[Q] Fastboot issue... - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
My problem is somewhat similar to many posts.
The fastboot is not working.
Here is the issue:
I have rooted the phone.
Removed the SD card w/o unmounting.
Some of the apps turned out to be not working.
I decided to restart the phone.
It seemed to be doing so but repeatedly cycled after "Rethink Possible" having passed the M logo.
After numerous cycling, now the phone is starting but stuck ad red M logo "Dual Core Technology" screen.
Trying to enter into the fastboot mode via volume down (or even up) and turning on simply do not give any effect.
Interesting enough, I have also the Motorola Factory Cable and that does not heal my problems either; the computer simply does not recognize (though all my drivers are intact) the phone in RSD...
So the most obvious question to one I guess is: "Is this piece of technological advancement now a scrap?"
Thanks,

have you try this.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1182871

hi mate,
thanks for the prompt response, i appreciate.
this thread is giving instructions for a phone that is capable of going into the fastboot mode.
however, my case is somewhat tricky i guess; the phone stays still at red M dual core technology screen despite my attempt to power up via holding volume down button.
any further suggestions?
thanks,

hi xploited,
good advice but there is a small problem here
the phone does not turn on but stuck at red M logo dual core technology screen nor goes into fastboot mode.
i feel it is lost somewhere in the bermuda triangle or neo of matrix between the real world and the machine world...
so, the situation is simple as it can be; turning on attempt sticks at M logo or fastboot attempt sticks at red M logo... both show the same door...
i hope i was able to better clarify the status this time
what do you say?

Something definitely got screwed up in your land
What's your current setup? OTA 2.3.4? And you have flashed pudding already? An SBF flash would fully restore your system partitions to default. But if you have updated to official 2.3.4, you can't sbf 2.2.2 cause the phone will hard brick.
I would do a full sbf of 2.3.4 with pudding included. If you flashed pudding already this should be safe. If you haven't flashed pudding yet, you need second thoughts on this.

This might be obvious, but... have you tried official hard reset instructions? -
If that doesn't work, or if your phone is frozen:
Turn the power off. If your Motorola ATRIX 4G is frozen, pull the battery out and reinsert it
Press and hold the Power and Camera buttons
Release the Camera button when prompted
Press and hold the Volume Down key
A yellow exclamation will appear on the display
Select Factory Reset and press OK

yes... maybe all possible way outs... all failed...
i guess the only solution for me is to somehow force the pc and the phone to speak...
i am not sure if that is still possible, but there could be a physical alternative, i.e. test point, etc. like the old phones...
i am sure there is a definitive cure to this problem but i am still seeking for

Alright man, good luck. Unfortunately, this is beyond my knowledge.
You might wanna PM one of the devs and ask if they know how to fix this (kholk, sam, faux, etc.)

it's very odd... could potentially be the hardware (volume buttons) are broken...

Take the Battery our and leave it out for a while. Leave it unplugged and power it back up while holding either up or down to see if you get a result. If not then it sounds like your volume rocker is fubared. No matter what you should be able to get into fastboot or rsd. The only instance that i have seen where the phone is dead is going back to an older build after ota gb, even then it gives an error.

Bricked after Factory Reset

I was trying to uninstall Clockwork Recovery Mod but couldn't get to the recovery screen because the Clockwork that I installed wasn't the right version for my phone (only reason this happened is because my phone wasn't listed as one of the choices in the confirm phone model window). So, I decided to just try a factory reset and reroot/reinstall everything. After doing that, my phone will boot to the LG logo screen and stay there. Recovery mode yields a black screen. Safe mode stays at the LG screen and when I plug in the phone to charge it only stays at the LG screen as well (making it impossible to go into emergency mode).
Is my phone beyond saving now? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Here you go.

Well, I would stick to scientific methods instead of inexplicable voodoo and check instead whether the battery is charged decently (let it charge overnight) and inserted properly. The accelerometer will not revive a semi-bricked device since it is not working at this state in the first place.

