I have the motorola photon 4g and I've yet to find a thread that says exactly what my phone is doing.
My phone has been stopping at the motorola screen and saying RSD protocol startup, none of my buttons are stuck and I've tried to put it in flashboot and it just wont do it. I've tried holding the volume up and power button and holding the power button and volume down. I jsut don't know what else to do.
The phone is completely stock, no roots or anything. I just want a working phone because I'd rather not switch back to an lg rumor touch.
What did you try to get it into Fastboot mode?
Edit: Never mind, I see you are running a separate thread on this one...

I only tried because on all the many forums I've seen on various with people with similar issues with photons and oither droids, people were telling them to do a factory reset or bring it to flashboot, I just want my phone fixed.
You left out the part about dropping it in the toilet in this thread. It worked fine before that. So my guess its water damaged. You really dont need 2 threads for the same issue.

Water damage or not, I'm still going to try and fix it. It obviously will turn on, I just need a way to either restart the phone or get it past that screen.

are you unable to boot into recovery?
If you are familiar flashing motorola with rsd lite then flash it with "(198_6)-1FF-sunfire-user-2.3.4-4.5.1A-1_SUN-198_6-CM-release-keys-signed-Sprint-US" sbf file via rsd lite, it will return back to stock.

I've tried that before I even found this site, none of the downloads that I've found are correct and they download something completely opposite of what I want so that was no help honestly.
My phone has insurance, I'll just get a new one.
Thanks anyways.

Stuck in a goddamn bootlook after SBF'ing at least 10 times. Any ideas how to fix this POS phone?
Bootloop is not reason for flashing sbf.
Wipe data!

Not a "pos phone". You need to read stickies, read threads and become familiar with your phone before modifying it. If done so you would know that SBFing would not cause a bootloop , you obviously chose to RSD in the first place for a reason.
Now, for the spoonfeed:
Try to boot into recovery, if you can, wipe data and do a factory reset. If you can't access recovery, make sure you have the latest drivers and try with multiple computers.

I was following the guide here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=853950
And everything perfectly, but when I had to boot into recovery mode, the phone would not start up, at all. No combination of buttons works. I tried taking out the battery and still no luck. I've read up and down multiple threads here and nothing is working. This seems really difficult and I would much rather avoid bringing the phone back. None of the buttons are responsive... so I can't start it up. Any suggestions?

You tried flashing the wrong rom. That rom is for a bell i9000. I believe its a canadian version or whatnot. You need to odin back to the stock VIBRANT rom then start all over.

None of the aforementioned methods worked. I'm gonna try to get it replaced. And hopefully next time I flash it, I'll read if it's the right version i'm flashing. Thanks for the help. A mod can resolve this.
I'm in the same boat as you......I did the exact same thing and now I'm screwed as well...
Did you get it fixed or are you going to try and get a new one?
The same thing happened to my phone. The really weird part is that my phone was updated using kies mini and not some hax rom or anything. Now i can't do anything to turn it back on.
Hi,
My problem is somewhat similar to many posts.
The fastboot is not working.
Here is the issue:
I have rooted the phone.
Removed the SD card w/o unmounting.
Some of the apps turned out to be not working.
I decided to restart the phone.
It seemed to be doing so but repeatedly cycled after "Rethink Possible" having passed the M logo.
After numerous cycling, now the phone is starting but stuck ad red M logo "Dual Core Technology" screen.
Trying to enter into the fastboot mode via volume down (or even up) and turning on simply do not give any effect.
Interesting enough, I have also the Motorola Factory Cable and that does not heal my problems either; the computer simply does not recognize (though all my drivers are intact) the phone in RSD...
So the most obvious question to one I guess is: "Is this piece of technological advancement now a scrap?"
Thanks,

however, my case is somewhat tricky i guess; the phone stays still at red M dual core technology screen despite my attempt to power up via holding volume down button.
any further suggestions?

hi xploited,
good advice but there is a small problem here
the phone does not turn on but stuck at red M logo dual core technology screen nor goes into fastboot mode.
i feel it is lost somewhere in the bermuda triangle or neo of matrix between the real world and the machine world...
so, the situation is simple as it can be; turning on attempt sticks at M logo or fastboot attempt sticks at red M logo... both show the same door...
i hope i was able to better clarify the status this time

Something definitely got screwed up in your land
What's your current setup? OTA 2.3.4? And you have flashed pudding already? An SBF flash would fully restore your system partitions to default. But if you have updated to official 2.3.4, you can't sbf 2.2.2 cause the phone will hard brick.
I would do a full sbf of 2.3.4 with pudding included. If you flashed pudding already this should be safe. If you haven't flashed pudding yet, you need second thoughts on this.

