desktop view - Galaxy S III Q&A, (US Carriers)

Is there anyway to view it desktop mode instead of the mobile view mode in the browser? I have the desktop mode checked but it still views it in mobile view.

You should clear cache probably.
And try Chrome and/or Opera.

I did the desktop check box & the cache idea when I got the phone but it still goes to the mobile sites. My old phone had the "about:useragent" to get it to work but it does not look like this phone has it.
Any other ideas?

EDIT: And it's on the market now....
is it true you can't change the user agent
There's a setting in about:config, where you can change the user agent setting. Haven't tested it yet, though
EDIT: Check the thread in the OP again, there are better instructions in there. I can't get google to show me the classic view, but it seems to work for other sites

There is also a new release version of Firefox 4 today for mobile (and one for desktop as well btw).
There is an add-on that allows you to change user agent back and forth, seems a better idea, since I want mobile display for some pages and desktop display for others.

,,also changing user agent strings was easy and effective using the method posted
to enable destop view
1 about:config
2 scroll to user prefs
3 scroll to user agent and enter Opera/9.80 (Linux; en) Presto/2.7.81 Version/11.00
"to enable smooth scrolling"
4 scroll some more and check smooth scrolling
5 scroll down more and hit save
if flash isnt working
1 close opera with task killer
2 uninstall flash from market
3 reinstall flash from market
4 open opera
5 enjoy flash
This is MUCH faster than DolphinHD for me on stock rooted 1.1. Can't load the new Firefox Mobile beta because I uninstalled the old one via manage applications. As others have said, you CAN change the user agent. I changed mine to the iPad, which works well so far.

Another tip: Uncheck "Scroll is Pan" in User Prefs.
Problem I have with Opera Mobile is that vertical scrolling is not locked. Disabling Scroll is Pan helps a little bit.

Also after you've zoomed in and text-wrapped by double-tapping, then scroll up and down with the consequent left or right panning of the text column, double-tapping an area of text again re-centers the text column.

Web browser that gives full browsing ability?

I'm currently using Opera and I really like it however I notice that when I'm on certain websites it still treats everything like its a mobile browser. (yes I realize it is). Like Facebook for example, it doesn't bring up that chat functions at all. Is there a browser that has true full blown browsing ability as if your on a regular comp?
In Opera you can change user agent and then all web pages are loaded like on desktop!
In Dolphin HD, they even have a widget to switch back and forth between mobile and desktop user-agents at the touch of a single button, so you can go with whichever works better on the nook for a particular page. Mostly, I keep it set to desktop, but occasionally a site looks better as android.
found that TUT : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12285171&postcount=1
Personally, I prefer Miren. Opera is awesome, but its UA is typically passed as IE and Opera doesn't render all IE fixes the same as IE. Miren can be set to view as desktop and it still uses the webkit engine for rendering.

Unfortunately, no. Not with this version. Not that anyone's been able to find, anyway. One of my peeves with Opera. It's just too damn good to give up, though.
If U dont want to change hidden settings for Opera, why dont U just use Dolphin which has this as a standard option?

to modify user agent.
1. download opera mobile from market (not mini)
2. open it and in the url bar type--> opera:config
3. scroll down to the second to last option 'User Prefs'
4. expand it and look for 'Custom User-Agent', it will be empty.
5. enter --> Opera/9.80 (Linux; en) Presto/2.7.81 Version/11.00
6. scroll down way to the bottom and hit save, close, and re-open.
7. go to cnn (full site) and compare scrolling with stock vs. opera mobile. much better.

Anytime I've ever used Opera anything, I've had the issue, I'm just thinking because Opera is based in Europe.

Evo3d Default desktop browser tip.

