Me and my wife have the Eris. no phones were rooted.
My phone was manually updated to 2.1 and my wifes was OTA.
before i go to bed i turn off the data signal and clear out all programs running with task killer. it was 60% charged, come to wake up in the morning and find that the battery fully discharged and had to plug it in the mains to switch it on. a few days after my wifes phone is doing the same.
would like some ideas from you guys on some of the reasons this may be happening. would love to provide you with more information... just tell me what and where i can get it from.
Thanks.
mee too
the same thing happens to me but in a different manner. This started about 3 days ago as far as i could notice. While the phone is in my pocket it would randomly get really hot and most of my battery would be drained. This usually happens in the middle of the day. I have to shut the phone down and restart it and then I would not notice the problem for rest of the day. I have 2.1 V3 leak installed on my phone. any ideas as why this is happening?

Wow...that is strangely similar to what is happening to mine. It just started a few days ago as well.
I got up this morning with a fully charged phone (it takes all of 10 hours to completely charge, if it does fully at all) and after looking at facebook and reading a few news articles for about 2 hours, my phone was at approx. 60%.
This happens every day now and I end up chasing a charge all days between the ac adapter and my car charger. I'm getting sick of carrying my charger with me all day but I have to.
Mine is also getting hot. I first noticed this Tuesday as I was using Tapatalk while the phone was charging via wall charger and it got hot and just died. I had to wait about 30 minutes for it to cool and then it would boot up.
Like you said, this just started recently and I am also running Leak v3. I have removed all widgets and taken off everything I don't absolutely need off of the phone (apps, that is) but no change. Just as an example, I have had mine connected via usb to my work pc since 5 pm (it's now 1:20 am) and it is still not completely charged.
It gets to about 85-90% but will not close out to a full charge for hours. I just ordered a new battery today to see if I have just "overcharged" mine, so if that works I'm gonna get a premium (1750 mah) battery maybe and try that.
Very strange. I'd say within the past few days, my phone has had considerably worse battery life as well. Usually I'm pretty good about killing apps and there was one day where I forgot for most of the day.
I recharged it to full last night and have been killing apps and keeping an eye on it all day and it is still giving me poor results. I'm rooted and running a 2.1v3 ROM atm.
try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6137989&postcount=23
or this
Long press power/end button. Turn Airplane mode ON. Press the power/end button to put your phone into sleep. Press power/end button to come out of sleep. Turn Airplane mode off.
The cell standby percentage will/should eventually go down to 0%.
or dont use task managers / killers. there is no use for it on the phone. android has a built in task killer that is really smart.
could be cell signal as well
issue solved
Hey guys, I solved the issue, i used the *#*#4636#*#* and in my settings it was trying to search for a GSM signal, so i changed it back to CDMA auto PRL
It was very strange it would do that but still its been running like a champ now, thanks everyone.

When I do this and look at the battery history, it says
Running 100%
Screen on 9%
Phone on .6%
and my battery level is at 58% currently. Mine is already set to CDMA/Auto PRL and my battery life within the last week or so has utterly SUCKED! I get up and unplug it at 3:30 am (fully charged) and go to my first job. By the time I get to my second job at around 10-10:15, I have to plug it in because it's very low. All I use it for at my first job is to check the time every once in a while. I dont play games on it, surf the web, etc. WHY should my battery be draining this fast when Im not using it!? Im seriously thinking about trading this POS in. Im so tired of this laggy, battery sucking phone!
I have the same problem. I turn on the mobile network only when I use it. ill turn on network with a full charge and check the news for maybe 5-10 minutes and my battery is down 10-15%. I haven't always had this problem. It started maybe a couple weeks ago. I'm using Android 2.1 leaked v3. I cent wait for my phone upgrade. This phone would be perfect for me if it wasn't for the HORRIBLE battery life.

I thought the same thing because it said cdma/auto prl when I got to like step 2 but I hadn't pushed menu and gotten the force close which then brought up the screen that did have gsm listed instead.
Just make sure you go through all the steps listed there...
Just out of curiousity, which Facebook version do you have? You have an app keeping your phone awake 100% of the time which is why your battery is draining and the 2 latest versions of the Facebook app are known to do that. If it isn't that app, download Spare Parts from the market and use it to check what is using the most under Partial Wake usage, the app and the top using the most battery will be the culprit.
Hello everyone! I would have posted this in the actual GSB thread but I don't seem to have the correct privileges yet so I am posting here instead.
First off, I just want to thank workshed for his awesome work. I really do love the ROM and everything about it. However, I have a few small issues with it that I can't seem to figure out.
First off, my battery life is terrible. Take yesterday for example. I used my phone probably twice to send some texts in the morning and to check the time. Charged it throughout the night and pulled it off the charger when I woke up and began my day. Within two hours, my phones battery was down to 75%. Five hours later, it was completely dead and I hadn't even used it.
My second issue is with settings. For some reason, when I reboot, some of my setting don't get saved. The one thing that really bothers me is the keyboard. I have Swype installed and every time the phone shuts off, I have to go into settings and re-enable Swype as my keyboard. It is just a hassle and is kind of frustrating, especially when I forget to do and then go to send a message.
Other than those two issues, I absolutely love the ROM and wouldn't change it for anything else. Anyone have any suggestions for what I can do about my few issues?

