I've been gone a few weeks and just got back, yet again.
Anyway notice that XDA has a new look and feel now, only problem is every single page I view constantly refreshes.
I can't search, click or post anything without first hitting the "stop" buttton.
Anyone else experience this problem?
I am using Firefox and I've NEVER EVER had a problem with this constant refreshing.
UGHHHHHH IT'S ANNOYING ME!!!
Thanks for any help guys.
PS: I refuse to use IE or any other browser. It's FF all the way.
I'm on FF, no issues here.
It happens all the time. When you hold CTRL and F to search, it'll refresh. When you close the search, it'll refresh. It pissed me off so I revered to the old theme.
That's odd...

It happens on windows but not linux. Very weird.

I'm on windows and on ff, but doesn't happen to me, guess maybe because I was using the theme since it was in beta?
I'm on Windows 7 Home Premium x64 using FF 13.0.1, and am not having any issues with the new theme. There should be a link at the top of the page to revert back to the old theme if you want to give that a try.
Look at the bottom, where the themes are, select the very first 2013 beta not the second one marked 2013 beta 1024, that should fix your problem, seems because I was on the old beta, I still am on the old beta, so the new rollout isn't being used as yet, therefore I didn't get the effects you guys did and I'm not about to try it out to find out, lol.

It seems to freeze up a lot. I will select apps and they do nothing, same with downloads from the market. They just hang at showing them as downloading.
I use SPB Shell and sometimes when it does this it will also stick between pages rather than just flinging to the next it will actually just stop in between pages until you continue to scroll though.
When I select links to open, it does nothing until I actually open the browser. I have only had the phone for a few days and it worked fine, now its doing all these weird things.
Anyone got any suggestions or ideas, let me know otherwise I'm afraid I may be taking it back...
Something may be wrong with the phone. I haven't experienced none of that. Even out the box. Actually its been so fast for me that if I experience the littlest bit of lag it drives me nuts. Might be hard ware related.

LOL dude you have the data guard enabled. There is a setting in their that holds downloads and other things in a queue until you are using WiFi in order to save battery. Just disable that and you'll be on your way And the SPB Mobile Shell problem is probably a problem with the app. Contact the developer and tell them about it. There aren't many nVidia Tegra 2 phones out there so it's not very likely they have done much testing on the architecture. Also, what kind of links are you talking about? Like a link you receive in a text message?

I used to have the same problem with apps not responding after pressing. I was using adw launcher I reverted back to stock and everything is good now. Emailed the developer about the compatability and waiting for an answer but the photon is good otherwise

Yeah it really sounds like you have Data Saver enabled which is located under Battery & data manager in the phone settings. If not you may want to exchange the phone as faulty. I have a lot of issues which my Photon: stuttering during music playback, random reboots (twice in 2 weeks so far), and feedback when using the audio out (buzzing / static). These seem to be common problems but the performance issues you are mentioning do not seem normal from what I have read in these forums.

You would be correct. Although i went from the Hero to an LG Optimus S, and now the Photon.
No problems like that with SPB Shell here. Check the data saver mode. You can also try changing the vm heap to 48 or 64. Mine is on 64 but never had an issue with the stock setting either.
Update...
It does appear that it was SPB Shell which sucks because I was really liking it. I will send a message to the dev and see what happens. The funny thing is that is was working great the first few days that I was using it and then started acting up which was why I didn't thing it was SPB

How do you get it that high? I am using VM Heap Tool and the highest it will let me check is 48.
It's not data saver. Or it shouldn't be. It's an Android flaw.
I've had an Incredible, Thunderbolt and then Photon. Which means I've used a few Android phones over a couple of networks (more if you consider the 4G's as their own networks).
99% of the time my phones work fine. Every so often it will stall downloading an app, or an email will just sit on sending for a longggg time. Unless I am recreating the same conditions over three phones and two networks I think this just happens every once and a while.

I'm glad you found the issue, this right here always tells me it was something you installed that caused the problem. When it worked fine out of the box and then....
Just watch what you install, install one app at a time and see how it flows for awhile after each app. Yes, it may take awhile to get all your apps on but you will know what apps are causing you issues! Like a previous poster said, there aren't many T2 phones, so just be careful what you install!
Glad you found the problem!

I know a hack is available for AOSP-based ICS ROMs. Will it ever be possible port a voice enabled Google Now to a Sense ROM?
The hack works on sense. I've used it on meanrom ics for cdma. Used the voice search for Google Now app too. Worked pretty well. Only thing is after using it, my battery was draining like no tomorrow. Not sure if it's related to Now or not. I got rid of it just in case.

They don't have voice search, speaking to you or you speaking to it, working at all. Sense or aosp. Only works on jb. They made an app to allow you to speak your questions in the meantime

Yes (sort of). When I first tried it, it was over the July 4th weekend, so the thread was very disorganized as people worked to get things going. I actually followed the instructions from one of the posts in the thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28234189&postcount=142
I haven't tried it since the OP has everything posted with the voice search add on. It says in the OP that it only works on AOSP Roms, but the one I used from post 142 worked for me on whichever sense based rom I was running at the time (I want to say MeanROM ICS).
Darn it Clankfu, now I have a new project to try. Time to start a nandroid backup.

Yes, tried it when it first came out, then removed it because it was still buggy. Then tried it again Thursday for a couple days. Had to use the voice search for Google Now app to input searches via voice, but it worked pretty well. Just huge battery hog so I dumped it again forum now.

