Hide Root - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Hello everyone i Just found out the TF201 is compatible with Brighthouse networks Live TV app, after downloading and installing it i have hit two issues, the first being it realized adb was on, simple I turned it off, second it popped up again saying the device was rooted and it would not run on it, so How if possible can i hide root?, the built in temp unroot in superuser didn't work

you can always try to use temp unroot via voodoo root keeper
j/w hwo does it check if you have root or not? does it ask? if it does, can't you simply decline the root access?

Wrong thread!

It dosent ask, it just has a pop up that says "Your device is rooted and unusable for watching Live TV" it said the same thing about ADB but that was an easy fix

as i said you can just do a temp-unroot using voodoo root keeper
did you try that?

Voodoo doesnt work either, I tried uninstalling the program and reinstalling it after temp unrooting

There's a way to run google play movie rental on a rooted device by making some changes. I can't remember exactly what the solution is but I will do some google searches and find it, and I'm thinking the same solution or something very similar would work on your brighthouse app.

Any news on this? I have a Galaxy 10.1 BHN doesn't work because it's rooted. Why do they even bother to do that? Scared they might record their shows & movies? I mean, why else?

[Q] How to unroot TP or fool TWC App to think it's unrooted?

Hey everybody, I think that this question is going to pop up more often since yesterday (April 17) Time Warner Cable released updated version of their app that now allows you to stream live tv on your ICS device.
The problem is that they implemented a mechanism that checks if your tablet/phone was rooted, if it was they show you message that the app is not supported on rooted devices.
Is there a way to work around this? I would not mind unrooting my TP to test this app. How can this be achieved?
Thanks for any tips!

Same problem with Sky which I would like to use.
Try to set the root permissions to adb only in the settings. Its probably on adb and apps. Let me kw if it works cuz I might get the app then.

Try the app permissions denied in the market and see if you can disable the root check.

There is a patched TWC app that doesn't check for root. I found it in the Galaxy Nexus forums and have the apk for phone. Let me find the post and I'll put it up for everyone.

I changed the name of superuser.apk. Turned debugging off.
App starts fine. Can look through the guide and everything but black screen when I try to watch Live TV. No matter which channel I change to. I haven't seen this issue in any other thread yet. I just installed cm9 for first time, so its fresh.
edit: of course I found the answer a minute later after this post, after i searched for an hour. of course. i had to change test-keys to something else
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29685497&postcount=419
1) Use Root Explorer or a similar file explorer app to rename Superuser.apk to Su.apk
2) Open build.prop (/system/build.prop) with Root Explorer or a similar file explorer app and rename test-keys to dEris-badass (lol)
3) I left USB Debugging enabled (some need to disable this)
4) Log in and watch some TV =]

At least you got it to install, I get the message telling me that it's incompatible with my device. However, the TWC TV app (which it is likely rebranded from) installs fine. Just doesn't do much good when I have Brighthouse.
Brightouse is claiming "A rooted device does not allow us to set the permissions the LiveTv app needs to function properly".
Is this not such a bunch of crap. If their coders were worth a gain of salt they should have no problem changing or modding any permissions their app requires.
I'm guessing they are scared that rooted devices are able to record anything on the desktop. Sadly there are apps to help non-rooted devices to record the desktop too. So what would be the point of even searching for the xbin folder, which again I'm guessing that they are doing.. If this in fact what they are doing, could we add an app to rename that folder when the BH app is launched and rename it back when it closes?

Sounds like a bunch of bull****. A bit pissed that it aint working because of the stupid rooted crap. Someone has to find a way to modify the installation of this app but who will????
Thanks guys for the responds. Like everyone is saying it is a bunch of BULL****, but hopefully someone will come up for a solution to break this. By the way I started thinking why does it matter if our phones are rooted to B.H.. We pay them for service to our TV/Internet not our phones. It is not of their business what we do with our phones and if we made a decision to root, they should not block this app. to us. We pay the same amount that the person that did not root and they get to use this App.
I tried a little but the program won't get far enough along to help because usb debugging was enabled. I was using eclipse to monitor the log file while I launched the app.
There's a somewhat interesting (too much iFruit for me) discussion here http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r27195196-iPhone-Android-tablet-users-get-Bright-House-TV-App-Joy- on the subject. Looks like the reason behind the ICS only is because of DRM. Is it possible, the same reasoning was applied to devices being rooted or not?
the TWC app got a fix for rooted users, any chance there will be a rooted-compatible apk for the brighthouse app?
Wahoo!!

Watch movies off Google Movie rentals and more on Rooted phones

Hi all
Create a cwm back up of your phone before trying this.
Found a app that actually hides root so that you can use google movie rentals/ skygo restrictions and any app that checks that you are rooted.
It temporary unroots the phone and can restore su after you finish film etc...
Make sure to Backup Root in the app.
This hasn't been tested yet on my wildfire as wife at work with it but will test soon as she home.
It does say works on some phones. If you want to test it before I do search google play for ''OTA RootKeeper'' Its the first app that actually does what it says for me well on my sg2.
Note if something goes wrong Su you can restore in app, failing that reflash a backup rom

i tried this when skygo 1st came to android and it doesnt work.i found an alternative (hideroot) but it disabled my root altogether and the enable root option never gave me my root back, even the dev of the app was baffled and eventually stopped replying to my needs to regain root.it did however allow me to have a nandroid for my skygo needs.
something i never tested but its been mentioned over in the skygo thread is the supersu app which allows you to hide root also i believe but i never got round to testing it.
Thanks will try it
Can you keep us posted with the results about SuperSU?
EDIT:
I have found this app is used on the Xperia range instead of standard SU app, any ideas why?

