So far both chrome and chrome beta tabs are not showing up in my multitasking screen. Anyone else experiencing this?

I can certainly post some. I'm at work currently and my N9 is at home.
I'll get them up in a couple of hours.

Here ya go.

Same.... Not getting chrome multitask integration... Only one instance of chrome even with 3,4 website pages open

@Scotlac. I'm pretty sure that's not what the op was referring to. He is looking for the feature they advertised at Google I/O where each tab would show up as its own card in the multitasking view. As near as I can tell, that feature has not yet come to fruition, and hopefully is just around the corner.

Ahh, I was not aware of that feature. Thanks Wolf!

I believe it is only enabled for phones.
On a tablet you have direct access to all open tabs in chrome anyway. I think they tested it and thought that it doesnt make things faster or easier.
Let's say you have opened up 10 pages. You would see 10 added entries to your recent apps mixed with all other apps you would take some time to find a specific chrome tab. Just hitting the one chrome instance you see in the current implementatiton and then in chrome select the correct tab seems easier to me. On a phone where you can not see the tabs in chrome without a click it's differernt.
But yes, they should have made it an option.

I read somewhere on g+ that is a setting that had to be enabled.
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk

Nope, I don't think its enabled for phones either. I have yet to see it with any build I've tried on my Nexus 5.

The chrome build on my tablet will will give you the option if you set the LCD density to the same as the nexus 5. I'm not a fan of this feature, but I'm sure someone can hack chrome to make this work. Just needs to be decompiled and forced to phone mode. With DPI like this tablet is unusable(well, usable just horrible looking) I just wanted to see if the functionality was in chrome and it is. I don't have time to mess with it right now, maybe in the future if no one gets on it.
(This is on my nexus 9)

yea i guess its not enabled for tablets. i have it on my nexus 5 running latest lollipop preview and its amazing. i think they should have it integrated into tablets AND still let you see the tabs one BOTH tablets and phones. I loved the system of pulling down in chrome to see tabs, and i think this new system could accompany it nicely. i dont see why they got rid of one for the other, and tablets are just stuck with old fashion tabs

Wanting to like the phone but...

It seems to freeze up a lot. I will select apps and they do nothing, same with downloads from the market. They just hang at showing them as downloading.
I use SPB Shell and sometimes when it does this it will also stick between pages rather than just flinging to the next it will actually just stop in between pages until you continue to scroll though.
When I select links to open, it does nothing until I actually open the browser. I have only had the phone for a few days and it worked fine, now its doing all these weird things.
Anyone got any suggestions or ideas, let me know otherwise I'm afraid I may be taking it back...
Something may be wrong with the phone. I haven't experienced none of that. Even out the box. Actually its been so fast for me that if I experience the littlest bit of lag it drives me nuts. Might be hard ware related.

LOL dude you have the data guard enabled. There is a setting in their that holds downloads and other things in a queue until you are using WiFi in order to save battery. Just disable that and you'll be on your way And the SPB Mobile Shell problem is probably a problem with the app. Contact the developer and tell them about it. There aren't many nVidia Tegra 2 phones out there so it's not very likely they have done much testing on the architecture. Also, what kind of links are you talking about? Like a link you receive in a text message?

I used to have the same problem with apps not responding after pressing. I was using adw launcher I reverted back to stock and everything is good now. Emailed the developer about the compatability and waiting for an answer but the photon is good otherwise

Yeah it really sounds like you have Data Saver enabled which is located under Battery & data manager in the phone settings. If not you may want to exchange the phone as faulty. I have a lot of issues which my Photon: stuttering during music playback, random reboots (twice in 2 weeks so far), and feedback when using the audio out (buzzing / static). These seem to be common problems but the performance issues you are mentioning do not seem normal from what I have read in these forums.