Your phone is not bricked as long as it does somthing (bricked device = device with the functionality of a brick = dead device, doesn't do absolutely anything)
Keep trying with KDZ. Keep it charging for 2-3 hours, pull the battery out and wait for a few minutes, put it back in and retry. It has to work eventually.

odin back to stock
1. Start Odin
2. Plug USB cable into pc
3. Power off the Phone.
3. Pull the Battery.
5. Plug USB cable into Phone.
6. Press and Hold: Volume UP + Volume DOWN + Power, all at the same time.
7. Re-insert the battery.
8. The phone will power now, when the screen starts a cycle of going to a BLACK screen, release ONLY the POWER button.
9. When you see the download icon release the volume buttons,
10. Odin back to stock by putting the PIT file into the appropriate area and the .tar in the PDA area.
Or try that same method without holding the power button, just the volume rocker (up and down) when plugging into usb that works for some ppl
I frickin tried all that I still can't get outta that damn screen
And Odin won't see it, much less my whole damn computer
Edit: Still NOTHING. Am thoroghly convinced I did a hard brick some ****ing how and I'm about ready to shove this thing through a wall

No your phone is not completely bricked. I rescued my phone many times from that screen. Connect your phone to another PC, install ODIN & samsung drivers. Make sure that the phone is recognized,
ON ODIN Select only the phone.
use any modem file using Phone
Click start that should bring your phone back to life.
Search for Eugene Froyo that does not brick and start from there.

Guess I really just don't get why it REFUSES to leave that screen. I myself have saved my phone from that screen a few times myself, now it just won't. No matter what I do it just sits there. Doesn't matter the button combo, doesn't matter when I pull the battery or plug in the USB, not a goddamn thing.. and of course I don't get paid til tomorrow so, I'll have to wait through the entire weekend plus however long it takes for it to arrive so.. if someone could please come up with a solution that makes it so I don't have to go back to my chinsey little mytouch for a full week let me know.

I am not sure, which froyo bootloader you tried to flash, but what you did is kill the three button combo on you phone.
If you were in Atlanta, I could have let you borrow my Jig. Sometimes these things are frustrating, but look at them as a learning. Next time you will know not to mess with bootloaders. FYI, you are still lucky than many, things could have been worse.

Rofl bro, exactly that happened to me... rxactly that the t roofl... heres how i fixed it:
First i tried normal download mode, that didnt work.. then i tried pulling out battery, plugging in, holding vol buttons and putting bbattery in... this worked
But then i stupidly.tried tto flash the froyo bootloaders again (from cm7)... same exact issie excrpt the solution didnt work this time... this time i had to make a jig...
Once your in download mode, odin with ABSOLUTELY NOTHING... meaning open odin, plug in dl mode, once recognized, click start.. no pit.or pda or modem or anything and dont touch the repartition or whatever bullets. This wworked for me, it just rebooted into cm7 immidietly
Then if you want froyo bootloaders, do a nandroid, odin to stock, flash em, flasg cm7 and restore the nnandroid.. good luck

I decided to take advantage of someone who can get next day shipping for only $5 on amazon so I have a jig coming anyway.
Again, appreciate the methods people are posting, but I've tried em all. My only hope is a jig, and if not then.. well..idk honestly, buy a jtag box?

Bricked my phone -_-

I bricked my galaxy note i717 beyond recovery with a regular jig. I've looked into jtag but I haven't found any information whether it's viable for the i717 (i.e. which jtag it's using, which box I would need, where I would need to bring it etc etc.)
So here's my question: Do any of you guys know any more about how to unbrick the phone or details about whether/how to unbrick using jtag?
Maybe I've overlooked something else. Here's how it went down:
I was stupid and tried to flash the phone with firmware for the N7000 because I was overexcited and didn't know that it wasn't an n7000. Now the recovery mode wouldn't let me upgrade (understandable reasons I guess) so I decided to force flash it with odin which also didn't let me upgrade the phone. So I used some method relying on adb. The process took way to long so I unplugged the phone mid-way through it, then replugged it and suddenly the process reported success. So the phone started rebooting just that instead of actually booting up it stayed black. Pressing any of the buttons yields no response - neither vibration nor any screen response. Using the usb jig also yields no response but I'm not entirely sure if there's a jig method that might work - or a key combo that might work - or even a usb method that might work.
Anyway any advice would be highly appreciated.
Did you try return to the store where you boought it? If your phone don't show anything on the screen, there is no way store knows what's going on with your phone unless you tell them the truth

That's not guinea pig. He did couple wrong things in a row (wrong ROM, god know what he is doing with abd and then unplug the phone in the middle of flashing or something). If I'd make a guess, he screwed up the bootloader.

