Is there a way to add a word to your dictionary while typing it without having to leave the screen you're on, go to the settings and manually add the word? I tried long pressing a word in the prediction selection area as well as long pressing a word that is underlined as misspelled. I got nothing so far.

So, I like to use an app called Inserty to paste in custom phrases I use often. TO do so, you long press in whatever text entry box your in and select Inserty, make your insert, long press and switch back to your keyboard..
In the Prime, long pressing in any text entry box does not allow the choice to select and change input options? WTF?
In Honeycomb and ICS, input methods was changed from long-pressing to an icon in the notification bar.
Tap that icon to select a different input method.
I feel so dumb, thanks for that, I never noticed it. I am still using my OG Droid. I like the old school way better but thanks!
Thanks for clearing this up...been playing with emojis
Not quite sure how to explain this. But on my bb I could go into the dictionary and add my own words. For example, if I typed na(space) it would automatically come up "sorry not available". Does anyone know.how to do this on an android phone? I tried to find an option on my Samsung fascinate and droid charge, no luck.

Some keyboards allow you to do acronyms like Slide It I think.
Smart Keyboard Pro allows you to do this.

You can add them as you go on swype.
You can add them as you go with the stock keyboard too. As soon as you start typing a down arrow appears. Hit that and at the bottom there is a button that says add word. Or you can you can through the settings menu, language and keyboard, touch input then to personal dictionary.
You guys are misunderstanding... Basically he wants to add shortcuts... For example typing abc I can make it type out "my name is cares"
Not sure how long this has been happening for, probably since I got my S3 actually, or when Swype released the last update.
I've installed Swype Beta, currently on version 1.0.3.5809 but it's not working correctly.
When I enter a word wrong (or rather when Swype doesn't guess the word I tried to enter) and carry on, I used to be able to tap the incorrect word later, tap the Swype key, and then the word would be highlighted for me to either swipe again or type in a correction.
This no longer happens all the time - about 50% of the time instead of highlighting the word it just jumps to the left hand side of the word. This means I then have to move the cursor back to the right hand side of the incorrrect word myself, delete it and type again.
This is extremely annoying. Anyone else experiencing this?
Hi,
how can I get the popup away if I type in a word (which is not recognized) and have to select it from the suggestions? I will asked in the popup if I want to add the word into my personal dictionary. As the popup hide the text it's very annoying. The only way I've found until now to tap on the Back-Button (not the Back-space!), but then also the keyboard disappears, and I have to tap into the text to write further.
Is there any other way to say "No, will NOT add this word!"?
regards
Hi, I have switched to android after 2 years. I remember earlier in android there was an option to add new words to gboard personal dictionary while typing itself, gboard used to underline unrecognised words in red,, by long pressing those words one can add it to dictionery. But now unrecognised words are underlined in blue and long pressing will only allow cut/copy/paste etc, and long pressing unrecognised words in suggestion bar shows only remove option,, no way of directy adding to personal dictionery. Please reply..
