I have a galaxy s3 international with android 4.0.4 XXLF2 version, and my OTG does not work and does not detect any flashes or mice or keyboard (it does not power up my my little micro-SD card convertor) but the cable seems fine because I can recharge, transfer files, connect it to my laptop
I have tried many things ...
-rooted
-installed busybox
-installed stickmount
-installed OTG-Helper
-tried my micro-USB cable from my nokia phone
...
none of them works

... I also should add that I use a female to female usb converter and original samsung cable
Otg.
U have to use micro usb to otg cable.
When you plug in, it should say usb host connected. Even without any device.
And it should not have anything to do with the samsung cable.

Special thanks, so you mean the the OTG cable is a special cable and is different from ordinary cables or converters ?
sorry i'm new to this ...
yup, you can find them on ebay for a couple of dollars with postage.
I've just built mine in few minutes and you can do it too if you have a spare normal USB cable and a soldering iron.
You don't have to cut hard plastics and so on - you can solder directly the pin 4 and 5 from the front - but you need steady hands:

Yes it does. Make sure you get an 11 pin MHL. USB OTG works with flash drives, mouse/keyboards, gamepads, etc.

Yes... both MHL & OTG. It reads ext4-partitions as well so files larger than 4GB is no problem.

Where did you get the mhl adaptor ? There is too many Chinese MHL adaptors that doesn't work at advertised.

It should have 11 pins to work but you can try what you have and see if it works.

No luck. It's difficult because no many sellers says how many pins does his product have. I'll try there
5pin = MHL 1.0
11pin = MHL 2.0
for OTG function, do i need a cable with 11pins?

I don't think so.
Hi guys,
I just installed the CROMBi-kk Rom from the relative thread in my ASUS TF201:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2773812
It's very fast and smooth...I confirm camera problems but this is minor problem for me: my camera is affected of "green screen" bug..
My problem is the USB OTG ADAPTER that I use to connect pen drive or other externals disks:

}
With stock JB Rom the adapter above worked very well: I connected a 160Gb Hard Disk Drive without problems.
With this CROMBI-kk Rom the system not mount the external memory that connect with the adapter. In Settings-Memory I may see that the USB options are enabled (and when I pull out the adapter becames disabled) but "Install SD Card" command does nothing.
Is there a solution for this issue?
Thanks in advance
PS: I found others theads in this forum but not for my ASUS Prime
FYI
On Google Play I found an App to solve this issue...
It work well and with an helper is well integrated in the system
Look for "Usb otg" on the market
I have never had that particular problem, it had always recognised and auto-mounted any attached storage :/ could be a bad flash?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I just flashed Crombi-kk and I have this problem. On stock 4.1.1 OTG cable worked great. Now I it doesn't . Chainfire Stickmount didn't help either.
update1:
When I connect thumb drive to the dock it is recognized and is working, but with cable not anymore, even though the thumb drive light is blinking so it must be bug in Crombi-kk. Everything else is great.
update2:
In order for USB thumb drive to work, you cann use
1. Total Commander with USB Stick Plugin-TC., or
2. Nexus USB OTG File Manager.
The other USB OTG apps didn't work including Chainfire's Stickmount. Hope I helped someone.
I hope in the future Combi-kk version that USB OTG will be corrected including slow transfer speed. Speed transfer is maybe 2-3 times slower than on stock JB.
Hello guys hope ur all doing well.
I have problem with my Sony z5c,when I try to connect the USB otg don't work but when I connect it in recovery it works perfectly. Any solutions!?
Hello,
Are you on stock Android? If not, which ROM or version are you on?
By the way if you are on a ROM, it would be better to reply to that thread.
After some (I don't know which) release of Android, you have to enable USB OTG from the quick settings before plugging in USB devices.Looks like this:

Sorry for the late reply
It could be the OTG connecter's problem, as they are often cheap and fragile.
Have you tried using it on another phone?
(Or used other OTG connecters on your phone?)
I'm on lineageOS 18.1, but 17.1 should work better.

Yes I used it in another phone and it works
And also I tried it in many custom Roms and still the same problem.
OK I'm running out of ideas
How about doing it in this order:
1. Plug your USB device onto the connector
2. Enable USB OTG from quick settings
After that, you should see a toast saying "Starting USB OTG Detection for 30000 milliseconds"
3. Plug in the USB OTG connector
That's what worked for me. For reference, the toast looks like this:
OK I will try
Hi,
I just bought a new laptop with USB-C port, and when I plug in my Xperia 1 III, it only charges the phone, and won't detect it as a storage device.
I'm using USB-C cable that I got inside original box.
Is there anything I can do to solve this problem?
Phone doesn't offer me to choose transfer mode, when I plug it to a laptop's USB-C port.
Go to Disk Management and scan for new devices. Access directly from there.
Is the driver for that phone installed, check Hardware Management>USB hubs etc try to update driver or roll back if that fails.
If it doesn't show, use known good cable and inspect phone C port for damage or contamination. Can the phone see other OTG devices?
Try another port on the PC.
Reboot PC.
Play with USB options in phone Developer options. If already on, try turning Developer options off.
Check Event Viewer in Windows for error messages after attempting to connect.
Play with it... you'll find to issue eventually.

I tried everything, and also change USB connectivity in Developers options to File transfer.
Is original cable that comes in a box able for data transfer, or only for charging the device?
I found this in specifications of my laptop, does this means that my USB-C port is unable to recognize my phone?

I doubt that's it. The protocols are generally backward compatible.
Have you got a USB-2 hub lying around? Try going thru that and see if it works.
Hi guys,
I just bought a new data cable (USB-A to USB-C), and it works perfectly.
Thank you for all information you provided
Hi,
i try to connect my 12t pro via usb and it connects and disconnects continually, i have tried on windows 10 and 11 pc, the same problem. i don't use it often, only when i get a new phone so i can copy my music folders.
has anyone else getting same problem and if so, is there a way around this?
thanks
For me working normally. Maybe drivers you need to reinstall or try change USB cable ..

I've tried different cables and machine - still same.
Then take it to service, maybe your port is damage. How react when you charge your battery? Disconnect too? If not, then is problem in windows
charging is fine, it could be a windows problem (tried with windows 10 and 11), but could be a firmware problem. i have sent feedback, hoping they can help me.
thanks
Same here. At first it detects the phone but then it just disappears. Can only use it with Photo Mode and you cant really transfer files like that. Hope they fix it soon
Hallo,

Hello,
You need to turn on developer option and turn on usb debugging. Then it works....
Thanks for your reply - but this did not work for me.
Your problem is more like a faulty usb port/flex cable or motherboard.
The fact that it charges does not mean the port is good since they are different connectors.
- On my working laptop (Dell) with win10 22H2 i can hear only plugin sound but cannot see phone as a storage device
- On HP laptop with win10 21H2 the connection works fine ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Use driver inside the official Xiaomi Unlock package: Unlock (drivers)
I also encountered the situation described by the author. I think it is "Docking station" problem. Because as long as I don't use "Docking station" and directly put k50 from Ulta There will be no problem. But this is very annoying, because my other mobile phone can be connected to the "Docking station"
Your USB doesn't understand that it can't output 120w charging current. The phone asks for more, then USB overload protection kicks in. And it repeats itself endlessly.
I dont think its really the current load

0.44 Amp, its not the 20v 6A of the usb charger, wich make sense its the rate of normal usb
You probably have to much stuff on your usb or really bad usb port better pug it directly on a usb port and not on a hub to be sure
I had those sort of disconnect probleme on old pc with usb hard disk wich was due to too much load on the same usb and pretty bad usb