You would be correct. Although i went from the Hero to an LG Optimus S, and now the Photon.
No problems like that with SPB Shell here. Check the data saver mode. You can also try changing the vm heap to 48 or 64. Mine is on 64 but never had an issue with the stock setting either.
Update...
It does appear that it was SPB Shell which sucks because I was really liking it. I will send a message to the dev and see what happens. The funny thing is that is was working great the first few days that I was using it and then started acting up which was why I didn't thing it was SPB

How do you get it that high? I am using VM Heap Tool and the highest it will let me check is 48.
It's not data saver. Or it shouldn't be. It's an Android flaw.
I've had an Incredible, Thunderbolt and then Photon. Which means I've used a few Android phones over a couple of networks (more if you consider the 4G's as their own networks).
99% of the time my phones work fine. Every so often it will stall downloading an app, or an email will just sit on sending for a longggg time. Unless I am recreating the same conditions over three phones and two networks I think this just happens every once and a while.

I'm glad you found the issue, this right here always tells me it was something you installed that caused the problem. When it worked fine out of the box and then....
Just watch what you install, install one app at a time and see how it flows for awhile after each app. Yes, it may take awhile to get all your apps on but you will know what apps are causing you issues! Like a previous poster said, there aren't many T2 phones, so just be careful what you install!
Glad you found the problem!

[Q] Noob question about Android multitasking

Hi guys, ive looked all around the web trying to find a solution but i cant say i found something yet so here it is.
I have a Nokia N900 right now and as much as i like it, its getting old, so im slowly looking for a new phone.
I feel like i might have been spoiled by the N900 multitasking and i want to know if my requirement for my new are possible to have.
So here it is: Is it possible to multitask with multiple instances of some applications? Really its only for email and sms, so i can for example copy text from one email, paste it in another one that is also open at the same time and can switch back and forth between them. In other words, can i have multiple sms/email conversations opened at the same time (one conversation with bob, one with jack, one with dave...) i often have more than 10-15 of them open at the same time on my n900 and if there would be only one reason for me to keep my phone it would be that.
I looked for multitasking apps with grid view hoping it would do that but from what i see you can only have one of those apps running at once anyway and it might seem crazy but for the number of time I switch between conversations on my n900, like i would using WLM for example, this could be a major dealbreaker for me if its not possible.
I'm sorry if it looks like a stupid question or something but ive completely missed the bus regarding android/ios/bb developpement as i used wm6.5 then switched directly to maemo5 2 years ago.
no one, really?
I don't think it works this way on Android, though you just might be able to find an app that does this.
thanks for the input
Sup Neo! I too went from the N900 to a GSII and I find myself not regretting it at all. There is no TRUE multitasking like the N900, at all from what I have found.
I'm not sure if any apps have been made available for such multi tasking, but I don't think anyone here who doesn't have N900 experience will understand what we mean.
Now it just needs an N900 writer to make something happen for android. Otherwise, I do NOT regret switching over, I absolutely love the speed and freedom of my new phone. The N900 was killing me on simple tasks like sending and receiving MMS, or connecting to the internet without destroying my battery life. No regrets.

Yo. Most Android apps can support multitask on its own UNLESS the developer has puposely disable it.
iOS and Android don't run in Windows style, ie, you can open 2 Mozilla Firefox windows at the same time. Copy and paste work the same as the pc.
So I guess you would have problems in the multiple email opening thing, most phones cannot.
So my suggestion is to keep your N900 as a email phone and change to android or iPhone as your main phone.

Having two phones would suck, and I'm sure he would get over the whole multi tasking issue after a week of using the SII
But I have to say, nothing is as impressive as bouncing around from different windows, and different text messages, and different apps as much as you want.
You just can't substitute for it

Ok OK so Android does have "True" multi-tasking
I would like to see it have Multiple Visible applications running at once and accessible between each other. Maybe that's what we should say when we want to see "Real" multitasking, and not just "true" multitasking.
Once again, still satisfied, but we have a craving that we want to fill as well sometimes.
I would like to see android implement this. Webos(palm/hp) had "card style" applications windows and it was epic. That's said, I'm back to android. Just sayin

Hmm, depends what kind of multitasking you like, the one that actually let's you fully quits apps or one that is fully automated, meaning that you just use it without doing anything and still feel the multitasking, ie you press the home button and it still runs, however you may not notice it, until u use the same app again. However, this means you have to restart every night, to really close the apps, otherwise android will manage for you.
So it means that apps run indefinitely, and when you reopen the app, it will revert to what you did before, you can complete task like scanning eg those with a progress bar and you will see it filling the bar until completion even in the homescreen or other apps, and as I said, unless the developer wants to close the app when you are not using it.

