Data speed after radio update - Share results here - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

I just updated to 1.05.11.0606 and ran a before-and-after comparison to see what difference it made. For reference, I have a generally poor signal here (at home) and didn't expect much of an improvement, if any. In an attempt to rule out network load variables, I ran five tests using the Speedtest app before and after the update, all within about 20 minutes. Here are the results:

Although it appears that both up- and down-load speeds have increased, I'm a little hesitant to conclude it is because of the radio. There is a huge variance in results in both sets of data and not being a statistician, I'm not sure how to interpret them. Also of note, my ping actually went UP, which seems unusual considering the speeds improvements. Anyway, if anyone else want to share their results, it might be nice to have them all in one thread.

Seriously! :good: idk why 4G came on but OK!

I live just outside of Washington dc and my speeds have dropped since the OTA update. Has this happened to anyone else? I have also updated my prl and profile with a reboot and no dice. First pic is before 2nd is after.

Your download results are not statistically significant at the 95% confidence level (nor even the 90% confidence level). This means that it's not unlikely enough that you'd get those results by random fluctuation in the observations.
Your upload results are, however, statistically significant. There's a probability of 0.0078 (0.78% chance) that you'd get those results by random chance.
So ultimately, we can conclude that the new radios at least don't hurt download speeds, and are likely to improve upload speeds.

^^^statistics ftw

Haha. Small time.
Yes, my 3G is so bad at home that I can't even run a test.

my results are about the same
yellow box are tests prior to the new firmware/radios. red box are tests after the flash.
BTW, I'm running MeanROM ICS 1.4 (OTA 1.22.651.3) and firmware 1.22.651.3

My upload definitely improved.

Can you read? I said mostly... also on Sprint with official PRL's you cannot roam with 3G speeds, only 1x speeds which suck. PRL updates you may see better coverage but that is it, you still will not get better 3G speeds. If you think so you are drinking some awesome cool aid!

I get full wimax signal at my house still mixed results there. I never use it here since I have wi-fi. Ran a few tests just for kicks anywhere from 2 on the low end to 6+ on the high. When it first came here use to pull 10+ everytime.
God I can't wait for wimax to go, funny there is an ad in speedtest for verizon that says want an LTE network? Yes I do. Sprints 3G is good when it actually works, it use to be the best around not so much anymore. I would be way ok with CONSISTENT speeds of 1,000+ I just want enough to run rhapsody and pandora. EVDO rev B would be a nice upgrade, I hope we see it sometime along with LTE.
I would say haven't noticed any faster speeds at home, but hopefully when I'm out and about it is a little more consistent.

I personally wasnt expecting better 3G speeds but one can hope . I spent the past week roaming in Verizon's territory (Yes I used the PRL hack for verizon towers since I was in a verizon zone anyways) OMG delicious download speeds (still drooling)

I can't stream netflix. No YouTube no Pandora. Forget even a steady enough connection to even successfully download a 90 mb ROM from my dropbox. I guess I could drive over 600 miles or so to some amazingly over rated 4G/wimax. T-mo gets consistant 2.5.to 3.5 mbs on the hspa+ network sitting 4 inches from my evo3d I value my time. Maybe when Verizon kills sprint off ill try some cdma again. But I am so sick of having a 4G phone with a sub 56k connection that was slow in 2000.

Im thinking about doing the same... Who cares about a 2gig limit if i can never get to it... I had tmobile when it was 5gig and the one time I did get throttled it was slow but not as slow as 12kbps like I get now with sprint... I've called dozens of times and they all say the same thing...
"No towers are showing any problems data wise... let's set up a eticket and have the device checked out..."
Go to the sprint service center... Guy looks at my phone and checks a few things out...
"No problems here"
I tell him to run a speed test (in a sprint store) and I pull 150kbps...
Now I have WiFi at home and have to use it to watch/stream anything... But why in the fack am I paying for "premium data"?

I agree. I think his post was being sarcastic.
Upload is always way slower than download speeds.
Wish I got those speeds.
Verizon is going to have 4G in my area by the end of the summer. Looking at another two years before Sprint 4G comes to my area.
So the the ultimate question is, how much do I like unlimited data?
One thing I know is, if Sprint pulls unlimited data after it acquires a network I am going to be more than upset. If I sit here for the next couple of years getting 50-300kbps average, while I could be getting 10 times that on big red, only to see Sprint say, "Okay, we have a network comparable to the other carriers, here's tiered data..." Somehow, I think that's there plan.

I'm not normally one to complain but...

Sprints service is insanely horrible, Voice and data. I'm on vacation a few states away and yesterday I couldn't make a single phone call without getting a busy call sound and I'm only getting .01 download and .010 upload. My brother has the One X on At&t and his phone service puts me to shame. I understand he has a data cap but what's the use of having unlimited data when you have no data to begin with? I'm extremely tempted to call Sprint and complain and possible switch carriers. I don't understand why Sprint sucks and is lacking so bad. Just extremely aggravated and venting. Where I'm at on vacation doesn't even have WiMax and he has at&t 4g with no loss in coverage. WTF SPRINT!

Sprint is currently in the middle of a huge back haul upgrade, this will allow the new LTE to provide the superfast 4g, unfortunately the upgrade is causing pain in some areas but will have to live with a little pain before reaping the benefits of the new network. Good news is that the upgrades are rolling out faster then originally scheduled and bad service areas are getting less and less.

Where were you exactly? Sprint might be upgrading the towers in the area to LTE. I had this happen to me in LA, and the fix was a free AIRAVE Sprint sent me when I complained loudly and often enough. However, I have no complaints other than that, as I have excellent throughput everywhere I go. It might be due to the fact you were not in a metro area that has enough tower coverage.
With that being said, I was in a local mall yesterday, and browsed the ATT kiosk. They had the One X and G3 there. So, I show him my LTEVO, and he tells me very quietly not to get the One X, as the LTEVO is the One X on steroids.
I think that says it all.

They're both LTE capable phones. Same settings (Lte/Cdma).
One connects fine but the other doesn't.
What's going on here?

you love justin beiber? huh
Both on Sprint?!
Were going to be getting an update to improve 4g connectivity any day now.
I hope so. I have seen on many occasions my wife's EVO will connect to LTE and mine will not. Then her phone will drop it and mine would pick it up. No obvious reasons for it.

It's not going in and out. It's stable. Very stable with speed (highest I've seen) of 14.8 MB download, 9+MB upload.
Evo NEEEEVER connects. Once in a while when I'm driving around.
Maybe it's something to do with sense? Nexus is on vanilla so maybe it does a better job with connecting to faster networks. idk
Both on Sprint, the s3 has LTE and JB leaked. Great... :crying:

I don't know. That was my guess too. And if true, it fkn sucks that the HTC devices can't even get LTE but we still pay $10 extra a month for 4G.
Not to mention other devices show to be superior.
Complete bull****.

My bad
http://forums.androidcentral.com/htc-evo-4g-lte/201684-small-update-coming-8-22-a.html
Supposedly quoted from a Sprint internal forum. I work at sprint and have not found anything that confirms this update
Have you all rec'd the update yet?
I de-activated my EVO so I don't know.