I know on some phones that download mode can still be activated even if the screen isn't working properly and displaying it. I know many infuse users ran into problems and were still able to use Odin to flash stock and fix their phone. Try doing the hardware method of getting into download mode, and even though your screen doesn't show anything, it may still connect to Odin and you could try to flash back to stock.

U cant brick these phones.use the hardware buttons to get into download mode.
Take battery out and put it back in.hold power vol down and home for 20sec and then press vol up and plug into ur pc with odin running.u should see something on port section.
If that dont work.hold power and both vol. Buttons for 30 sec. Then press vol.up and plug in usb.hope it works.

Actually, you can brick it to the point of needing JTAG repairs to restore your device. That being said, it's very very very hard to brick it. You have to do something like flash firmware for a completely wrong device and screw up your bootloaders in the process.

I've read some so my suggestion is this:
First make sure that you have the drivers installed for your phone. Then pull the battery wait for a few seconds. press the down button and then the power to go in download mode and hold them pressed for 20s. Now plug in the USB and press the volume up button. If Odin detects it you're good to go! If not... Well it's worth a shot
My theory is that even though the screen is blank, the hardware still boots properly. Just make sure your battery is somewhat charged. And also plug in the USB AFTER you "boot" in download mode.

I did something stupid to my note too so don't feel too bad. **** happens... I returned my note to att with no problem because my screen was permanently black. Wouldn't do anything download mode, cwm nothin.. Flashed gsm kernel from root so beware the way its layed out u won't know its gsm unless you read it extremely careful. I had read the thread three times and only caught it after i read really slowly post-brick.

It's not that, we've all made mistakes, but it's like this guy went out of his way to try to brick the phone. This isn't like "oh crap, I flashed the wrong radio"
He tried to flash a ROM from a different SoC and every fail-safe wouldn't let him do it. I'm surprised at how well the different programs tried to save his phone, then he actually went ADB and forced it onto his phone and then he unplugs during a flash.
It's like he drove his car without paying attention and hit a fence that prevents you from flying off a cliff, then he kept ramming his car into the fence, then took some C4, blew up the fence, drove off the cliff, then started yelling "help, I fell off the cliff"

I'm confused, is there a CDMA Note? What do you mean "they won't know it's GSM"?

Need help. Bricked device over real stupid reason I would never imagine.

Hey guys,
So, I think I officially join the club of the bricked Razr Max people today.
It happened like this.. Everything was running fine, created a few restore points of different roms in SafeStrap. Two under SafeSystem Enabled and one with it Disabled. So, I go ahead like a newb apparently and try to load my first restored image from the original OS / Stock, and I forgot SafeSystem is Enabled while loading it, mind you, this Restore point was made with SafeSystem Disabled when I was new to SafeSystem. Low and behold, the phone started up, "Dual Core Logo" showed for about ten seconds, and the went right to black screen and I can't get it out of there. Nothing I can do will start up the device. I have the charger in meanwhile and the phone isn't even recognizing a charge.
What do I do? Am I f*cked beyond immeasurable repair? Let me know.
Thanks
Ok I'm short on time, but this should help!

You know what though? I can't even power up into Bootloader that's how bad it is. Like, I am left with holding down the power button to absolutely nothing functioning. Screen won't turn on or off, nothing. I mean this is deeply off. Thanks for the guide though, but isn't his method for steps 5 to 8 only valid if you can get into the boot loader?

