Root question - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am trying to root my friends s3. Seems to have worked but instead of having the normal options in recovery mode, its missing "install from sdcard"
I haven't done anything different to how I went about rooting my s3.
Anyone?

Has you GS3's friend a SD card plug in at least ? Using CWM or CWM Touch ?
Else reflash CWM via Odin could be a solution.

When we first initially flash via odin, no. Tried to reflash but no luck.

hmm... seems like you messed up with the actual root process somewhere, try ref lashing again, but remember to follow the steps TO THE LETTER, otherwise i can't seem to know of any other fix.

Flash the unroot package that Chainfire provide to cancel all you have done so far in the rooting process then try once more from the beginning.

Sent from my Liberty using xda premium
i was able to gain root again and cwm but when i try to flash aokp 4/4 it gets hung up on the samsung galaxy s screen but when i flash 4/3 it works fine. Possibly corrupt download? oh and i wipe everything this time.

You fail. Hard. Read the stickies before thinking you know what to do.
I do know what to do . I had flashed back to stock completely. And everything seemed OK straight stock then I rooted it and I couldn't get it to work so I reflashed cwm but for some reason it is still giving me this problem. I have read over and over. I've returned to stock. Tryed entropy 512 kernel cleared cache davlik factory reset all of it. I've been customizing phones for a year now and am just wanting to get into developing or atleast learning. O just never came across this before that o couldn't fix by one of the above methods. I'm sorry if.I.am not.to.your standard or a pro but I like to think I.know what I'm doing. As this is only my second post as a question I figured it be legit.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda premium
the kernel contains the recovery....
flash entropy's daily driver, then reboot to recovery
STOP USING ROM MANAGER
your question has been answered a thousand times on here....and explained in extreme detail...you should read a little more
Yes i know it does but it still wouldnt work. I figured it ojt last nigbt i had a extra bootloader file which wouldnt let me reset the counter and on top of it my phone wouldnt fully cwm becaise i had a recovery file back up it kept reverting back to. I wiped everyrhing again even sd and this time i was able to flash. Sorry to bother you but i didnt see anyrhong anout tjis imparticulaur

Flash back to stock completely again, then use Mobile Odin to flash Entropy's DD. It's the easiest way.
Stop touching yourself. Or this is gonna keep happening.
Sent from my SGH-I777
Hahaha yes thank you mattdm i fixed it but next time i will try this way i actually just got movile odin so learning its in and outs now. And if i keep touchibg myself i cant be succesful at this ? damn

Error 7 Stuck in CWMR :(

Apologies if this is in the wrong place.
I have been googling and reading for the past 2 hours trying to figure out how to fix this.
I have recovery v5.5.0.4.
I tried to flash the stock rom and it gives me error 7.
I then tried flashing a CM rom with the same error.
It apparently will not mount my external even when I select "mount external" so I have no access to my nandroid.
No ADB and no rom make for a very expensive paperweight
all help is VERY appreciated
Try mounting the internal? Also worst case scenario you can just Odin back to a stock rom too you know.
Good luck!

I can access the internal which is where my two roms are located, but neither work. Do you flash the rom with odin the same way you flash a kernal?
Yeah man you just download the tar file and flash that sucker in Odin, quick fix for anything bad.

Is my phone bricked?

So I was doing the Odin flash part, and after it passed, my phone would of rebooted, but it just stayed on the samsung logo. So i restarted it, and its still happening. I can't go into recovery mode.
Yes it sounds like a soft brick. You can usually fix this problem with a USB jig.

Crap my friend doesnt have an SD card. he only has internal. How can he put a ROM in the phone?
Do you havea link to a thread? I can't find anything how to fix a soft brick.
Ima try this
Part 5: De-brick
1. First thing you should do is to try access CWM recovery (see above), then either restore a previous nandroid backup you made, flash a working rom that's on your sdcard, or put a working rom on your sdcard via your PC 's card reader and flash.
2. If you can't fix it via recovery, then put your phone into download mode. Flash a stock rom via Odin (see above)
3. If your Note won't turn on at all, you may be facing a hard brick.
4. You can also purchase a mini-usb jig which will put your phone into download mode even when above methods fail. I personally bought this one for $1.60 shipped. But basically any jig for the Galaxy phones should work.
That shouldn't matter, did you try going into download mode? If you can't then you need to by a jig, they aren't that expensive or you can make one yourself!

Hey, Ultimate. I'm the friend that's in need. When I open Odin, do I keep the two ticked items the way they are? Or do I untick F. Reset Timer?
Keep them, just make sure re-partition isn't ticked and if it's only one file flash in the PDA section

OK that's a good sign, first time boots do take a while because cache and data need to be created so be patient, if it takes more than ten mins, go back into recovery wipe cache and dalvik cache and try again, if that doesn't work then also wipe data

You must have been patient and see if you already have cwm installed if you do then no need but if you don't i suggest you find out other ways as ROM manager isn't very good I just helped someone out who was having cwm issues and they flashed it using rom manager but you can try if you wish

I am reaching out for help. ODIN not flashing, and bricked.

Hello fellow members.
I have an S4 SCH-I545
I feel as if I'm out of options, I have read many forums for the past 3 days and cannot find a method that works. I am currently soft bricked and cannot get ODIN to successfully flash anything. When I pull the battery and try to boot it immediately takes me to ODIN Mode, and I can't seem to get into anything but that. Just recently it has given me a new image that says, "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again." I don't exactly know what it is referring to but I have Kies and there is only an emergency recover area and that does nothing.
Am I out of options? Any help is extremely appreciated.
If I left anything out let me know.

Alright, I know this is not the help/question/noob thread, but I'm I'm a pickle. Redirect me if you must. Verizon s4 that was on nc5 baseband-i don't know the bootloader, but it was 4.4.2 if that helps. Rooted with towel root and twrp through too manager. Yeah, I know that's where the problem came from. So now the phone is (hopefully) in a soft brick state stuck in down load or Odin mode. Odin recognizes the phone. I don't care to keep DAT or retain root, I just was it to function. Is the nc5 full wipe with the pit my correct next step? Thank you in advance, razz me if you must, I deserve it

Absolutely there is hope. We just need to know what exact build your phones were on prior to this soft brick. Then we'd know what Odin files to give you.
Then if there were still errors you could post them here for more help.
What were you guys doing exactly that brought you to this point?

I had baseband nc5. It was android version 4.4.2. Phone worked and I rooted it with towel root, the phone was rebooted and checked root with rootchecker. Then I flashed twrp 2.7.1 for jfltevzw with gooo manager and after that my problems began. Phone would not come out of Odin mode. I did try to Odin the nc5 emergency no wipe and it failed changing the Odin screen to the one that snoopy described.

Alright sorry to make you write that again.. I just now saw you included your quote from an earlier post.
Are you able to hop onto your PC and copy and paste what the Odin error is into this thread?
Trying to flash a custom recovery on anything other than MDK will certainly lead to a soft brick most of the time. However you should be able to recover your phone back.
Using the full wipe NC5 Odin file should do it.. However if that's not working for you only those errors being posted here will allow the right people to help you along.
May seem silly but have you tried simply trying another USB cable? I've seen people on here have Odin flashes fail just due to the cable.
Grab the Odin errors though if you can

Looks like you are trying to Odin to an image that was lower firmware than what your phone was on. You might want to try flashing the full wipe nc5 image that has been posted. Yep, from the thread you suggest.......... "The number one reason people brick their Verizon Galaxy S4 phones is due to attempts to flash recovery using Goo Manager, dd, and other tools without understanding when those will or won't work. The Verizon S4 is very locked down, and will reject such attempts in most cases."