That's Androids Multitasking in a Nutshell, completely understand how it works and it does work well I might add. But it's just the extra step of being able to visually locate the running apps and access them. If you look at your Task Killer for example, you see the running tasks correct? But in order to use them, you have to navigate to the app and click it, no matter where it is on your system.
What I would love to see would be more of a Click and Open option to viewing your running tasks. Sort of like a back screen when you Zoom Out of your desktop on android. The same way you can see all of your desktops, you would be able to see all of your running apps and select which one to open, or to close.

That looks very interesting, is that for ICS? Even if it were for only one instance of each app, it would be more than we have now.
I just hate going from one app, to sending a text, to opening that app again. But I am not dying without it, that's for sure

Yup I just discovered that and it works like a charm. Not a replacement but for now that will satisfy my needs.
Look, I'm not arguing with anyone here, just explaining the idea behind what us N900 users were used to and how useful it would be if implemented in android, this is all.

I suppose this is your first android phone? We're having a discussion here no worries. Yeah but if android were to use the window thing, there would be 10-20 Windows everytime. That's where the homescreen comes, just drag all your frequently used apps there and done, the so called window is done

Andriod multitasks. You can have a ton of apps open at the same time and switch between them. However you can not have more then one instance of the same app running. So while you cant open say gmail and open multiple mails in seperate frames you can still switch between say a web page and mail.
There might be so great mail apps out there that handle mail seperatly, im just not sure which would do it. Bottom line,x the android OS is more then capable of doing what you want. Someone just needs to make or find the app for your needs.

That's just it, that would be the thing I KNOW android doesn't have yet wish it did. We all know we can't have more than one instance of the same app running at once, that much is clear. But having it would be the part I crave, and I'm sure others as well.
Imagine being able to reference to a previous text with someone else whenever you want to while working on another text with someone different.
Like I said, I UNDERSTAND YOU CAN'T DO IT, I just wish you could!
and I wish people would stop explaining it to me lol, I KNOW, and I'm not asking for anyone to tell me how it works. I'm just saying, it would be nice, this is all!
also, being able to bounce from Xterm to open notepads or texts to anything, now that is how you process info on a phone. We'll never be satisfied, but for now I am.
Thanks for the replies fellas.

I'm using it now, it's awesome. No flash support currently though.
I'm using it now,no flash support yet, it seems fast but when i scroll down fast there is a lot of unloaded stuff or takes a sec to show. It doesn't seem as fast as stock at least to me so far well see as i play with it more. It does sync with your desktop.
I don't think it's gonna get Flash either, adobe's not developing it for mobile browsers anymore. Don't know if a 3rd party dev can do anything about that though.

But the implementation of Flash would be Google's doing. Not Adobe's.
Right, Adobe's done updating. But mobile flash is already here. It's all about the browser taking Flash into account, as opposed to Flash supporting a browser isn't it?

Check the requirements.
Do you have ICS?
Adobe already made an official statement and said Flash will not be in Android Chrome browser. Link to info is in the other thread on chrome browser.
Still needs a lot of work. At the moment it is slower than other browsers, doesn't allow you to change user agent and like mentioned, no flash. I was hoping they would have had addon support from the beginning too.
Pain to get to bookmarks. But I'm sure I'm missing something.

It absolutely makes no sense why non-US Prime's cannot get access to Chrome Beta. No sense whatsoever. Android 4.0 has adoption rate of 1% on the market anyway, out of this only fraction would try out Chrome Beta.
I would love to have Chrome downloaded from Market so it could get future updates without having to chase down APK's each time.
This is frustrating. But hey, at least we now have Chrome on Android.