Wow. Problem fixed. It was as simple as holding the two volume buttons down at the same time while pressing the power button. Back in the bootloader and restoring to original state. This time PROPERLY. let's see if this works.
**My serotonin levels have just risen after this. Don't you all hate that feeling of a bricked phone when you don't know much about unbricking them? Almost a powerless feeling**

I am sure your device is hard bricked, and nothing can make it work
only motorola can help u, so go there and tell them that u put ur device for full night charging and now it wont turn on.
They wont catch ur root cause they will have to change the motherboard revive the device
it happened with me and i also did the same
so cheer up

He's device isn't hard bricked. I would find it incredibly hard to hard brick. You can't hard brick a motorola. If you think you did. You didn't try all possible solutions

Same as Matty, You can't hard brick a Motorola. If they didn't provide a PC counterpart to the phone for restoration, they made sure that a user could pretty damn well not hard brick it.

Agreed!. I mean. there was a time where the solutions didn't work so I removed my SD and I was put into the home launcher. There is always a solution to bricking

All you need is fastboot files, RSD Lite and maybe, the factory cable. Just so everyone knows there are ways to get around everything!
Let's say you messed up your phone and it won't boot up. All you can do is get into fastboot and the bootloader. Problem is, your battery is too low to flash anything. Too easy:
Press and hold the vol down and power button until you see the screen flicker, let go of those buttons and quickly press and hold all 3 buttons on the side (power and both volume buttons). Once in the bootloader, plug in your wall charger. Now hit volume down until you highlight the SBF option and press volume up to select it. Now press and hold the power button for about 3 seconds and release it. Your phone will power down and should begin to charge. Once you get a full charge, repeat the process to get into fastboot, use RSD Lite and the fastboot files, viola!!
It's virtually impossible to hard brick a Moto phone unless there is a hardware issue or the bootloader gets corrupt somehow.
Umm, so out of curiosity. What might one do if the bootloader gets corrupted? I already sent it back to Moto and they claimed this new phone suffered water damage. (I've personally seen that the 3 stickers are non activated, 2 on board and 1 visible. So much for their theory). Just curious. And Jtag's seem quite costly and then there's the issue of correct pinout and finding the firmware. Any other solutions?

Motorola Photon 4g Please Help. RSD protocol

I have the motorola photon 4g and I've yet to find a thread that says exactly what my phone is doing.
My phone has been stopping at the motorola screen and saying RSD protocol startup, none of my buttons are stuck and I've tried to put it in flashboot and it just wont do it. I've tried holding the volume up and power button and holding the power button and volume down. I jsut don't know what else to do.
The phone is completely stock, no roots or anything. I just want a working phone because I'd rather not switch back to an lg rumor touch.
What did you try to get it into Fastboot mode?
Edit: Never mind, I see you are running a separate thread on this one...

I only tried because on all the many forums I've seen on various with people with similar issues with photons and oither droids, people were telling them to do a factory reset or bring it to flashboot, I just want my phone fixed.
You left out the part about dropping it in the toilet in this thread. It worked fine before that. So my guess its water damaged. You really dont need 2 threads for the same issue.

Water damage or not, I'm still going to try and fix it. It obviously will turn on, I just need a way to either restart the phone or get it past that screen.

are you unable to boot into recovery?
If you are familiar flashing motorola with rsd lite then flash it with "(198_6)-1FF-sunfire-user-2.3.4-4.5.1A-1_SUN-198_6-CM-release-keys-signed-Sprint-US" sbf file via rsd lite, it will return back to stock.
there is a thread on xda.just explore....

I've looked for it a bunch and all the things I've seen on here don't give me the correct download and send me somewhere else.

I've tried that before I even found this site, none of the downloads that I've found are correct and they download something completely opposite of what I want so that was no help honestly.
My phone has insurance, I'll just get a new one.
Thanks anyways.

Stuck in a goddamn bootlook after SBF'ing at least 10 times. Any ideas how to fix this POS phone?
Bootloop is not reason for flashing sbf.
Wipe data!

Not a "pos phone". You need to read stickies, read threads and become familiar with your phone before modifying it. If done so you would know that SBFing would not cause a bootloop , you obviously chose to RSD in the first place for a reason.
Now, for the spoonfeed:
Try to boot into recovery, if you can, wipe data and do a factory reset. If you can't access recovery, make sure you have the latest drivers and try with multiple computers.