Been playing with it today a little. It is a little buggy (can't exit by back button and the JB microphone button does not work as the OP from the Google Now thread said). But, I installed it like the thread said and also installed the Voice App download and the secondary voice widget (although I don't know if that one is needed). If you long press on the magnifying glass, you can have the Voice App for Google Now open so no widget is needed.
The searches were not very natural like the Siri clones such as Vlingo. If I said, "call John Doe mobile" it would say searching "call Johnd hoe mobile" and try to search Google. If I just say "John Doe", it finds that contact on the phone and I can press the contact and then go to the contact page, which are more clicks than just doing that by hand. If I say, "run rom toolbox pro", it searches Google, but if I say "rom toolbox pro", it shows the app as an option and I can click on it and it loads. It actually seems to work better if you don't use the voice functionality and just type what you are looking for.
Be extra careful hitting the back button. If you hit that on the cards page, it locks up the app. To correct it, I had to press home, then to do a long home press and swipe the app away. If you want to leave the app and not have it lock, you have to hit home.
It also puts a weather notification in the status bar.
In the end, I agree with gk1984. I think it would be cool if it was built in to the phone, but it feels bolted on and not very smooth on the 3d. I may give it a few days to see if it is as clairvoyant as they say, but I'm not seeing why I should keep it at this point.
But, try it for yourself and see. As I always say, nandroid backups are our friends.
I also tried the Vlingo beta since that is what the S3 voice app is based off of and it seems a lot smoother.
Well hopefully they'll keep developing this and make it a smoother experience. For right now, it doesn't seem like a significant upgrade from the regular stock voice search.
Also, I didn't realize there was a new Vlingo beta. I'll have to check it out.

Well, it's not all bad. You do get the little cards when you need them. But I don't think that makes it worth keeping personally.
So, I tried it for a few days and it killed my battery. My battery today only lasted 4 hours with 2 hours of screen on time. There were 2000 wakelocks trying to get my location, which I think was Google Now.
Yea, that's no bueno.

I don't think Google Now was meant to be an assistant and follow commands, but I could be wrong. I think this is purely an enhanced search feature. They've be reporting the assistant was supposed to release in Q3 or Q4. They only said development was being sped up very shortly before the release of JB. They may still release an assistant later.

So it's half assed like Siri. The whole idea was that it was supposed to answer questions before you asked.

It actually does on my N7. As you keep using the feature, it'll start showing the relevant cards but I'm not sure if a port will work the same way.
I don't know if I'm the only one with this problem but I've had it on all 3 of my Android phones and it is annoying to the point of rage.
Whenever you search for an app in the Android Market, click on one and realize its not the one you wanted, you click back but then the scroll position gets reset and you're at the top of the search results. This is even more particularly annoying whenever you look through your previously installed apps on the Android Market and try to re-install some. Its not fun having to scroll 5 pages each time.
Has anyone found a workaround for this? I would be willing to pay for a fix or patch.

be sure to swipe down to the space key after every word. I was doing this mistake and thinking hey this keyboard is crap
Love the theming options in this keyboard!
Amazing keyboard. Thought the android 4.2 keyboard was the best, then they just released this. I don't think it's really a "flow through space" kind of thing, but more like a fly through time being that you saved so much time instead of going letter for letter. Made the same mistake about not swiping down to the space bar also.
Another update
The Swiftkey Flow beta has been updated again and the current version expires on January 30 so now would be a good time to update if you plan to continue using it.

Just installed 4.0.0.61 on a clean flash of PacMan and it's working fine. In "About SwiftKey Flow" it says "This is a time limited version which expires on Jan 30, 2013".

Sent from my Nexus 9 using XDA Free mobile app
@Scotlac. I'm pretty sure that's not what the op was referring to. He is looking for the feature they advertised at Google I/O where each tab would show up as its own card in the multitasking view. As near as I can tell, that feature has not yet come to fruition, and hopefully is just around the corner.
Ahh, I was not aware of that feature. Thanks Wolf!
I believe it is only enabled for phones.
On a tablet you have direct access to all open tabs in chrome anyway. I think they tested it and thought that it doesnt make things faster or easier.
Let's say you have opened up 10 pages. You would see 10 added entries to your recent apps mixed with all other apps you would take some time to find a specific chrome tab. Just hitting the one chrome instance you see in the current implementatiton and then in chrome select the correct tab seems easier to me. On a phone where you can not see the tabs in chrome without a click it's differernt.
But yes, they should have made it an option.
I read somewhere on g+ that is a setting that had to be enabled.
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk
Nope, I don't think its enabled for phones either. I have yet to see it with any build I've tried on my Nexus 5.
The chrome build on my tablet will will give you the option if you set the LCD density to the same as the nexus 5. I'm not a fan of this feature, but I'm sure someone can hack chrome to make this work. Just needs to be decompiled and forced to phone mode. With DPI like this tablet is unusable(well, usable just horrible looking) I just wanted to see if the functionality was in chrome and it is. I don't have time to mess with it right now, maybe in the future if no one gets on it.
(This is on my nexus 9)
yea i guess its not enabled for tablets. i have it on my nexus 5 running latest lollipop preview and its amazing. i think they should have it integrated into tablets AND still let you see the tabs one BOTH tablets and phones. I loved the system of pulling down in chrome to see tabs, and i think this new system could accompany it nicely. i dont see why they got rid of one for the other, and tablets are just stuck with old fashion tabs