Hide Root from Brithouse tv app?

Hello all
I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a way to hide the fact my EVO is rooted from the bright house tv app?
All the I devices in my house can use it but when I open it on my phone it won't work and says the reason is because it's rooted.
Is there anyway to hide the fact I'm rooted from this one app without actually unrooting?

Have you tried supersu, it has a hide feature that should work. Also for reference might want to post in q&a next time. Good luck with the app
well if its like the time warner app all i gotta do is disable supersu and i can stream tv.
I'm running meanrom and have supersu, but don't see an option to hide. The app itself doesn't request root it just checks if you're rooted.
I haven't tried disabling supersu, how do you do it?
Thanks for the first help.
its on the settings tab, uncheck enable superuser. thats all i have to do to get the time warner app to stream.

Thanks, that's what I meant, lol.
I just finished doing that And cleared App data for the bright house tv app and supersu and it still says I can't do it on a rooted device.
Why so much hate towards root, I mean I have to log in and can only use it at my own house where I pay for my services so I don't see what the problem is.
Is that check something that can be pulled out of the apk itself?

Well, I disabled supersu.
Cleared bright house tv app data in settings.
Booted into recovery and cleared cache and dalvik.
Still no go as far as hiding to it the fact I'm rooted. It still knows I'm rooted and won't play.
I'm not about to unrooting for this one app either. Just wished it would work. Damn u bright house

[Q] I know nothing. Please Help?

Hello everyone,
I apologize for making this the noobest posts of all, but I know nothing at all. I've rooted my Kindle once, didn't know how, didn't know why, or what I gained from it. I only wanted to be able for starters to change the hideous lock screen pictures, then the apps, then install google play apps and ended up with a messed up Kindle Fire HDX.
Passed days looking for guides to restore it, and everytime tutorials were expecting me to have TWLR or other things that I didn't..
I ended up doing a factory reset and removing stuff manually.
So now, what is my Kindle FireHDX Situation? It's version is 13.3.2.4 and I simply want to open it up to more possibilities, I want to add apps that are not original from Amazon, I wanna be able to access it and add files and docs and book that otherwise he wouldn't let me.
I tried searching for guides, and just got lost between Thor, Apollo, and who know what else. Also, I'm on a Mac and that narrows down so many tutorials..
Can anyone help me out figuring what I really want? How to obtain it?And what would be the best way?
My wife has an iPad and basically can do anything, I have a kindle and I can't even put an Alarm Clock on it!!
I wanna be able to use google play apps, access like with ES Explorer, and whatever else could be useful. I just find going through all these threads very difficult and for people with advance knowledge.
Can I hope for someone?

well done for asking. I'm no master but one thing i will tell you, is NEVER EVER, and I repeat, EVER modify the build.prop. In case ytou don't know what that is, it is the file that defines the whole device, in which the whole description of the kindle is. I modified mine, and to cut long story short- I don't have a kindle anymore. The easiest and safest way to root kindle is TowelRoot or VRoot, but be very, extremly careful. Once you root kindle, you can get Gplay apk and install it. https://mega.co.nz/#!hJ8ynBKI!aYGtlxZNcO4BvDSsNyAk7DOj6ppHE5apNaVcAktPmAk
Here is the link to mega. you can download the app and install it as you would with any sideload app. To do that you need to locate it using ESFile explorer which you can download on the Amazon market. then click on the file in downloads, and install it. viola.
INSTRUCTIONS (at your own risk)
Step one:
Since you have a Mac you can get virtualbox. It is hard, but it is doable to install Windows on that, or Linux if you are a pro. or there are apps that you can buy to run windows on Mac, which cost like 20 dollars I think?
Step Two: Get V-Root. http://www.mgyun.com/en/getvroot NOTICE: Many devs you MUST be carefull, so do so at your own risk. V-Root is kinda infamous. It works though!
Step 3: Connect kindle to Mac and click the big button on V-Root, which is a one-click rooting software that worked for me. For me personally, I didn't get it from first time, i tried numerous times. If things don't work, do not try anything by yourself, that is how I bricked the kindle. Follow step by step instructions. Really.
Step 4: Once you have gained root, get Titanium backup, and backup your files. But be extremly carefull. My personal suggestion, just get Gplay, SU, and a launcher to add to the experience. If you don't particularly care for custom ROMs, don't get them, stick on this one and be safe.
Step 5: Optional, but usefull. You should block the update websites from which the updates come from- but that doesn't necessarily do the trick, if you connect to someone elses wifi. http://androidcowboy.com/2014/01/how-to-block-kindle-fire-hdx-updates/
this might be useful. now please, be very careful, if you don't know something, don't do it. Ask : don't mess with ROMs. Have fun!
ADVICE.
to gain a nexus-like experience you can get launchers, the best ones are nova launcher and apex launcher, they genuinely give an android experience. you can set them as ALWAYS so you never see that ugly amazon launcher ever again. you can also get custom lock screen, and forget you have a kindle, power of kindle- looks of nexus. also, even without root you can get some launchers, something the iPad can't. Just saying XD .
there are many apps out there, but be carefull with what you pick.
Clock?
Widgets? You can get all that in the play store- if the play store is there, it is going to be just fine in this sense.