This might be obvious, but... have you tried official hard reset instructions? -
If that doesn't work, or if your phone is frozen:
Turn the power off. If your Motorola ATRIX 4G is frozen, pull the battery out and reinsert it
Press and hold the Power and Camera buttons
Release the Camera button when prompted
Press and hold the Volume Down key
A yellow exclamation will appear on the display
Select Factory Reset and press OK

it's very odd... could potentially be the hardware (volume buttons) are broken...
Take the Battery our and leave it out for a while. Leave it unplugged and power it back up while holding either up or down to see if you get a result. If not then it sounds like your volume rocker is fubared. No matter what you should be able to get into fastboot or rsd. The only instance that i have seen where the phone is dead is going back to an older build after ota gb, even then it gives an error.
I bricked my galaxy note i717 beyond recovery with a regular jig. I've looked into jtag but I haven't found any information whether it's viable for the i717 (i.e. which jtag it's using, which box I would need, where I would need to bring it etc etc.)
So here's my question: Do any of you guys know any more about how to unbrick the phone or details about whether/how to unbrick using jtag?
Maybe I've overlooked something else. Here's how it went down:
I was stupid and tried to flash the phone with firmware for the N7000 because I was overexcited and didn't know that it wasn't an n7000. Now the recovery mode wouldn't let me upgrade (understandable reasons I guess) so I decided to force flash it with odin which also didn't let me upgrade the phone. So I used some method relying on adb. The process took way to long so I unplugged the phone mid-way through it, then replugged it and suddenly the process reported success. So the phone started rebooting just that instead of actually booting up it stayed black. Pressing any of the buttons yields no response - neither vibration nor any screen response. Using the usb jig also yields no response but I'm not entirely sure if there's a jig method that might work - or a key combo that might work - or even a usb method that might work.
Anyway any advice would be highly appreciated.
Did you try return to the store where you boought it? If your phone don't show anything on the screen, there is no way store knows what's going on with your phone unless you tell them the truth
That's exactly what I would do

That's not guinea pig. He did couple wrong things in a row (wrong ROM, god know what he is doing with abd and then unplug the phone in the middle of flashing or something). If I'd make a guess, he screwed up the bootloader.

I know on some phones that download mode can still be activated even if the screen isn't working properly and displaying it. I know many infuse users ran into problems and were still able to use Odin to flash stock and fix their phone. Try doing the hardware method of getting into download mode, and even though your screen doesn't show anything, it may still connect to Odin and you could try to flash back to stock.

If that dont work.hold power and both vol. Buttons for 30 sec. Then press vol.up and plug in usb.hope it works.

Actually, you can brick it to the point of needing JTAG repairs to restore your device. That being said, it's very very very hard to brick it. You have to do something like flash firmware for a completely wrong device and screw up your bootloaders in the process.

I've read some so my suggestion is this:
First make sure that you have the drivers installed for your phone. Then pull the battery wait for a few seconds. press the down button and then the power to go in download mode and hold them pressed for 20s. Now plug in the USB and press the volume up button. If Odin detects it you're good to go! If not... Well it's worth a shot
My theory is that even though the screen is blank, the hardware still boots properly. Just make sure your battery is somewhat charged. And also plug in the USB AFTER you "boot" in download mode.

It's not that, we've all made mistakes, but it's like this guy went out of his way to try to brick the phone. This isn't like "oh crap, I flashed the wrong radio"
He tried to flash a ROM from a different SoC and every fail-safe wouldn't let him do it. I'm surprised at how well the different programs tried to save his phone, then he actually went ADB and forced it onto his phone and then he unplugs during a flash.
It's like he drove his car without paying attention and hit a fence that prevents you from flying off a cliff, then he kept ramming his car into the fence, then took some C4, blew up the fence, drove off the cliff, then started yelling "help, I fell off the cliff"

I am a "new" Vibrant owner. I bought some broken ones in an effort to fix them. My question is, if the phone is off and you plug it into a charger, is there an animation while the battery is charging?
Yep the battery refilling

Ok so the phone isn't doing that. Any ideas? Also, when I have left it plugged in for a while and turn it on, it goes to the AT&T screen and doesn't move. Sometimes the phone will show that or the charging screen for three to five seconds and then start all over in a infinite loop.
Kinda lost on this thing right now.
Are you sure it's a vibrant and not the Atnt version?

Sorry, what's the difference?
I mean it has a TMobile logo, and was sold to me in a TMobile box. The guts look the same so I don't know how to tell the difference

it should start with a screen with Vibrant (and) Samsung screen, then a screen with animation that ends with a box with (magenta) Stick Together. That's tmobile phone. Besides, the phone should have Tmobile on its screen. That should be enough to be able to tell if it's tmobile Galaxy S or not.

The phone was probably rooted and someone installed custom ROMs on it etc.
I'm sure if you search a bit here you can find guides on how to ODIN your phone. Do that method and it will reset your phone to STOCK settings, meaning how it was out of the box brand new. Read some up on ODIN'ing your phone because even though it IS a easy to do it, if you for example, put the wrong file to flash etc. You can potentially BRICK your phone, meaning unusable etc.
Read up, ask questions, then proceed to do it.
There are probably plenty of video guides as well.

My computer isn't recognizing it so I am not sure if I can get it back or not. Might have to JTAG this thing. I try to put it in download mode but it won't go over so this is annoying.

