I have a relatively untouched Atrix, prior to the update that Motorola put out months ago all I did is what I needed to remove the factory installed Swype and install the Swype Beta.
A few nights ago I was following a guide (can't seem to find which one it was) to install CyanogenMod and I was attempting to flash Pudding to my phone through RSD Lite per the instructions and from what I think I have soft bricked my phone.
The screen is showing the failed to boot screen with the menu options. From what I've read I can flash it back to stock if I find the right sbf file but I only get one shot at this.
I only realized after screwing up that I joined a long list of people who didn't do enough research before starting. Would anyone be so kind as to help me get my phone working again? :good:

Hi I'm new to the forums but I've been lurking here for a while...soon after I got my atrix one of my buddies "hooked" it up for me by adding all these apps and what not to help me transition over from iOS well from what I'm finding out is apparently he rooted it also because when I went to OTA update it downloaded and installed everything correctly until it automatically rebooted and stuck me with a black screen saying failed to boot 2 starting rsd mode where it just hangs until I restart it which gives me probably 30 seconds to a min of on time before it automatically reboots and hangs.
I got up with my friend briefly and he said to go into recovery...well I've tried that also with no success so if anyone can point me in the right direction I'd really appreciate it
motorola atrix 4.1.83
at&t
he said gingerbreak was the method used to root it
any other info needed?
mods if this is in the wrong thread or something please move it but if not someone please link a thread or something because I'm having no luck with solutionns I've found and my atrix is a few minutes from being thrown against the wall
get rsd lite and find the 4.1.83 sbf (install) file and use it. lots of threads with that info.
he might just get a pudding inserted 2.3.4 stock rom and thats it, so it wont burn hsi bootloader yet he will be on stock 2.3.4, but probably youll want to get rooted again, so you might jsut get one that is prerooted: from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1138204
you might do a short read from here aswell: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1136261
i do not suggest you unlock your phone i just suggest you dont flash the OTA, since it makes it harder for you to go back to 2.2 if you might not like 2.3
thanks for your help it worked. Sorta freaked and yes there was a previous thread but I didn't know what to dl thanks for the help again
I am reviewing PUDDING information to unlock the bootloader and I have some concerns.
PUDDING Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1136261
1. This guide posted in PUDDING says your phone must register as NS Flash Olympus and mine is registering (now) as SE Flash Olympus. Why is that? My phone "used" to register as NS Flash Olympus but no longer does and I am concern with any "issues" that may arise in RSD Lite due to that discrepancy.
Is there any way to get my phone to register back as NS Flash Olympus? Does it matter?
Guide: http://briefmobile.com/how-to-unlock-the-atrix-4g-bootloader
2. I see this post regarding my situation from OTA Gingerbread (official, not the beta that was easily unlocked via the guide) to unlocking the Bootloader via PUDDING:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15953305&postcount=362
While it seems that people are getting by this fine, with my first issue I am skeptical and I also saw this thread that made me a bit more weary of the situation and hard bricking:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1165154
Is this something I should be concerned or worried about? The only note in that thread that concerned me was "If you managed to un-brick:" section.
System Version: 4.5.91.MB860.ATT.en.US
Android Version: 2.3.4
Rooted: No
Please, save yourself time. If you just plan on being rude, flaming, etc...I don't care. I am just attempting to ensure I don't hard brick and the guides do not match exact specs in my situation. If I had a "fraction" of the time available to investigate, work, test, etc I wouldn't be here.
I used this on the official OTA and it worked perfectly: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1182871
I had the soft brick error as was to be expected, but just put the phone in fastboot mode and chose option 3 to fix it.
It did reset /data for me unfortunately, so I had to re-setup and reinstall my apps.

Did you share the same problem as my concern #1?
Never even checked to be honest. I had used RSD to flash a few SBFs in the past though for this atrix, so I was not concerned.
Well, in short...I just used the method you posted above -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16520624&postcount=2
Worked just fine. No brick, safe and sound... I really do appreciate the extra info I somehow missed looking around for.
That's it! You just made me realize my problem. After my official update back to stock my phone comes up se flash not nf flash and it does not allow rsdlite or the moto software upgrade to see my phone when connected to pc hence I am unable to unlock again. Please post back if unlock is successful. I am betting its not while coming up se flash but maybe I am wrong.