Recharge it until you get a green light. Restart the phone in Recovery, go to the Wipe menu, and wipe the battery stats (I'd keep the phone on power for this.) Restart the phone, pull the power and use as you normally would. Ignore anybody who tells you that you must run the battery down until the phone shuts itself off - this is really not great for the battery (though once a month or so isn't bad), and really isn't necessary for the battery calculations to reset themselves with new usage stats. The longer you can go the better, but it's not necessary to change your phone usage habits so that you have a completely discharged phone.

Thank you for that information, I shall try it out and see if it helps!
I also forget to mention one more error. Whenever I boot up the phone, my Facebook account sets itself to not sync and I lose all my contact pictures. I then have to open the Facebook application and set it to sync again.
EDIT:
Sorry, didn't realize it was a double post!
My battery life is similar to the OP's. I can make it through the day, but since I am ususally down to about 60% by one or two pm (from 6 or 7 am) I prefer a mid-day charge just to make sure I can last through the evening.
I just flashed [ROM][3/22/2011] GSB v2.2 | GingerBread 2.3.3 [CM7.0.0 RC2 NIGHTLY] a few days ago and it has been running great, but I noticed that my green light (battery fully charged) now comes on @ 90%.
Before it would not turn from amber to green till 100%. Should I wipe battery stats?
Under battery use (sry no screenies) there is nothing unusual:
Display @57%, everything else under 10%.
But when I checked Spare Parts I noticed that my little Eris won't sleep!
It looks like Android system is the culprit, keeping a partial wake lock.
Battery History in Spare Parts:
Other Usage - Since last unplugged
Running 100%
Screen on 13.2%
Wifi on 100%
Wifi running 91.6%
Partial wake usage - Since last unplugged
Android System almost a full blue bar, all other apps minimal bars
The phone has more or less been sitting at my desk at work in wifi with light usage.
Anyone have any idea why Android System is trying to eat my battery?
i had battery problems on gsb its a great rom. i switch to ginger tazz. with tazz's rom i get more then 20hrs b4 it says to connect charger thats with the display on about 4 hours and wifi on and running facebook tapatalk calls texts and whatever i think of doing.
I'm running GSB 2.5 CM RC 4 and I now have been able to get 25 hours with 70% of battery left. I used to be able to get maybe 24 hours before it died. Now your mileage may vary but this is what I do. I removed Task Killer which was eating a bunch or the battery and after a visit to Amazon's app market their little app was running all the time along with Weather Bug so both of them are now gone. and finally I turned off auto sync ( I can check my email when ever I want and it takes a lot less battery). By turning off auto sync that was what really made the difference for me. Of course there are many things you can do but running WiFi will kill your battery faster than 3g (or at least it does on mine) and I have the screen brightness set at 18. Just a note I leave BT and GPS on all the time when they are not being used an are in standby their usage is quit small.
What works for you would depend on if you want your email pushed to you all the time and if you have to have your WiFi on instead of 3g.
Again it's just my observations for my phone.
Really you should just do the first suggestion and recalibrate your battery.
Also if you read closely in workshed's log, he specifically said to a full wipe not only formatting external memory but also doing a dalvik/cache wipe. You may as well also wipe the battery stats while you're at it.
Personally I'm running GSB 2.5 and it's simply amazing. 60% of the battery gets me from wake-up alarm to nighttime charge.
Hope you figure it out!
After I installed GSB 2.5, my battery also seems to be rapidly discharging. Takes less than an hour of no use, wifi-on to drop from 100% to ~80%. I did a full discharge calibration on my battery as soon as I flashed to this GSB 2.5
I will attempt the simple batt stat wipe at 100% and see if that helps at all. I'll let you guys know.
I bought the samsung s2 primarily because of the amazing reviews it got for battery life.
I got mine 2 days ago and right from the start there were problems. I charged the unit three hours and according to the battery meter it had still not charged. then I tried to turn on the phone nevertheless, and it said it had 100% battery life. I then used it for 2 mins and it dropped down to 0% again and powered down. Then on charge back up to 100% in a couple of moments and back down to 0 % mins later. I took the battery out then put it back in - and then it was working fine again.
Now on day two, I've noticed an immense drain when its in use. Check out the screenshots. I think I'd be lucky to get two hours solid use out of it.
Should I return it, or does this look standard?
The battery needs some time before it reaches it full potential. In the mean time do some searching cause there already are enough battery life threads.
I already searched and read many of the other battery threads but didnt come across anyone who'd experienced the problem I described.

