting to have the file and not actually unlock it, so i did). Afterwards I realized i did not run the OTA first and i am on firmware 1.26. I am seeing some blurbs here and there with people stating that in order to update the firmware you need to relock your bootloader and than do the OTA, it is not something that would get done by installing a new rom. I am new to HTC, had the nexus before this and everything could not have been easier. Just want to see if I am understanding this correctly, and would it be wise of me to relock my bootloader and than do the ota and than re unlock.
thanks for your help!

I'm fairly certain that isn't true. You just need to wait for someone to post the stock update "rom".
What is the most current firmware?
I did a software update and found nothing earlier today. I'm on 1.26.502.10
I remember seeing in the at&t forums that people were getting an OTA right off the bat, and in the international they have 1.29.401.12.. but maybe I am just being paranoid? I am on same firmware as you.
I'm not worried about it too much. I'm sure to have a custom ROM on this thing sooner rather than later.

Why not flash a custom rom now from the international forum? Or just flash stock international rom?
Something in android revolution thread stated that if u have a different firmware version than what they are using u need to wipe data through aroma.. which i understand.. just was curious about running the most up to date firmware and such.. but if that's just for international. Than no biggie. Plan on flashing this afternoon!