Can you go to Settings>About Phone
and list some things like
KERNEL
Android Version
Modem
also do you have a app named SUPERUSER on your phone?
Here I found you the ODIN thread i was talking about...
Lets get the first questions I asked out of the way, and then if its all fine then I think you should be good to stay as it is since if your TMOBILE service is connected and its all working, it shouldn't be a big deal, and if it is, we can easily get you on another FAST ROM which will most likely remove that ATT logo.

I can't get the phone to boot right now. It stays stuck on the AT&T Worldphone screen and won't go any further.
Edit: We don't have T Mobile in Canada. I was gonna try to fix it and use it here on one of our providers.

How have you tried to go into Download mode?
1st:
Take out ALL things sim,sd,battery
Plug in a usb
hold both volume buttons WHILE putting in the battery
Then try that a few times, if it doesn't work... when its booting up, try to hold down power+volume up ( this is for GB bootloaders but just making sure previous owner didn't flash them)
Heres another guide:

Yeah, I tried every variation of holding down the volume/power keys and nothing. It either goes to the un-animated battery charging screen or an AT&T Worldphone logo and stops. Like I said, I would be more than happy to video it so you can see what it's doing.
Alright So I bought this Atrix for 50 bucks. Guy was having problems and coulnt figure it out. Its rooted and unlocked. When I plug the charger into it (the stock wall charger. not to the computer) it goes to the M boot screen. I can't get to any other screen to come up. When I hold the volume buttons down, I get "Cant start RSD Battery too low to flash". also, When I plug it in, The green LED lights up for a second then turns off as it goes to the Motorola screen. I can't turn it on either with just the battery. any Ideas?

I had this problem just last night. I searched around xda and the internet, and came upon this: http://www.atrixforums.com/forum/mo...e-rsd-lite-flash-sbf-file-motorola-atrix.html
Give it a shot. If it doesn't turn on now, what's the worse that'll happen by trying this?
Just charge the battery and flash a SBF with RSDLite.
Make sure that you don't downgrade the ROM. Read sticky for more info about hardbricking risks.
Wrong section.

What SBF file do I need? Im not sure what is on the phone and I dont wanna Brick it if I can avoid it.
Go the latest SBF(the latest being 2.3.6/4.5.141 if you have an ATT atrix. Otherwise a full list of SBF files are here http://www.filefactory.com/f/89f588286a560e39/ ). Bricking occured when downgrading, so long as you upgrade or stay the same you should be fine.

Thanks, admin?
I bit the bullet and did it. All was going good till my cat jumped on my computer desk and then failed saying something about switching to BP or something along those lines. Now I cant get the phone is RSD again
Was your battery charged enough? Sometimes if your battery is low it won't complete the flash.
What directory is your sbf file located at? Sometimes it won't work unless you put it directly in the C:\ drive.
Have you got the latest RSDlite?
What SBF did you flash?
Did you use the usb ports at the back of the pc?
If you can't get it in RSD again then I suggest giving it a charge for an hour or so and trying again later. Also check the md5 of the sbf file to check that the file is correct. Sometimes the 'Switch phone to BP Pass through mode' can be fixed just from trying a different usb port or computer.

congratulations your mobile device is sucessfully bricked.
mine did[(do)will] the same, you have to take it to the assistance, i know what must be done, the assistance guys told me, but it can only be done by them.
so, you better hope you dont have the same problem as mine. [but if you got the error talking about didnt booting radio////failed to switch to BP(or some s**t like that) you probably have it, and only motorola can fix it.]
Edit: we know is the wrong section but only modetators can complain/report/warn. if we are not, lets just help the poor dude while the problem is unsolved.

Have you googled the error? If you have, you'd find that it is a common error and I haven't seen any cases where they didn't eventually get fixed. OP just needs to get back in to RSD and have another go. The guys from 'assistance' don't know what they're doing, they'll take any reason to say that 'only motorola can fix it' because they don't know any better.

I wold haVE GOOGLED IT BUT RSD lite closed on me. I would get back into RSD but I can't get the phone back into it. I power on and hold the volume buttons and it doesnt do anything.
And also now while its stuck on the Motorola boot screen, Unlocked is missing from the corner like it use to be there.
Well after just fidiling around with it, it just started working. After about 45 minutes of just sitting there on the motorola screen, it booted up. Now its time to set it up all the way and put CM7 on it im guess.
I wasn't talking to you about googling the error, I was talking to the guy who had said that your phone was bricked when clearly it wasn't. The error would have been a fail at 'Switching Device to BP Pass Through' stage which does not mean you're device is bricked.
Anyway, good to see you fixed it. And the unlocked text goes away when you flash an SBF, that's normal. Get cm10 on it
I went back through and kind of got that after the fact haha. Im glad I got it fixed also too. Not I can get rid of the dreaded Iphone 4 :\ and be back where I belong. Is there a stable CM10 for it? I havent gotten to look around much yet since I was fixing the main problem.