Correct 0-100% about four hours longer on a brand new phone ,
then I tried to turn on the phone nevertheless, and it said it had 100% battery life. I then used it for 2 mins and it dropped down to 0% again and powered down. Then on charge back up to 100% in a couple of moments and back down to 0 % mins later. I took the battery out then put it back in - and then it was working fine again.
bad battery connections clean .
Now on day two - I charged it at 9pm last night and by 9.30 am unplugged it was down to 84%. This with no apps open, no widgets running - nothing. wifi was active though.
Overnight is variable and Wifi uses battery .
then in using it for just 40 mins - doing nothing more than internet surfing through wifi; it drops from 84 - 68%.
Does this pace of battery power loss sound consistant with other users experiences, or should I return the unit and ask for a new one?
I think you have two choices one charge the battery read all the battery posts .
Or return to seller .
Personally i would turn WiFi GPS etc off at night charge phone to 100% see what it drops to by morning .Big drop and it would be returned as your original 100% to 0 drop very quickly suggests a possible fault .

Thanks for your feedback.
I've read through quite a few posts there.
One thing; do we know how long galaxy s2 should be able to be on for if the screen was on the whole time? Is four hours low, or does that sound right??
50% or less on brightness playing SD video should last more then 7 hours , browsing web however can be 5ish+ .
Screen at 100% and browsing web drains battery fast , 4 sounds about right.
It all depends what and how you doing it ?
Well I have it on auto brightness, usually which seems to be around 50%....
and I'm web browsing or just playing around with settings and looking at menus. I'm down to 45% battery and have probably had the screen lit up for maybe 90 mins max??
rest of the time phone has been on idle with wifi on but no network activity...
does this sound below what it shoudl be??
OK I've now attached my screenshot.
Does this battery usage seem normal??
i.e, such extreme drops when the phone is in active use???
All I've been doing is texting, some wifi surfing, and looking at menus.
Search the forum for "Android OS bug". There's no solution yet though. Turning wifi off when you're not using it helps.

Hi there.
I have installed Lite’ning Rom v1.5. Everything is working ok, but yesterday before sleeping I had battery 80 %, today after 6 h it drops to 1 %. I have data transfer turned off, also Gps, WiFi, ... Also before 2 weeks it drops from 100 % to 70 % after some hours with no using.
I have to add, that my battery held up for 4 days once with no particular using.
Any ideas plz?
Thx for answer.
So in the last few weeks, my standby time has gone down a great deal. I have power efficiency and power saver turned on. All of my accounts are on manual sync and I don't sync them because I am trying to get an idea of what is sucking away my power. My screen brightness is set to 20% and I hardly use my phone for calls during the day as I use my desk phone for that. Wifi and bluetooth are disabled. I really have a love/hate relationship with this phone.
Anyone have any ideas?
I'm actually on the same boat. Just this morning I unplugged it...battery said 100% then 4.5hrs later its down to 17%. The phone was running pretty hot too...I even mentioned it too my wife and she said it was pretty hot. Not doing too much with it while it happened. Just woke up ...poked around on xda and fb. Then took my lil one to the bus stop while taking the dog for a walk..come 11oclock my phone was at 17%....I'm gonna wipe and start all over..hopefully it gets whatever is causing the issues. I usually get a good 10-16 hrs depending on use.