I bricked one Atrix already a few weeks ago, and have since gotten another...(don't wanna think about it)..
I had toyed with unlocking it, and 'rooted' using the gingerbreak method. I was then, bored, one day and installed CWM paid version(Since I had it on my Nexus One, and it popped up under 'my apps'). Out of curiosity I installed the bootloader via CWM, thinking it would fail before it broke anything..wrong.. It froze after a reboot, but after taking the battery out and back in came back up. Didn't think any more about it, and figured i'd finish the unlocking/flashing part some other time..
Meanwhile the annoying pending system update kept going off, and I inadvertently clicked download... it downloaded, so I figured might as well install and not worry about roms since with root I was able to use the google adhoc wifi apk, which is what I care about most. The install was stuck in an infinite loop. It would 'fail to load RSD', if you took the battery out it boot to android then reboot automatically for system update over and over. I tried using the RSD lite program at this point to flash back to stock rom, and ended up hard bricked...
So, forgive me for being a complete noob as I never had an issue with my nexus one. I am at 4.1.83, android 2.2.2. and baseband 1.7.15.. Which of the many tutorials and post should I follow? How safe are they? Did I brick because I had a partial 2.3.x install, and flashed back to a pre 2.3 base? I've read many post, but definitely a bit gun shy of bricking another Atrix. The phone keeps bugging me to update, and I keep hitting 'cancel'.
I'd like to unlock the boot loader for custom roms.
I'm also a heavy linux user, majority of tutorials seem to only imply windows with RSD lite? can this not be done with adb, and fastboot via linux?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1154600
I would personally go HERE Read through the entire post, then read it again. And go with the ATT 2.3.4 pudding+root
That of course is after reading and re-reading THIS post! (also linked in the post above mine.
Just my opinion.. and make sure you read and nkow what to expect!

That references 4.5.91 and unless I missed it, doesn't explicitly state it's backwards compatible with 4.1.83 and 2.2.2. is it?
Should I update first, to be at those levels and just know not to flash to an earlier build(pre 2.3.4/4.5.91)?

Nope, don't update. It's safer to unlock BL while you are still at 4.1.83, you just need to download the correct unlock file from the pudding thread.
Otherwise the unlocking steps are exactly the same.
The easiest steps to unlocking are here:
http://briefmobile.com/how-to-unlock-the-atrix-4g-bootloader
From there you can flash CWM in one minute.
From there you can flash any rom via CWM in two minutes.
Good luck and don't do anything stupid.
I’m stuck in a rut. I got a Motorola Atrix 4G (AT&T) last week and was trying to unlock it using the following instructions: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Motorola_Atrix_4G:_Full_Update_Guide#Unlocking_the_Bootloader
I installed RSD Lite 5.7, the Motorola Drivers, and downloaded the unlockable bootloader. I got to step 12, and then everything quickly went downhill. I got stuck on the horrid “Failed to boot 0x1000” screen, along with the list of options. I have tried booting into RSD, running RSD Lite, and loading the bootloader, but I get a “Device Interface” prompt…not exactly sure of the wording at the moment. I drained the battery last week messing with it, and had to buy a standalone charger (which I just received today).
I am not sure of the Android version/firmware version that was on the phone prior to doing this. I know, mistake #1.
My computer is recognizing the Atrix, but the RSD Lite is not able to install the unlockable bootloader (listed on the above site). I have downloaded one “Stock Restore” MFBSR.zip (I can’t seem to find the link to the thread) but this was not able to fix the problem. It recognized my device, but the Atrix wouldn’t accept any of the commands.
I am not sure of what to do, short of calling Motorola and trying to get them to help. I’m sure they would either want to replace it (charging me) or just basically tell me I’m SOL.
I wanted to try FruitCake’s recovery tool, and found the following thread, which has mirror links of some of the files:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24472332#post24472332
I have no clue as to what I would use, so I haven’t even tried downloading one of them. I’m seriously at my wit’s end..I have been Googling and trying to avoid making a post about this. Any help is greatly appreciated. I am about to try the following directions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19986512&post=234
Also probably important to note that I tried unlocking it using Fastboot, but it was "Waiting for device" for forever and did nothing. When I try to go into Recovery, it says Magic Value Mismatch.
Thanks guys.