[APP][CM9]Evernote/Kindle UI for ICS

If you're running the latest ICS nightly (since 2012-02-02, I think) and use Evernote, you've probably noticed that it not longer displays the tablet UI.
For some reason, the Evernote app calculates width of the screen is 4.xxxx instead of the 7.xxxx required for displaying the tablet UI.
I've modified the APK to ignore the calculation so that the app displays the tablet UI.
I hope you like it.
com.evernote-2.apk
UPDATE: Some people have asked me to look at the Kindle app too.
Looking into it, but it is a little more complex ...
If you already have Evernote, you'll need to uninstall it before trying to install this one.
Tip:
Copy this to /system/app to ensure you'll never lose it ...
That way if you update the app thru the market and lose the tablet UI you can uninstall updates

Hey, cool! I read about this in your posts on the user thread. How did you do this? I don't know enough to diagnose it, but I would be interested in digging through a couple different apps in this manner.
Do you have access to the block of code you changed or are you dis-assembling this to make this work? This is a common problem across a few google apps as well (chrome, docs, etc) Just wondering if you had any insight into the root problem.
Yeah, that's why I want to know as well. I saw people asking you to take a look at the Kindle app over in the development thread, and I figure instead of buying us dinner you could just teach us how to fish, you know?
Yeah I disassembled the apk.
Essentially, I searched the decompiled files for the word "tablet" ... When I thought I found what I was looking for, I compared it against the logcat.

OMG can you do this for aldiko too?
Hey guys (and probably gals too) I'm sorry I haven't posted anything yet ... Work's been kinda hectic ...it appears I have some time this weekend, so I'll look into the kindle app ... If I have time (if the kindle is easy), I'll look at aldiko too
Since I don't really use these apps .. screenshots would help, I realize they'd be doctored and/or annotated

Can this be done for Opera Mobile Browser also ? Love it !! Many thanks Kem - El !
this would be great. http://blog.the-ebook-reader.com/2011/12/07/aldiko-ebook-reader-app-updated-for-tablets/ The movie on this page shows what it would look like in tablet mode. When you install it on your nook you should be able to see the phone mode.
you can also download the apk from their own website: www.aldiko.com whithout the market.
FWIW the official Kindle app update that just showed up on my GN claims that it's fixed margins and spacing on tablets. I'm not near my Nook, but let us know if it works.

Yeah unfortunately it's not fixed on the Nook Color or the Touchpad.
I'll upload a picture of the Kindle app and describe the differences of tablet mode and phone mode on the Nook. I am very interested in having my NC as well as my TP displaying the Kindle app correctly for landscape mode. Without the split screen with two pages displayed in landscape mode, it's a long traverse to read a line across the entire length if the tablet. Lol
If you still have time to look into this, I would be very grateful. No worries either way.
Thanks for the Evernote fix!

It is fixed in CM9 on the nook color. I have tested it. The margins and line spacing is much improved. You still cannot adjust them, but it is very readable. Make sure you have the very latest version.

Hi leapinar,
I am on the latest version and the Kindle app is not in tablet mode at 160 dpi. I do see the changes you mentioned. However just to be clear, when you hold your Nook in landscape orientation does the screen split and have two side by side pages like an open book?
Edit: I disassembled the apk, but it is not clear at all to me what is triggering the tablet view/install. I tried a few edits and reassembled the apk and nadda.. At this point I am just blindly throwing darts..
Guys,
Sorry about disappearing ... I was out of town for work for a couple of days and busy on a new work project.
I've looked at the new version of the Kindle app, and yes the margins are better, but having the ability to adjust them like the phone would be ideal.
I'm looking at the code to see if I can just swap out the tablet reader view with the phone view, giving us the phone menu options.
A little slow going ...

Would just like to second this - the app is actually semi-unusable without it being switched because there's no way to access 'menu' (no hard button on the NC and no softbutton shows up in the app).

Scroll Position in Android Market

I don't know if I'm the only one with this problem but I've had it on all 3 of my Android phones and it is annoying to the point of rage.
Whenever you search for an app in the Android Market, click on one and realize its not the one you wanted, you click back but then the scroll position gets reset and you're at the top of the search results. This is even more particularly annoying whenever you look through your previously installed apps on the Android Market and try to re-install some. Its not fun having to scroll 5 pages each time.
Has anyone found a workaround for this? I would be willing to pay for a fix or patch.

This annoys the living **** out of me. I think Google just needs to fix it. Report it to Google or something.

Drives me crazy too, such an oversight.
I'm keen to hear any solutions...