Don't know if this has been covered or not here but I figured I'd post if it hasn't and for users who are not aware of this. If it has then someone let me know and I'll ask for the thread to be removed.
Now I use the default browser alot because "Imo" its a nice and fast browser and suits my needs. But I was frustrated when I went into settings and unchecked mobile view in the default web browsers settings and yet some web pages still came up as the mobile version. So after some google searching I stumble upon a nice little tip. I'm sure more advanced users/members might already know this but it was new to me. Henceforth.
To make the default web browser show desktop mode for all websites try this.
Open up the web browser. Then in the address bar type
about:debug and press the "go" key on your keyboard.
Then hit menu and choose the setting option for the browser.
Then scroll down and you wil see a new list of settings. Then choose the one that says "UA String" tap on that and choose desktop. Then back out of your settings menu and go back to the address bar and type
about:debug
Then hit the search key/arrow next to the address bar and it will return the browser back to its normal state.
However the setting will not stick if you reboot or close the browser via app manger. ""I think as long as you keep the browser running it should stick"" However the settings do remain they just have to be activated again. So say you reboot or close the web browser. When reopen it just type
about:debug and hit the go key.
Then immediately after that just type
about:debug and hit the search key/arrow
to reactivate them again.
It might seem like alot but it actually can be done in just a few seconds and its worth it to me. And I'm sure there are alot of browsers on the android market that can make it alot easier but I perfer the stock browser. And it very well could be different methods of achieving this but this but, I don't have the knowledge and this way seems to work. Also if you check the "smooth rotate" option it give the browser a nice little animation when going from landscape to portrait or vice versa. Also it makes switching views a bit faster. I'm still searching google for what the rest of the options are for and what's the risks and benefits of them because I don't know. So I advise not to altar anything your not familiar with. But if you do happen to know what the other options are for and if they could speed up the browser please post the info. As I wrote above this if this has been covered elsewhere post it and I will ask a mod to remove this thread asap. Well hope some members with the evo3d will find this helpful or fun.
Updated 05/06/12
I've also noticed this.
When I enable WiFi power lock it give you better download speeds.
Also if your like me and download a lot of files via stock browser after a while I noticed that my downloads will be a tad slower than say three weeks ago even after I cleaned cache via app and via recovery. What I've noticed is that the stock browser keeps a record of all your downloads. If you tap menu then select
downloads you will see what I mean. Now these are linked to your sd card's download folder. So what I did was create a download2 folder on my sd used root explorer to move all of my files from my download folder to my download2 folder. Then I reopened the stock browse and went to downloads and checked all of my downloads
"It was quite a few" and deleted them. After that I rebooted and the stock browser was back to downloading at the usual speeds. Not saying that this effected the download speeds to much but I want every bit of performance out of my phone Lol. If you try this don't forget to move what ever files you have in your download folder on your sd to a seperate folder because if you don't and you delete them from the browser you will erase them from your sd as well. Hope members can find this useful.
just tried it...didnt work for me. once i input about:debug, I got "about:%debug". what am i missing?
Interesting. I couldn't get any advanced settings. In fact, couldn't get stock browser into the debug mode. Went into settings to clear cookie data, cache, history and form data to get into debug mode. It still won't go into debug. But now I get all websites in desktop mode!
That's my story and I am sticking to it. Leaving it alone.

Yes, I see that now. But, I was able to enable always desktop by just clearing cookie data, cache, history and form data. And of course deselecting enable mobile view. I suspect the form data may be the key.
Now espn, profootballtalk, engadget, gizmodo all show in desktop mode on my phone. YMMV.

Oh ok cool. A did you check out the smooth rotation option?? Also single column view screws up how the website looks so I left that one unchecked. Also to the way you mentioned in your earlier post that way worked for me as well. But an example of how only some websites still appear mobile was when I was using the mobile app engadget and one of the articles had a link and when I clicked on that link the site appeared as mibile. When I checked my settings they were all the same as you mentioned above. That's why I started my srarch. Also it happened with the news app I use wtmj4.

Help with setting a browser as default

First I know how to clear the defaults in the settings in the apps section. After you do that when you click a link your browsers you have downloaded come up and can select which one you one and check the bottom for default. I have been using Dolphin since I got the phone, but I wanna use ICS browser plus browser. I went to the apps and cleared defaults under Dolphin so now each time I click a link it directs me thru the stock browser without even asking which one I wanna use. I always keep going to the apps the stock browser and clear the cache and clear the default, but after I back out and click a link it takes me right back through the stock browser. I go right back to the settings and its still showing its the default browser even after 10 secs earlier I cleared it. Any suggestions as why this is happening

I use Dolphin too. UNFORTUNATELY, you'll have to toggle the desktop top switch every time the mobile version tries to load.
1. Load the Facebook page.
2. When you see m.facebook.com in the browser, immediately stop the load.
3. Toggle the desktop switch to Android mode and then right back to Desktop mode.
4. Type the letter 'F' which should pull up the desktop version of Facebook if you were ever able to access it. If not, go into the browser bar and edit out the 'm.' in the mobile Facebook web address and then load the page.
Change from mob
You have to open your browser and open the menu. Make sure that view desktop site has a check next to it.

Try using Google Chrome. It's not as feature packed or convenient like Dolphin, but it won't give you Facebook mobile issues either.

It has nothing to do with the phone itself. It's facebook's ungodly coding that causes the issue. It probably isn't triggering a cookie that reminds the site to load in desktop version. You can confirm this by trying to do the same on any other mobile site (try Android Police) you'll see it sticks
What will work 100% of the time is what someone mentioned above: setting your user agent (if your browser allows you to) as something like Mozilla. This tricks the website into thinking you're on desktop and never even knows you're on a mobile site.
I downloaded Opera browser as suggested above and I don't have any problems anymore.

I think the issue is either with the phone or SENSE. I still have my EVO 3D and the Samsung Galaxy S2. Both of those phones are still running on Gingerbread and neither one of them have Facebook mobile issues.