I was stuck on the Moto Dual Core Screen as well. I used the automatic unlock MAIN program to unlock, root and install custom recovery. When I tried to flash epinter's CM10 ROM I got boot hang at the Moto screen.
You can RSD back to stock (e.g. I found the AT&T .151 sbf file and restored my phone to working condition on 2.3.6 GB).
In the end I figured out that the recovery in the auto unlock tool (both the telfar and CWM options) was borking the CM10 flash. I ended up:
1. RSD lite AT&T .151 GB 2.3.6 sbf file
2. Unlock Bootloader with automatic unlock
3. Root and install custom recovery
4. Boot into android
5. download goo.manager from play store
6. Install open source recovery with goo.manager
7. reboot into recovery
8. Make backup of everything
9. Flash JB CM10 & GApps
Phone is up and running w/o issues. A bit of googling should find you the necessary sbf to get you on your feet again.
Good luck!

I am trying this...but when I am in RSD Lite, it says "Failed Flashing Process: Unable to retrieve interface handle (0x7027)". It does detect my device before this, saying Port Type: USB, IMEI/ESN/MEID: NA, and Status: Connected...
Please help!

He can't. Fastboot doesn't respond. Also he can't flash any SBF, everything fails.
Looks more like a hard brick to me...
Perhaps... (option number 3)

Did the same to mine about 5hr 's ago, but i found These SBF files (https://sites.google.com/site/motosbf/atrix-sbf-files ) found the one i was running ,booted the phone into RSD mode again and ran it in RSD Lite ,took a while about 30mins but it worked .
hope this works for you
NOTE: I'M NOT REALLY GOOD AT THIS. I'M A REALLY GOOD STEP BY STEP-FOLLOW INSTRUCTION-GUY.
I'm a moderate phone user. One day I was trying to get rid of the carrier IQ, I rooted and unlocked my phone and successfully get rid of them.
Then somehow, I realized there was a software update which would update me from 1.27.531.8 to 1.27.531.11.
So I did an OTA and found out that I need a stock recovery to be able to get that OTA.
Before I found mugetsu666's post that includes the stock ROM, recovery, and kernel, I found Behold_this's post firmware packages.
So I flashed it with the newest OFFICIAL FIRMWARE PACKAGE by using "fastboot oem rebootRUU, fastboot flash zip firmware.zip"
After that, I noticed my wireless is gone/broken. And the software number remains the same which it didn't really update.
So I tried his(Behold_this) other stock custom firmware package by doing the same command but the other file trying to go back to the way it should.
Wireless is back this time, so I did an OTA. OTA stuck at the recovery screen and I press Power+Volume UP and get his message that it is doing Bug Fix. My phone just hang there for a good 30 mins and realizing it doesn't really bug fix anything.
So I found the other guy asking the same question on Behold_this's post, Behond_this stated that if the phones was rooted or unlocked, the OTA would not work.
So I relocked it, unrooted it, tried it again. The problem remains. Then I thought I have to "Lock it" instead of "relock" So I S-OFF by using revone and get that tampered down and also locked it.
Again, I unrooted it, locked it, the problem remains the same.
After that, I decided to give the mugetsu666's pure stock rom a try. I did a factory reset in TWRP (I already unlocked it again and flash a recovery), and flash mugetsu666's stock ROM and locked it and unrooted it again. OTA would not work still.
SO....... I decided to give a combination of both a try! I flash the stock rom, kernel, and stock recovery from mugetsu666's post and install the official1.27.531.11 firmware package from Behold_this. The problem remains....
Okay.. So What I was trying to do originally was to go back to an average user and use the convenient OTA when it's available. NOW!!! It's like a thing in my head that I must solve!!! It is driving me crazy now............ I spent more then 10 hours non-stop to just try to fix this thing...
I could probably return it to the carrier and get a new one since I just bought this about 3 days ago. But I already have the full body tech skin on the phone already. It took really long and some money to do it... Didn't want to just return the phone and get a new one.
If any of you can help me with this problem, I sincerely appreciate it!!!
Please help me!
Thanks everyone for the help in advance!
I'm having the exact same issue. Keep me posted on if you fix it.