download badass battery from the market, it will tell you everything!
Two days ago my amaze started doing what you describe, battery life from 100% to 10% in about 5 hrs MAX, also the phone was very hot, so I pull out the battery but with no results. I notice that 4g was always downloading data, I verified the running services on the phone and discover the calendar apk was rebooting like crazy...the real problem was peep calendar sync was somehow stuck and after turning it to manual voilá! problem solved, temperature goes down, 4g stopped working and battery stopped draining. hope this help think you may found a solution verifying running services.
My amaze is 100% stock.
What helped my battery life was reducing sync frequency. Coming from a MT4G, I was used to updating work mail every 5 minutes. Changed all my sync timers to 1 hour and my battery life improved from 6 hours (including standby) to over 20 hours. I also disabled wifi increased performance (I had previously enabled it) and used medium brightness. A shame, that last one, because the screen is beautiful at full brightness.
That's weird. I have everything synced and I still get about 6 hours a day of use. Of course not heavy use though.
OK, I installed badass battery. I also turned off the weather widget. I removed my phone from the charger at 730am this morning and at 330pm, my battery is at 95% according to badass battery. I also turned off the wallpaper I was using that was displaying 4 clocks in 4 diffent time zones. I wouldn't have thought that those 2 things would drain the battery like it was.
Like I said........Love/Hate relationship.
I installed screen filter from the market last night and used it to turn off the backlight from the hardware buttons, and I also reduced the sync frequency like someone else said (and turned some useless ones off completely). I unplugged my phone at about 8:50 a.m. this morning. It is now 7:53 p.m., and my battery has only lost 22% of its charge (unheard of for me after 11 hours). Don't know which of those helped more, but my battery life is definitely a lot better.

Wow! I wish I had battery power like that. I was on NRG's ROM but found the battery to be draining pretty fast (~7 hours with moderate use). I installed fourth bar sense last night because of all the positive battery reviews I heard. Removed my charger at 700AM, it is now almost 830AM and I am at 88% with light use (drained too fast for 1.5 hours in minimal use IMO). I am trying to control the syncing and its auto-brightness

Auto-brightness will never help you save battery. The best option IMO is 20 - 33% brightness

That's almost too hard to believe! You don't have Gmail?
Are you rooted and using a custom rom?
Really depends on what's running, live wallpaper will definitely suck the life out of a battery but other apps do as well. I installed an auto loan program once and over the next couple of days my battery life seemed possessed, you could almost watch it drain, 60, 59, 58.... so I uninstalling things and when I got to that it went back to normal. Not sure what causes this, sloppy programming, nefarious evil things, who knows. I never have always connected anything, that's just asking for a kick me. I also use custom roms and that really makes a big impact on the plus side. I get a good full day of pretty heavy use out of my amaze but I also have a spare Anker battery just in case, that to me is cheap insurance especially on the road.

I am not sure how that is possible as I wouldn't think the soft key lighting would suck much battery life, not to mention I use that app and get no where near those hours. I know sync will increase it, but that much? Got a screen shot of this claim?
Even in stand by mode, the battery drops more than 30% for me in 8 hours if I forget to charge it overnight.

Better Battery Life
In stock gingerbread I usually got 1 1/2 day of life with 2-3 hours of screen on. With CheckROM v6 I got around 2 days with 4 hours of screen on. Now with ICS and CF-root I got with the first full charge 1 1/2 day with 5:30 hours of screen on!
I froze all the junk that comes with the ROM, I only have a partial wakelock AudioOut_1 that is driving crazy. So far I'm quite happy with it.
Please search the forum we have so many Battery ICS threads already!

This sucks I need to mail app :S
I'm not having any real battery issues myself, but since quite a few people report it I decided to call Samsung and ask if they will provide a rollback to 2.3.5 or what they could do to alleviate the issue.
And the answer was, as a technician had told, to solve the battery issue I should do the following:
1.) Charge the mobile to 100%
2.) Let the device drain battery as "normal" until around 9%
3.) Then open applications that drain battery fast until the phone shuts off
4.) With the phone in off-mode and drained recharge it to 100%, and do not turn on the phone at all during this time
5.) Turn on phone, and the battery life should be back to normal
Seriously, this was the official answer I got from Samsung support technician. Sounds like some old woman's advice, but hey if anyone with battery issue want to try then why not. At any rate it can't hurt

Wifi and 3g on for 1 minute off 15 when screen off. Always on when screen unlocked. Using Green power free. dormancy at 70%. After 12 hrs battery at 40% with moderate use. Screen on about 4 hrs. with 2 hrs of music battery down about 5%. I'd say its best I've had in 5 months.

Finally, i tried this ics with it's official version firmware (XXLPQ), rooted, and no apps freezed/disabled, ... to make more challenging i sync 11 accounts, which ive never done in GB.
I'm actually pleased with how far this stock ics could stand, i got more than 4 hours screen on display... with 40% battery remaining...on wifi for couple hours,..well, to early to conclude...
Phone Stays awake uselessly
Using SLIM ROM 2.8 after switching from HyperDroid v6...the battery seems good..but the Android OS and Mediaserver thing is keeping the phone awake uselessly for a very long time..the 1st cycle running, 16+hours, 1hr 30mins of display..and the phone is staying awake for like 4hrs 30mins+ ..hope to get this solved..will post back after 2-3cycles!
