Hi all,
Ive got the UK GB S3 and have rooted it to remove all bloatware etc...
I have sinced removed the root, so I can use barclays ping it,
recently a couple of OTA updates were pushed to my phone and with CWM installed
the phone obviously cannot apply the updates in download mode.
Is there any way to download the updates and install them to the phone manually?
(Ive removed kies - but can put it back on if required).
Thanks in advance

Either use Kies or flash the Update through Odin

What I mean is that, now I have rooted, will I always have to update to newer versions via this forum or will it update via SE Update service as it would have done before I rooted?
Cheers
Yea 100% sure you will be able to get all updates . rooting doesnt prevent you from getting updates . when your phone will get updates you will just lose the root since new update is being installed and old one is gone.So go ahead and root it
Hi peeps
I have installed clockwork recovery and rooted my s3, now an update notifaction is redy for my s3, I downloaded it but did not install it, now I cant get rid of the update reminder, the phone is o2 contract but would apeare to be unlocked as I put my tmobile sim in it and it all works fine.
My question is, how to get rid of the update reminder?
Is it safe to let the phone do the update?
OTA firmware update ???
OTA updates generally fail to install on rooted phones .
Update can be done via KIES or from stock rom threads .

I have the GT-I9300 international phone, with the New Zealand-based stock ROM installed. I rooted this phone with ODIN straight out of the box (it came on 4.0.4) and the root went fine, CWM worked. However, when I was notified of an available OTA update, no matter how many times I try to install it, the device will reboot into CWM and say that the signature verification has failed.
I have tried to disable this check, but the device seems to "forget" that setting. I've also tried installing the OTA update through Kies, which just gives an "Unknown Error".
Is there any solution to this, to get the update installed?
I'm presuming here that the OTA update is simply an update and not a new firmware version entirely? The download was only 20MB.
Kies is your solution
Or downloading and flashing an updated firmware
OTA doesn't work on rooted phones...
At least it didn't on the ones I used and tried...
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
If your phone is just rooted then OTA will work fine, the issue is when you install a custom recovery.
the OTA will fail at the flashing stage because the custom recovery will not be able to flash the OTA image (or the image won't let it).
Options are to use Kies, or better yet, download the rom on your PC and learn to use ODIN which is super easy anyway... and essential if you want to learn the root side of your phone better
Latest Chainfire root supposed to allow OTA .

My SGH-I337 (ATT GS4) has been rooted for a month or two now but lately it's been having issues so I tried to restore it to stock. But, I manually removed the root via SuperSU so I would be able to update to 4.4 (I've been stuck on 4.2.2 because I was never notified 4.3 came out). Every time I update OTA it fails at 25%, so I tried via Kies. My firmware isn't even supported to update like that. I tried unrooting with Odin but that also didn't work. I've restored it to factory settings now, but the boot image still says custom and I can't use Yellow Triangle because that doesn't support locked AT&T basebands (which I read is unfixable). Is there ANY way I can fix this and get 4.4????
TL;DR
My phone is too rooted to OTA update but not rooted enough for Odin to work and I want KitKat

So here's the deal...
I have a brand new G850W I wanted to root. I powered it on without SIM and connected to wifi. I did not add any account info for anything... Play, Google, Samsung, etc... The phone immediately started downloading the Samsung OTA update file. At this point I powered down the device before download of updated file completed. I did this because I had another phone that unexpectedly(and unwanted) installed the update and I lost my root opportunity. After the power down I did some research and found a successful root process via CF-Auto-Root. I used CF-Auto-Root successfully. After updating SuperSU app and opening it, it detected KNOX and successfully deactivated KNOX. Now I have a clean, rooted G850W.
CF-Auto-Root only flashes a side loaded recovery to complete the task of root and then erases that recovery and leaves you back with the original recovery... A few moments into playing with the phone, OTA started and completed the update file download and is requesting to run the OTA update install. This install is no doubt Lollipop.
My fear as you may have guessed by now is... If I move forward with the update on the now rooted phone, will the Lollipop update
1) remove root
2) reactivate KNOX
3) update and lock the bootloader
???????
'Cause then, ya know... I'll be screwed'a'rama........
Any thoughts????????
